The view, the location, unique house and Gede the host
Gede and Ketut were awesome hosts. Amazing views overlooking forest and valleys, AC rooms, comfy bed and good bathrooms

Views to die for, sound of nature to dip into sleep to, river that feeds waterfalls, simple but perfect ZEN rooms. The hosts Gede and his wife went out of their way to take the five of us to the waterfall on the back of their scooters and back later.
Fix the pool table
I loved every little detail about the property, the location specially. Overlooking the vast mountains, the ocean far away. Waking up to breath taking sun rises and the starry nights. Away from the city noise! Exactly what I wanted. I came across this property by mistake as I had a place in Lovina booked. I’m glad I cancelled that and chose this place out of pure instinct.
Nothing I can think of. We were three friends, only thing was we thought it’s one room for three, where as one person had to stay below. But it isn’t something that I didn’t like in particular.
I loved this place. The little cottages were very cute, though a little dark , a brighter lightbulb would have been good. The view from the deck was breathtaking, particularly at sunrise. The owners were very friendly and helpful. A lovely family. Close to waterfalls.
Just a heads up the restaurant wasn't open but a nice place just 5 mins away on a scooter.
Stayed two nights while canyoning in Gitgit Falls area. Such a nice space to base ourselves. Although a bit isolated (which is also a plus) the staff were so accommodating to help us get to dinner reservations in the area and to meet our canyoning transport. Would stay again simply to take in the views.
Шикарный вид, очень уютный номер хотя человеку 180мм покажется игрушечным. Отличный вариант переночевать. До Пипито 15мин на байке.
The view and very accommodating
A little basic
Unbelievable views of rice fields in the mountain out in a proper local area, the owners are incredible and are there to help you with anything. It is a bit out the way but that's the only way you will find stays like this, so definitely recommend getting a scooter.
Nothing
If you need a break, peace and quiet. A place to meditate and do yoga, this is it. The sound of the waterfall can be heard from the room and there is a stream just below the room. The rooms were stunning. Different and beautiful. The beds were very comfortable. The drive there from Ubud was magical. The view was out of this world. I was there with my two kids, 11&12. My daughter slept below and my son shared the big bed up stairs. It all felt very safe. The staff were extremely kind and helpful. They organized food for our dinner to be bought up from a local restaurant, and a driver to take us out for the day. Waterfalls, hot springs, temple, great lunch in Lovina. Drinks on the beach and shopping, then home. He was brilliant. The owners also kindly organized one of the best massages I’ve had in years, for all of us, in the evening in our rooms. The ladies were lovely and just great with the kids. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
There is a huge hill walk down to get to the mini mart and a cafe. And getting back up is tricky. But I’m sure you could catch a ride from owners on their scooters. No driver apps. work out there, the owners will try and help with anything. When you go I can only suggest, especially if you have kids, to bring snacks and fruit up with you. There is no restaurant on site or in close or easy walking distance.
One of the best homestays that I have been to. An amazing view of the fields and the sea, so peaceful with only the sounds of the birds and the water of the river nearby. The hosts were so nice and kind, they helped me organise a trip to the waterfalls and then to the hot spring and a Buddhist temple nearby. I totally recommend this place !!
Als je van rust houdt en van de prachtige natuur wilt genieten is dit een ultieme keuze !
D'Kailash is a little mountain paradise. If you're expecting a luxury resort this isn't it but the cabins are well equipped and even have a kettle and fridge, which you don't often get at this price. It's like sleeping up in the clouds at the top of the mountain. You can hear the waterfalls below. The sunrises are magnificent. The view incredible. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. The owners were so kind and friendly to us. We had a wonderful stay. They even cooked us a delicious Nasi Goreng one night.
Nothing. Just a heads up, being in the mountains the roads are narrow and steep and the cabins have wooden steps to get up to the rooms. Tricky if you have mobility issues. But we are in our 60s and we managed. We had our own car which is a good idea as nearest restaurants are quite a walk away.
Staying at D’Kailash Retreat was one of the highlights of our trip to Bali. The wooden bungalows are simple but really comfy, with good mattresses and everything you need to feel at home. Waking up to those amazing views every morning was a dream—pure peace and quiet. What really makes the place special, though, are the owners. They’re genuinely kind, welcoming and the sweetest ever! If you’re into nature, calm vibes, and real connection, this is the spot.
Beautiful views, exceptionally clean, excellent value for money, very hospitable family owners. Would definitely go back.
The energy of this place is out of this world. You wake up to a view that feels like a dream. Then you go for breakfast and meet the kind local Balinese people, still unspoiled by tourism and money. Their strong faith in the gods they pray to surrounds you with a special energy that you can feel in your heart.
The location is really beautiful with stunning vistas on each side. The family running the accommodation are absolutely lovely and extremely helpful. The place is a perfect little peaceful retreat in nature and very close to a lot of the waterfalls and other tourist attractions of north Bali.
Everything was great
Simple and effective... Perfect to relax at low budget with an amazing view and friendly staff. Far away from the tourists trap..
The view is undeniably amazing and the huts are cute (although not great for tall people). The beds are surprisingly relatively comfortable, wifi was good in 1 room but bad in the other. The staff (1 family) are kind but their English is limited. It's a good location for Aling Aling waterfalls and Cemara waterfalls for the most adventurous. Other than that there isn't much else to do in walking distance.
Let's start with the rooms. They only have 2 power points so once the fridge and the 1 bedside lamps are in, that's it... They are definitely not bug proof with big gaps on the walls. Our children even had a rat in theirs on the last evening! The bathrooms are very basics and everything is a bit wonky. The advertised restaurant is non existent. Our breakfast was very basic. Although the staff is very kind, they have limited means. We had to get takeaways for our dinners as the place is isolated and they don't serve dinner. They don't provide water (except a tiny bottle on arrival). So we had to get our own or buy it from them We shortened our stay by 1 night and the owner was not interested in reimbursing that night, even partially. 2 nights were enough. We have seen other places at similar price points where all of the above was addressed.
The view is just out of this world. You can watch sunrise from your bed and the colors of sunset are like nowhere else. It´s really simple, quiet and beautiful. Yes, it is a bit far from everything if you don´t have a scooter / car. There is no public transport and each walk to supermarket/restaurant takes a steep uphill way back. On the other hand, they cook in the place so you can always stay there. We considered it a real retreat. Along with really close aling aling waterfall, you can also do a beautiful half-day hike from there to 3 other beautiful waterfalls.
The best view, and staff very kindly, near from aling2 waterfall
The customer service is exceptional. The views from the hotel room and restaurant are amazing. It's located very close to a lot of waterfalls. The room has AC. The food is good!
We enjoyed our 7 nights here. The room is traditional The views of the sunrise over the valley is breathtaking. The room was comfy with fridge and aircon. The location is remote but we either walked the very steep hill to the village (20min) or to the river/waterfall past the rice fields up the mountain (20 min) or caught a taxi organised by our hosts at a fair price. We were spoilt each morning with a delicious vegan Bali breakfast. We enjoyed our stay very much.
The staff was very kind and super helpful. The view was nice. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were happy.
The breakfast / food options were quite limited, especially in the beverage / coffee department. It generally wasn't a problem though since there were restaurants so closeby.
i loved the place, the nature around it, the bedrooms, and also the staff was really really nice and sweet
Excellent in every way. The view from the room was gorgeous and it was so relaxing to sleep to the sound of the local streams and waterfalls. The hosts were kind and super helpful
The staff here were so kind and were there to help whenever I needed anything. The views from the room were spectacular and perfect to watch the sunrise. The bathroom was good, and I had a fridge and kettle in the room. The bed was super comfy. The staff changed my sheets when I had ants come in!
Would be nice to have somewhere comfortable to chill out rather than the bed, such as sofas or deck chairs. Had to get a scooter around but that’s a given in this area.
Beutiful location, quiet and serene. Beach is 20 mins away so you get the beat of both worlds. Perfect for a couple. We had great weather so was no problem even with our 4yr old. But might be a challenge otherwise. The family that runs the place is amazing. Always smiling and very welcoming and accommodating. They always talked to our son and even serves us the fruits he liked. We loved our stay there.
The room we were in was a bit tight due to the slanted roof. Maybe our room is not ideal for tall or big people.
The sunrise view was stunning, overlooking the rice fields and the hills. Really lovely quiet place, romantic and the owners are so lovely. They have a pool table, so you can play a game :) Super convenient that they cook there as well, you can have it all in one place.
Great location, quiet place. In retreat you can find a cafe (warung) with tasty food for a good price. Amazing view from our room.
Sometimes about 8 a m near retreat some of the neighbors turned on loud music.
Everything!
Nothing!
Simple bungalow with pretty lovely view. People in this property so kind and helpful any time. Pretty tasty dishes by villas kitchen. Nice to walk around mountain roads
Friendly staff Beautiful View, but we had a rat running around eating our stuff and keeping us awake in the night.
The rooms are little wooden cabins which is kind of cute and you have a nice view.
Someone clearly invested money here and there is potential but the lack of management made the stay disappointing. 1. Wrongly advertised: the rooms are by far not 50m2. I booked to different categories (budget double room and garden view room) which were exactly the same rooms, although the latter was almost double the price. That was very unfortunate, because it was supposed to have one extra bed. In the end we moved a mattress from an other room there. There are no activities as advertised, the name retreat is misleading, as there is nothing but the huts. 2. Restaurant is not operating, breakfast was very basic (no choice, just toast with jam and a fried egg) 3. There was construction work going on, which does not look nice, resulted in workers moving around and some noise of course 4. No attention to detail: AC not working great as remote was missing, some doors didn’t lock well etc 5. The bathroom is outdoor which I usually like, but this one was just a small room with no roof basically. Also no roof above the toilet. If outdoor they should have made it more spacious with plants etc. 6. Staff was friendly but not so motivated or creative. For example they couldn’t give any recommendations what to do in the area or solve our room problem in a good way. Probably not we’ll instructed.
The bed was amazing. The views were unbeatable and it's a cosy house!
Nothing
The views are what sells the place. Really beautiful. The bed is also extremely comfortable!
Firstly, although quite quirky at first, the en-suite bathroom is outside/ outside the room and although this is nice to experience - when it’s raining it’s more of a hinderance… never have I ever had to use an umbrella whilst using the loo before!! - may benefit from having a pull over roof to avoid wet ‘situations’. Secondly, though quite a small issue, the bedroom door didn’t remain closed which may seem very trivial however, when bugs are flying about you want to be able to close the door without having to lock it every time I.e - using the bathroom- that been said- there is a mosquito net over the bed. Thirdly - breakfast was pitiful. You can’t advertise/ additionally charge breakfast and then offer two slices of warm (not toast) bread and a very bland egg- when asked to see if they can prepare Balinese breakfast - this was refused. Lastly- on arrival (after a few hours ride on a scooter) we were told dinner isn’t available as no food has been prepared - this is the last thing we wanted to hear as we just wanted to relax. A few hours later there’s a party going on where everyone was eating???
The view from the rooms is phenomenal. Breakfast is ok, the staff is very friendly. The property is remote and transport is required. Can be expected from a retreat.
Construction was taking place. Made for an early start into the day
The view was spectacular from the balcony. The huts were well placed so that there was privacy from others and was very peaceful in the evening for a good nights rest.
The bathroom could have been placed a bit better as they were located outside of the sleeping area. So when you wanted to go to the toilet at night you had to put clothes on just incase someone saw you. We also found sometimes we recieved an offputting energy from the staff at the time we stayed and almost seemed frustrated to be hosting us which made me feel unconfortable to stay there or ask for anything or any help.
The views are like an oil painting here, very tranquil site and area. John and his wife are always available, super approachable and very helpful, they arranged mopeds and waterfall tours for us quickly and are really friendly and good to chat with. The room is small and cabin like which we really enjoyed as it adds to the mountain adventurous vibe. You can order meals to the room which are home cooked by Johns indonesian family and very tasty, the wifi worked well and the shower was boiling hot also. We felt so good staying here and can't wait to come back and see the guys again
Nothing to add here it was a very nice stay
The view was awesome. We could play billiard for free.
The room for our sons was not what we expected. Really for emergency not more.
This place is my favourite in Bali. Genius in its simplicity. Close to greatest waterfalls ever, Unique feeling of being connected to nature, original Balinese atmosphere and Breathtaking views that 5 stars hotel could only dream of.
Beautiful

Nice area, friendly and helpful stuff, beautiful view, easy to find the property.
There is waterfall close to the property and for me it was bad idea to spend the night close by. Too loud. For me bed was too soft and pillow too high.
Breathtaking views and a really cozy cabin. The whole staff was very friendly and we met cute cats and dogs. Very clean.
The neighbors tend to play their music very loud. That spoiled a lot of the otherwise beautiful experience. The cabin gets quite hot during the day.
Beautiful sunrise over the valley! Lovely host family, great location for exploring the north, yummy local food and choice of western/asian breakfast, clean and cosy rooms with lovely deck and balcony. We had a great stay!
We were very happy and comfortable but a few things might put other people off: You hear some road noise. The rooms are split level with stairs outside (my husband and I split and slept with the kids). The bathrooms are outside but very private, but the flooring is a bit sore on bare feet.
Very spacious parking, friendly staff, road is quite good, hotel territory is clean.
Wonderful peaceful atmosphere owned by a sweet family. Cute animals roaming and I saw a big beautiful tropical spider (far away from my room) along the river.. it was a magical place!
More vegetarian options would be nice :)
The view from the balcony was amazing, overlooking a forest, river stream, mountains and the ocean from afar. It is located 5minutes scooter ride from aling aling waterfall.
The room was very dark. The bed has no mosquito net. The shower is ok but can be a little warmer, 33 degree is ok but can be warmer. The sink is super small for teeth brushing and washing hands. The warung has no one in the evening to serve dinner and the breakfast is just OK..
Fantastic view from the room and restaurant. Absence of yelling imams in evening and morning.
beautiful and comfy, quaint little place. staff extremely helpful. meals were full of flavour and made with smiles. definitely return
nothing
The rooms opened up to amazing views
I didn't find anything to dislike, the hosts where brilliant and very helpful with information about local attractions. Would definitely recommend and hopefully return.
This was the best accommodation we've had in Bali. It was comfortable and clean, the food was just amazing, staff and owners were incredibly helpful and friendly. We were so relaxed throughout our stay here. It was very difficult to leave the hammocks and stunning view (ocean, mountains, forest, rice fields) to explore the area. This in not some luxury resort where you get pampered, it's a cozy bungalow surrounded by nature where you can just exist in peace for a while. It was perfect for us.
