They gave us the top floor corner room the veins were amazing it was clean all the staff were very friendly and helpful.

I booked on a different site not direct so they did not honor my discount, which was also on the site single mother’s trying to get a break. They also charge a resort fee that I was unaware of fees. Add up quickly there I would try the location again if my room was a little cleaner & not falling apart. updated

The thing we liked is being close to the beach. I also liked the sunrise over the ocean in the morning.

This hotel was build in the 80's and you can see it throughout the building. Many things need to be repaired. Lift / Hot tub and multiple outlets through out the building need to be replaced/ repaired.

The room was nice, the furniture was comfortable enough. Having 2 bathrooms was very nice. We visited the restaurant for breakfast, most of the food was great except the eggs, they were weird and not edible for us. The front desk was always available and helped with everything needed. This was our second visit here and I'm sure we'll return.

I realize it was a holiday weekend but the price was a bit high. It would be nice if there was a broom in the room so we could sweep up the sand. The bed was comfy but very low to the ground for us. The rooms were clean enough but a little more attention to the dusty baseboards would be nice.

The place was filthy. Bugs and hair all over the room. Ran out of almost all food at the restaurant when we tried to order. Confirmed with me twice the night before checkout that they took my card off file and would charge the updated one and proceeded to still charge the wrong card. Water stinks so bad, makes you not want to shower in it.

Literally the only good thing about this place is the location.

There was black mold all over our first room and paint peeling in the bathroom over the shower where they had painted over mold. We had cockroaches and had to move. The vents are super musty smelling. We got into a new room down the hall and there was black mold growing all around the beds and a dead cockroach over by the couch. Don't stay here.

All rooms are oceanfront and the beach easily accessible.

Small outside parking lot for trucks that can't fit in the garage. Normal size cars also parked in these spaces. Had to get staff to make some people move their cars, serious inconvenience. Hot Tub looked like maybe 4 adults would be a tight fit and no circulation for some time said one guest. Went to our room the first night and had to kill cockroach's before opening the door. Bathroom for a resort would think to have shampoo/soap that didn't look like would be in a Motel6. Kitchen towel was torn and grungy looking, could almost shake debris from it

Restaurant is only complaint with resort. Several things ordered they did not have.

The condo itself is falling apart. Absolutely filthy. Dishes,floors, furniture. Warped pans. Nothing to scrub dishes with. Drawer in bedroom falls out fell on foot. Kitchen faucet falling off. No linens or blanket for couch. Had to ask. Received a couple of sheets. No blanket. Dead spiders smooshed all over floors. So gross. Hard to relax.

Needs some updating

All the rooms are ocean front with kitchenette. Location is great. Not too crowded on the beach.

Access to the beach wasn’t very easy with a cart and would have a hard time with a wheelchair too. The path to the beach was very narrow with people trying to get by others. Automatic door button was broken to get inside from the beach. Had to ask for a dishcloth and paper towels. The pans provided for cooking were not in very good condition. We actually use the kitchenette to cook. There is limited space for luggage and it was only two of us.

I did not like there was a poorly covered walkway and open to weather elements from room to elevator. It is rather dangerous and unnerving in a severe thunder/lightning storm. The lobby had lots of rain on the floor the morning after storm.

It was my 2nd time staying at Shell Island Resort and would stay again. Staff are friendly and helpful. Very clean and Wrightsville Beach is my favorite Beach to visit.

My family and I stayed at Shell Island Resort in August 2026 and the experience was horrible! The AC was dripping water, dirty floors, the tap water smelled like rotten sewer, & the sofa was filthy! Not one housekeeper came by to ask us if we needed anything the entire 4 days of our stay. We had to go buy our own towels, toilet paper & cleaning supplies! The staff stated that we get housekeepers upon request. What?!? I said this is the first place I've ever stayed where you only get housekeepers upon request! The three idiots at the front desk showed no concern at all when I addressed the issues. One lady walked away as I was talking about the dripping water coming out of the AC! When you pay over $1400+ you expect better service and cleanliness. I'll never stay at this dump again!

It is very old and needs significant updates. Furniture is old and dilapidated.

First of all, we paid for the premium suite with two double beds that sleeps 6 (Room 415). There apparently is little to no maintenance at this resort and no upgrades; the water smelled like rotten eggs (don’t drink); two of our kids got sick; furniture (old) and floors were filthy and the floors were sandy; the water in the shower literally trickled out (completely unacceptable); there’s one trash bag for your entire stay and a tiny round bar of soap; there’s no room service. There was blood or something that looked like blood on my comforter and sheets were stained. The restaurant is mediocre at best. The staff were nice. The filter to the ice machine was disconnected so the ice is not filtered. My daughter’s room (Room 416) had a terrible musty smell so the balcony door and room door were open most of the time during the day while in the room to air it out. It’s a real shame the rooms were so dated and dirty because the layout of the rooms were pretty cool and the view of the ocean from the room was amazing. The air-conditioning worked great, and the beach and views of the beach were incredible.

The suites are a good size. It's a more dated property but overall just lovely. Great pool space and the pool was actually refreshing! Loved the tiki bar and it was nice to have food on site. The hotel is ON the beach and all rooms with ocean views. Loved that and I will definitely return.

The bed was fine however the linens were terrible. thin and scratchy. Next time I would bring my own sheets.

Was blown away when I entered our unit and saw the incredible floor to ceiling windows. So pleased with the pool, hot tub and accessibility of the beach. This was especially great because my one of our party had limited mobility and was able to enjoy the surf from the unit and balcony.

Not enough pillows in the pool area. The TV directions were confusing and not needed after the TV technician adjusted things. It should have been that way to begin with. Menu in room should match that in the restaurant. Would have liked to purchase a pastry somewhere.

Our family stayed here for a week and had a great experience overall. The beach views are absolutely incredible, and it’s just a short walk from the resort. The resort also offers an umbrella and two beach chairs for $50 per day, which was convenient. The food was good, and every staff member we encountered was friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. The only downside was that the TV in our bedroom didn’t work. The property is also starting to show its age in a few areas, but since we spent most of our time enjoying the beach and exploring, it wasn’t a major issue. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely book here again.

During my stay at Shell Island, I was disappointed with the overall condition of both the room and the property. The accommodations were noticeably worn and in need of significant maintenance and updates. In my room, the toilet was loose, the floor grout was stained, dirty, and deteriorating in several areas, the towel holders were rusted, and the shower head was extremely loose. The kitchen sink faucet was cracked, and the bed sheets had visible stains. The bedroom window was old, did not seal properly, and appeared insecure, allowing outside air and noise into the room, which made it difficult to get a good night's sleep. Beyond the room itself, the property's overall maintenance was also lacking. Trash cans throughout the property were consistently overflowing, creating an unkempt appearance. During my stay, the atrium in the main lobby had an active leak that left puddles of water on the floor. I was also surprised that there were no drinking water fountains or filtered water stations available anywhere on the property. In fact, members of the staff specifically advised guests not to drink the tap water in the rooms, making the lack of an alternative source of drinking water even more concerning. Overall, the location of the property is excellent, but the condition of the accommodations and the deferred maintenance significantly detracted from the experience. With meaningful renovations, improved housekeeping standards, and better attention to routine maintenance, Shell Island could provide a much more enjoyable stay that better reflects its beachfront location.

The view and comfortability of the bed

Asking for towels several times, TV not working and not being able to share my screen to it, asked for maintenance several times and nobody came, the walls not being properly painted. We could go to a competition for QUARTER of the price of our stay (906$ for a weekend), no free breakfast, both pools closing at 10pm, didn't get to enjoy any since it was swamped by people and we went for our honeymoon. Overnight a million fruit flies showed up in our room after opening the door, no accommodations needed - we were checking out.

The customer service was great. Being able to go straight to the beach and then the indoor or outdoor pool was great.

The mini fridge was freezing up and so a lot of our food got ruined, It needs to either be cleaned or replaced. We had trouble with the A/C unit and the service technician came and looked at it and fixed it, but the same thing kept happening so we fixed it each time. Housekeeping never came to our room and tidied up and we were there for five nights and six days we had to ask for clean towels at the front desk. I think housekeeping needs some help.

We stayed at Shell Island Resort for a recent weekend long family reunion, and overall it was such a fabulous experience. The location can not be beat! The beach is beautiful and the views from our balcony were so calming and relaxing. The front desk staff were so kind, not something you see all the time nowadays. They had to deal with a lot of personality and did not even flinch. The overall building needs some TLC, but nothing that made us worried. The restaurant was nice and they have an outside tiki bar that serves a mean rum runner. Great views and the food was good. Didn't blow your socks off, but consistent and fresh. Our favorite server was Tabitha, she made our family feel like we had been coming there for years. Our family rented an event space to host our big party and it was the perfect size. The manager Brendan did a fantastic job. He and his team were so kind to us and took extra steps to make sure we had what we needed. Our last day we asked to have a photographer for our large family photo out on the beach and Brendan made that happen without hesitation. Would stay again for sure, thank you for taking care of our family!

The room is small and dated. For the price, the towels were thin and had to ask for more towels and soap. The bathroom had one small and I mean small bar of soap. No soap for the shower. We expected the room to be cleaned while we were at the beach but found out that we had to call housekeeping and request it (was not given this information at check in). For the $400+ a night, daily housekeeping without asking and more than one small tiny bar of soap and two towels should be the bare minimum that would have been needed. The guys at the restaurant were all very nice but the food and drinks were pricey.

The View is Amazing. The beach was not crowded. The Pools were clean. The grounds were clean. The food was good.

ZERO room service. We had to request bath towels and soap as needed from the front desk DAILY (5 days). We had to take our own dirty towels to the front desk to make room (There were 5 of us). Restaurant bill exceeded the advertised prices.

My issue with the trip was the room assigned. It had the bare minumum compared to my past stays at the hotel. It was really dated . The coffee pot seemed from a dollar store. There wasnt a normal size skillet. The paper towels were cheap. Plus the hvac vent leaked a little in the hallway..

The unit I stayed in, 218, was not cleaned properly. The furniture in the living room had stains all over it. I used a blanket to cover the sofa so I could sit on it. The utensils in the kitchen were minimal. There were small black bugs in the bathrooms around the sinks. There was a very musty smell in the unit. The one good thing I can say about the inside is the bed was very comfortable. The mattress was firm and I was able to get a good night’s sleep each night I was there.

This place is GROSS and incompetent. First, the room: instant musty smell when we walked in; then dust… lots and lots of dust coming out from the AC vents, so bad that it turned our towels brown(pic below). Then I found the AC intake closet (which is in the center of the suite) and it is caked in dust and possibly mold!! (Pic below) Lastly, there is a random useless window above the bed in the bedroom. The window is right next to you the giant bright fluorescent hallway light. So all night it is like sleeping under a giant spotlight. I had to go buy posterboard at a nearby CVS and tape it over the windows to get any sleep. (Pic below) I had to sit on the balcony and use my inhaler every 4 hours for the entire week. Service: I stayed there for 5 nights with my 9 year old son. Not ONCE did housekeeping come. On day 3 I called the desk to ask what to do with my overflowing trash cans and they said “you can take your trash out to the dumpster at the end of the overflow parking lot” 🤯 When I asked for clean towels they acted like I was insane. There were never any pool towels out. I could understand this at a normal priced hotel. However, at these crazy prices, I should at the very least be able to put my trash out in the hallway and have it taken away, and be able to breathe inside my room.

The room (511) we stayed in needs serious updates. The bed was old and broken. The mattress was terrible no support at all and the box springs were nasty. The shower head just offered a mist of water. Floors need to be replaced. The room also had an old musky smell. This was supposed to be a premium room. We have always loved Shell Island resort as we have stayed here for years, we booked another place for next year. I can’t believe they put people in a room like 511.

Room 218 all flooring was filthy. There was ketchup dripped inside small refrigerator. Refrigerator insulation was cracked in several places needed to be replaced. There was no dish soap supplied in kitchen, bathrooms toilet flush slow bathrooms needed updating, noob was broken on drawer. Cheryl handles and showerhead need replacing shower handle. We had to call Maintenance. It was very old kind of function. No water was coming out, but they showed us a tricky way how to make it work. The room only came with small bar soap,and only shampoo small tube was provided. Hotel did not offer any conditioner for hair. , all trim molding throughout living room bathrooms hallways were not clean or hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. For a cost of three nights day was very disappointing. My expectations were set much higher. The location is what sold me on staying, but I would not stay there again.

View was great ! I liked it being quiet & not crowded. It was a mature group of people with families & children.

The snake bar or food area leaves a lot to be desired. It was under staffed & took a while to get what we ordered. Breakfast wasn’t to bad. Not enough coffee left to fix in the room & had to go to desk to get more.

The location was great. The wifi was fantastic.

Having 2 bathrooms was nice but they need to be updated. It was the first week of June and the restaurant and Tiki bar were not open the first part of the week.

Location is amazing, at the end so you are away from all the noise. There is traffic to get there. Beautiful views. We had 2 rooms for our family stay. One was extremely nice and clean the other was not clean and very outdated. In the dirty room, there was something that had dripped down the front of the toilet, the faucet on the shower had soap scum buildup, the grout in the tiles was dirty and moldy, the air ducts were filthy and looked moldy, the bathroom vanity was rotted out on the bottom, there was mold build up in the corner of the bathroom by the shower, the one toilet had not been scrubbed on the inside, the couch and chairs were stained. One of our rooms was next to the parking garage so everything echoed and was loud for car horns to people talking. Our other room was near the elevator which was also loud and voices carried. This stay was not worth the price that we paid for 2 nights. We had to ask for extra towels. Front desk staff didn't know the answer to some of the questions, like when the restaurant was open and was time they closed. We didn't use the pool and the hot tub was small. The tiki bar was not open on a Saturday which seemed odd. The restaurant was not open for lunch or dinner on Sunday.

The hotel itself was very nice. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The location was amazing. Great views of the ocean and easy access to the beach.

Our primary disappointment was with the room itself. One the positive side, the bed was comfortable and the balcony view was great. Aside from that, everything else was minimally acceptable. One burner on the stovetop did not work. A very nice maintenance team responded and attempted to replace the burner but that did not resolve the issue. Fortunately the other burner did work so we were able to cook our meals. The collection of pots, pans and utensils were very cheap quality and mismatched. The coffee maker provided is very cheap and coffee grounds would spill into the carafe anytime we attempted to brew more than half a pot. No sponge or dish rack was provided for us to wash our dishes during our stay. We made due with a washcloth and hand towel from the bathroom. Knowing that the property is older, we had specifically booked the highest level king room which is described to be have been fully updated. This is why it was very disappointing to still have the room equipped so cheaply when we paid a premium rate. The fitness center was barely usable. There is one cable machine with various attachments and 2 pieces of cardio equipment. The free weights were either very light or only had one available, not a pair. We were able to creatively get a workout done and realize that this is not a primary focus for most visitors. It shows that the hotel also believes this facility is an afterthought.

The BED…way to firm. The Holiday Inns pillow top beds are much more comfortable.

I gave the resort a 4 star rating because the overall experience was wonderful - beach front views at the end of Wrightsville Beach, without the crowds. The hotel was busy, but our room was very quiet. Our kingsize bed was extremely comfortable. Don't sweat over the small stuff - in our room, there were many imperfections of kitchenette cabinet doors not closing completely, missing artwork with hanging hardware still on the wall. The front desk staff were not warm and friendly.

The location was excellent. The beach was clean and private. You had two pools one inside and one outside. The pools were well kept. There was a garage for parking your car. The staff working front desk were very personable and informative. You had ocean views and balcony to enjoy the sunrise and ocean. The rooms had a kitchen, small dining area, sitting area. You had a large connecting bathroom to the bedroom, which accommodated two people at same time. If someone taking a shower, it had two toilets separated by door so you weren't waiting on someone using the shower.if you had to use toilet. You had to drive off property for food, so bring your own food for cooking or snacking.

Since we were visiting in the beginning of May the restaurant and pool bar was not open. There was a small snack shop near front desk, which was not stocked well.

The location and beach views were exceptional. The surrounding area was very nice. Parking was easy. The hotel was reasonably quiet.

The building was old and while clean was in need of an update. The water pressure was poor and the cheap toliet paper was so bad we went out and purchased our own.

Great location and the room layout was very good.

Furniture in the suite was very dated. The sleeper sofa in the sitting room was so old and uncomfortable that we could not sit on it. The room also smelled of stale smoke, possibly in the air conditioning vents from days of old.
