The tv reception was horrible
Everything was great. Clean simple but cosey.
Nothing. I liked everything. Really like the small patio for each room
Loved the staff. They were all so friendly and helpful. The inn is really cool and has a great location; we walked to dinner our first night. Loved our room, especially the bed and the bathroom.
The room didn't have a window I could leave open at night for fresh air. It the sliding glass door to the pool was a little hard to open and close.
The staff is super nice especially the cleaning crew
Bathroom toilet was loose, the beds were to squeaky every time you move you can hear the springs and the tv signal was weak kept pausing and shutting down. We’ve stayed here plenty of times and never experienced this. Seems like upkeep is needed so that the little things get noticed.
It’s proximity to Solvang and restaurants.
It was ridiculous that we were denied water bottles for coffee. Three of us stayed in room 225 and when my cousin asked for more water for coffee, the guy literally argued with her about it & said we had to buy them even though they were tiny bottles that barely made a cup of coffee.
The location is great. It is right off the freeway.
The hotel texts you at 8 AM on Sunday asking you to tell them about your stay. There is nothing that the hotel needs to know about your stay at 8 AM on your location. They should leave you alone and let you enjoy a relaxing morning but instead we were peppered with text messages asking for a review and wanting to know about our stay. It ruined our entire morning and we will not be back.
We enjoyed the amenities like the outdoor firepits and doggie areas. Everything was clean and accessible (I have disabilities and travel w a service animal) the nearby areas are lovely and pool & jacuzzi area was stocked w extra towels. Perfect location off the highway but still just a few minutes from all local attractions.
Television and wifi were unreliable at times
Charming place just outside of Solvang. Beds were pretty comfortable, shower had decent water pressure. Security around the place seemed good, but the neighborhood seemed safe.
Stairs! Little steep for an older person. Only one Ice machine, which was downstairs!
It was clean and neat.
Pool shared with RV park. It got too crowded.
Well appointed room. Comfortable bed. Plenty of towels in bathroom. Woman at check in was very nice. Free donuts.
Noise from swimming pool at night. Rolling bed caster at bottom of bed: I caught my toes on it a couple of times. That hurts! A restaurant for full breakfast would be nice (not that important though).
Location - close to winery. Bed was comfortable. I slept well.
The outside corridors on the 2nd floor are showing wear. There are some patches, but looks like it’s time to redo them.
Location dog friendly
Couldn’t bring food into the bar patio area by fireplace outside
Everything seemed well coordinated and the fire pits were a great touch! The donuts in the lobby really made the stay worth it!
Nothing to say here.
We enjoyed our birthday trip! Sideways inn will not disappoint!☺️
En sierra forma estuvimos bien
Que nos susedio una emergencia y que salimos temprano y que nos nos brindaron ninguna obsion para poder cambiar el día que nos faltaba de estancia y solamente nos cobraron el día
Modern updated room. Amenities in lobby. Nice gym. Lotion and nice things in the bathroom. Clock and places to plug in phone that were convenient.

The rooms are nice.
Everything was good.
Location and how well kept the facility is in and out.
There wasn’t anything negative about staying here.
Location is great 👍 Very close to where we wanna go.
Everything
Nice boutique quite a place on a old hotel property
Bed was big but not comfortable. A hard mattress
Surprised by the quality of this place-comfy bed, big rooms , nice shower, quiet, good vibe all for Avery reasonable price. Lighting could be better, inside room and the security light by my door was very bright which did light up the room-easy fix: smaller wattage bulb or turn the light upwards
Lighting-inside too dim and outside too bright. My Nespresso machine in 244 needs attention -just keeps running
Great location and view
Great for the value
Nice big clean rooms with a mini fridge with a little freezer. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. We were upstairs and our only issues were people were noisy past midnight and our room shook a bit when people walked by. There is an air conditioner in the room so we slept with the fan on to drown out the noise. Also the tv had terrible reception and pixelated every few minutes. But the price was very reasonable!
We stopped here for the night and enjoyed our stay. The bed was comfortable and the area is very quiet considering the freeway is nearby. The hotel itself is very clean, so was our room. Highly recommend it!
Everything!
We had no dislikes at all…loved the place!
Super clean. Friendly staff and beautifully updated. Loved the amenities and our stay there.
You can constantly hear the interstate next to it but it’s right off of the highway so some noise is expected. Not a problem at all.
Location - short drive to wineries and Solvang. Sideways Lounge outdoor seating is comfortable.
Location was great.
They need new mattresses, TV signal kept cutting out our entire stay.
Clean and simple
Cozy
I would love to give Todd a shout out....he was at the front desk when we went in for our donuts and coffee. He greeted us and while we enjoyed our coffee he made sure the coffee bar was completely stocked and clean. When I went back in to drop keys off he greeted me again and asked how our stay was. He continued to tell me why Andersons was not open and that the Sideways Lounge is rolling out a new menu come Monday. Thanks Todd !
TV was having cable issues.
Location, style, simplicity simplicity
I loved staying at sideways inn because the atmosphere is great and it’s really clean. The coffee was so delicious and front desk person was really friendly.
I had a very nice time, I liked the quirkiness of the hotel and the Service, the great donuts, coffee and fruit in the morning were a nice touch. Also enjoyed draft beer at the bar. Its a fun place, a good value, and I plan on returning
The motel is cute. The lounge looked like a lot of fun.
Rooms - broken bathroom barn door wouldn’t lock nor stay closed. Main light was burnt out which made the room dark. Outlets didn’t work. Room door needed to be slammed to shut. Staff was rude and acted as if they didn’t want to be there.
Great place to stay. Good amenities, staff excellent. A little bonus was the free coffee and doughnuts in the morning before leaving.
They were all out if complimentary donuts. Coffee was great! Loved our room with a balcony. Staff was very pleasant. I just wished we booked it for a linger stay.
No donuts. Bedroom mirror seemed like a two way mirror.
Room too dark
Everything was perfect
It’s a charming gem in a central location. Very family friendly.
Close to camp ground
Overall this place was fine for a motel but that wasn't what we thought we were booking. Expedia made it seem like this was a deluxe room basically in solvang and while I saw the address was in Buelton this place was just mediocre motel 6 w a paint job. There is no choice for staying on the first floor and we had disabled people w us and no elevator. There was very little space in the rooms or privacy. overall I wouldn't stay here again.
Clean, comfortable, quiet. Nice outdoor patio. The Staff was great!
Room was wonderful, property had a lot to offer, and it was close to everything we wanted to do. You do need a car to get around but you'd need that no matter where you stay here. Check in was very smooth and staff was very attentive.
There are no elevators so if you have heavy bags or a lot to carry I would suggest a first floor room.
The Sideways Inn, called the Windmill Inn in the movie Sideways (2004) has had a complete renovation and is very nice. The rooms are immaculate, nice balconies/patios overlooking the pool and of course the famous windmill. The lobby had local wines, beer, drinks, souvenirs. Coffee and donuts served in the morning. Excellent value. I will return. Also great place for a birthday party or special event. There is a pool, spa, fitness center and lounge. It is right off the highway with easy access to wineries, restaurants (including the infamous Hitching Post - also in the movie) and the delightful Ostrichland. Plan your trip today! You won't be sorry.
Very clean and comfortable room.
Charming. Close to the the many things we wanted to do
Pool opening at 10. Kids were ready to swim earlier. And as long as no lifeguard is needed, ig could have been earlier. On our last day, we waited patiently until 10. We told the pool is closed for maintenance. If they knew, they should have started maintenance early before 10
Location, the ambient, staff, and donuts for breakfast
The room door not block-out light.
We enjoyed our stay at Sideways Inn while discovering the Buellton area. The hotel has a good layout with pool side patios, a well equipped fitness center, and lively lounge. It is adjacent to Flying Flags RV resort and located close to several wineries and restaurants. The rooms are updated, clean, and have good bedding and furniture. Although it is close to a busy intersection, it is peaceful and quiet. The lobby offers coffee all day and we enjoyed donuts on Sunday morning. Overall it is a nice place to stay for a few days.
Gym!
No foam roller and stretch matt in the gym
Great, clean and big rooms! We truly enjoyed our stay and the drinks in their beautiful bar! We will definitely stay again.
Location and ease checking in
The lighting inside the room was too dim; bathroom is nice and bright but rest of room too dark
Great location. Big room. Great value. Very clean. Wonderful staff. We will be back! Rehabbed hotel with lots of rooms that are well maintained. Cool bar and great free coffee and donuts in the lobby
Location is great and part of the family stayed next door at Flying Flags.
The room is dark with minimal lights plus the lights that are in the room are very dim.
I stayed over night and enjoyed my stay at the Sideways Inn. The location was excellent, the room clean and the bed comfortable. The Hitching Post II and AJ Spurs were both in walking distance and I went to both places. Sideways Lounge was fun and $12 food/beverage voucher was appreciated. I highly recommend the Sideways Inn.
Staff
Tv cable did not work most of the time
Close to Solvang and Flying Flags
Rooms were dark inside. Shower pressure was very low
Great location en route to Hearst Castle and Big Sur. Room was a very good size for a motel type of inn, and very clean. Fun place if you are a fan of the movie Sideways, as we are. Nice seating around the pool area with gas fireplaces to sit outdoors on a cooler evening. Very close to lovely town of Solvang nearby and wine country.
No breakfast provided other than a few donuts that were gone before we could get to them. Entrance is tricky and hard to spot coming off the highway, tucked behind the Shell petrol station.
Are friends were staying at the RV park next door. It made it fun for all
The pool area was great, even though we were promised pool towel and there were none.
We have stayed at Sideways for many years, even before their rehab. Use to be a darling boutique hotel, hanging goodies on your door every morning from local bakeries. Now, they serve coffee and donuts in the office. Their prices have increased significantly and their services have declined. We arrived early to the hotel because my husband had a dental appointment in Solvang. We had done that many times before because we have family in the area, however, this time they charged us FIFTY DOLLARS, even though our room was ready. (Had they planned on renting out our room for 4 hours??) We were informed that they DO NOT clean the room during our stay and to call the office if we needed more towels, however there is no phone in the rooms. My husband went to the office to get more towels and was shown a wire rackl of towels to choose from. Bottom line, there are too many cute boutique hotels in the area to choose from. We will not be staying at Sideways again.
We visited the Sideways Hotel because of the movie Sideways and we wanted to explore the area. What a great surprise! I was expecting a fairly rundown older hotel. When we were checking in, the desk clerk shared the fact that the hotel had been bought about 10 years ago and completely renovated. Our room was bright and welcoming and the bathroom was also done quite nicely. The staff from check in, to checkout, and the lounge bartender were all extremely friendly and great to deal with. I would highly recommend this hotel. Great place to stay.
The reception area was really nice, staff responsive, plenty of parking, rooms very clean. I loved the sepia pictures in the room. A really good value just a few miles away from Solvang.
This is our 5th stay and a good base to explore the region. It's a great place and family-friendly.
Nice clean room that was a good value. Very close to the campsite and able to walk to restaurants, and stores. The coffee and donuts in the am are a nice touch.
Front desk service was excellent. Enjoyed the morning coffee and donuts. Swimming pool and jacuzzi was clean and the water temperature was comfortable.
Great location. Loved that we could use the campground amenities!
The AC system didn’t work great! There was no shower gel in the shower.
Always a go-to when in Buellton, this hotel is the best! Rooms are modern Scandinavian. Clean, comfortable & the decor is so inviting. Bathroom is large with a walk-in shower. so nice! The historic pictures of cowboys & local ranchers gives the room that special ambiance. Right next door to the Flying Flags Resort & as a guest of Sideways, you have access to all of the amenities of the FF Resort. Definitely will always come back to our favorite stay!
Everything
Water pressure/ shower head. Unpleasant shower experience. The Hotel is aware. Working on the issue.
We've stayed here several times over the last few years. If you're visiting the Buellton, Solvang, Los Olivos area this place is a solid budget hotel. Their rates fit us, as a retired couple on a fixed income. I'll get the negatives out of the way first - the A/C in our room was too loud and the mattress had seen better days. Other than that, the place was fine. Good selection of TV channels (via Dish Network), pretty good Wi-Fi considering we were as far from the office building as we could be. A huge plus for me is the addition of covered parking in the entire lot. Last time we stayed there were a couple rows of covered parking, but since then they've done the whole thing. As one who keeps our cars as clean as possible, I appreciated this feature a LOT. The staff is friendly and efficient. Another big plus is, as early risers, they brew fresh coffee pretty much 24/7, and it's good coffee. We'll be back next time we visit the area.
Great place to stay! Friendly staff and good location. It was within driving distance to Los Olivos for great wine tasting! Loved the fire pits and the availability of the on-site lounge!
The hotel seems to have lost it's charm. We used to order a fun free breakfast to be delivered at at room. Now they have donuts if there are any left when you get to the reception area. The hot tub was broken. They said we could use the next door's hot tub, and it looked a little greenish and was not very hot.
Room was clean. bed was comfortable.
Old and needs an upgrade. Restaurant food not very good.
Office open 24 hours for tea and coffee, great location. Easy short walk to Flying Flags campground
Room was dark
Our room was clean, and spacious The staff were very friendly. It was close to Solvang, Los Olivos, and Cachuma lake. There was plenty of parking, and the solar panels allowed for shade.

Very comfortable. well maintained inn, professional and friendly staff. Find it because of the movie, return because you've had an excellent experience.
Great location - close to Solvang and wineries! We also liked walking around the adjacent campground.
