The setting is wonderful. The birds are singing and it’s peaceful. Perfect to have a little car to explore the island. Loved it!
The accommodation is immaculately set up. Very comfortable and clean but in a wonderful nature setting with stunning views. The host goes above and beyond to ensure a wonderful stay. Courtesy cars just make transport so very easy.
I cant fault this accommodation.
Im Preis inbegriffen war ein kleines Mietauto, was sehr hilfreich war, da die Lodge ausserhalb des Dorfes lag.
Trotz allem war es etwas teuer
Peaceful, relaxing and super comfortable
Location and provided a mini EV
Bathroom is big and nice but sink is too small
The cabin was very comfortable, with everything we needed to self cater for 4 days. Great view from the deck. Although out of town, it was in a lovely location, and the price included the use of a small car for getting around. Bill was a friendly host who provided a short tour on our arrival. Transfers were also included. Would definitely like to return one day.
Sadly, we didn't have a visit from the kakas, although they were spotted in the nearby trees.
The location was great, a cabin in amongst the bush and continuous bird song. A courtesy car was a treat as we were out from the township. An excellent supply of coffee, tea etc with a litre bottle of milk and a jar of biscuits. Everything we needed and wanted and more.
No.
Just an amazing and well equipped cabin with a beautiful view of the ocean. We had the use of a car which was very useful for going to town. Bill was very helpful and welcoming. Highly recommend!
Nothing at all.
Beautiful location.
Great host who picked us up at the ferry terminal and provided a driving tour of the village and surrounding area upon our arrival. Comfortable cabin/cottage with a view (albeit a bit obstructed) of the bay. Courtesy car provided for our exclusive use so we didn't have to rent one, which we would have had to because the location of the property is 2 km away from the village. In a forest/jungle setting away from the hustle and bustle of the village.
Seemed to be a bit pricey for a small cabin, but again, a car is provided and the setting is beautiful.
The beauty and peace!
Nothing
Anchorstone is pure magic. The location was amazing, the facilities were great and the views were incredible. Bill was so good nothing was a problem he was so good at telling you what was in in the area, what was available to see, where was were, how to go about catching water taxi and great knowledge of the area. Having a car available was so good as we could just go and do our own thing.
Came with a rental car, pickup from town to accommodation, and location was fantastic.
Location and clean facilities
Everything was perfect, right down to the good coffee!
The accommodation hut next to our unit was a little to close.
Super Lage, toller Ausblick, gut funktionierende Heizung
Kein richtiger Tisch, keine richtigen Stühle. Das zweite Bett füllt den Raum zu sehr
Amazing location. So peaceful & idyllic
Set in the middle of the forest. Wildlife all around. Very clean & comfortable accommodation. Very helpful host.
Perfect cabins in a beautiful bush location. Everything needed is in the cabin, lots of info and thoughtful extras like delicious biscuits, insect repellent, plenty of pillows and towels. Bill was a brilliant host and the use of the car is so handy. Lived it.
The cabin is very comfortable and the view over Hslfmoon bay is beauiful. We had a kaka bird visiting on the balcony And I saw a kiwi on the premises at 10 pm!
The native birds forever in your presence, the tui, the kereru and the cheeky kākā
Absolutely nothing to dislike!!!
Friendly and very accommodating host, loved all the wild birds we saw right outside our balcony and window! There were Kaka birds that came right up to us and beautiful sounds on Tui singing endlessly. Thank you Bill and to our surprise it came with a car as well, which we got around Stewart island much more efficiently. I would definitely come back here and stay happily 😊
Na
Loved everything, could stay longer if I could
Lovely location, quiet, good view, pleasant host and great to be able to hire a car from the accommodation provider.
It was nice accommodation but is definitely not luxury (and is overpriced for what you get).
Great location. Quite a bit outside of the Centre of Oban, but therefore quiet, exactly what we like. You need transport given the distance to the center, but the cars (available for small daily charge) provide that freedom and opportunity. Luxurous cabins. We had the bad luck that during our stay, the water pump broke down, meaning that our cabin didn’t have any running water during 3 out of our 4 days. However, the owner did everything to find solutions (helping us finding a place to shower and getting us drinking water), and compensated us very generously. Therefore, we highly recommend!
The cars were very handy to get around
The location, views, privacy and amenities, including a vehicle for touring the island. Our host was exceptional in all ways!
An island-wide power outage that couldn’t be helped! It’s a good reminder to always travel with some extra food for an emergency meal!
Loved the location and the use of the suzuki ignis it made it so enjoyable 😉
Exceptional service, Kath, Bill, and Joe, really did go above and beyond to make our stay a lovely experience. Joe was a great help on the first day helping us get ready for our hike and getting settled in Oban, and I cannot thank them enough for the loan of Bill's old hiking shoes (after I forgot mine!) to do the Rakiura Track, just great people really welcoming and so accomodating they made our stay a wonderful experience! The ability to rent your own car (one per cabin) for a very reasonable fee was a super add on. The property had a unique character lovely gardens and setting, the cabins were beautifully appointed and had everything we needed, lovely sitting on the deck with an awesome vista of Horseshoe bay!
Nothing everything was great!
We loved the cabin warm clean comfy bed.great shower. Exceptional use of the car which took us all over the island
What a peaceful spot with the sounds of native birds twittering all around you. A friendly fantail and Kaka come to visit for a chat. Having the ability to use one of their cars was also a godsend and allowed you to explore more of the island. I would recommend this place to anyone wishing to stay on the island.
Location scenic n quiet.
Seats/Couch in cabin.
Only a few guests. Bill was fantastic and always looked to see what he could do to help.
The owner Bill was amazing. Picked up up from town and gave us a tour of the island before taking us to the accommodation which was very lovely. Also supplied us with a small car at a minor cost to get around on the island. would highly recommend!
Nothing it was perfect for us
The location was a treat - you look off your porch into the forest - and the cabins were great. You are outside of town, but each guest cabin has a car available for their use (small extra charge for the days you use it) The kitchenette worked well for modest meals (lunch sandwiches, pasta dinner) Bill met us at the ferry, gave us a brief tour and time for a grocery stop. Good hiking advice too! Stewart Island is special and Anchorstone is lovely.
Despite wandering in my pajamas, with binoculars and a red covered flashlight, the kiwi birds did not come wander across my path. We should've booked a kiwi-spotting tour!
The view from our cabin was absolutely beautiful of the beach. The host picked us up from the ferry and gave us a tour of the town which was very helpful in planning all of our activities. He also gave us great information on the history of the island. The setting was peaceful and lovely and the hosts were so gracious. We would definitely come back. If you can stay here... do!
We loved the very comfortable, warm luxurious cottage. Had a lovely ambiance with beautiful landscaping that matched the location in the island paradise of Stewart Island, with beaches and bush walks close by.
We wouldn’t have changed anything.
An awesome cabin with a very comfortable bed. Luxurious pillows were so comfortable. Beautifully clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The use of a car was the icing on the cake and made it so easy for us to get around the island.
Beach view surrounded in native bush. The use of the car to drive around the island and explore.
We felt so well looked after right from Bill picking us up from the ferry, taking us on an informative and witty tour of Oban and surrounding areas, to settling us into the lodge. The lodge itself is excellent, with a huge comfortable bed, well stocked kitchen and a bathroom with a great shower! The car loan was ideal to get around and really appreciated. The lodge is in an incredible location, set in amazing gardens amongst trees, with views over Horseshoe Bay.
It seems picky to mention anything negative about such a great place but bedside tables/cabinets would be useful. I'm not sure what you could do about it but it's a shame to lose so much space to a second (single) bed if you're not using it
Peaceful and secluded The car provided was really helpful and for our sole use.
Owners were super lovely and helped return an item I left on the island asap! They picked us up from the ferry and had a courtesy car we could hire during our stay which was invaluable. Cabins are fairly close to each other but private enough we could enjoy our stay. Had washer and dryer available if needed.
Beautiful view and garden setting. Cottage was very comfortable and clean. It had everything we needed. Also, enjoyed the front porch.
Nothing
The setting is amazing The host's are very helpful and friendly The cabin was beautiful. The birds were all around us. The old large native trees are special The island is a revolution and we want to come back.
Nothing to not like
Greate view and location. No noise. Had all what I needed for my stay.
There is nothing to mention.
It was immaculately clean, lovely bush, and the kakas were very friendly. Bill was very helpful with information
It was hard to sit down for dinner with four of us but we made it. Felt like very posh camping as we bbq’ed in one else and ate in the other. However, it was exactly as described and we loved it
The quietness and comfort was welcomed.
Not a thing.
Delivered its promise of seclusion, comfort and amenities. Bed was super comfortable and the shower was brilliant. Tip to travellers definitely take the on site vehicle offer as you’ll appreciate the wheels when the weather turns in an instant.
Just a couple of small fly screens to strategic windows in order to get some fresh air without sandflies, and a bit more storage space for clothes please
very private and quiet
quiet location & friendly staff--a great place to take a break
Great location
All good
The location, comfort, spacious bathroom, friendliness and relaxed atmosphere created by owners, plus the use of a property car while staying which made travel to walking tracks and the main centre so easy.
It was all great.
Comfy bed. All we needed in the room. Very quiet spot in the bush and handy to beaches
Nothing
The accommodation was unlike anywhere we've stayed before, but in the best possible way. Really allows you to get back to nature, but with city lifes most desired conveniences still close at hand. The views from the window/balcony area are gorgeous, the guest house itself was cosy, spacious and really quiet, but is also close to beaches and areas where lots of birds like to reside, which is awesome. The kitchen and bathroom facilities were fab and really well stocked. The big comfy beds with lots of pillows and blankets, as well as a few additional heating options were so helpful and welcoming as we went during the colder, rainier season. We spent a lot of time exploring the island but I could have just as happily spent all my time in our cosy Anchorstone home away from home.
Everything was fantastic, but I guess if you don't drive like us, you might find it a bit of a chore getting back to Anchorstone after a long day of exploring, due to the hilly roads (I have knee problems so struggled a little the first couple of days) - however there is a taxi service and Bill did offer to give a lift if needed, so not something to complain about, we just should have planned a bit better based on the location ^_^
The location has beautiful views. Nestled in the bush and can see and hear all the birdlife. You can teh waves on the beach below.
Calm, quiet, lovely vegetation and views
Peacefully spot.Nice walk to township.Great host
Weather not the best
Use of their small car was a huge bonus!
Bill was a very pleasant and helpful host. The cabin was very comfortable, modern and well stocked.
Lounge chairs would have been useful
Loved Anchorstone. The view, our cabin, the host, the wildlife. Owner provided a little car to get to Oban which was brilliant.
Everything - location, design, cleanliness, use of car, great comms, and warm owner welcome. Very thoughtful details including interesting books about the island, kiwi spotting torch, cafetiere, hot water bottles. Just a delightful, memorable stay. Thank you! 😊
We didn't see kiwi birds- but that had nothing to do with the accommodation!
It is a very comfortabe place to stay. Very nice to have a care availiabe for very low costs
It is a little bit remote from the locations for a good breakfast or dinner.
Location was excellent. Central to all attractions. Car provided for convenience was fantastic
The property was situated in a beautiful spot away from the main bay. The view is fabulous.
Nothing.
Everything this is a great place to stay if you are coming to Stewart Island ,Lodges are super comfortable well equipped and clean and use of a car for nominal charge was amazing
Nothing all great
Fabulous accommodation and views.
Location is out of town in lush vegetation. But a car provided. Really needed and a good idea. Great instructions on what to do on the island. Lots of attention to detail. Coffee set up superior. Same for tea. Loved the egg cups! Who thinks of that! An extremely comfortable bed.
Nothing
Wildlife and location
The location, the comfort, the view, the courtesy
Zero
Great location with a fabulous view. Comfortable accommodation with everything you need and use of a car as well.
Absolutely beautiful!
Loved the location, nestled amongst the bush & great views of Horsehoe Bay, which gave you a sense of true relaxing isolation. The hosts were very friendly & helpful. We were able to rent a car from the property for our entire stay as you do need this to explore the island, get groceries, with ease & it was very reasonable. Loved the outdoor fireplace, great area to have your dinner & drinks, although they could do with an outdoor table & a dry firewood supply.
Thought we would see Kiwi's around the property, but no matter as there was lots of birdlife, Tui's & Kaka's in particular. Don't leave your door open, the Kaka bird may like your food.
Great location, and a beautiful cabin. The owner picked us up and dropped us off at the ferry. The property’s rental car option made it possible for us to easily explore the island’s roads.
Perfect location close to town but away from the crowds. Picture postcard view of Horseshoe Bay. Birds and springtime flowers everywhere.
We could not have been happier with our stay. After several days of travel our real holiday began at Anchorstone.
Use of car to drive round. Friendly host. Lift to and from airport. Beautiful surroundings.
Great location, we spotted kiwis on both nights right outside the accomodation! And we got a visit from a kaka outside our cabin. When we left, we got a present😊
Rather pricy
Superb accommodation. Comfortable cabins with a lovely view. Amazingly comfortable beds and kitchen well-furnished to allow for home cooked meals. The use of the car was a great touch, although close enough to Oban to walk.
Beautiful location, quiet, pleasant walk from town
Super king bed, while very comfy, plus other bed, pretty much fills the room leaving little room for anything else - comfy chairs will make it even more wonderful
Loved the view and surrounding bush, that was exceptional. Having the little car to run around in was great and in fact necessary, as the property wasn't that close to town. The cabin was comfortable if a little smaller than expected. There was a laundry room where you could wash your clothes so that was really useful. The owners were helpful and nice.
Even considering the inclusion of a car the property was overpriced. There were no drawers or wardrobe to unpack clothes and barely enough room to leave the two suitcases open.
The cabin was lovely and the staff so helpful
Peaceful spotlessly clean cabin with kitchenette, comfortable bed, lovely ocean view, chocolate for our coffee, the use of a car, and extremely attentive proprietors. Bill picked us up at the ferry, gave us a brief tour of the island, and a ride back to the ferry at the end of our stay. When the car battery died because we stupidly left the lights on, the whole family (Bill, his mom, and his brother) turned out to help us charge the car and make it to our dinner reservation on time.
