Deann and Chris were amazing hosts, incredibly helpful especially when we ran into trouble with one of our tours. The food was excellent, and the lodge was very comfortable. The location and surroundings were stunning.

The location and setting of Church Hill are truly beautiful, relaxing and special. The room was scrupulously clean, continually maintained and provided everything needed for our stay and more. All the food at Church Hill was exceptional. We were very well looked after throughout our stay. Bonus points for Alfie the dog!

The price was quite high; the stay was really good but I would have preferred to spend less on our accommodation for the trip.

Everything! It starts with exceptional service. Deanne and Chris are driven by service and manage the little details so well. This is the only rating I have ever scored a property 100% but it is fully earned.

Everything was wonderful. Chris & Deanne are welcoming and friendly. Chris kindly drove us to Gold Bay for morning outings and transferred us (and our luggage) from the ferry and to the airport check-in. Deanne cooked lovely breakfasts (homemade crumpets!) and amazing dinners. The room was comfortable and I loved the bathroom design (I want that at home!). Everything was perfection.

Our stay at Church Hill Lodge was idyllic. The facility was extremely convenient to Oban town. Our room was immaculate and had a great view of the harbor. The meals (breakfast and dinner) were incredible, and the staff was welcoming, engaging, and charming.

The only thing that would make our experience better, would be if we could have stayed longer.

Liked how handy it was to the town centre and that it was clean and really comfortable. The owners Chris & Deanne also couldn't do enough for us which was lovely and made the stay very relaxing. With me being in a moon boot Chris happily offered to take us around and drop us off wherever we needed to go which was much appreciated. Enjoyed a nice relaxing stay at the lovely Church Hill Boutique Lodge.

The entire Church Hill Boutique Lodge and Restaurant set up is designed to please even the pickiest customer. The lodge room is spacious with beautifully upholstered sitting chairs, a huge king-sized comfortable bed, and a warm wool throw for afternoon naps. The bathroom has a roll-in shower with a hand-held device to blast away the aches and pains of all the hill climbing. The mirror has a de-fog function and there is a nightlight to help you find your way. There are high quality Breville appliances available -- a water heater and a coffee machine, a teapot with filter, and plenty of loose leaf tea and coffee pods. The restaurant in the front portion of the Sara's house provides diners with a view of the bay or a place by the fire. The restaurant is filled with antiques and works of art, some by Deanne herself. Fabrics, dried flowers and herbs, and shell flatware rings decorate the table. Deanne the Chef is top quality. We ate dinner there twice just to try the various offerings - mussel patties, mutton bird potstickers, gourmet lamb chops in a wine reduction, baked blue cod with kumara, crispy salmon skin and salmon on potato cakes -- all of which were unusual and delicious! The flavors went together wonderfully. Moreover, the presentation of the dishes was exquisite! Deanne uses a lot of her home made jams, canned fruit, granola, and wonderful breads available at breakfast. Chris is the sommelier and server, and disappears while you're eating dinner to turn down the bed and put chocolates on the night stand, and who will pick you up at the ferry and take you to the airport and other harbor if needs be. He is very knowledgeable about the history of the island and has a wealth of other information to share with you. I was saddened to find that the Saras have the restaurant and lodge on the market. I'd advise those of you wanting an A-one getaway to get down to Steward Island while the Saras are still there.

Chris and Deanne are a great team. We enjoyed our conversations with them and their hospitality. We both liked the option to pick your breakfast time and select what you wanted from the menu. We stayed three nights and ate dinner there each night and were never disappointed, great selections too. Chris was more than willing to provide a lift somewhere when needed. We highly recommend a stay at Church Hill.

Location overlooking the bay. Proximity to the terminal and town. High end accommodation. Awesome hosts. The in-house restaurant was a highlight showcasing both the local cuisine and home grown vegetables and fruit. Nothing was to much for our hosts who really made our stay a wonderful experience.

Very comfortable and well-appointed. Excellent hosts, including Alfie the Cavoodle! We appreciated the little touches, such as baking and fruit in the room, umbrellas provided, car service, and quality toiletries. Delicious breakfasts and dinner with other guests, highlighting local produce. Thanks for a fabulous stay, hope to be back one day!

This small boutique hotel is a gem. Sat just above the bay great views from our room and a very short walk to the harbour and facilities. The owners Deanne and Chris really looked after us and the food was exceptional. A welcoming Alfie the dog was just an extra bonus!

The owners, Deanne and Chris, were wonderful hosts. The lodge has 3 modern and spacious cottages with view of the harbor. They were well furnished, clean, and our bed was very comfortable. The water pressure of the shower was one of the best ever encountered in a hotel on our many travels. We had 3 dinners at the lodge and they were excellent and beautifully presented.

Amazing location with extremely high standard of fittings. We had both dinner and breakfast prepared by the owners who are qualified chefs, again a high standard. Chris took us for a tiki tour around the island. Would highly recommend

An exceptional property, managed by a caring, lovely, smart and talented couple. Perched on the hillside overlooking Halfmoon Bay, this lovely boutique lodge features by-far the best food and rooms on Stewart Island. This was our 2nd stay here, and it was even better than we remembered. All of the rooms are modern, extremely well-appointed, and have fern-framed views of the harbour, and the beds are wonderful. You'll be amazed by the quality and imagination of the meals as well as the extensive wine list and whiskey/spirits/apertif choices-- Deanne is a fabulous chef, and photographer! Chris is knowledgeable, warm, interesting and kindly willing to transport guests from the SI ferry or airport to the Lodge, and to the Ulva Island ferry dock or tracks. We love visiting here... there's nothing like it!

Everything was amazing, beautiful room, comfy beds, great view from room, lovely shower. The food was beautiful, freshly cooked breakfast and gourmet dinners, great wine list, very yummy cakes and biscuits and a Nespresso coffee machine in our room and most of all the hosts were fantastic.

We liked the friendliness of the owners and the facilities they provided. Breakfast was always nicely presented and tasty, bacon maybe a bit too crispy. The room was very well appointed and comfortable. We especially liked having a sink separate to the bathroom sink.

We have travelled the world and the cost of the room was a bit over the top. There was subtle pressure to dine-in and apart from it also being comparatively very expensive, it wasn't the experience that we wanted.

The property was absolutely beautiful nice and private yet so close to everything you needed , Deanna and chis made our stay so relaxed and easy providing us with everything we needed. Deanna cooking was exceptional would highly recommend to anyone who looking for a relaxing experience of Stewart island

This lodge is exceptional. It is so well appointed and has everything you would ever need to hand. We were collected from the ferry by Chris, who is front of house, then met Deanne who does all the cooking. The lodge had a lovely island outlook, perfect bedding and bathroom with lovely touches like home baking. Quiet and very private. The dinners and breakfasts were amazing. Perfect presentation, great choices, local produce- just wonderful. Deanne even gave me one of her recipes! Nothing was too much trouble. This was the perfect place to stay and eat on Stewart Island

The room was beautiful and comfortable, and the view just gorgeous. Stewart Island is stunning and we're so glad we visited and stayed here at Church Hill for our special anniversary. Chris and Deanne were so professional in what they do and making sure the guests feels good and eat good. Deanne is such a fantastic cook and Chris is funny and super approachable and friendly and brought us round the island as introduction out of goodwill. Whenever we need help or a ride, we just have to give either of them a call and they’ll come pick us up! Such gestures really warm the cockles of our hearts!

Minor feedback - a bit more selection for breakfast and dinner would be good.
