Location was perfect for our stay. Staff were brilliant and welcoming
None as it was an overnight stay
The swimming pool jacuzzi sauna and steam room was closed I was disappointed that is the reason I picked this hotel.
Good location and friendly staff
Very limited breakfast food and on the final morning of my stay there was nothing left so I prepaid for a breakfast I didn't get. The pool was having maintenance but I wasn't told this at check in, shower in the room ran hot and cold and the plughole was blocked, room had a nicotine smell that wouldn't go away, no extra pillows in the room and the one that I had was very flat. Asked for some of the breakfast items on the menu but they didn't have any of them.
We booked it to stay the night as we had a party to go to in the evening. It was the perfect location. The staff who we came into contact with from checking in to checking out were lovely .
There was nothing not to like

Great location
It would be OK as a hotel if it weren't for the bad parts that killed it for me. I appreciated the fridge being cold. In many hotels the fridges are barely colder than room temperature.
I cannot tell you enough how huge a problem it was for me that the windows could not be opened. It's simply inhumane to design, build and keep in use a hotel where the windows are never meant to be opened! INHUMANE! I would have left if I had had a choice of accommodation. I wouldn't have booked it if I had known. I had not read the reviews because I booked late and only had two options, this one being double the cost of the other, but much, much closer to the venue I was interested in (World of Glass). It's rare to have this window problem in Europe, so I did not think to check in the reviews. It was rated above 8 and I was not suspicious. Have you never thought that the AC may not work one day? What do you do then????? The room smelled of cigarettes no matter how long the AC was on during the day, when I was away. The window situation simply ruined my stay. I was constantly trying to find options to get out of there, give up the festival, find another plane ticket and return home early. There were no other places to stay. I didn't leave, in the end, because of the extra costs. And I had spent 1000 euros to be at the glass festival... only to leave early because of your stupid hotel...? As for the staff... there was nobody at the reception when I arrived in the evening and the call for assistance was ignored. Another guest went to the bar to get someone. The morning reception staff were OK. The cleaner may do a reasonably good job in general (waste, washbasin, toilet etc.), but doesn't routinely check the soap dispensers. Mine was empty the last two days, but nobody noticed. And there were spiderwebs in a corner by the bedside table. In an otherwise clean enough room. I think there was dust on the coat hangers, but I was too tired upon arrival to have a proper look and make sure, I just used them. The TV remote control's volume buttons worked the other way around. Had to get used to the anomaly...
The room size and bed. Very comfortable
Location and just seeing the pilkington glass factory from the window. There were no exit signs leading out of the car park. So had to use the entrance. This could get problematic if hotel gets busy.
On arrival for 12pm for a wedding at 2pm we had been advised our room would be ready for us to get ready - to then be told its not and to wait to then be advised at 12:15 your room is ready and there is a £30 early checkin fee ( not once was this mentioned ) the after that to be told ooh and a £50 deposit ( again not mentioned or mentioned in any documentation)
Close to rugby ground and plenty of parking
We had a disabled room and wasn’t told this on check in and we didn’t request this. It was clean though and we were only there 1 night so didn’t say anything
The spa facility was great and rooms were clean and comfortable
We were told we could always order drinks via room service and that the bar was always open. It shut most nights by 12.30 and we were told no other drinks could be ordered or room service. There were also 2 weddings that took over even the foyer and left it in absolute shambles. Shouting/kids running riot and people sat around in dressing gowns and slippers on partners laps. Very bizarre
Very comfy bed
Horrible, cold, harsh lighting in the room
Breakfast is good, and location is great.
Hotel was close to people we were visiting. Plus it was close to shops.
Nothing much, although the extractor didn’t work and a very squeaky bathroom door. I also thought the price was rather high, the difference between other rooms was only an espresso machine and a pair of slipper and use of a robe. Lastly there was no electric charging for the car, which we thought was there.
Lovely hotel. Clean room, the breakfast was very good and the staff were very friendly and extremely attentive.
Proximity to town, clean and welcoming. Great friendly staff
Nothing
Location, modern outlook and clean welcoming appearance
Nothin
breakfast very good, plenty of choice. I enjoyed not being rushed. All staff were very friendly and helpful. room was comfortable and very clean. nice sitting area in the foyer.
The room close to the lift. The closeness to the Shops. Rooms were lovely and large Beds were comfortable Staff courteous and friendly The hairdryer was great... Some dont work in places Iive stayed
I liked everything.
friendly helpful staff and great to have a car park. Easy access to shops
noisy plumbing heating that did imapct my sleep
Lovely clean room on the first floor as requested. Swimming pool was a bonus and the seating area and bar by reception all very convenient.
Only improvement would be the pillows. I found them quite hard and whilst there were spare sets on the wardrobe they were hard too. I went to the store next door to the hotel and bought softer ones for the duration of my stay.
There was a big car park with plenty of parking space. The room was spacious and clean.
Location is perfect and the staff is always nice
Only thing I don’t like is everything is pay by card
Quick and was check in
You have to leave a £50 deposit which you don't know about until you check in
close to everything definitely come back again amazing hotel
nothing
Breakfast was Ok. Have changed review to 1 as we have been given a parking ticket for £100 2 weeks later! Reception were unhelpful. We definitely logged car in at reception. No confirmation email found so it's our problem. We have used Mercure here and other locations before without problems. Never again .
Breakfast was OK but buffet style was difficult due to mobility difficulties. Not able to have hot drinks and hot food to enjoy at same time, so breakfast was more expensive for less food/quality. Last time we stayed we had table service .
spacious clean rooms
Air conditioning was broken and no other room was available. Ended up going home and not staying the night. Waste of money and time
Good location for exploring both Liverpool and Manchester!
Bed comfy
Nothing
Great location to the train station and supermarkets, all within walking distance.
The bed was a little too soft for my liking, but that is in no way a reflection of the hotel. I just prefer a harder mattress.
Great staff, comfortable bed, easy to get to the town center.
A window that opened. Housekeeping could have been better, it was clean but not thoroughly clean.
Location for our needs. Room fab!
Unfortunatly key card kept faulting.
Clean, big spacious room, bathroom was clean. Bed was very comfy. Swimming pool and jacuzzi were clean just busy.
Male receptionist came across very rude and abrupt. No information given.
Location
Reception staff were very rude and unwelcoming
Good location
The rooms were a little dated
Le personnel du petit déjeuner notamment a été super, souriant et efficace, notamment Anna Maria !
Les instructions concernant le réglage de la climatisation n'étaient pas très claires.
The friendly professional staff. We had an issue with our room upon arrival. It was quickly accessed and we were moved with fuss or hesitation.
Nothing
Amazing hotel. I would definitely stay again

I had to cancel my booking due to health problems and got this unsympathetic (in photos) will not book agai
I am currently here on a one night stay, on a Sunday night and have to be up at 6am Monday morning. There is a party happening in their conference room until midnight which wasn't mentioned upon booking, tonnes of kids running around everywhere screaming, swearing and shouting. Staff told me “it is what it is” a night porter said “nothing I can do about it” I asked if the hotel would let people know if there is am event happening that would impact getting sleep and they said “no, we dont have to tell you” As far as I am aware - Excessive, undisclosed late-night noise from a hotel-hosted event is viewed as a failure to provide a fit service. The music is so loud my room is actually thumping. If you want to get some sleep and rest, then please stay somewhere else.
Location staff so friendly
Couldn’t fault it really
The location was perfect for us. Staff were friendly and helpful
Nothing
Rooms were tired and could do with modernising
Great location; Very friendly staff; Excellent facilities
Some elements of the property were a little tired … but clean
Very clean and spacious absolutely ideal for what I needed
Nothing springs to mind
From the time we arrived to leaving - everyone was soo friendly and informative about the hotel facilities and meal times etc. They accommodated our early breakfast request due to early start for The Open. Loads of free parking availability, room was very quiet considering we were facing the main road outside. All the staff were brilliant! Cheers for a wonderful weekend.
Avoid this hotel at all costs we had a terrible experience. We stayed here in may 2026 and would most certainly never return. I got electrocuted by an exposed light fixture! Allows the hotel the opportunity to fix the matter with me and still no response from said general manager. We had our 2 year old son staying with us Had he of touched the exposed fixture it’s frightening to think what could have happened. We stayed in the king suite bear in mind the “nicest” room in the hotel and it was completely filthy and to rub salt in the wound we arrived home to a lovely parking fine despite putting our registration and inputting the number of days in to the touchpad! Just such an awful experience and an awful hotel. My concerns have been forwarded to mecure group “Accor”
everything ! was superb value for what we needed
nothing
Booking in process ok reception team could give more information on breakfast time and leisure facilities. Suite was lovely . Very clean only thing would have been nice to open window for fresh air. Breakfast was included in our booking however first morning lady taking room number asked if we were paying for breakfast when told her it was already paid for she said it’s not marked down as included so I will check leaving us feeling like criminals. Breakfast itself was ok . Second morning there was nothing hot left at 9am surely foh staff should be checking. Overall it was a ok stay .
Gode senger
Ikke helt fornøyd med renhold. Slitent hotell, særlig badebasseng.
Staff were very good and welcoming, the room was lovely and clean
The car park is a nightmare, I could only park my car in 50% of the parking bays due to tree bases and high kerbs. How designed it?!??
Breakfast is ok
The wardrobe can be improved
I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. The staff at the reception were nice & polite & the staff at breakfast were nice & very welcoming.
Area around the hotel is very run down.
Didn't use any on site facilities but the room was spotless
The room was spacious and comfortable, if a little dated.
Months before my arrival I emailed the Mercure to see if early check-in was available as I was attending a super league match at the nearby Brewdog stadium, and was told nothing could be guaranteed but that it may be possible on the day. There was no mention of any additional fee. When I arrived at 2.15pm (check-in is 3pm) I was told the room was ready but that I could not access it unless I paid an additional 10 pounds as an early arrival which I found to be very poor service and not something I had experienced before. It should also be noted, that while the hotel advertises free parking there is a requirement to complete your details on a "parking platform" within the hotel. I'm told there are signs advising of this around the hotel (which I apparently missed in my haste to check-in) but it is not covered in any of their correspondence and I was not advised by reception, although I was asked to fill out a form with my car registration details. This resulted in a parking fine, which has now been rectified by the hotel, but again, is a lack of attention to service.
Stayed in a privilege room. Great room with everything could want including air con and comfortable large bed. Mini fridge with soft drinks and water. Spotlessly clean. Iron and ironing board and hairdryer all in room All staff professional but very friendly Lovely air conditioned bar Reasonable breakfast- good choice
Nothing
air conditioning room
Prefer walk in shower
Very helpful. Good service
Everything is perfect
There's nothing i can say I disliked
The hotel is in a nice location.
The customer service is zero. Before my arrival, I contacted the hotel by phone and message to explain that both my daughter and I have a skin condition, and therefore we require a clean room with properly maintained bed sheets. I was assured that housekeeping had prepared the room accordingly. However, upon entering the room, I immediately noticed dust particles on the carpet near the fridge and mirror. I contacted reception, and someone came to clean it. Later that evening, at around 21:00, when we went to bed, we discovered that the bedsheet and duvet had a very unpleasant smell. I also found housekeeping items left underneath the bed, and the table lamp was not working. I called reception, and the staff member who visited the room acknowledged the smell and the items left behind. She said she would send fresh bedsheets, but no one came that night. As a result, we were forced to sleep on the same bedsheets, which was extremely uncomfortable and unacceptable given our health condition. At 4:00am, I spoke to the night team, who informed me that they had not been told about the issue. In the morning, the reception team stated that they would change the bedsheets when they had time after preparing rooms for new check-ins, which is not an appropriate response. This situation raises serious health and safety concerns and reflects a lack of professionalism. It has caused significant discomfort and distress to me and my family, and we were unable to sleep properly due to the conditions.Next morning we went for breakfast and found contamination of food.
Easy to find
Clean and great parking
How u do the car parking
Very comfortable Great size of room. Clean Staff very friendly and pleasant
Had a little noise on one night from an ajoining room - nott too loud, but just enough to disturb me a couple of times
Staff very helpful and overall cleanliness was fantastic with great facilities
NA
The staff at the breakfast were friendly attentive and helpful
I am extremely disappointed with my recent stay. To begin with, a 3pm check‑in time is unreasonable, yet the facility still has the audacity to charge guests for late check‑out. The bed and pillows were very uncomfortable, making it difficult to get proper rest. Most concerning, the cleaning staff entered my room without knocking while I was still getting dressed, despite the fact that I was preparing to leave well before the 12 noon check‑out time. This is a serious breach of privacy and completely unacceptable.
The hotel was i expected, nice comfortable and yet professional
Nothing to mention
Great location
Air conditioning set to bare minimum which didn’t cool the room enough. We couldn’t override and increase.
Good location
Staff
Nothing
Was close to training centre I was going too
Was piss in toilet when I arrived
Arrived at hotel after an almost 6 hour solo drive to find absolute chaos everywhere. It took several minutes to even enter the carpark from the linkway as there were so many vehicles and people everywhere. After driving round the carpark several times in a queue of traffic and milling people I finally managed to park. I then realised the hotel was hosting a PROM event which explained all the crowds. I managed to push my way through although the reception wasn't much better with big balloons and banners everywhere. I told the receptionist I had just had a lot of trouble getting into the carpark and then into the hotel through the crowds and she informed me I had arrived at prom drop off time. She took my details and I paid for my room which was pre-booked. I was then asked to give my car registration number in and I entered it on the form she gave me. I was then asked to pay a £50 deposit which would be held incase I charged anything to my room. I hadn't been informed of this prior to arrival so this was about of a shock but I agreed and paid it. I then said to the receptionist I had to go out shortly and was worried about finding a parking spot on my return given how busy it was. So she said I'd turned up at the busiest time and it should be ok when I came back. I went out for an hour and came back and went to my room and then later out for food with my dad. There was a lot of noise from the prom party and lots of people in and out although thankfully I couldn't hear anything from my room. I was aware the hotel had a pool which I would have liked to have used but there was no information on this either in the room or online and I didn't want to go down to the reception which was busy and noisy with the prom party so that was disappointing. I checked out in the morning by handing my room card over and thought nothing more of it. Now just over a week later I have received a £100 parking fine for parking in the hotel carpark overnight. I'm absolutely furious as I have never had a fine before. I called the hotel and was told that I should have scanned the code on arrival. I explained I arrived in the middle of prom drop off and how busy it was and was told there was nothing they could do and I need to appeal the fine using my booking details. She was implying it was my fault as I should have seen all the signs especially the one in the lobby. I didn't as it was so chaotic and crowded there and all I was told was to write my registration down which I did. I have stayed at many a hotel before and have never encountered this before. £100 parking fine for parking overnight at the hotel?!
Good location for what we needed
Room wasn’t very clean, was given a disabled access room when we didn’t need one so being a tall couple the restricted height of the sink and other part of the room wasn’t ideal or comfortable. The woman on the front desk was not welcoming on check in and couldn’t find our booking for a long time. There was a large wedding taking place and that seemed to just take over the place, the staff and the lobby, lifts, corridors. There were spillages of drinks in the lift and corridors. The room was extremely dusty in places and not very well stocked (only 1 English breakfast tea). Did mention a few issues to the staff but they said they were busy with the wedding and would try to help when they could… no one contacted us or resolved anything. On checking out no one thanked us or even acknowledged we had been there - I just placed the key card in the box, the woman on reception didn’t even look at me- too busy chatting with another member of staff. Not would I would expect from this type of hotel and certainly not worth the money paid.
Friendly staff. Good to have access to a pool and spa, decent sized room with a very large comfy bed. Clean and tidy throughout
Poor pedestrian access to central St Helens, the only route is via a narrow pavement on a very busy road. It looks like direct access has been recently blocked off. The pool area was generally tidy, but a little careworn
Superb facilities, free car parking and the staff were helpful and friendly. Loved the pool especially as it was mid heatwave when I stayed
The aircon was ice cold in the room and was a welcome relief from the heatwave Room was very large, had a fridge and was immaculately clean. It was also very quiet, no noise from the road or coridoors.
The only thing letting it down was the bathroom, it definitely needed an upgrade.
Good hotel staff was helpful
I have to admit the pillows in the bed ware so uncomfortable flat even with 2 did not make any difference Need proper pillows!
The towels were dirty and had brown spots on them. The shower flooded when used as the bath tap didn’t turn off when you switched it to shower mode. The tub was very high and hard/dangerous to step in and out of.
Cleanliness
It’s location
Clean and comfortable. Room was quiet. Breakfast is extra but worth the money.
There were issues with the elevator throughout our stay. We had to change room after checking in as our room safe was broken but the staff were very helpful and accommodating in moving us.
Great location. Comfortable room with good air con. Comfy bed. Great shower. Friendly staff.
It was great, the staff were helpful and kind. Following an operation I was really impressed when the cleaner in the reception showed concern. Thanks
I had an omelette which was great but the rest of the hot food was warm not hot. Staff were great at restocking immediately, but no hot facilities were seen to keep food hot.
Close to town
Price was higher for the Saturday, then I normally pay
Great location, clean with good facilities
AC could have been better
Clean food was good
Some staff on reception not overly helpful or friendly. Lifts out of order which wasn’t good for my disabled husband. No apologies offered due to this. No information about the hotel unless you scanned a code which wasn’t linked to the hotel. Told staff about this not overly concerned. When we did get on was just the hotel info not on the internet not information I normally get in the hotels I stay. Usually have guest information in a book or on the tv which I find very useful. A signed card from hotel leaders is no use to anyone
Hotel was spotless , staff were absolutely lovely and nothing was a bother
Nothing everything was good
Pool was shut from 3.45pm for me this is unacceptable for a hotel. When I arrived at 9pm after travelling 4.5 hours I was told no hot food and offered a cold sandwich and I had to go out to get hot food which was really poor.
Was a very pleasant stay in the mercure room was very spacious and was clean and comfortable
None
Staff very friendly welcome Room great size and clean
King size bed is 2 bed put together, so a split in the middle. So no best comfort

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
6.5/10Mixed reports: several guests described rooms, bathrooms, pool and jacuzzi as clean, but there are serious negative reports (one report of a filthy suite and an exposed light fixture causing electrocution risk) that pull this rating down.
Service
9.2/10Mixed but often positive: multiple guests praised friendly, professional and helpful staff (quick room remediation, breakfast staff singled out by name), though there are repeated complaints about rude/abrupt receptionists and poor handling of late-night noise. Overall responsiveness in key situations justifies a strong score despite isolated front-desk issues.
Location
9.5/10Consistently positive: many guests called the location 'perfect' or 'good for our needs' and frequently cited convenience for events and local needs.
Room Quality
8/10Mixed: beds described as very comfy and some rooms praised, but several comments note rooms are tired/dated; one severe cleanliness/safety incident also impacts perception of room quality.
Amenities
7.8/10Mixed amenities: pool and jacuzzi noted as clean but busy; spa and bar areas received complaints; overall facilities are present but experiences vary.
Value for Money
8.5/10Generally positive: multiple guests explicitly stated good/excellent value and that the hotel met their needs, though some service/amenity issues temper this slightly.
Food and Beverage
7.3/10Mixed breakfast experiences: some found breakfast ok and praised breakfast staff, while others reported buffet format caused accessibility and value issues (mobility difficulties, inability to get hot drinks and hot food simultaneously).
Overall Experience
8.8/10Overall sentiment leans positive for many stays (friendly staff, good location, comfortable beds), but there are notable negative outliers (noise from events, front-desk rudeness, serious safety/cleanliness incident) affecting some guests' stays.
