Very pleasant hotel good air conditioner excellent staff very good location with good transport links
The staff are so friendly and helpful. Area is so conveniently located....
The overall dining experience was very unpleasant. I found a hair in my food, which was incredibly off-putting and unacceptable. The pie had a sour, almost spoiled taste that made it inedible. While the chicken was the only part of the meal that was somewhat decent, it wasn’t enough to make up for the rest of the issues. I expected much better quality.
Telephoned to book a table but was told fully booked. Arrived and place half empty. Why couldn't we stay for an hour only! Got a takeaway, Souse was way TOO SALTY again. Black pudding was lovely though and staff friendly. Please cut down on the unnecessary salt. Will go back in 2 weeks to see if it's still salty. If so I'll be done with the souse there!
Spacious, comfortable and peaceful
Pleasant and friendly staff good location easy links to transport
Lots of amenities, staff was all friendly and professional. I cannot fault my stay.
Hotel is a well kept, decent hotel and the beach is right across the road. There is a restaurant on site but there is a kitchenette in the room. Would have been nice to have instant coffee in the room.
Good location and excellent staff especially the housekeeping services. We stayed for 2 months (Feb and March 2023) and were treated royally by Michelle and her staff. Many staff went out of their way to make our stay pleasurable. Only down side is restaurant service is very slow but that is a thing in Barbados as no one seems to be in a hurray even to serve you, plus they say they they have a gym/workout room but its open to the salt air and nothing works at all which is a shame and the most disappointing aspect of our stay. Other than that we had a positive experience.
I came to the Golden sands for my husbands birthday weekend and our stay there was superb from start to finish. The staff were very accommodating esp Mechelle who helped me coordinate with decorators to set up the room for my husbands birthday surprise as well as throwing in a complimentary birthday breakfast and bottle of wine in there. The food at the restaurant attached to the hotel was also spectacular. We very much enjoyed the breadfruit coocoo with king fish as well as pudding and souse. The rooms were clean and equipt with all we needed and the location was awesome situated right across from beach and a short walk to the oistins fish fry. I highly recommend the Golden Sands hotel
We have booked Golden Sands Hotel just two days before travelling to Barbados as it was last minute trip and to be honest we were a bit worried as we have seen terrible reviews about this hotel just before we got there but decided to give it a go. We usually stay in 5* hotels in Europe so we have had very low expectations , all we needed was to have a clean room at this point- we arrived to the hotel and staff were very nice and I did mention that we are a bit worry about our room as we seen last minute reviews the lady at reception told as she will do her best to give us good room and she kept her promise! We have had side sea view and it was just amazing ! The room itself was a bit old fashioned and basic but plenty of space but super clean! We have had room clean bedsheets changed on regular basis and there was a lot of polite staff walking around so if you needed anything you could just ask! The pool was clean and just perfect for small family , never overcrowded. The only advise is to revamp restaurant it does look dated and empty , we have had breakfast in there and it was delicious just needed to be more looked after. To be honest hotel exceeded our expectations, would definitely recommend, thank you Golden Sands.
My mom was going to stay for a week, due to my grandpa passing away (mom's dad) a day before the trip, I was urging on changing the dates, the hotels team could not get the change because the hotel never responded. That has never ever happen before, and nobody stayed and they charged me the entire week.
As previous reviews have stated, the Hotel is tired and in need of an update. The staff were friendly and the room cleaned with fresh towels daily. The location for the beach perfect. The food in the restaurant was very good however there was no atmosphere and not many customers probably due to the attitude of the waiting staff. We would stay here again.
The location good transport links easy access to the beach
The hotel was clean and staff friendly, the restaurant food and service was quite good. Great location between Oistins and Dover, cute beach across the street.
The Dirtiest, place I have Ever stayed in, noisy disgusting, bugs and cockroaches in the rooms and lizards, smell of lavender everywhere to hide the dirty areas, so bad, unironic sheets, maids who ask for tips and asked if I was rich! my first visit and my last, I had to change rooms on my arrival due to bugs and dirty windows , when slide doors open, they screeched with the dirt on the track, dirty floors and towels and washing hand towels a joke so threadbare, kitchen with no washing liquid, and NO hot water from shower to sink to wash basin, absolutely the worst hotel and service 3 days before I got a toaster, Avoid Avoid. See photos already there of the small bath towel, etc.
great place and staff location loved it
I like this property because it’s very safe and quiet and the staff are very friendly. Also the beach around is very nice
Some things need renovation like sticky doors, etc., but all minor and not an issue.
Golden Sands, “ More Like a Nightmare! If I could give this place zero stars, I would. This is hands down the filthiest hotel I’ve ever stepped foot in. Bugs in the bed. Cockroaches on the floor. Lizards in the room. I had to change rooms immediately because the bed linen was crawling with insects. The patio window was so filthy you could barely see out - they only cleaned the part not covered by the curtain! The whole place looked like it hadn’t been updated since the 1960’s, stippled walls, ancient furniture, and a kitchen so poorly equipped that even washing detergent was nowhere to be found. No hot water in the shower, kitchen, or hand basin. Towels? More like disgusting rags. Sheets? Crumpled and refused to be ironed. The staff were a joke. One housemaid, Ester, blatantly asked me, “What you going to give me? Are you rich?” and lingered around waiting for a tip. Meanwhile, Brenda at reception was the only one with an ounce of decency, apologizing as I waited two days for a toaster. The dirt was unreal. My patio door was so clogged with grime that I had to use cooking spray to open it and when it finally moved, it screeched against the filth. Walking barefoot? Forget it. My feet turned black instantly. To top it all off, the place reeked of an overpowering lavender stench, clearly trying (and failing) to cover up the filth. I left covered in bug bites and couldn’t escape fast enough. This wasn’t just a bad hotel, it was an absolute disgrace. Grottie Sands! Avoid at all costs!
It's a home away from home
The property is in a great location and we had views to the sea and the swimming pool. But the property looks a bit dated and neglected
Very comfortable bed and huge room with sea view. Efficient air con Good breakfast. Property in need of tlc but location opposite lovely beach very good. And staff helpful and nice
I came to this place for a two-week holiday with my son, who’s 11 just before Christmas. We arrived late but got a warm welcome at the reception and were shown to our room that was exceptionally large and very clean. After a long journey we were extremely tired and hungry and went to the restaurant and were told that the menu would be limited at that hour. But both the chicken and shrimp pastas were delicious! Happy to get such good food at a late hour! Our luggage got lost on the way, but we got tons of help from people around us. We got to borrow a charger for our mobiles from the reception and Brenda helped us trying to get in contact with the airline. What hit me the most was how helpful everyone at the hotel was. Not only during the hunt for our luggage but during our entire stay. The room was spacious and very clean. We had a nice cooking corner with all the kitchenware we needed. Because the portions from the restaurant were huge we could easily put the leftovers in the spacios fridge and warm up them up for lunch in the microwave the following day. The room had a nice balcony with both pool and sea views. It was nice to enjoy breakfast with a good book on the sunny balcony and then move forwards to the beach which is located just steps from the hotel entrance. The hotel provided us with clean beach towels every day, no hassle with towel cards etc. The beach outside the hotel was fabulous. It was extremely quiet so we got the entire beach to ourselves during the most hectic travel season! Now what are the odds for that!? Water is clear and swimming is good. There are some rocks on the bottom at some points though so if the sea is rough and the waves get high the water gets blurred and you can’t see the rocks I’d suggest you wear swimming shoes, as I did. Problem solved. The pool at the hotel was well maintained as the rest of the area. There are some sun loungers you can use free of charge, of course. But it was always very quiet there so no trouble getting your seat under the sun. Or in shadow, if you prefer that. The area is somewhat remote, which we loved. It was quiet (apart from the rooster at 3.30 a.m. so bring earplugs if you’re a light sleeper) and perfect for a relaxing time. The only backside of it would be that there are no other restaurants nearby. But looking from the bright side, the restaurant at the hotel has excellent food! We were more than happy with the food we ate there. The fish market in Oistins is about 15 minutes walk from the hotel. Fresh food served at a reasonable price. Try the grilled mahi mahi at De Red Snapper and I promise you’ll come back for more! The supermarket (Massey) is about 10 minutes walk from the hotel. That’s also where the nearest ATM is located. And if you want to go to Bridgetown or some other beaches nearby the minivans run non-stop outside the hotel. The fee for the minivans is 3,50 BBD each way, make sure to have the exact amount as no change is given. We used a local taxi driver for our trips to Harrison’s cave and airport and he was actually the person who recovered our missing luggage with his connections. Such a kind person and a perfect driver who’s corteous and friendly. If you need a really good and reliable taxi driver, please do contact Adrian at +1(246)238-0589. Oh yes, my son loved the free WiFi that worked flawlessly during our entire stay. And I loved the AC that did miracles in our room. And yes nr 2, not a single bug in sight during our stay. Just the usual mosquitos so bring the repellent! I wish to return to Golden Sands!
The hotel is all that you need for a beach vacation. The hotel restaurant serves wonderful meals and hosts a local gathering every Saturday. It is located directly across from Welches beach and within walking distance to Oistin's Fish Fry.
I stayed in a room at the front of the property and mornings were peaceful on the porch watching the ocean across the street and all the locals who saw me spoke and had conversations with me like I wasn't a stranger. I loved the pudding and souse on Saturday from the restaurant.
NA
.
Some of the staff were rude especially at reception, cleaning staff was pleasant and helpful, groundsman very meticulous with his cleaning, i have mixed feeling about returning
Recommendable place, quiet with excellent staff and restaurant. I appreciated
Walking distance to local clubs and eateries.
Wonderful, friendly staff, very accommodating. This was my second visit. Would highly recommend. We were a family of 5, had 2 inter-connecting rooms. Rooms were thoroughly cleaned daily. Would also recommend the restaurant, well seasoned and tasty food. Will be back next year.
Everything was fantastic.
Everything is as great.
Hassle free
I loved how clean and conveniently located it was to everything
Easy access to everything
Area around pool was super slippery and you had to go by the pool to come in and out of the hotel.
Place has everything you need Arrived late and had full moon shining on our balcony and could see and hear waves All staff and Brenda were so pleasant
Probably won’t be staying there again to many step and the weather was very Hot . my patio was between nothing but tress and shrubs .. which my granddaughter keep trying to grab a branch each time the wind blows the trees to the patio .. Shot out to Housekeeping staff.
Room was clean. Staff was helpful and friendly.
Opposite a nice small beach. Staff are very kind and accommodating.
The Receptionist (Brenda) was extremely helpful, professional and pleasant/courteous to us. The hotel is very quiet and just a very shot walk across form the sea/beach. The sound of the sea waves was very soothing and relaxing. The room service was satisfactory, and the room(s) were clean. We experienced some challenges with the stove on the 1st to 2nd day of our stay, but this got resolved. The location of the hotel is ideal for access to public transportation and taxi services, and a short distance from a supermarket and other stores. The hotel was NOT crowded. The main challenge experienced was getting Vegetarian meals. It is challenging to find vegetarian restaurants in Oistins and Barbados. I would definitely stay at Golden Sands Hotel again. Overall: an enjoyable 7 night stay at Golden Sands! We highly recommend this hotel to those who want a quiet, clean, and uncrowded place to stay while you are in Barbados. (ML)
Nice place. Beach is directly opposite, just across the road. Staff are kind. Locals come and hang out and the restaurant on Saturdays and it's a wonderful atmosphere.
Beach near by
Exceptionally friendly receptionist. Property a little noisy at times. Only tried breakfast on our first day, it wasn't very appetizing or fresh. Did not go for any further meals.
Very convenient for public transport and supermarket shopping. There is a beach across the road. The accommodation is well equipped for self catering. Rooms are throughly cleaned every day. Brenda the receptionist is brilliant. The staff in the restaurant were polite and helpful. Had a wonderful stay.
We spent 2+ weeks at the Golden Sands. All the staff were lovely. Brenda was amazing, helping us with everything we needed. The housekeepers came to our room every day. The hotel is comfortable and clean, with kitchenettes in the rooms, a nice pool and beautiful views from the balconies. There is a small beach across the street and we saw turtles as we swam daily. The hotel has a restaurant, serving locals and hotel guests, and their Saturday afternoon karaoke party is a must do.
Great stay for a small hotel, convenient to the local buses, restaurants and Oistins Friday night fish fry, I will recommend.
Such a charming little hotel with wonderful, friendly, fun and helpful staff (Brenda, Nicole, Mechelle and Andrea to name but a few). Clean, spacious rooms with good simple cooking facilities if you want to self cater. Maid service in rooms every day. Amazing location 10 min walk from Oistins and opposite a beautiful cove beach with warm, turquoise water. Fantastic little swimming pool which was never crowded. We loved our time at Golden Sands and would be lucky to return one day! Thank you all ❤️
It was a good choice for a short term stay
Rooms are big. Staff is ok. Location not the best for Barbados. So much better other locations. Would not stay again.
Whilst the property is quite tired in parts and in need of a facelift, the staff are lovely and helpful with a real feel of ‘home’ . everything worked fine but was quite dated for example the shower area and the noisy fridge freezer Overall it was lovely and cosy to come home to each day/night and we slept fine Our room was in a great location overlooking the sea and the pool and was great for walking to Oistins or St Lawrence Had a fabulous stay !
Helpfull.staff.
I liked everything about the hotel the cleanliness, hospitality, and the location.

Alt OK
We had a lovely time at golden sands . The property does need updating the decorator was painting outside whilst we have been here. Everyday people were cleaning or painting . I cant fault how lovely everyone is . We know that inside the rooms needs a refurb but nothing was dirty it all worked and we were able to be very comfortable .. our room overlooked pool area the noise wasnt too bad from main road as we used pool side bedroom in main appt lounge area . We also ate in restaurant lovely food both during some breakfasts and dinner . The pool area was lovely and very quiet . The buses stop outside so you can either get them to other resorts or bridgetown or 10 minute walk to oistins fish fry .
The receptionist sent me to room 201. Its the first time at that hotel and i had no knowledge that room 201 is close to the main road, as a result, i had absolutely no sleep. It was so noisy. I was looking forward to a good night's rest after my flight. I think that the receptionist should have asked me if i was ok with a room close to the road noting the noise. I was really upset. However the room itself was beautiful. Lots of space and it was clean. I will stay there again, but i must get a room that is not close to the road.
Found old food in the fridge. One burner on the stove was not working. The bathroom door handle/lock was broken and a visitor got locked in the bathroom
Nice location and very convenient to take bus to downtown area. Staff are professional and room for value.
Definitely in need of an upgrade in order to stay relevant, does not help the reputation of Hotels.com
The facility was a litter tired.
Great service, excellent location, clean and well priced.
Staff was very accommodating
For our first time in Barbados we were looking for a reasonably priced hotel, with kitchenette facilities and not far from a beach. We weren’t let down by Golden Sands. While you’ll immediately notice that the decor is dated and do with a facelift, we noticed that everything worked and the room was comfortable and clean. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant produced delicious food that had us back for more.
Unfortunately the two abandoned vacant properties on either side take away from the hotel itself.
The hotel was dark, drab and very tired. Best described as a travelodge on the M1 with a pool! On the plus side, the bed was great and the a/c worked.
When we arrived at night, we were met by a grumpy, unfriendly night manager who didn't even talk to us. He merely pointed at things to sign or which direction to go. While my wife and I were struggling up stairs with two bags each, he just stood and watched. He didn't even make a move to help my wife with either of her bags. The room had a sliding glass door to the rear, which had a deformed latch that we were unable to lock so the door was open all night. The bed had one thin top sheet and no blankets. The kitchen shelf had the remnants of some sort of animal droppings. The tile and baseboard in the bathroom were dirty and in dire need of cleaning. We had no hot water unless we asked the front office staff to turn it on. Then it went off again so soon, we could only get one shower at a time. The second morning, we again had no hot water so I heated up a kettle of water and poured it in the sink just so I could shave. We had drinks and a meal in the restaurant, which had terrible service. We were virtually ignored for about a half hour before a waitress came over and took our drinks order. After waiting another 30 to 40 minutes for the drinks, another patron took pity on us and talked to a waitress about our long wait. It was only then, after an hour and 15 minutes that our drinks finally arrived. This friendly local felt so bad for us he even bought us another drink later, after we had eaten our long awaited meal. I would not recommend this hotel.
The property didn’t have a elevator I was confused when I checked in as a gentleman suddenly showed up to take me to my room which we had to walk up to flights of stairs and around the back of the hotel which I didn’t like. The receptionist just told me he would take me to my room. I was very uncomfortable. People were outback talking loud
Clean spacious room, wonderful people.
The property is smaller than many of the hotels so quieter. The staff are lovely and the food is excellent and reasonable. I have stayed here three times.
it was easy to get to the room . A nice place for a quick turn around. Just needs a thicker bed sheets cause the AC gets the room really cold
I have just completed a 5 night stay at the Golden Sands Hotel. Check in went good. Went up to the room and looked nice. Old but nice. I went to make coffee and there was no amenities in the kitchen. Coffee maker yes, coffee no. We to take shower, soap yes, shampoo no! Took shower and drain not draining or very slow. In the morning went down to front desk and asked about my concerns. Shampoo - front desk clerk smiled and said we usually put shampoo in room, but they must have forgot. Coffee and other amenities - no they do not provide. They never fixed the drain. At 8:30 in the evening I called to ask where I can but Soda or water. Either everything was closed or they do not have that service. Thursday morning I was sitting in the lobby waiting for my ride. I listened to the front desk clerk talk to her friend on speaker phone. This conversation lasted at least 20 minutes. My ride came and I left. She was still speaking on the phone. I am not paying yo stay here, someone else us. If I was I would check out and find another hotel. Their web site does not really show the hotel. I will never study here again no matter who is paying. Extremely disappointed
Excellent service. Food was delicious. Staff pleasant and professional. Room well fitted with amenities needed. Refrigerator and stove in case you wanted to do your own stuff. Near supermarket. Excellent.
I came here for one night, I emailed the receptionist and ask them to confirm receipt of the email and got no response. I went down the front desk and the receptionist greeted me like I was bothering her. I told her about the email I sent and before I could finish, the phone rang. All she did was put up her finger and answer the phone. After I told her, again, what I came there for she told me, yes she got it (again, like I was bothering her). I told her that I asked for confirmation of receipt of the email and she looked at me I was really getting on her nerves. I am a paying customer! You ought to treat everyone with respect. On another note, some of the tiles in the room were loose, the water in the sinks in both the kitchenette and bathroom were taking long to drain; the sink in the bathroom was leaking and the toilet was not flushing properly. Lastly, the window in the bathroom was not closed properly (I also tried to close it but it wouldnt budge) so bugs came in at night and I had to keep the bathroom door closed. There is one more issue regarding the restaurant but I will leave that out. I would not come here again even if I won a free stay. It is definitely NOT worth the money.
It has an old fashioned charm. Although I was in quarantine and couldn't leave its literally across the road from the beach.
Striking distance from Miami Beach, public transportation, and places to eat. Good bang for your buck.
My trip was pleasant, the staff were very helpful and courteous.
Nice relaxing place to stay
We choose the Golden Sands Hotel to spend our quarantine which lasted five days. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable with a lovely balcony with the view of the pool and beautiful garden where we spotted monkeys and cute birds. Having the vast space, tv, kitchen and balcony ensured we could enjoy our time even if we were "stuck inside". The restaurant delivers food to your room which was really tasty, we also managed to dine in the restaurant when "freed" on Christmas day and, not only the food was delicious, but it was a lovely atmosphere with many local families celebrating here. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, house keeping provided all we needed daily and the caretaker was so nice to speak too from the balcony! Most importantly Mechelle the manager took very good care of us, buying some essentials we needed from supermarket and pharmacy, and helping us chase test results which were delayed. Once we got the test results we could also use the pool which was great and there's a beautiful beach right opposite. Oistins fish fry is walking distance as well as the beautiful Miami beach. You can also reach other areas of the island taking the local busses that stop right opposite the hotel.
I had a wonderful stay, will extend another day. My room was spacious with a great view and staff was wonderful
It’s a good hotel, next to the beach. It’s right on the main road
Most Barbadians associate Golden sands for its lively Rum and Souse and Karaoke on Saturdays. As for me I usually would order pudding and souse and go collect it. However given a birthday gift as a staycation although it would not have been top of mind, I was very happy at the choice. We had the ocean view on second floor, the studio room was very spacious, tastefully decorated and very clean. The staff I interacted with were helpful and a pleasure to communicate with. It was a great bajan experience with real soul food at very good prices!! I highly recommend those coming to Barbados for "We Gathering" in october (christ chuch month) should consider booking this hotel , . Totally ideal for family planned events
This is a terrible hotel and Hotels.com should be ashamed for marketing this hotel on their website! Stay far away from this place!
My husband and i stayed for 10 nights and absolutely loved it. Very peaceful and quiet. Rooms are huge. Clean towels every day and bedding changed loads of times. The staff are absolutely brilliant, very polite and helpful, especially Mellissa, Andrew and Brenda. The beach is across the road and the local fish market/fry are 10 minute walk. We fished from the jetty at the fish market and had a great time catching fish. We had the pool to ourselves most days which was perfect for us.
Bedbugs became an issue for my wife. The room was fine. The water was hot. The door keys became an issue. The staff was friendly and nice. It was close to the beach. It was close to the nice amenities. The mattresses were not very comfortable. The breakfast was fine. The coffee should be freshly brewed for coffee drinkers.
Convenient for an overnight layover. Staff courteous and a late meal available though menu limited.
Enjoyed our stay staff friendly and courteous. Would recommend to my family and friends
I didnt stay @ this hotel. The family made reservation for brunch,to celebrate a grad uate. The price was 55 bds.which was fine for a buffet on Sunday afternoon.Food taste great if you were able to get a fork in your mouth. You had to eat with one hand ,fight the flies off with the other.the locals didnt seem to have a problem use to it.Worst than going to a picnic @ the park.Couldnt enjoy our food just got tired of fight off flies left most of the food on plate. Will not go here again.
Hotel with all the basic amenities for a quiet relaxing vacation away from the crowds. Short distance from airport; Extremely friendly staff; Great restaurant and Spa on premises; Pool; Property across from a secluded beach access; Transportation just steps away; Minutes from Supermarket and Oistens Fish Market (dont miss the Friday night festivities!); Minutes from St Lawrence Gap (night life);
Excellent hotel. Clean spacious room everything I could possibly need for my stay on self catering holiday. Small family run hotel over looking beach. Lovely and quiet had the pool to myself for last couple of days. Pleasure that it is not over run with tourists. Mainly locals stay here. Will definitely be returning.
Very friendly and helpful staff. No coffe in room. Coffee maker and kitchenette but no complimentary coffee or tea.
Just ok
Golden sands never disappoints its a great place to go n have fun on Saturdays food n drinks are amazing n the staff adds that extra bonus if u like a good karaoke well this is the place to be😍 recommend it anytime to anyone
We stayed for 4 nights in March. Studio room was very spacious and clean. View of the sea from the balcony. Bathroom needed an update, but it was fine for the time we were there. No one in the pool, it was like we had our own private pool. The beach is directly across the road so no problem with access. The restaurant in the back served good food for a reasonable price. Saturday is the day the locals partake in karaoke at the restaurant. There were some very talented singers and it was a very entertaining evening.
Room was very spacious and had a view of the sea. Bathroom requires updating. Water pressure in the shower and toilet low. Hot water sometimes not available.
We enjoyed three nights in golden sands. Staff were very friendly and helpful letting us check in early and out late for no extra charge and lending us beach towels the last day. The room was very clean and serviced daily. I asked for a room on top floor away from road as other reviews suggested this and glad I did-we had great room, number 306 and had fab view of sea. No lift though so if steps are a struggle don’t go to top floor. The room itself was huge. And they put extra bed in for my daughter which was great. The hotel is in desperate need of updating but it’s clean, quiet and has a bus stop and beach right outside. The road was a little noisy on the balcony but not once you shut door at night you could not hear a thing. The fountain by the pool needed a clear out. The pool was great and my daughter loved it! Happy hour was good too 🤪 would def stay here again for good price. 👍
