Old and tired.
Place was scruffed up. Just like a related motel
I enjoyed the history of the hotel
The hotel was very nice overall. I would go back for the location and that traditional California feel. Maybe a little overpriced for the age and condition of the property, but that is LA. It would be hard to find a better location / property / service / parking ($45 USD at time of writing this). Being across from the Grove is a real bonus. The reception staff are lovely, they gave me a room upgrade just because and I didn't ask. Rooms have a fridge as well. The onsite restaurant and bar also a bonus as it's not that hotel vibe, more a place you would go to for the evening.
Price if you don't use booking.com as it's pretty expensive. But you can find sales / room discounts.
location excellent.restaurant very good, we come every year and we feel it like family, the staff very professional and kind.
It could be cheaper for what it offers, the pillows could be more comfy.
This hotel is a hidden gem! It is conveniently located across from the grove and is a quick ride to many LA attractions. The hotel is clean and trendy. The bartenders were exceptional. We would only stay at this hotel in LA.
Short Stories Hotel is located in close proximity to: The Grove, Farmer’s Market (including Dupar’s), Academy Museum and Peterson Car Museum, plus tons of restaurants. The staff of Short Stories is Exceptional! They went above and beyond to make sure our stay was wonderful! The rooms are comfortable with tables and chairs right outside our room. I left clothes and the front desk staff even sent them to me! An espresso machine was provided per my request and the bar staff each day provided a little milk (small cost) for my cappuccino. This is our second time and we will be back for our third time.
The location is great! It's right opposite the Farmer's market and the Grove.
The female receptionists in the morning aren't very welcoming - 'mind your business' type - they were constantly browsing on their cellphones infront the customers. Having said that, the male receptionist at night was very welcoming. They charge 100 usd desposit for each night, so for 4 nights we had to pay 400 usd deposit, which is unheard of even in the big chains of hotels. The rooms are tiny. After our stay here, we moved to another hotel nearby, which was a better value.
Bravo !
The hotel is darling. It is located across the street from the Grove and has a beautiful courtyard for morning coffee.
Unfortunately, we discovered a large cockroach in our room. I understand these things can happen, and we killed it. However, when we saw another one in the morning, in another location, it was VERY upsetting. This was not a cheap hotel, and having spent over $350 for the room and parking, I do not expect to encounter cockroaches!
It's walking distance to The Grove and Farmer's Market. Ideal if you just want to chill and not deal with LA traffic. Great shops and restaurants. An easy way to spend an afternoon and evening without feeling FOMO.
Perhaps the only concerns I have about this place are two things — security and coffee. Since the hotel is a modified motel-style facility, there is no security other than the card lock key to the room. Yes there is a safe in the room . That's it. There's no coffee set up in the room. It's available in the lobby at 6:45 am.
Great location close to the Grove. Nice foyer area and cool bar for a late night drink. Rooms were comfortable
Some of the Reception/ staff were not particularly interested in helping guests
Ok
Bathroom was way too small. Long time to get hot water at sink. Should have additional towels available. Limited counter space in bath for two people. Bare floors appeared cold. No luggage racks—had to ask for them and were told no one ever asked before. Were we meant to kneel on the floor to open our suitcases?
The location was excellent, across the road from the Grove and the Original Farmer’s Market and walking distance to a Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and Erehwon. Sidecar doughnuts is also within the same block. Most LA attractions are within 30-45mins drive away.
The door to our room could not close properly, possibly due to misalignment with the doorframe.
The location was pretty good. Near Du Pars, the best pancakes. Super clean and comfy.
They have the worst communication line, there’s imposible to they in touch of that. It took a hole week and several different calls to booking to have them reimburse some charges they made to my credit card without my permission and totally wrong ones. What an awful service at to end the experience. Both available mails they have hard bounce making it impossible to get in touch with them if you live outside the USA.
The location is excellent. It is just couple mins walk to the grove and the original farmer market. a short drive to the museums, sightseeing location. The room is specious and very clean. Staffs are friendly. The area feels quite safe.
none.
The room was very clean and the furnitures were modern and new.
The property doesn’t make you feel like you are staying at an hotel. It’s a motel actually.
Staff gentile ed accogliente. Struttura pulita, camera spaziosa.
Stanza grande e pulita.
Location is very good with safe area for parking Bed and decor were excellent! In fact the books and accessories were the best!
There is quite a bit of noise from the vehicle traffic on the Main Street.
The hotel was chosen due to convenient location for our purpose .
The room last year was in a better condition. The rooms were cleaned only at 4 -5 pm Charge for parking $45.00 per day, last year free.
Quiet and comfortable. Good location.
The courtyard, restaurant/bar and parking lot were rented out for a private party, closing them all for three days. Couldn’t even get access to the pool.
Classic LA vibe with a nice inner courtyard; super friendly staff.
Room usually was not serviced until very late in the afternoon (maybe they prioritized for new arrivals, but 4-5pm is too late). Also, AC/fan was very loud--a lower speed option would be nice.
Excellent location, right across from the Grove. Walkable to many nice restaurants and shops. The courtyard of the hotel is beautiful and was such a nice place to work from each morning. It was a bonus that there was free tea and coffee too! The room itself was also beautiful and they even accommodated my dog who was traveling with us, providing a dog bed, bowl, and treats. The bed was comfortable and I liked the little sitting area too. The stylistic touches also made it a fun space. Really loved everything about the room!
The only thing that I didn't like was paying for parking, although I learned that in LA this is pretty standard.
Amazing location
Room wasn’t serviced and felt a little run down
The outdoor space was wonderful and the happy hour offerings and prices. My room was quiet and comfortable. Big shower.
It was unclear what the parking situation and fees were. There were (in my opinion) too high- being $100 (including taxes) for 2 nights.
Its location and patio
My 19-year old daughter and I adored our stay. The location was amazing - proximity to The Grove and Farmer's Market, Petersen Automobile Museum, etc. was walking distance. Staff, room, all wonderful!
Easy checkin, clean room and great location for site seeing. Also many close nice places to eat. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Beds not comfortable they sagged and a good night's sleep was hard to get. All kinds of alcohol in bottles in the room. I have not seen this in rooms for many years. Parking fee of 45 per day additional charge. This seems excessive.
Muito confortável e a localização muito boa, pertinho do The Grove.
Location, staff, clean
Convenient location.
When we came in I found a dark smear on the toilet seat which I was anle to clean off myself. I told the front desk and they sent someone to clean it but then I had already cleaned it. Made me wonder how well they prepared the room. A clean toilet is an absolute must.
Very enjoyable boutique Hollywood hotel in a great walking neighborhood!
Yes, there is "parking on site," WHICH IS $45 BUCKS A NIGHT!!! Booking.com MUST CHANGE THAT POLICY and start forcing hotels to LIST THEIR PARKING FEES ON THE DESCRIPTION!!!!
Average motel that was poorly renovated. Walls and floors paper thin. Front desk girl is rude and racist.
Stylish, great location
Loved the spacious room, king bed, walk in rain shower, lovely public areas. The location - across from the Grove outdoor mall and the farmers market - can’t be beat. Very walkable to good cafes, restaurants, Hollywood improv. Easy to get around by bus too, which we did a few times. Pro tip: ask for a coffee maker to be delivered to your room!
Can’t think of anything not to like!
Vibe, location.
location was very good with plenty of parking spaces for the truck. but no EV charger, sad! the book collection in the room was superb! interesting to read!
the noise of traffic and noise from loud guests !
I stayed for 7 nights whilst visiting LA. A perfect location across from the Famers Market, The Grove and 3 minutes down the road to Trader Joes. The is valet parking onsite. My room was refurbished with a handy air conditioning unit. The unit was a little noisy in the night. The room is serviced daily and was very clean. My request for a kettle was met without issue. All staff I had contact with were friendly and helpful. I was disappointed that the onsite bar / restaurant was closed for 2 weeks. The elevator was handy and worked at all times. I did not access the onsite pool, but children staying in the hotel made use of it. My king sized bed was firm and comfortable, but watch your legs on the corners, I am now sporting a large bruise ! The shower is not the greatest water pressure and the floor was a little slippery at times. I felt this hotel is a good location for a stay in LA, despite being about 10 mins from Hollywood centre, I felt comfortable, safe and secure. There is local bus service stops 1 min from the door.
location, room and general hotel services are fine.
Location of room was right next to the lift so didnt have alot of privacy- had to keep the blinds drawn the entire stay.

The room was very clean, the bed was super comfortable as well as the whole room had a cozy vibe to it. It was well decorated and the room itself was also very spacious.
The day I checked in the room next to mine was playing loud music and kind of having a party. The hotel didn’t seem to bother but they changed my room.
The room was super cute and cozy
A bit older, could use a refresh
Loved the location! Staff was great and the room comfortable
We originally booked the room for two nights because we were arriving to LA via Australia arriving at 7am, so as to assure that the room would be available upon arrival. We called the hotel 36 hours prior to arrival to confirm all this. The front desk clerk assured us that we didn’t need to book the night before because there were plenty of rooms and that our room would be ready at 7am no problem, which was nice to hear to not have to pay for an extra night. Alas, we show up at 7am and the front desk clerk working at that time (not the person we spoke to 36 hours prior) tells us that there are not room available early and that our room will not be ready until 3pm. We protest at the thought of waiting (and sleeping) in their semi-open courtyard which was wet and damp from the rain the prior night. The front desk clerk informs us that all those extra rooms were booked and we were out of luck. We then leave the hotel to find alternate accommodations when in three hours they call us to tell us that a room has somehow been procured. Don’t get me wrong, we were grateful for them finding a room but we had already gone through the hassle of finding an alternate place to sleep. It is for the foregoing reason that I am very disappointed in the Short Stories Hotel. Eduardo & Christine A.

Lovely decor with a calm boutique feel. A stellar location with The Grove literally across the road and everything was very clean with comfortable beds and nice linens. Location was a perfect base for exploring LA and it felt safe at all times.
The Valet parking felt quite expensive, however it is LA and it was clear when we booked so I can't grizzle too much.
Second time we stayed as we enjoyed the location, staff, style and cleaning so much
location outdoor area good service
lamp over sofa which I keep hitting my head on timber base on bed with exposed corners grazed my shin
La tranquilidad, limpieza y ubicación

Location was right across the street from the Grove mall which was great.
The room was fairly small for four people. The room is perfect for 2 people. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room.
I stayed at Short Stories for three days, a few days before New Year’s Eve. I’ve been staying at this place since it was called Farmer’s Daughter, back in the early 90s. I was always well treated, and it has always been one of my favorite hotels in Los Angeles because of the atmosphere, the location, and the staff. This time was a disappointment. I have never seen such a cold, dry, unfriendly staff. No eye contact, no smiles, no “good morning” or “good evening” in any situation. They just stand behind the counter with serious faces. I passed through the lobby many times during my stay, at different hours, and the attitude was always the same. I paid close attention to this, morning and night, every day. Management really needs to change the staff policy. Basic courtesy is free. I asked for my room to be cleaned at 9:00 a.m. when I left to get breakfast. I was dryly told that priority was given to rooms checking out. My room was not cleaned until 3:00 p.m. That’s all I have to say. I miss the Farmer’s Daughter. Please do better.
i loved the property
it could have a better service and staff
離farmer mark 5分鐘
Great location just opposite the Farmers Markets and it was a nice touch being offered a sparkling water or prosecco on arrival. It was also good to have access to chilled water in the hotel foyer.
There were 3 of us staying in a two queen bed room but towels and robes were only provided for 2 people. We had to ask several times before extra towels were provided. Rooms are comfortable but we were in a block of rooms that was across the car park from the main hotel and the noise from the main road was pretty loud. We had a drink at the hotel bar and the staff member at the bar was not at all welcoming.
The room was really cozy, clean and the bed was siper comfy
The recepionist on arrival on the 29th seemed that she just got out of bed. Shirt almost all open, hair was a mess and not professional or nice at all. Overall staff could have been friendlier
Location. Good storage in bathroom
Poor lighting. Walk through outdoor, uncovered courtyard to room. Terrible coffee. Uncomfortable seating in room. So many books and objects in the room on the tables that there was no place to put our stuff. Looked nice but wasn’t functional.
Comfy room and good tv. Right across the road from the grove and farmers market and bus station that goes through to Walk of Fame
Nothing
Location is good
The valet and front desk associates were friendly and helpful. The courtyard is beautiful. Wish we had had time to have a cocktail
Rooms in the adjacent building were just ok not worth $250/night.
Close to The Grove. Could walk to my destination.
Very high parking fees not disclosed by booking.com and had to place a $200. Deposit after paying for room not disclosed by Booking.com. Very expensive stay. My car was parked right outside my room, but the valet had my keys, I had to carry all my luggage to the front desk when I could have conveniently put it into my car because the valet needed his tip! Poor guest service.
Bar was great Location is perfect Mini bar was the best

What guests love
Areas to consider
Cleanliness
7.8/10Generally reported as very clean in several reviews, but a serious negative (multiple guests reporting cockroaches) lowers overall cleanliness sentiment.
Service
9.5/10Many comments praise welcoming, friendly staff and a helpful valet; however a few reports note indifferent reception staff and poor communication around billing—overall service is strong but inconsistent.
Location
9.9/10Consistently praised: right across from The Grove and Farmer's Market, walking distance to shops, restaurants and easy access to LA attractions.
Room Quality
8.1/10Rooms described as clean and comfortable and some spacious, but complaints include small bathrooms, limited counter space, cold bare floors, no luggage racks and at least one misaligned door.
Amenities
8/10Nice courtyard, cool foyer/bar and valet service noted; lacks in-room coffee and had limited in-room conveniences (e.g., luggage racks), giving a mixed amenities impression.
Value for Money
8/10Several guests find it good value or well priced for a short stay, but others were upset about high nightly rates, unexpected charges and a perceived lack of refund/price adjustment handling.
Food and Beverage
8.4/10On-site bar and lobby coffee available (but limited timing); excellent nearby dining (Farmer’s Market, Du Pars) supports positive F&B sentiment despite limited in-room offerings.
Overall Experience
9.9/10Many guests enjoyed the quintessential vintage LA vibe, location and friendly elements (courtyard, valet), making overall stays positive despite isolated cleanliness and communication issues.
