Lovely modern hotel. Comfortable rooms. Four star hotel at three star prices. Within walking distance of the quaint town of Voorschoten with all its restaurants and shops. No boarded up premises there. What's it's secret?
Very nice hotel, with large rooms, a bathtub and free parking in the hotel area. Everything we expected from the place we wanted to stay in. You should definitely visit also local small shop which is right next to the hotel. + nice people on the reception + fresh towels were left in front of our door when we wanted to be not disturbed (nevertheless we would be also happy without clean towels every day) + balcony + huge parking + super comfortable bed - ad hoc toiletries during our 4 day stay (but shower gel and shampoo was always there, so no big deal) - one day we got 3 hand-towels instead of two bath-towels Overall we enjoyed our stay very much!
The only comment on cleanliness was that it was generally very good bar the bathroom sink which required some serious attention.
Room was lovely - clean and fresh with a cute balcony. Lack of restaurant was disappointing; the pancake restaurant offered breakfast, but €10 for a pancake with chocolate spread seemed a bit steep! 3 star review is based entirely on the fact a member of staff let themselves into our room!
Lovely spacious room with a balcony. Bike rental was easy. Very friendly reception.
We choose this hotel because it was close to Keukenhof garden and close to The Hague. The rooms are spacious and clean. Only a part from the hotel is open and there is no restaurant on the site. They provide breakfast from to restaurants but we didn’t try it. 100m away you can find a very good food shop and also a coffe shop. Not very far from the hotel 1,5km you can find restaurants and bars. Overall it was a good stay .
Good hotel, good food, nice sunny terrace but unfortunately they allow dogs in the restaurant. We don't like that, because it is not very clean. Rooms are very dark. Breakfast is good but we would prefer 'a la carte' and not a buffet, because of Covid19.
Hotel is centraal gelegen. Kamer netjes en schoon. Eten was prima. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL Since we have children and grandchildren who live in Voorschoten, we have had several extended stays at this hotel over the past few years and we’re scheduled to start another stay this Friday . Previously we were satisfied with the hotel, restaurant, bar, and the store. While the room, meals, etc were a bit expensive we were satisfied in that it was conveniently close to both our children’s homes. We got in the habit of booking well in advance in order to save on the cost. However, with COVID-19, our KLM flight was cancelled and KLM refunded our ticket price in full. Since our flight was cancelled, we have been attempting to get our room reservations at the Van der Valk Hotel de Golden Leeuw either refunded or credited for a future stay. The management has been extremely rude and slow in their response, to us. The Manager actually refused to even speak with us. They refused to work with us, even after the EU banned Americans from traveling to Europe. We have been good and regular customers , spending over $2000 each trip for the room, restaurant, bar and grocer. Apparently the hotel is doing well enough that they do not need our business in the future. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL
Sehr zufrieden. Gutes Restaurant. Saubere Zimmer. Bequeme Betten. Top Badezimmer
Very good hotel, comfortable and quiet
Spacious, clean & well-furbished rooms at competitve price. Restaurant food delicious or for an alternative dining experience try the Restaurant Upstairs. Friendly & helpful staff. Have stayed here on many occasions & will keep returning.
A big table with 13. After the funeral of my mother in law. Menu not bad. Food okay. Dry fish. Service bad. Hot plates given across the table. Burning hands. Coffee special with a great delay in coffee. But the worst was the bill. Father in law went to pay. Did not see and understand clearly what the price was. Nearly ended up paying 200 euros too much. No word of excuse. Reaction: a lot of people give 200 as a tip. What a shame!
Very good service and cleanliness at this place. Always stay here when in the Netherlands. Awesome breakfast buffet and the reception staff are very helpful. Also within walking distance to pizza shops and supermarkets.
From the time I arrived to the time I departed the staff were very helpful nothing was a problem for the staff reception team A++ jacoozi Champaign all in thanks guys you are appreciated another stay planned
Toller, ganz neuer Wellnessbereich.
I booked this hotel because it said it has a spa including a sauna. This was a gift for my partner. The night was 150 euros excluding breakfast but because it was supposed to include the spa it seemed ok. When we arrived they told us that the sauna is not finished and that there’s only a pool. I had to pay 40 euros extra for breakfast which, to be honest is not very good. The tables were all dirty, nobody comes to clean then even if you ask for it. The food is not worth the price at all! I went to the reception to explain the fact that I booked the hotel only for the spa, and the woman at the reception said that I should read things better!! What type of comment is that??? I’ll never be back to this hotel... that is for sure! And I will never recommend it! They are Liers and they rip you off.
Today I visited the new health spa at this hotel and was very impressed. It’s really lovely. I specifically wanted to use the pool as there are few opportunities to swim for adults only in this area. The pool is well designed and fitted out to a high quality. It has a lovely view of this green area and is peaceful too. I’m really impressed. The staff are helpful and the facilities are impressive. There isn’t a hotel with a pool in the area.
Room could do with an update, it was pretty old-fashioned
Pleasant ambiance in the several restaurants and eco friendly food offerings.
Hotel is located just outside Leiden, on a convenient bus route to Leiden and The Hague. Short walk into a village with grocery store, cafes and shops. Great staff. Very comfortable!
We were in the building located just beside the main building. The room was large, clean and well appointed with a patio area to sit in as the sun set. Not much in area but excellent bus links to Leiden and The Hague.
Reception staff unprofessional inefficient impolite . It took 2 days and repeated requests to the reception only to get info over Jacuzzi and air conditioning (a technician was finally sent; no vallet service available at the entrance). Air conditioning functioning only at highest speed and noise (note that I booked a Luxe Kamer !). Room cleaning done only a few minutes before 14.00 (again only after repeated requests to the reception). No change of bed sheets in 3 days. A waste of money! Only one positive remark : restaurant staff Always friendly and nice .
Very good hotel, traditional in style that offers excellent food options in site, including an excellent produce store. Convenient location for visiting The Hague & Leiden; only wish we’d had more time to do it. Only downside was a small bag for medication was not placed in freezer the night before our departure as specifically requested.
Overall, the hotel cannot be faulted but it is unfortunate that smokers congregate under the canopy at the entrance, notwithstanding the fact that there are 2 notices indicating that it is a non-smoking area. Thus making it unpleasant for non-smokers entering and leaving the hotel.
Lovelt hotel, very clean and comfortable room. The service was excellent. Only one little complaint the double bed had two single duvets on it so it was a little cold.
This hotel has chic dark modern decor and is perfectly clean with spacious rooms and helpful friendly staff. There is a great lobby with warm fires- it was cold when I visited- but the outdoor seating areas look lovely too. There also seems to be a deli style market on the site/resort which I didn’t visit but looked very interesting. The town is very quiet and leafy so it is a nice walk to the train station but also there are buses stopping right outside for the nearby cities. I ordered room service in the evening and this was a little disappointing but that was my only meal so it may not represent all the choices. Breakfast was excellent except for the machine coffee. Would definitely stay again. Cool vintage pics of the area in the lobby too.
Great place, food was a little pricey. Better to go into town. The rooms were spacious and nice. Would stay there again.
The Hotel is located within a "Just off" city congestion and lies between the cities of The Hague and Amsterdam. It is a hotel that will not disappoint you to be sure. The rooms are very comfortable and the service certainly worth noting. The ONLY problem is if you rent a car for your trip and stay at this hotel property that parking may become a huge inconvenience. It is due to the hotel property operating 3 plus restaurants that results in challenging times. As tourist, we of course arrive back at the hotel evenings, just at the time conferences and diners do as well. Otherwise, I have stayed at other Van Der Valk's hotels and they have all been wonderful experiences. Not much to worry about, rather - ENJOY !!
Great staff. Super comfy beds! We didn’t check out any of the amenities outside of the room. Great experience we searched for van der valk for our next stop
We stayed 2 nights as part of our Summer holiday, the room are well maintained with all what you need Our room was in the ground floor and we were not comfortable with a few summer insects coming from the garden, I was relay annoyed by room service staff keeping the slide door open
Great accommodation, but food pedestrian ! Review of Van der Valk Hotel Den Haag-Nootdorp Pending review Dear reader, you must remember that this is about food ! So while Van der Valk might be a great place to stay, the question is whether you would drive there for a great meal .. for me, this is alas a NO. I ate dinner twice in the restaurant - the first time, the service was really good and the waitress here could well go on to great things, and the steak ordered pretty good. Second time round the service was bizarre (messing up the options and the bill) and the sea bass dry and uninteresting.
Even though our stay was only overnight we enjoyed every moment. This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel and each time we have had a great room and enjoyed the hotel amenities. The hotel is ideally situated to visit the local attractions, and the beach at Wassaanar a short drive away. The deli at the side of the hotel is great to buy food for picnics and gifts to take home. I look forward to my next visit!
I very much enjoyed my few days at this hotel, the restaurant was busy and served fairly straightforward but tasty food, breakfast was good, there is a nice bar in the evening with decent food too and the guest rooms are spacious, light and pretty quiet. The staff were kind and efficient. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the overwhelming perfume in the lobby and adjacent corridors.
Have been coming here a lot over the and have always been very pleased unfortunately the food quality standards and dining room facilities are not what they used to be. Breakfast not good as bacon and scrambled egg is over - cooked and some bread stale ie hard crust. Evening meal was ordered towards the end of the evening 45 minutes before closing but was unable to order a number of meals as they were no longer available. Soup was just about warm and the pasta meal the same and not edible, had to leave. Restaurant area needs a new carpet and new furniture as now quite grubby. May not visit again, a shame as this hotel has great memories for us.
Nice hotel an staff. Renovated rooms and beds are very comfortable. Good dinner at one if the restaurants on their nice patio. I would stay here again.
The hotel boasts a gym, small but with several fitness machines according to the website. That unfortunately was overrated as the weights cannot really be used as elemental pieces are missing. Into gym? don't go here. I had several napkins laying about my bathroom for 7 days straight, no one picked them up. The sheets had not been changed at the frequency stated on the instructions and my lunchbox - preordered several days in advance - only was correct one out of 7 lunchboxes. The stale bread really annoyed me, especially when the reply from the kitchen was they had run out of bread. The hotel has a long way to go, before I shall return.
Very nice hotel and great service. Convenient location. Free parking a plus. Rooms very spacious, excellent beds and luxury bathroom. Can definitively recommend and will stay again.
When you're looking for a good place to stay in The Hague area Hotel De Gouden Leeuw is a very good alternative. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and above all: clean! So is the bathroom. Staff is very friendly and helpfull. The breakfast offered is very, very good. If you like to go out on a bike the environment is realy nice. At the reception desk the have several cycling routes and they are all worth the time". Next the the hotel they have created a "Fresh Market". This worth a visit: Very nice products for a reasonable price. We like to come back one day.
Rooms are spacious, well appointed and comfortable. There are couple of restaurants and they are quite good. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel could think of placing 1 or 2 bottles of packaged water and a cloth iron in the room. One of the minor irritant is the vending machines in hotel do not accept any cards (only euro coins). A short term visitor to Europe (like me) may be only carrying credit / cash cards. Other than these minor issues, this place offers a great stay, good in-house food and great value for money.
I used to work in this establishment more then 45 years ago!! It was a small restaurant but well known in the area. My sister and I reminisced about working in the kitchen. We had coffee with apple pie and a Crock Madam. Glad we shared the latter, it tasted great but was huge and very rich. The service was adequate.
Very nice rooms, large and luxurious bathrooms, comfortable beds, and lots of storage! Nice onsite restaurant is a bonus. Bus pick-up right in front of hotel makes travel easy. Bike rental a plus!
stayed here while visiting my son, the hotel was very well equipped, staff very helpful, my room was lovely and big and airy i booked a deluxe double room, bed was queen size, lots of tea and coffee etc, Bathroom was amazing with Jacuzzi bath and separate shower, lots of smellies and flannels provided in room. We ate breakfast here one morning and was not dissapointed, huge selection of cooked, and continental, fruit and yogurt, staff were very helpful, and dining room was huge and very clean and well kept. Will definitely stay here again when visiting Holland
Excellent hotel, nice big rooms very clean and comfortable. Breakfast buffet good choice and kept wrell stocked through service. Had dinner in hotel each night as no other restaurants near by yiou could walk to. menu failrly extensive, good quality with VERY large portions.. Hotel ocation is at the end of town about a mile out, but on a bus route direct into town and also into The Hague, which was much easier to visit by bus tha car.
Booked hotel at the end of our holiday in Holland because of proximity to attractions and airport. Good value for the dollar and enjoyed the village of Voorschoten which was within walking distance.
Great hotel. Room and restaurant are great. Close enough to airport that there was no rush in the morning
Large room, large window, lovely bath with stall shower and whirlpool tub. Good restaurant, wonderful buffet breakfast (additional cost) attentive and helpful servie throughout.
Nice hotel, friendly staff. Rooms were clean an Dell appointed. Very reasonable price..large breakfast buffet with a very good selection of cooked and cold food. Would definitely stay again.
a smart hotel good quality smart room with a large jacuzzi . very nice restaurant
We had a previous excellent experience in this hotel so were very disappointed when the eperience this time was not as good. It was cold (overnight frost) and only very thin duvet on bed. When additional duvet/blanket requested we were told the hotel was full so there was no additional linen available! We had booked twin room, beware all beds are double (2 singles with a double mattress topper). Last visit we had been given additional sheets so could separate the beds. This time though our request for additional linen was declined so 15 year old had to share with his Mum. Not good! Sadly our room was right next to the front door which banged every time someone went in or out - not conducive with a good night's sleep. Sadly, I feel service has slipped. Reception showed no interest in our concerns (or the lady in front of us who complained about a very dusty room! ) and breakfast was somewhat disappointing compared with our previous visit. Next time we visit our family in this town I would be unlikely to return again. Shame, as it is an otherwise lovely hotel in a good location for us.
We enjoyed our stay here 4 years ago and this time didn't disappoint either. The room was lovely with plenty of facilities, the staff were cheerful and friendly and the breakfast buffet was amazing with an excellent choice of food. Can definitely recommend!
Stylish, close to all amenities, balcony, view. Prices of dinner quite stiff.
I wanted to book a twin bedded room, I had two relatives staying in one room which was fine, but they didn't want to share a double bed. Therefore I'd to pay 19 odd euro's per night on top of the room charge to have a roll away bed. We were in Holland for a relative's funeral and it would have been great for both guests to get a good nights sleep where as the one who had the roll away bed found it uncomfortable. The beds are twins with a double mattress on top! Even some married couples sleep in separate beds, would it be so hard to provide a few rooms with these?
Busy hotel with lots of big parties but well catered for. Food good and helpings plentiful Décor modern and striking Parking free
This hotel does not offer hotel transportation like it says on the site .. it's a 90 euros trip from airport to hotel and have to pay 60 euros back .. ended up paying same for taxis then the room cost .. hotel does not reimburse you they've ayleen it up to the company used to book it .. and have to pre-order taxi back to airport had to wait an hour almost missed my flight
We stayed 3 nights before flying out, after 3 weeks auto touring and skiing. Big parking lot and centrally located (Delft was especially nice-sized town). It has a bird park (great for kids) and lots of natural habitat. Not within walking to Leiden. Close to airport. Big rooms, bathroom and balcony for easy packing for flight out.
Our stay was very pleasant. This was the second time that we've stayed at this hotel. It is very spacious and has a great breakfast in the morning.
Very nice hotel and excellent breakfast
Room has a very poor, old, scratched furniture and right above garage. No minibar. On the good side the guard was waiting for us to arrive till 05h00am.
Took us a little time to find the hotel but worth it. Our room was in the annex across from the main building and was a little tired it also had no fridge in the room.Breakfast was very good and check out was very easy.
We loved it here but would also love to see coffee in the lobby early in the morning. Had trouble renting enough bikes on day #1.
We chose this hotel because we knew it from living close by several years ago. The food is good and the general ambience is quiet and it is frequented by the local middle to older age group. It is on the 45/46 bus route that travels from Leiden Central Station to The Hague Central Station which run every 10 to 15 mins during the week and every half hour at weekends in both directions. We like a soft bed and the beds in this hotel are nice and soft. There was plenty of hot water and the room had a bath and separate shower. We were automatically given 2 electronic keys when we checked in. We stayed for 5 nights and paid separately for breakfast on one morning. Breakfast is very good, but if you don't want a lot it is not cheap. There are many places in Leiden where you can get a good breakfast. You should try the Dutch speciality 'uitsmijter' which is toast with ham and cheese and fried eggs on top - delicious!
I was to. Stay for a daily rate of 94 euros but I was charged 130.00 euros so l won't. Stay there again.
This hotel is impressive, I just wish I had more time to check it out. It was not very busy when I was there so I got a free upgrade to a comfort room. The room was big, impeccably clean and looking very modern and stylish. Big work desk. Only slight inconvenient was that it was actually in another building on the other side of the street from the main hotel. Food at the restaurant was delicious, took them 10 minutes to notice I was at a table (they had no one assigning tables), but after that service was fast and well timed. There are lots of sports and leisure activities, Gym in the main building as well as in the adjacent building. Pity there was really not much going on near the hotel in terms of entertainment. Will definitely go back if I have to work around there again.
Lovely quiet hotel. Interior design of my room was brilliant, very modern. Woth the low price I paid (£137 for 2 nights. 1 room for 3 adults) I would recommend to anyone visiting the area.
Hotel is a little run down and could do with some TLC.
Lovely place surrounded by a area with rare animals to be seen like kangooroos, very nice for children. Room very clean and luxurious as well as the bathroom. Cleaning service very efficient. Overall a very satisfactory experience.
Functional rooms at a good price. The only remark I will make is that the beds were not made very well and the hot water was very very hot but overall our stay was fine and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Van der Valk Hotels are just the best for either a short or a longer stay. They provide the guest with a fantastic service; at the "balie" staff was very helpful, printed out requests and were ever so friendly. Dinner a la carte a bit pricey but tasty, so no complains. Breakfast something for everybody with a great variety and with self service happy faces all around! My complements and thanks for having me and I will certainly return one day.
Must go, brilliant hotel will be going again!!
We stayed overnight and we asked for a cot beforehand. Got a bed and then had to pay 5 Euros for a cot. Hotel was fine but they had building work going on outside early in the morning.
Very impressed, friendly and spoke English very well
We had a very pleasent stay at this hotel. The restaurants offer a good choice of meals at a reasonable price.
Comfortable and pleasant room. Delicious buffet breakfast which we could have outside on the patio and lovely garden area
Beautiful hotel: lobby, rooms and dining space. The absolute best breakfast we had on our 10 day trip, with anything you can think of. Very comfortable beds, high quality bedding, all amenities. Good restaurant or short 5 minute drive to shopping area with street of 6 restaurants. Went to 3 of them. go to chocolate shop in town. Only drawback was young man who checked us in kept getting our rooms mixed up, we had 3 booked. Then he insisted we put 600 Euro additional on our acct. Got it back but that was extravagant.
The hotel exceeded my expectations! Good Wifi, friendly staff, excellent restaurant. Superb food & most importantly really comfortable beds & rooms. I cant fault it at all. I would recommend this hotel.
Fantastic Restaurant! Food was really good. Didn't have such a nice food and service in the recent past. If anyone visits here to stay I would recommend trying out food.
Fab
The hotel is close to Den Hague and has free parking. Parking is always a problem in the Netherlands. The restaurant in the hotel is very much frequented by locals.
Everything was great except sometimes the barman was too busy talking to serve.
This is a nice hotel , very quiet , comfortable rooms. Check in was a bit slow but check out was fine.Don't get there after 10 as the restaurant closes and like me you will got hungry !
This is the 3rd Valkyrie that we stayed in and they were all excellent
For the money, I think our room needed updating. The food was good.
