The bed was comfortable and the castle and grounds were mainly nice.

The food was overpriced and really below standard. We cancelled our dinner reservation for the second night as it was really bad. The interior particularly the spa is dated. We had to wait for literally 20 minutes to be shown to our room whereas we could have just been given a key. We have been before but sadly we won't come back after this trip.

The Room was really nice and comfortable, with amazing views. The lounges and hallways were very impressive in style and deco ( although not all areas, lots of very dated styling also in the building still)

The coffee was terrible at breakfast, the breakfast was really basic for the price. The brasserie was really expensive for the basic food and dessert options. Pana Cotta was a hard jelly, with a really weak and watery and bad strawberry puree. The deco in some part of the hotel including the main dinning room are very dated, including dated glass signage everywhere in corridors including the reception. Some area in the corridors upstairs had really tacky cheap fake flowers in a vase. The swimming pool needs updating in style, plus the swimming times for kids is too short not allowing them to swim after 5pm, should be atleast 6-6.30pm. The kids play area is really far from the grounds. past the golf course! Also needs a bespoke room for the kids in the main lounges of the castle.

I liked the property’s location.

I didn’t like that breakfast wasn’t included in the price. Also it was very expensive for what we had!

No aircon, I know it’s an old building but they could add aircon units on roof. Pool needs renovating. Bedrooms aren’t up to scratch for 5* hotel (already raised with mgmt).

Das Anwesen und das Grundstück waren beeindruckend. Die antike Einrichtung und Mobiliar hatten einen besonderen Flair. Größtenteils freundliches Personal.

Stickiges und kleines Zimmer ohne Klimaanlage. Das Bad war wie eine Sauna, scheinbar ohne funktionierenden Abzug. Hellhörige Zimmer. Das Personal wusste größtenteils nicht was sie genau machen sollen und konnte sich nichts merken. Teilweise wirklich dilettantisches Verhalten.

Breakfast second day not the best. Service slow and repeatedly had to keep asking for things. Scrambled eggs were lovely but cold. Shame at £66 for two.

I loved my visit last year so when I had to book another night down in Devon I decided to come back again

The food (lunch and dinner) was not great given the price. The margarita pizza was disappointing - for over £18 you expect a home made base. The bbq was underwhelming starters were a mixed bag, the salads were tired and the mains, both pork and brisket were over cooked. Cocktails were poor with multiple ingredients missing. Breakfast was good.

Quality of food was very poor and overpriced for a five star hotel. We had to wait too long for service in the Brasserie.

Prächtige schlossähnliche Anlage mit herrlicher Aussicht.

Wenig ausgeschildert und schwierig zu erreichen. Im Gesamten schön, jedoch ein wenig in die Jahre gekommen. Das Personal freundlich aber teils ein wenig überfordert.

The gym was a bit odd , staff used it as a cut through dragging bags of laundry behind them !!! Pool was very noisy when the jacuzzi was on and the beautiful panoramic windows were stained so all a bit tired and needed some TLC .

The look of the property was just stunning. Idyllic surroundings in Dartmoor National Park

The price of everything is just too high. The food is not worth the money at all. Also, for the amount you pay for a room I would expect breakfast to be included. The staff however were great! It was our 25th anniversary too and all we received were some rubbish chocolates, bad apples and no complimentary bottle of something nice which we have had in other hotels before whilst not taking out a mortgage for it. It was style over substance.

Lodges are brilliant. For our family, with dogs, they are perfect. I love that you have the hotel facilities of you need them but have the independence of a lodge.

Restaurants have great service but food is underwhelming.

It was a very luxurious place. They made us feel really special, as it was my mums 70th.

We booked because it was ‘dog friendly’ but wasn’t as dog friendly as we expected. Completely understand dogs not being allowed in certain areas, but then we wasn’t able to enjoy some of great services like the restaurant. We wasn’t able to get room service from that menu.

Staff were so friendly. Especially Scott from the restaurant, Tyler and waiter and the masseuse Daisy. They were all so amazing and made us felt welcome like at home.

The food at both restaurants leaned more towards presentation than flavour, particularly at Smith. My husband’s steak was unfortunately let down by a peppercorn sauce that had an overpowering chemical smell — so strong it was noticeable from across the table. When we raised this with the manager that evening, he didn’t share our concern, though the sauce was replaced. With much of the steak already inedible by that point, it was a disappointing experience. That said, our bill came in noticeably lower than expected — we believe the steak may have been quietly removed, which was a thoughtful gesture. Our waiter at Smith was genuinely warm and attentive throughout, and that friendliness didn’t go unnoticed.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

I thought that the food in Smith's brasserie was a little bit underwhelming. It was a Sunday evening and so the other restaurant wasnt open so the Smiths Brasserie was our only option. The food was Ok, but not amazing! the rest of the hotel experience was exceptional

We had an excellent stay at Bovey Castle, fantastic grounds, excellent restaurants and bar. We will definitely be back soon.

I booked a family room with a view and got a view of a roof and Chimneys, but the room was nice although not open plan like stated so I was a little disappointed when I first checked in. However the bed was super comfy. Staff were amazing and the food was absolutely fantastic. We really enjoyed the spa and an incredible walk in the grounds. The setting was lovely by the river. I would defiantly stay again but would perhaps not pay so much for a family room and just choose a double for half the price. Highly reccoment the restaurant..

The staff were exceptional throughout. The property and the grounds are really peaceful and attractive.

The gym could do with a bit of an upgrade. Disappointed that the Great Western restaurant was closed and that Smiths Brasserie didn’t have a great selection of green vegetables to accompany the good food that they served up.

Exceptionally well decorated for Christmas, log fires and lovely ambience. Beautiful grounds, well maintained. Some of the staff were friendly and welcoming Extremely dog friendly

Breakfast one morning was poor. Buffet not topped up, no yogurt, poor fruit selection and awful table service. At £28 per person very poor value. Room was not serviced by 3PM and had to ring reception to get it done Extra charge of £60 per night for bigger room because of having two dogs (both small) on top of £50 per night charge for the dogs - total £220 for two nights Parking outside hotel was a bit of a shambles - with not nearly enough capacity

The property and its grounds are beautiful and our room (castle room) was spacious enough. Food at the Grill restaurant was very good - we had 3 consecutive dinners. Staff members were mostly pleasant and helpful. The heated wardrobe area was a nice touch for winter.

A few things might be outdated and needed some up-keeping or refurbished - like the blinds in our bathroom (13). The water was barely warm for the bathtub and the drainage in the shower room was very slow. There was not enough shelves nor drawers to put smaller pieces of clothing.

Activities proposed by the hotel were really fun, and led by knowledgeable and friendly guides. The premises had several beautifully-decorated and comfortable lounges to relax. The grounds are beautiful to walk through and offer great views.

The swimming pool and changing rooms work but could use a refresh. The food at Smith's is not the best, especially given the price.

We loved the cosy lounges with grand fire places and huge Christmas trees. What an amazing time of year to visit. We had the most amazing time, made extra special by the fantastic staff in every department.

Excellent service and fabulous location

Spacious and great for families. We’ve stayed here a couple of times and love the lodge properties. They offer a fantastic balance of privacy and space for groups with the hotel facilities on hand. Perfect for golf and exploring Dartmoor. Dog friendly too, which is a huge plus. Lodges are well appointed and have everything you need for a comfortable family stay.

We didn’t receive our welcome basket or any instructions for ordering lodge service. A day after we arrived we were informed we’d been shown to the “wrong” lodge. We weren’t asked to move but it was a bit bizarre. Spa online booking system is clunky and doesn’t work well, especially if booking for more than one treatment at a time.

Ein sehr schönes Hotel in traumhafter Lage. Das Personal war sehr zuvorkommend und hilfsbereit. Das Haus und der Park werden mit viel Fachwissen unterhalten.

Das Nachtessen in der Smith Brasserie war qualitativ sehr gut. Leider war hier die Servicequalität nicht im gleich guten Standart wie im restlichen Haus. Und, unsere Stühle waren defekt. Schade, dass der Standart vom restlichen Haus nicht auch hier gehalten wird.

The room and housekeeping to the room was excellent. The porter who collected our bags on leaving will go a long way in his career. The location and facilities to relax was also excellent.

The food was not first class. The breakfast was far from value for money. We had to ask for everything - coffee, toast, milk. The pool was cold.

Some areas need TLC (ceilings), staff lacking training for a 5-star establishment (no offer of assistance from the doorman when arrived in the rain, at check out we weren’t asked how was our stay) - Sally being the exception, the cooked breakfast was disappointing (for example only one half of an English muffin seemed unnecessarily stingy)

Die Lage, der Garten und das Schloss mit der Bar, Library sowie Frühstück und Smith’s waren sehr gut.

Das Personal an der Rezeption und auch teilweise in der Bar scheint nicht so motiviert und der Service ist sehr langsam, auch nicht 5-Sterne entsprechend. Genauso wenig, wie die Duschmatte im Zimmer.

Staff were amazing, the place itself is beautiful. Only feedback would be the spa could do with a touch up. Re paint, tiles missing in the pool, sauna as broken seat.
