Lovely soft bed and lovely bedding
Staff weren't very welcoming; checkout lady disinterested, breakfast lady didnt crack a smile, or a pleasant word. Evening meal meadeocre and dessert inedible.
very quaint but very clean. Staff are fabulous
nothing
I have mixed feelings about this hotel. On the positive side our room was spacious with a large comfortable bed. There were two ‘easy’ chairs but strangely they didn’t have a back so it wasn’t possible to relax in them. For some reason the en-suite bathroom was raised up so when I stood in the bath to have a shower I was unable to stand up straight. Our experience at dinner was not great. A young man checked his iPad and showed us to our table only for an older woman to say “You can’t sit there!” Our food was good although the table next to us were not at all pleased with their choices. As we were staying and there was no one about we left the restaurant to take our dog for a walk. On our return the people next to us at dinner informed us that the woman who had served us told them we had walked out without paying! In my opinion this was totally unacceptable. We were staying guests! At breakfast I asked if I could have an omelette as I didn’t want a full breakfast only to be told “We don’t do omelettes”. Any half decent hotel should be able to ‘rustle up’ an omelette. In summary the stay was marred by a very rude member of staff and we won’t be returning.
Everything. It was such a lovely stay.
Only little thing was that the heating was on! It was too hot
Good location. Nice old building. Good Bar and Restaurant
Old worn carpets in rooms
Outstanding stay looking forward to going back
A lovely cosy room, great amenities, comfortable bed, food at the pub was lovely and breakfast was delicious with a good choice. Our golden retriever was also very well accommodated.
Nothing!
Room 20 visited by Rupert the cat !
The staff were excellent. Very dog friendly.
Nothing
Comfortable hotel in good location for our trip. Good food. Friendly, helpful staff.
Fenomenalna atmosfera, obsługa i śniadanie
We had the warmest welcome for us and our dog! The hotel is charming and old, yet fresh and clean. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the bath the hottest water! Breakfast was delicious and even our dog was given a sausage! Situated in the heart of the town, there was plenty to do within a moments walk. We will definitely come back!
Nothing- we enjoyed it all
Clean and well managed. Friendly staff too.
Parking provided in the local public car park. Free after 6 pm until 9 am. Food is spectacular. Clean and tidy. Despite limit resource for staff locally, they did their best and were very friendly. Homemade shortbread in the room was delicious. Pub is a local haunt and loads of visitors frequent it too. Co-Op opposite open until 10 for any bits you need. Great location.
The room shown in the photos was not equivalent to the one I received. Mine was pokey and small. Cramped for two people - okay for one person for a night. Shower was hot and powerful but tight. Street side room but road noice was not enough to keep one awake.
Lovely white bed linen and towels. Large comfortable bed. Hotel is nicely presented overall.
A lot of stairs. Bathroom a little tired around washbasin .
Lovely location. Room was pleasant and very clean. Good breakfast.
Slight confusion with the booking; called nearly a month before arrival to be told there was a leak in our room and could we come the following weekend, not possible as we were attending a wedding but thankfully they honoured the booking.
Mooi gezellig hotel. Goed eten zowel ontbijt of dinner . mooie kamers
Very comfortable and a lovely breakfast choice ! 3rd time back here and our preferred choice each September.
No issues as usual !
Location in centre of town. Good value for money with wide range of breakfast choices. Friendly staff.
Quite noisy if you have window open as there’s quite a lot of traffic for a small town. Need to pay for nearby parking - however could easily pay for 24 hours and there was lots of spaces
Great location and great staff
Room was a bit dated and directly above the locals bar which was noisy till very late.
Got a last minute booking, which we needed as we were not expecting to need a stopover. Friendly reception staff and dining room service Very comfortable room. Most enjoyable bath/shower Convenient location for following day. Scrummy breakfast
No parking - used public car park nearby.
Central. Friendly staff
Room/bathroom a little bit tired.
Friendly welcome and service. Perfect stop for us from Cornwall to Poole.
Nothing. Its old and a bit creaky which adds to the ambiance.
The service was friendly and efficient. This was made harder by the fact that the restaurant did not have a 'please wait to be seated' sign, which seemed to result in people walking in and choosing their own seats - causing issues with pre-booked tables. Food was excellent - perhaps more veg would have been good. It felt like we had one portion between two - but really lovely and well cooked and presented
The Restaurant soundtrack was dreadful - with the style of music and volume making conversation very hard. Such a shame in such a wonderful (and pleasantly quirky) setting.
The food was delicious, the room was lovely and spacious, and the bed was extremely comfortable. We especially loved how genuinely dog-friendly the hotel was, which made our stay even more enjoyable. Although they were short-staffed due to sickness, the team handled the situation professionally and still made sure we were well looked after. A really comfortable and enjoyable stay for us and our four-legged companion!
Great central location in Moretonhampstead .We visited for carnival and were in the thick of the action Lovely old hotel that has had some updating - much ‘nicer’ in terms comfort / decor than we remember from 20 years ago! A proper hotel not bland corporate and locals are still very welcome . Staff friendly , bed comfy and we were grateful for fan supplied as it was still warm at night ( unusually in our memory for time of year).Parking in town carparks was straightforward too. Enjoyed breakfast , a leisurely experience .
Not much choice on evening menu for vegetarians ( moving mountains burger - no thank you. ) That aside all the food that we saw come out the kitchen looked lovely. Luckily I have started eating fish again so I was ok- ( my other fallback is salad snd chips which was also available)I had the bream , market fish which was excellent. Carnivores are well catered for so partener was very happy
Room and general hotel pleasant
Lack of communication from staff who often appeared disinterested, at times rude. One lovely lady who cleaned our room and was most helpful and interactive. Food disorganized and took far too long to arrive. Half an hour to be given a menu. Further hour for food to arrive even though the dining room was not busy. Two of our meals were not to standard and we ended up getting reimbursement (overcooked meat and undercooked, almost raw, veggies.
The staff was absolutely wonderful and kind, and we were immediately made to feel extremely welcome. We could use the lounge, the bar, the dining area, the pool table if we wanted. It felt like visiting friends; some place where you are allowed to feel like home after travels. We dined in because we felt we could have a nice evening at the hotel (rather than the need to find a restaurant elsewhere), which we did! The hotel's interior is lovely and well cared for. Our room was large and the beds very comfortable. A lovely little tea collection in the room with homemade shortbreak cookies. Breakfast was home-cooked. Everything was well arranged and the check-in/check-out process easy. I really appreciate that this hotel is not exceedingly expensive; this was certainly worth it. Add to say that this was a last-minute booking for us. We had been travelling to different places and let down by some of the hotels. I had been trying to find *this* :) Different people are looking for different things, or even during different trips. If you are looking for a place where you feel welcome and cared for, but without the sometimes a bit overbearing feeling of staying in a home (B&B), then this is for you.

A very pleasant stay at the White Hart. The room was well decorated, comfortable and had everything I needed. Breakfast was good, and the staff were all friendly and welcoming. The hotel has a lovely, relaxed feel and is a great base for exploring Moretonhampstead and Dartmoor.
This place is one of my favourites. The location is ideal for traveling anywhere on the moor, to walk etc. And the town has some original shops, craftspeople and art to keep your attention whilst strolling. Bertos restaurant is a very pleasant experience as is the Hippo Cafe. The hotel itself: staff are polite and extremely helpful and will go out of their way to help you. There are lots of choices for breakfast, including seating. The restaurant serves delicious meals and the bar serves some excellent drinks. The ambience is pleasant as it should be and the overall feel is of a hotel, which I like. So the whole experience is enjoyable.
The new bedside lamps in room 3 are too low and shine in your eyes rather than shedding light to read etc. It is a minor detail.
The room was very comfortable. The bed was comfortable. It was clean and well catered for. The location was absolutely great and it was easy for us to find parking nearby.
The check-in process was a bit lengthy. They had system issue and needed to correct an error, and also had a recent change of policy for requiring physical bank card for check in (which wasn't included in the booking information). The breakfast was lovely, but there weren't enough staff, and the existing staff were rushed off their feet. We had to wait a long while for someone to take our order for the breakfast. The stay was more akin to B&B rather than Hotel.
Good location and quiet
Rooms can do with updating
Very friendly traditional hotel. Food well above average. Had a breakfast inclusive rate and hotel happily extended hours to 11am on day when I had early appointment. Great view from good sized room.
Some noise from other guests in hotel/pub courtyard thru to around 1130.
We visited with our dog who was treated as a valued guest
Beers in the bar!
All was great
Good choice of food on the restaurant menu and for breakfast. Comfortable environment. Room was not overly warm in this heatwave!

Relaxed friendly hotel, the staff were brilliant and loved the dog package
Surcharge of £10 per dog wasn’t clearly advertised at booking
Great place, good rooms, great breakfast.
Nothing.
Very clean, comfortable and had a lovely ambience.
Parking was paid during the day, but a reasonable price and only a short walk away
It was clean and beds were comfortable.
The room was a bit run down.
Smaakvol ingerichte kamer
Te zachte matras
Location,staff friendly,room very comfortable
Smelly dogs out of control while trying to have a relaxing breakfast is not acceptable
The food was excellent at dinner and breakfast. The bedroom was well designed and very comfy mattress. Quiet location and so a good night’s sleep.
Nothing.
Sehr schönes familiengeführtes Haus mit langer Tradition. Perfekte Lage. Sehr gutes Essen im Haus. Tolles Frühstück. Nettes Personal.
Exceptional service from a young and very friendly team. Everyone was not just professional but also personable.
The bedroom was very fairly priced, it’s probably worth paying the extra if you want a larger more impressive room.
Breakfast generous . Room was adequate, comfy pillows. Bed nice and big.
Service at breakfast a bit slow, due to apparent staff shortage, Shower in room was very small due to limited space. Water pressure was very high, almost unpleasant to stand under. Shower head was positioned too low.
There seemed to be good spaces for drinks and food. Central position and a public car park near by. Staff were friendly
The tiny room was closed up when I checked in, there was no air and it’s was beyond uncomfortably hot. The windows/curtains had no way of being open without staring straight into the opposite house. Breakfast didn’t start until 8am which for people on a work trip like myself couldn’t make use of the ‘breakfast included’ part. Overall really disappointing
The atmosphere was friendly, breakfast was generous, room was spacious, clean and comfortable.
Maybe have a few leaflets/maps about the surrounding area
The staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were nice, and food was also very good. The ensuite bathroom was also nicely laid out and done to a high standard.
I found the pillows a little bit hard on the bed.
Quaint and personable
A little dated
Clean, easy access
Une nuit trois personnes. Chambres confortables.
Really welcoming, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Great location for walks on Dartmoor.
Bed was quite uncomfortable and the bathroom could do with updating.
Gemütliches Zimmer, liebevoll eingerichtet. Sehr freundliches Personal. Leckeres Frühstück.
The staff were 5 stars
Even though they knew that I was travelling with a pet no pet bed, or anything was available in the room. No proper fan and room was too hot. We couldn’t sleep because of the noises from the pub, since the room was facing the courtyard. Not a pleasant night’s sleep.
So dog friendly. There is a charge but what they provide for dogs is worth more than you actually pay. Sausage for breakfast, biscuits at the dinner table- such lovely touches.
Nothing!
The room was a decent size and nicely decorated, with a good sized ensuite.
Great location in centre of village. Comfortable room, friendly bar and restaurant
Nothing
The staff were.friendly and helpful.
Traditional, historical - central location
Was all good ; only improvement could be the modernising of the bathroom in one of the rooms we used.
Had dinner, food was excellent

Good but short stay. Perfect stop when exploring Dartmoor. Comfortable beds, lovely breakfast and friendly staff.
The restaurant menu was changed since our last visit, now it is more simple and pub food like.
The room was very comfortable, the staff very kind, they had also a good quality restaurant. Perfect Place in Dartmoor. Highly recomended!
Breakfast excellent greatchoice
Good breakfast. Limited cereal choice. Excellent portable fan in room and weather/room very hot. Excellent value for money. Huge comfortable bed!
Parking not easy but that's outside of the hotel's control. Town centre is crowded and compact.
A charming, authentic establishment with historic appeal. The rooms are on the first floor, whilst the ground floor houses a bar and the restaurant, where you can enjoy traditional dishes and drinks in a cosy atmosphere. The restaurant and bar close quite early, so they won’t disturb your sleep.
The the room the gi en us was hot because of the weather. They immediately gave us another room which was lovely and comfortable. Brilliant service.
Lovely hotel on the edge of fabulous Dartmoor. The room was super clean. There was a bath and shower, plenty of hot water. Very nice homemade biscuits each day. The breakfast choice was also excellent.
Everything was good.
Characterful old building with lots of charm. Well run. Helpful staff. Good breakfast.
Bathroom was awkward but that was due the age of the building.
Staff were lovely, room full of charm, and lovely a real gem
Nobody’s fault but no parking
It was excellent
Excellent location friendly staff
Snídaně a jidelna
DD, je naprosto nevhodné, abyste poskytovali ubytování v den, kdy pořádáte hudební akci. Prodat někomu pokoj přímo nad místností, kde duní rocková kapela, přišlo příšerné i Vašim zaměstnancům. Hezký den a přejeme spoustu takových vydařených akcí.... Ovšem bez hotelový hostů K. a V.
The staff
The food. If you can’t make toast you have a problem. If you can’t cook eggs seriously. Totally appalling we hate to complain lovely staff but the food absolutely terrible
Very convenient location, great service & lovely locally sourced food
Good location for Dartmoor. Very good plentiful breakfast options.
Very hot stuffy room with traffic noise. Very limited evening food menu.
The staff were really lovely apart from one member of staff who was more interested in speaking to an off duty member of staff and left us waiting for a while.
The food was really poor. The very expensive dinner we had was cold. For breakfast the poached eggs included the water they were cooked in was on the plate, the toast was rock hard and items were forgotten only to be dumped on the side of the plate when asked about. Granted we were told the chef didn’t turn up and they had to get agency staff in but the price (£18 for fish and chips) was very expensive for what you received. My husband had ham egg and chips - the ham was stone cold as were his eggs. I don’t like to leave negative reviews but the only good thing about the hotel were the staff. We paid for two nights but left after one night and came home

Clean room
Parking not included
Subtley nice . Tastefully decorated. Pleasant staff.
No parking on sight but big council car park 80 yardsaway was free overnight and cheap by day .
The room was Immaculate, all the staff were lovely, our dog was right at home and was allowed anywhere in the hotel.
Leaving!
The breakfast was good amount quality and the waitress was lovely.
The floors were on a slope being an old building, they did I not level the bed up properly and my wife rolled out of bed because of the level problem. Couldn’t turn the cold tap on in the bath and when I managed to get it on I couldn’t turn it of. And the bed was very hard. Most unpleasant nights rest I have ever had in a hotel. And the evening meal prices were ridiculous. Luckily found a great local pub and 50 meters away.
Shower ceiling very low , had to bend a little .
Quiet village location ideal as stopover. Good food. Friendly atmosphere. Comfortable room.
Nothing
The bedroom was very comfortable, the bar and outside seating area was pleasant. The breakfast was excellent. Lovely home made shortbread in the room.
The fan provided in the room was cheap and noisy. There was no walk in shower. The bedroom window frames were old and rotten and required repairs
Location edge of Dartmoor moor Breakfast very good selection Could have given more beans Sauces not readily available Fruit juice & yoghurts superb Bed comfortable and very clean room Toiletries really nice Homemade biscuits & quality teas and coffee. Allowing dogs in the breakfast room.
I know it was exceptional hot weather the room was very hot and very difficult to cool down With no air on and fans did not work. Climbing over the bath having to hold the toilet to get in and out for a shower. Not what I expected to do. Very dangerous for older people. Carpet in the hotel worn. Pipe going across the top step going to the room I was worried I would knock it.
Comfortable traditional country hotel. A lovely relaxed nd welcoming ambience.
Staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. Great being able to take my dog and the welcome pack for her was very thoughtful. We had dinner both evenings which was delicious . The rooms are very nice, super comfortable bed. The parking was very near and reasonable. Excellent butchers, pasty was one of the nicest I had had for a long time, nice little grocers as well. Great base for exploring.
Moretonhampstead itself is a bit run down.
Great food and helpful staff
Fantastic room, great food
Location
Had to ask for the dog bed etc They asked for a physical card incase anything was charged to room
fantastic dinner and breakfast. wonderfully dog friendly hotel great customer service throughout. highly recommend and will definitely be back to stay again. thank you
I didn't have time to stay longer!
Mortenhampstead is a lovey little town great village shop Zero, beautiful church and fantastic gallery. Breakfast at the hotel was nice , staff helpful. Beds were OK, very hot, but couldn't open the window because of the street noise. Nice white towels..
The White Hart is in the centre of town and it was very noisy in the room. Room 6, probably the worst room in the hotel. No view as I'd expected, just loads of noise from the traffic outside right on the junction, it was really intense, althoughit did calm down overnight. For the price £140 a night, I expected much better. Bathroom was up two high steps, and the door knob was unpleasantly grubby and sticky, ventilation was.. open the moldy window onto the street. Dinner was steak and ale pie, i had to hunt for the steak and their recommended Merlot was rubbish.
Clean rooms and comfortable bed. Cozy lounge and bar. Excellent breakfast. And friendly, helpful staff.
Nothing significant, but the bath with shower over was rather tight, with limited headroom.
