Amazing experience with our group of 28! Beautiful resort. great food, tons of entertainment throughout the day and in the evenings. Carts always stopped to pick us up. Tons of choices at the buffet even for picky eaters, pescatarians and vegans in our group. Staff always went above and beyond for us!
La comodidad de la habitación, buena comida,

Horrible resort with horrible customer service. The resort as a whole is a dump and they provide no services as described. If booking mistake they are horrible in making adjustment or alterations.
I honestly don’t know how a restaurant can make a family vacation experience this frustrating over six minutes. We had a reservation for 6 people at 6:00 PM at Flame Restaurant at Bahia Principe Punta Cana. Two members of our party arrived at approximately 6:06 PM. Yes, we were six minutes late. SIX MINUTES. The woman at the hostess stand, whose name I believe was Roseangele (I’m not sure of her exact position, whether hostess or manager), told us that because we were late, she could only seat our party at separate tables. Let that sink in: six minutes late, and our family of six was being separated—even though the restaurant was practically EMPTY. What made this even more ridiculous was that there were clearly numerous empty tables available. I even took a photo shortly after we were seated, and the photo shows the restaurant with plenty of available tables and the time. This wasn’t a situation where the restaurant was packed, there were people waiting, or our reservation was genuinely preventing someone else from being seated. We were on a family vacation, trying to enjoy a special evening together. Instead, it felt like we were being punished for being six minutes late. There was absolutely no reasonable justification for treating a family this way when there were so many empty tables. I understand having reservation policies. I understand that restaurants need to manage their tables. But there is a huge difference between enforcing a reasonable policy and using a six-minute delay as an excuse to separate a family when the restaurant has plenty of open seating. The attitude and lack of basic common sense made the entire situation incredibly upsetting. Customer service should involve some level of judgment and common sense, especially at a resort where people are spending their vacation and money expecting to have a pleasant experience. We came to Punta Cana to relax, spend time together, and make family memories—not to be made to feel unwelcome over a six-minute delay. Flame Restaurant at Bahia Principe Punta Cana: this was unacceptable customer service. A completely empty restaurant, plenty of available tables, and yet somehow six minutes was enough reason to separate a family. Management should seriously reconsider how situations like this are handled. Policies are one thing. Making paying vacation guests feel punished and unwelcome when there was clearly no need to do so is another. Very disappointing experience. I would think twice before making a reservation here.
I arrived at Bahia Principe all inclusive resort on June 26, 2026 with a group of about 100 people. I was told before i arrived that i had a room already reserved. After persistence at the front desk, i realized that i didn't have a room available. I feel like i was thrown into a room at the last minute and was very disappointed from day one. The room was very musky, and everything in the bathroom looked very dirty. I took pictures of the fixtures that looked like they haven't been cleaned in a long time. The walls and the floor was dirty. Some blackish color was around the shower and around the floor, especially around the toilet. The walls were cracking apart. You can see on the pics. We were there an hour trying to figure out how to change rooms before unpacking. I used the restroom and it wasn't a surprise that the toilet was backed up (which explains the stains on the floor). The sheets on the bed were disgusting. Should have been white, but were more of a tan color. Smelled like i was inside of a football locker room. I called the desk to complain about the condition and didn't get any help. I had to call twice to get someone to come and fix the toilet. He seemed very annoyed because he was sent to fix the problem. That didn't help how we were feeling. I was finally told that i would have to wait until the next day to change rooms. I refused to sleep in a disgusting dirty room when i paid so much money to get there. I went to the desk a few times until someone finally helped me and put us in another building. We were so far away from my group of 6, and begged to be moved closer together for safety reasons. They put us in a premium room with members, and i was very satisfied. Not sure why anyone would be put in the room we had in the beginning anyways. The beach area was very disappointing as well. Luckily i had done some research about all of the seaweed coming up on the beach, but i didn't expect what i saw. Trucks were on the beach scooping up seaweed, like snow trucks scooping up snow in the winter. That's how bad it was. We were ran out of so many areas, not knowing they were off limits. Most resorts i have been to in the past, we could access their clubs, restaurants and beach area. The night life was pretty much non-existent. There was one club a lot of teens went to at night, but not really anything for people over 40 to attend. By 10:00-11:00, it was a ghost town. The shows were pretty good. but once they ended, there wasn't much to do. There was pretty much one restaurant to eat fries, a hotdog, and other small snacks, but no where to get food after 10:00. We basically walked around looking for something to do. Drinks were very watered down, so nothing to brag about. The bartenders were not friendly at all and acted like they didn't want to be bothered. My friend asked for a sprite, and he was very rude. Pool area was nice, but you have to get there early if you want a seat with shade. I went at 9:00 am and no luck. Overall, i had a good time seeing my old friends, sitting around talking and laughing. Front desk crew. Unfortunately, i can't remember the one lady that actually had awesome customer service. She gave me a hard time for coming there about the room, but i enjoyed the banter with her. Jaycol was awesome and probably made more money on tips than anyone else we encountered. We really appreciated his attitude and keeping us laughing. I have never gone on vacation and wanted to leave the first day i arrived.

The best experience ever and the attention is perfect from the hotel staff. We went to this restaurant, Flame and Katheryn was the best in taking care of me and my family to have a great night. ❤️
It is a beautiful hotel, the service is most of the times good, the rooms are very spacious and pretty. The pools are great, 84 to 89 deg temp. The gym is nice and complete. The beach is not that nice, a lot of sargassum. The buffet was always excellent, a lot of options and delicious food. The rooms have a coffee maker, a mini fridge and plenty of toiletries (not body cream). The water pressure is terrible though. Rooms are very clean and modern. We had a superior premium room. You open the room with your wristband, very cool. The noise at night was too much, they were remodeling and worked till 3 am. The bellboys are very helpful and friendly. They need more people at the front desk, usually it is hard to talk to someone. Jose, Angel (bellboy) and Charina were helpful. The entertainment at night is great, they really try to provide fun and a good time. There are small cars that take you around the hotel. They have a few restaurants but you can only book one every 3 days :(. The coffee makers by the lobby and buffet are very convenient and the options are delicious, they should have more near the beach restaurants. If you need medical care, they charge about $400 for just a medical evaluation, so do not get sick!.
I don’t normally write reviews, but I spent the last week here and had an amazing time with my kids. Our rooms were big, clean, fridge refilled with beer and soft drinks each day. We managed to get bookings at the restaurants we wanted and the food was amazing, The buffet wasn’t the best I’ve had, but always found something to eat. The stand out are the staff, everyone was so friendly and helpful. Three in particular stand out, Anthony and Luis on the entertainment team, always stopped to say hi and have a chat, so lovely and not pushy to join in with games etc. They really are a strong attribute to the hotel. Also my favourite barman Osiris, who made me the best gin and tonics! I will be back

Overall, the hotel was far too big, and there was simply too much going on. The themed restaurants were especially disappointing and did not meet our expectations. The buffet was by far the best option, although you had to go early to find something good. If you arrived later, there were long queues and it became difficult to enjoy the experience. The beach was also disappointing because it was full of seaweed. On top of that, there were so many guests for the staff to handle that the service never felt personal. Unfortunately, we spent more time at reception making complaints and trying to solve problems than actually enjoying the hotel and the property. Overall, it was not the experience we expected, and we left feeling quite disappointed.
The worst part of the experience was definitely the themed restaurants. It was extremely difficult to get a reservation, and after going through all that effort, the experience was a complete disappointment. The food was really, really bad. The quality was far below what we expected, and honestly, it felt like we wasted an entire evening. Considering how difficult it was to book a reservation, we expected much better food and service. In the end, we would have preferred to stay at the buffet, which was actually the best dining option in the hotel.
It is family friendly and budget friendly place. It is not too far from the airport. ~30minutes. The rooms are a decent size, or at least our room is, which was a junior suite. It is good enough for what you pay for. There's a couple of things that I didn't like that's why it's only 3 stars. The bathroom was clean but... one of the towel, has a lot of hair on it, short and long. It seemed that it has been washed, but there's still a lot of hair on it. The shower knob, to pull to transfer the water to the shower head from handheld shower, it was missing. So there was no knob. I had to use my nails and finger to pull the thing out. One of the hand towel, there's a lot of black stains. The bed sheet, there's a big stain in the middle of the sheet. Bed sheet seemed washed, but big stain remains in the middle of it. Pillows and blanket, it smelled really bad, 5 out of 6 of the pillows have a very awful smell. We had everything change the next day. They changed it. Although, the knob in the shower remained missing. Noise level when we are in the bedroom is not bad. Not noticeable. People are very nice. My other complaint would be, when we expressed concern about the "train" for transportation inside the vicinity, they just said "I don't know, thats not oiur department." There was a time when we waited 30 minutes or so, there's still no transportation, and when we were about to leave the resort with out luggage, the "train" conductor or driver just said "oh we can't do the luggage, it has to be the other one." But nobody every called whoever they need to call to assist with the luggage from the room to the lobby. Food is great though. View from the restaurant near the beach are also great. Although the food in the wedding we attended is sub par.
Great entertainment from Robinson and Ruiz!
Perfect resort for a family vacation . Beautiful place !!❤️

Just got back from an amazing trip to this resort with my kids. 4 of us travelling from the UK. We got an upgraded room at no additional cost. Buffet and à la carte restaurants were great. Pools and bars brilliant. The stand out people for us was the entertainment team, especially Melvin, Anthony and Julio they really made our trip so special and fun. Always entertaining and playing games and making sure everyone is ok. They work so hard and really deserve the recognition for this. Thanks to all the entertainment team, you guys make this place what it is!!
Finally, I found the courage to share the horrible experience I had after making the unfortunate decision to get married at this hotel Bahía príncipe Esmeralda on the February 20th, 2026. It all started with the wedding planner, Noemi Suero, whose level of professionalism was extremely disappointing. Unfortunately, the problem wasn't limited to her. Every member of the wedding department I dealt with showed the same lack of organisation, communication and professionalism. No one seemed to take ownership or provide the level of service you would expect from a hotel that markets itself as a luxury wedding destination. Despite having several planning meetings, I ended up organising my own wedding because Noemi consistently failed to do her job. During every meeting, I had to ask her to write down the details we discussed so she wouldn't forget them. Unfortunately, even then, nothing was followed up, and by the next meeting she seemed completely lost. Since we live in Amsterdam and were getting married in the Dominican Republic, all our meetings were online. Almost every call began with greetings, followed by awkward silence because she had no updates, no questions and no plan. I had to drive every conversation myself, constantly asking about important details, yet I rarely received clear answers or any follow-up. It was incredibly stressful and frustrating. To make matters worse, I had to repeatedly chase her just to make the payment. Three days before the wedding, she still hadn't sent me the payment link. It was an absolute nightmare. I kept telling myself that perhaps everything would come together on the wedding day. Unfortunately, it got even worse. Because I had completely lost confidence in her, I created a detailed timeline and planning document myself, something that should have been her responsibility. It included every detail, every schedule and every important person involved. Yet, despite having this document, while my husband was standing at the altar waiting for me to walk in, she approached him to ask who the boutonniere was for. At that moment, it became painfully clear that she had not prepared for one of the most important days of our lives. The problems didn't stop there. After the ceremony, no one guided our guests to the cocktail hour. We had paid a significant amount for a premium open bar, canapés, snacks, personalised fans and sun hats, but most of our guests never knew these were for them because nobody told them. We spent a lot of money creating a beautiful experience, and much of it went completely unnoticed. During dinner, my sister, who doesn't eat meat, was simply told there was no alternative. The kitchen made no effort to prepare another dish, meaning she went without dinner at my wedding. I found that completely unacceptable. Three weeks before the wedding, I had also arranged, through Noemi, a birthday dinner reservation for two nights before the wedding. When we arrived, there was no reservation at all. She offered no solution or assistance, and because the hotel was almost fully booked, finding another restaurant that could accommodate my entire family became a huge problem. Ironically, Noemi constantly reminded everyone how important it was to be ready on time on the wedding day. Yet I was picked up more than 30 minutes later than the agreed time, causing unnecessary stress on what should have been one of the happiest moments of my life. Even our room was disappointing. We found broken glass on the floor, which was dangerous as we were barefoot. The wardrobe light stayed on all night, making it difficult to sleep. Someone came to fix it, but just two hours later it stopped working again. The only truly outstanding part of our entire wedding experience was the photographer Selena. She was an absolute star professional, organised, kind and incredibly talented. Pictures are stunning. She was, without question, the highlight of our wedding experience, and we will always be grateful to her. This was an extremely expensive wedding, yet the service we received was the exact opposite of what was promised. From the wedding planning team to the rest of the department, we experienced poor communication, lack of organisation, little accountability and almost no initiative to solve problems. Instead of enjoying one of the happiest moments of our lives, I spent months chasing people, organising everything myself and dealing with unnecessary stress. Looking back, I deeply regret choosing this hotel for our wedding, and I sincerely hope my experience helps other couples make a more informed decision before trusting this hotel with such an important occasion.
We were at the resort in early July 2026. The resort itself is enormous so it took us a little bit to figure out how to navigate the trams and everything else. We were part of a large group of 40 here for a wedding. Our group was made up of young children aged 6-9, teenagers, adults and seniors. Here's my honest review. Check in - Definitely use the app if you can. Those of us that did had a smooth experience. The app also allows you to book dinner reservations early (up to 10 days in advance) which is helpful as many reservations were taken when I checked again when we arrived at the hotel. For us, check in went well and our room requests were accommodated. Many from our group did have issues with their rooms upon arrival though. One of our room's safe was always closed and our other room's TV didn't work. Someone else's room didn't have a sheet on the bed etc. Regardless, everyone seemed to have to call housekeeping for some sort of issue. When they came, it was clear that a tip was expected to fix what should've been working in the first place. Rooms - The rooms were clean and spacious. We were in Villa 28 which were the renovated rooms. In case anyone was wondering, a family suite would've been enough space for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Oh... and a helpful tip would be to leave a note (and maybe a tip) if you want a particular drink in your fridge, and for housekeeping, to refill your toilet paper. Several of our rooms needed to call to get their roll replenished. Food - We dined at both buffets and our favorite was the one by the beach. The food was good, what you'd expect at a buffet which is a good thing. My favorite were the samosas at the entrance. A great way to start the morning! The servers offering coffee were accommodating especially when a lot of us decided to show up and put tables together. Thank you! I did find that the servers were kinder to those of us that tried to speak at least a few words of Spanish. There is also a beach food truck which is open basically when the buffets are closed. Their system is somewhat difficult. You order through the online kiosk there, then wait for your room number to be called. We're not super attuned to Spanish so trying to hear our number was difficult. They always yelled the numbers super fast and when they did it in English it was also hard to understand. We got better with practice, but just know to pay close attention when you order. For dinner we were able to make reservations at 3 restaurants. The Italian, Il Capriccio was our favorite though we had a really hard time finding it. There are no signs and when we were there the building was being renovated so none of the maps showed where it was. After asking several people we finally found out they were hosting it in the Greek restaurant which is by the beach, upstairs. We also did the Brazilian, Rodizio which was ok. It's not quite like a true Brazilian concept. The meat only comes around once (which was funny that they give you a card for the waiters to come or stop) so if you want something grab it when it comes. They didn't offer the grilled pineapple unless you asked. This was my sole reason for going so I was choked when the waiter said the rib eye was the last dish. Also, dessert wasn't offered even though it's on the menu. Make sure you ask if you want them to serve it. We also did the Asian restaurant, Takara which is actually located in Turquesa and were quite happy with the food. The service here was also wonderful. The beach - We found the water to be nice and refreshing. The sargassum varied day to day. They do their best to remove it in the morning and are able to minimize it. Just be aware that there's often more than they can handle and the overgrowth is not within their control. The pools - I found the pool by the beach very crowded but fun. They do a lot of entertainment there so if that's your vibe, definitely head there. The pool in the middle of the resort is quieter. The bar was fabulous and we found it easier to find empty beach chairs. The trams - There are so many carts that travel the roads it's hard to tell which ones were the trams at first. There are 3 lines that go up and down the resort. The ones you're looking for are L2 (by Ambar), L4 (middle of Explore) and L5 (I think?) for the one on the other side. Being at the Explore it was easy to take any of the 3. The drivers were always kind. You do have to ask to get off as they don't automatically stop unless you're going to the beach or the lobby. I learned the phrase "Para aqui por favor" which always worked when I wanted them to stop at my villa. The village - So much fun especially in the evening. They have the white party Monday nights so be prepared and bring something to wear! The entertainment crew puts in so much work and they do a great job. There's also a lot of shopping here and some are willing to barter. There's also a market that shows up one evening in the lobby where you can purchase souvenirs. The waterpark - It took us a while to locate this. You need to walk out past the lobby and it feels like you're leaving the resort but it's worth it. Our littles (aged 6-9) love love loved this park. Nearby there was also some minigolf and other things that kept the kids entertained. This resort is so big that there's lots to do for everyone. The renovations didn't really impact our stay except for the coffee shop, but that's a personal thing. They have little machines to make coffees but it didn't quite hit the spot. For those heading there soon, it's reopening as a Starbucks (that you'll need to pay for). Overall this stay was ok. Our group mostly had fun and the wedding was beautiful. There are a few things that the hotel can work on (such as having rooms in working order on check in). Learn at least a few phrases in Spanish and it seems to go a long way.
Dear corporate staff in charge. During July of 2026 my family of 11 members and I stayed in your resort (Bahia Principe ,Punta Cana. We paid for the accommodation in advance, but , upon arrival , the front desk agent( female agent) was unprofessional, rude, and treated us unfairly. 1- Charged extra fees for no reason. 2- Assigned rooms in different buildings 3- Two members were placed in a disable access room 4- Made the check in process painful. The staff at the pool were also rude. At the bar , their attention is more focused towards white clients. Many times, I was at the bar before others , when the barman attends to Europeans and white. The fast-food restaurant by the pool provides horrible services. As I asked the female behind the counter that my number was called out for pick up, she replied,’’ I have two hands, wait’’. I had to bite my tongue and walk I believe the service delivered by your company was unsatisfactory, and below the standard I would expect. I had the occasion to stay as RIU PALACE. Honestly, I prefer Riu Palace in Punta Cana, customer service exceeded my expectations. Not to ignore the good experience, other staff were pleasant and curious. Overall, I would say that 4 out 10 staff in your resort were professional and did their job as expected. The question is , would I recommend or go back to Bahia Principe ,Punta Cana? My response is more likely NO. .
Great hotel, our room was close by the lobby the noise usually dies down by 11pm. Some might find it a nuisance but it was fine. Service at la Isla food truck was horrible. I witnessed staff arguing with each other and storming off letting us there in limbo waiting for food. But my best highlight was eating at NOMAD Restaurant. Service there was immensely amazing. Katheryn from Flame apparently was there helping out for the night but her service was amazing. Miguel from Nomad as well gave us exceptional service, both took their time with us, truly appreciated it. (If your planning on booking take allot of OFF bug spray or you’ll be eaten alive )

Anthony and Deylin in entertainment at the pool are really friendly and are always smiling. They are good hairdressers too! 🤣
Very disappointing experience. The biggest problem was the staff—most employees were rude, dismissive, or acted as though guests were inconveniencing them, especially the train drivers (one even yelling at my wife). Communication was also difficult due to the limited English spoken by many staff members. Reception and concierge service was painfully slow, and getting help often required excessive waiting. The à la carte restaurants were good, but the buffet food and drinks were poor overall. To make matters worse, most buffet items were not labeled, forcing guests to guess what they were eating or skip them entirely. There are far better all-inclusive resorts for the price. I would not return.
People was nice and food was good
The bed was hard and the ac wasn’t woken properly
Maintained very nicely and it’s huge property with lot of resorts in one roof. All inclusive included breakfast lunch and dinner with good food and lot of options for all guests especially for meat lovers. Veggie options are limited , but can expect more from them. Coffee stations are all once the lobby and buffet that was / very good idea.Buggy train runs all over the entire resort picking and dropping guests to their rooms , beaches and restaurants . Had a very good time and especially kids would love this place with water pools all over the resorts
Small suggestion - Our place didn’t have a Kids water park , I think they should think over that part and make sure kids can be allowed and use the water park . Bahía Príncipe ticket holders didn’t have kids water park and couldn’t enter the water park , After paying very good amount for 5 day stay , I THOUGHT KIDS SHOULD DESERVE A WATER PARK .BUT POOLS ARE ALL OVER WITH KIDS FRIENDLY , POOLS ARE NOT DEEP KEEPING CHILDREN IN MIND , BUT WHEN GETS KIND OF BORED AFTER STAYING 5/6 DAYS , THEY WOULD LOVE TO ENTER THE WATER PARK AND HAVE THE FUN WITH WATER SLIDES AND PLUS SEEING LOT OF KIDS GIVES THEM HAPPINESS.
The wide variety of food! Amazing!! Pretty much everything in general The Flame restaurant was something out of this world!! Awesome

I had not been to this hotel in a few years, last trip here maybe 10 years ago with my daughter. I came this time with my hubby. We had a great time! Hotel has recently changed name and is doing construction, but for me that is a good sign. They are improving and updating! Everything ran very smoothly the whole trip. Check in was super fast we upgraded to one of the newer rooms, If you ask you can do the same. There was a lot of seaweed, unfortunately out of control nature! They did have trucks to clean on beach and made pathways so you could get to beach. A lot of places have this issue. To reserve resto's it's easy you go to computers in lobby and reserve. Food was good. I have no complaints, great value, clean and service was great. Check out, please remember to get a ticket at desk or you can't board bus to airport. One last thing, we called desk to get tram to go to lobby with our suit cases never came. Fantastic weather May 15 to May 22. Please go and have fun !
To far from beach. Rooms ok. Had to ask to refill refrigerator, towels, there were no face clothes had to ask for them. Value, guess you get what you pay for.
Very modern und clean rooms. Very nice staff. Food is decent. Not far from the airport.
There’s always a lot going on, not too quiet.

It’s a great place,service and food
From the start of our trip, this resort was horrible. We booked our trip through Booking.com in March and paid it in full. Not sure who is to blame here; but when we got to the resort they did not have our reservation. We stood in the lobby after our long travel day for over 2hours. We are lucky to have met up with another couple that speaks Spanish because the resort staff refused to speak with us. It’s as if they got annoyed trying to speak in our language. After 2hrs of going back and forth with them, we ended up having to pay for our entire stay again. We used our credit card. The staff then tried to say because it shows as pending on our side, it’s not actually paid for. Our friends spoke to them in Spanish and we finally got a key to our room. Once we got to our room, the key didn’t even work. The rooms are outdated and not very clean. Our bedding and towels had stains on them. The AC/fan only run when you are in the room—it’s on a motion sensor—so the room is always a bit warm. I have never interacted with such rude resort staff. No one was friendly. Everyone seemed irritated when asked a simple question. The food is honestly horrible. You will wait at the your table for 20+ minutes for a drink. The beach is full of seaweed and vendors trying to sell you stuff. The mini golf is on a concrete so it’s impossible to actually play. Everything is outrageously priced. If you run out of sunscreen or aloe be prepared to shell out $40. We will never return to Bahía Príncipe resort again. Spend your money elsewhere for a nicer resort with friendlier staff.
Was not sure if I was going to leave a review, but why not? We’ve been going to Punta Cana for over 20 years and this is by far the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed at. It started off by getting dropped off at the legend resort and then we were taken over on a trolly cart to the lobby of the Explore. When we arrived at the lobby, it was complete chaos. It is the smallest lobby I’ve ever seen. There was no coordination. We had had along day and there wasn’t even a welcome drink or any smiling faces. The hotel was bought by Hyatt and we heard later that a lot of the were upset so this all makes sense. We were given a swim out room and once we got there realized that the pool was facing a wall and on the other side ofthe wall was the major street inside the resort after complaining we removed to the other side of the building, which was still not the best, but it was better than the other room. The food was very salty. There was always the same food the restaurants were OK. The were not manicured. The General pool was gross. Check out my pictures. There was an apple core and drink accoutrements there for the whole week that were never cleaned. They had a party and the glasses and bottles were on the bar in the morning. The carpet was still dirty at 6am!! Just the whole vibe of the place was off. I would never recommend it. I told my Travel Agent don’t recommend it to anyone. Service was nonexistent even when you tipped them they didn’t even look at you like it was a big deal. It is a big deal. 8it was an $6800 vacation that was not worth $3500. If you wanna go to a great hotel go to the Catalonia. We should’ve went back for the fourth time stay away from this place. What a bust.
The service is not what it use to be. I've been to the Bahia Principe 6 times and honestly this time the staff are not friendly. The maids are only interested in tips and not pay attention to detail like making sure that she replaced the towels with fresh ones. 2 times I was left with no towels what so ever. Not even a face cloth was left in the room. Lucky for me i had taken 2 of my personal towels with me on this trip. The pop machines were always out of service at the last olas buffet. There always huge lineups at the pool bar and found that if you speak Spanish your chances are better to get served versus an English speaking individual. The pools were not cleaned daily. A few times I found plastic cups at bottom of pool .Renovations are being done on the bavaro side but perhaps they should try to reduce the number of people as its very crowded instead of renovating to bring more people. Will not be going back to this resort. Buffet at lobby very repetitive.
This is our 2nd time at this resort and we live everything about it and will definitely go back again soon
food is great as expected
staff at reception booked us his taxi for the night and cancelled the very last minute thru phone, and that after i called him 9 times as he is kept ignoring my calls and texts and he is not on-duty at reception desk that night.. had to find a new one, tho it didn't take long to get one, rather disappointing experience considering my high regard for the resort, reason why i went back with my friend and his family
Mala atención en los reataruant de playa. Nunca conseguíamos bebidas gaseosas y no tenía buena predisposición el personal. Poco amable
Comida boa, funcionários atenciosos
Nada a reclamar

My first all-inclusive experience, and I was a little worried. However, I couldn’t have been more delighted. My room was just lovely, the food was superb and could not be faulted with excellent choices every day . I chose to go to a smaller pool which was quiet., there were always beds available and towels . The shuttle surface up and down to the restaurants and beach was superb and worked perfectly.. the staff were exceptional and as helpful as possible. There was evening entertainment every night if you wished to join it. My only slight criticism, was that I found the à la carte restaurants acceptable but not as good as the buffet.
This is an excellent place to visit, guest services are great entertainment is outstanding and food is beyond expectations. Madeline is great with entertainment, all staff great with dining and the bar staff makes excellent drinks……….but you have to come and visit yourself

Firstly, this was our second stay at this hotel. You can book here and enjoy yourself. The weather here is fantastic and the beach is beautiful. The grounds are well kept and easy to get around. Ample shuttles if you need them. It was busy while we were here, but you can find places that are calm if that is your thing. Our room was recently renovated and very nice. Great AC, Ceiling fans and lots of lighting. Very clean and housekeeping services were good too. We paid 1600 CAN for our week, and feel good about the value. Not sure I would pay much more though. We brought teenagers with us and there was lots for them to do and see. They had a great time. Bars and restaurants were really nice. Staff were great, but not overly engaging. Went to the Nomad, the mongolian restaurant, and the staff there did the best job engaging our family. Kids loved it. Most of the main buffet staff were a bit dull and less interested in us and service. A big difference from our trip three years ago. Buffets were good. Lots of selection and variety. Only complaint is that they don't name anything. Tough if you have allergies or dietay restrictions. Staff at the pool bars were very fun. The smaller pool (the one not under renovation) was well staffed, and Ramon and Juan made kept no lines and were very friendly. The main pool near the beach is done well. lots of space so you can play and not be crowded. But, ...there is a huge shortage of shade around and in the pool. Especially in the pool. Most of our social time was spent in the pools and its tough if you are burning. Wave rider was fun - bit pricey, but kids had a blast. Things to consider - breakfast buffet by the beach. Not crowded - open air and nice view. We only found out about it day 5. Worth the walk.
Instalaciones.
We very much enjoyed our stay from April 14th to 21st, and even though rain was predicted on multiple days we only got sunshine. High was 29C. We have been going to Bahia Principe hotels since 2005, and this was our first time at the main Punta Cana hotel, and we have already decided to return in November to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. (Have stayed a number of times previously at Ambar, Aquamarine, and Esmeralda and truthfully we have enjoyed them all for different reasons. Package prices were very high when I booked this trip due to issues in Mexico and Cuba with so many booking Dominican Republic.) Both check-in and check-out went fast and smoothly. We took the ACV tour bus so was surprised that the reception counter had no line up whatsoever! Allocated a renovated Junior Suite Premium (sleeps 2 extra people on a roll our sofa) on the ground floor beside the main pool due to my husband’s heart health as he now gets winded going up stairs. Location was perfect for us. We had 2 bathrooms, 2 balconies, and lots of clothing storage. Room was super clean! Very nicely furnished rooms, lots of light switches, and convenient plugs beside the bed to recharge your electronics. (One of the switches in the bedroom’s bathroom right beside the makeup mirror activates under the counter strip lights. Use them at night and close the frosted glass sliding bathroom door. That was the best way to light the room slightly in case you had to get up during the night.) At night I wore light weight pants solely to cut down on mosquito bites and I had a pashmina to cover my arms. Make sure you pack mosquito repellant or you will be regretful! Bites become very itchy. We ate all our breakfasts and lunches at the beach house every day out on the patio. (In the morning you eat breakfast on the lower left side, and at lunch the lower right side.) A number of guests we talked to did not know about that option so they ate lunch at The Truck which was poolside, or they went up to the air conditioned buffet at the hotel lobby. You can eat food from The Truck poolside if you wish. We enjoyed our à la carte choices, food and service was ALWAYS very good! Anduelina took care of our room and she did a very good job. (If you want to leave anything behind for your room attendant like clothing, footwear, toiletries, or edibles then you MUST fill in a form otherwise employees will NOT be able to take these items through staff security at the end of their shift. Using Google translate ask your room attendant for the form to complete.) Majority of housekeeping staff do not speak English so remember that Google translate is your friend! If they are from Haiti you can communicate in French. If you like to swim laps then early morning is the best time as very few people in the pool then. Pool starts to get crowded about 3pm and the fun games start at 4pm. There is yoga and aqua fit in the morning. We enjoyed the saxophonist by the pool late one afternoon. Foam party as always was very popular and the pool really filled up! Fresh pineapple drink with or without alcohol is $5.00US and the lady operating the service gets 50 pineapples a day and sells out so don’t wait too late in the afternoon to get yours or you may be disappointed. (their are 3 self serve juice dispensers at the pool bar. One is called “Chinola” (also known as marcuya, which means passion fruit and it is delicious so make sure you try it!) Make sure to bring an extra bottle of sunscreen as it is very expensive to purchase at the resort. (Same goes for pool floats, bug repellant, beach toys, and “junk food”.) Bring a thermo/Bubba mug to keep your drink cold as ice melts very fast in the hotel’s small plastic cups. We walked slowing up to the lobby to have our dinner to get some exercise and that took us 11 minutes, and sometimes we took a trolly back at the end of the evening if we were too tired to walk. We also did a slow beach walk each morning, alternating which direction we walked. We do bring a bottle of water with us as there is nowhere to get water during the walk. Since this is the beginning of low season the beach was less crowded. Only 4 small things that we didn’t like was which most are fairly easy to remedy. #1 the competing TOO LOUD music at the main pool and The Truck or where ever else the music was coming from. No need for this. #2 unfortunately I was informed that you can not get a Negroni or Aperol Spritz at the hotel’s main bar or at a pool bar which I had been very much looking forward to but never got one so I just had sparkling wine. #3 it was impossible to break large denominations into smaller notes. Never saw a 50 peso note other than the one I had in my wallet from our last trip. This in our opinion means staff are really missing out on tips which isn’t fair to them. If you brought US currency then you were fine with $1.00US but for us Canadians who bring DR pesos as it’s more economical you will have an issue. (I typed out a Spanish message and showed our room attendant explaining the situation, and told her don’t worry we will make it up to you before we leave which we did.) We had a few 200 but mostly 500 and 1000 pesos on this trip. Where did all the 50 & 100 pesos go? #4 in the main buffet they take your napkin when clearing your dinner plate and if you need one when you come back to your table to eat your dessert you have to ask a waiter for a new one. They should always leave the napkin until you finish your complete meal. We would like to thank Alberto Figueroa Ceballos for overseeing our vacation. As always no matter which hotel he is working at he always takes good care of us. We have known him for at least 16 years and he is a true asset to the Bahia Hotel chain. See you again in November!
Overall we were impressed! 4 girls in our 20’s so not too difficult to please I suppose. However, upon arrival check-in was quick, rooms were clean. Only one incident of a cockroach in our doorway and this was an evening we left our drink cups in the room so it likely attracted it and the fact that people left food in the hallways (yuck!). Also tiny mosquitoes were biting especially at night and in the sand so bring bug spray. Otherwise, buffet was impressive surprisingly, just be mindful of what foods were sitting out (didn’t eat raw meats, lunch meats, or raw fish). The beach had sea grass (not the resort’s fault) so we mostly stuck to the pool. It was difficult to get chairs in the shade at the beach pool if you tried after 9am, but usually chairs in the sun always. The wifi cuts in and out at the pool/beach fyi. The bartenders can be hit or miss for getting their attention but all appreciate a tip for sure! We also weren’t made aware that the “disco”/club was closed for renos so that did kind of put a damper on the nightlife as their was only the lobby and the outside dance area in the village. Overall, cleanliness and food were about as good as could be given in the Dominican. Would probably go back to this resort!
Overall, this stay was disappointing compared to expectations. There was ongoing loud construction during our visit, and one of the buffets and large pools was closed, making the remaining pool areas very crowded. It was difficult to find pool chairs, and it felt frustrating to be paying full price while receiving fewer amenities. The room was a highlight—spacious, clean, and comfortable. The buffet was just okay, but the à la carte restaurants were excellent and definitely the best part of the dining experience. Additionally, our travel experience with WestJet was very poor, with the modified seating that felt extremely tight and uncomfortable. I would think twice before booking through WestJet Vacations again. Overall, the resort has potential, but construction, crowding, and reduced amenities made it feel like poor value for the price.
the check in was fast cause few arrivals. buffet lobby 1 is chaotic and too many people rude. beach crowded like sardines. room was nice and clean. staff was nice but beach bar less. train to go around grounds is not accomodate with children in arms very high step. los olas food not hot except when u arrive early get eggs prepared for breakfast. we could not book restaurants were fully booked very disapointed. the pool water not clear maybe need chlorine. toddler got a very bad virus high fever and spots very worried but got home to see doctor. recommend hotel if u like a lot of people.
Travelled April4-11, 2026 I would first like to start by saying I am shocked at all the negative reviews of this resort. I research where I am travelling to and read the reviews on trip advisor. We travelled as a group for a birthday celebration. Yes it’s a huge resort but if you research there should be no surprises! The golf carts are numerous and frequent!! Check in - took less than 10 mins!! And this was the same for our entire party. Room- awesome!! Our maid was amazing and our bar fridge was stocked daily! Our AC did leak onto the floor 2 days in a row and I only mention this because maintenance was there within 5 mins each time!! And we’re amazing with the cleanup. Love the armband doubling as our room access key (scan at door). Food- variety, learn where the food is!!! The truck was amazing, buffets were clean and had variety. Connect with Roberto!!!! He was awesome, held a table for us each night (11 people) remembered our orders!!! For drinks along with Gidilaty! Alacarts- We pre-booked 2, and yes the website tells you to prebook !!! If you wait till you get there they will be booked. The Nomad and Pools- yes busy!!! And yes people play the towel game, but what resort doesn’t! Get up your on vacation and reserve a chair! But if you do please use it. Santa at the pool bar was a delight to deal with. Lobby bar- always friendly Eddie and Juan!!! Bar tenders. Beach- beautiful, blue gorgeous sand you can walk for miles. It was the busiest beach I have been to, but enjoyed. No one expected a tip!!! If you engage with the staff and actually talk to them they are Luvly and have so many stories and really want to make your stay enjoyable.
Please don’t waste your money! I was there for a destination wedding which was held at Jellyfish Restaurant about half hour drive away. Only great part of the trip. But this Bahia was so depressing, staff are not friendly at all, meal times were chaos, bars were chaos, beach packed, lots of rude people. Pools were ok because there are so many of them lol. Just go somewhere else!
Bit by a raccoon. This resort is not good.
Firstly let’s start with the basics; the Bahia Grand is not a 5-star hotel, certainly not by Canadian/North American, and European standards; no South American/Caribbean hotels are in my humble opinion, they are all 4-star… and it is on that basis that I booked my holiday, pitched my expectations, and indeed the price itself also matched the 4-star level. So let’s start with the GOOD, well actually, I’ll start with the EXCELLENT; the staff, every single one of them. There are lots of them, in all departments, they are smartly dressed, attentive, courteous, efficient, and almost without exception are happy. Not the ‘forced smile, we have been instructed, false’ type of happiness, but it feels genuine, they constantly interact with each other, laughing and joking, while also getting on with the serious business of looking after the guests… and that creates a wonderful atmosphere for us holidaymakers. This phenomenon is, in my experience, quite rare, and behind the scenes it is the management (the invisible suits) that should be given some credit also for this success; well done to all of you, you deserve 11/10. FOOD (8/10). With a good variety of ‘specialist’ restaurants scattered around the grounds offering a variety of country/regional specific cuisines to tempt you away from the main restaurant (an allowance of 3 per week per booking), the food in general was very, very good. The range and quality of food in the main restaurant was quite superb, (breakfast, lunch, dinner), and varied from day to day, whilst still maintaining the staple basics we all expect; fries, pizza, burgers, ice cream! Of course, the inherent problems of maintaining large quantities of food on display in heated dishes cannot be avoided; warm temperatures, rather than hot, for a large proportion of the food. However, there were also plenty of ‘service chefs’ cooking very hot food to order while you waited; fish, pasta, omelettes, burgers, meats, etc.
Now however, let’s talk about the opposite end of the rainbow; …… the UGLY (1/10). THE BEACH is not just small, it is absolutely tiny! This hotel has 1428 rooms (Google) and in peak periods therefore, some 3000 guests are attempting to share an extremely limited number of available sunbeds. The first ‘reservation towels’ are already covering beach loungers by 4am (no, that isn’t a typo!) in the morning, and by 7am…. Forget it, you’re too late if you are just waking up! There are also 3 good size swimming pools on site, but a similar lack of sunbeds meant that more often than not, there are very few available by 8am (despite hotel signs prohibiting the reservation of sunbeds!). The situation is exacerbated by the uncontrolled issuing of ‘free’ beach towels, that do not require a financial deposit and are not recorded against your hotel room…. I watched many groups of guests who, with excess towels, reserved sunbeds both poolside and on the beach at the same time!! The pools have swim up bars, from which a good mix of music is played throughout the day, and usually at a reasonable volume. Poolside entertainment is provided of course, and was generally of good quality. ACCOMMODATION.. Sadly we experienced several maintenance issues; a water leak through the ceiling, a wandering toilet seat (a broken retaining bolt), and a light switch hanging free from the wall mounting. All of these should have been easy repairs, but without exception required many telephone calls over several days before being attended to. Within 24 hours, each of the problems reoccurred, and with the exception of the light switch which I repaired myself (!), were still requiring attention when we departed… I simply couldn’t be bothered to keep asking for the repairs every day!
It was good, they just need to add shows.
They didn’t do shows
Six wonderful weeks of relaxing, value-for-money vacation…. Or not? Firstly let’s start with the basics; the Bahia Grand is not a 5-star hotel, certainly not by Canadian/North American, and European standards; no South American/Caribbean hotels are in my humble opinion, they are all 4-star… and it is on that basis that I booked my holiday, pitched my expectations, and indeed the price itself also matched the 4-star level. ACCOMMODATION. We stayed in one of the older rooms, which was very much in need of an update, however I am not going to dwell on this subject. The hotel is currently rolling out a refurbishment programme (they came and measured up our room during our stay), and the daily servicing kept everything clean and topped-up. We also had the unexpected bonus of a bath, which disappears with the refurbished rooms! ENTERTAINMENT. Lots of it, and plenty of variety. If there is a complaint however, it is the habit of leaving the main reception area, and outdoor seating, in absolute silence with an empty stage, whenever there was an event occurring in the nearby arena. It appears to be a fairly blatant attempt to increase the main event viewing numbers, however it always then left very large numbers of guests in silence (not even some pre-recorded music for example) who chose to stay seated in the reception. OVERALL CONCLUSION. For 6 weeks we enjoyed the food, service, and the pools. However, the beach remained out of bounds to us. The thought of setting a 5am alarm to reserve our place on a beach that was packed like sardines on a daily basis was an absolute anathema to me! Was it good value for money? Yes, it was and worth an overall rating of 7/10.

We truly tried to make the best of our stay, but unfortunately this was one of the worst resort experiences we’ve had. From the moment we arrived, there were major cleanliness and maintenance issues. Our bathroom tub was covered in hair and filled with yellow water upon arrival, which was extremely concerning. There was also visible mold on the walls in the room. The air conditioning was another major issue — it had a very strong sulfur/rotten egg smell that at times made me feel physically ill. When maintenance came the first time, they simply sprayed something in the unit and left. The second time, I was able to see the filter, which was rusted and completely black. Instead of properly fixing it, the staff placed what appeared to be a coffee filter with coffee inside the vent to try to mask the smell. It was shocking and completely unacceptable. In addition, my mom’s room had repeated power outages, with electricity turning on and off throughout the stay. Service was equally disappointing. I spent approximately five hours at the front desk trying to resolve these issues, but it was very difficult to get consistent help or speak with a manager. Phone calls to the front desk went unanswered. The breaking point was at breakfast — after waiting 40 minutes for an omelette, there were no clean plates available. I was handed a used, dirty plate and my food was placed on it. Overall, the lack of cleanliness, poor maintenance, and failure to properly address serious health concerns made this an incredibly frustrating and unacceptable experience. I would not return or recommend this resort.
Upon arriving at Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana our first impressions of grandness were quickly overshadowed by the many disappointments that would soon follow. The check-in process was slow and painful, it took almost an hour. Not even 5 minutes after gaining access to our room, we needed to use the washroom…as one does after a long day of travel…only to find that the toilet didn’t flush. We called for maintenance to come and repair the toilet, which didn’t take too long for them to arrive and plunge the toilet to unclog the drain. He said that it was working, and then he left. We went to check to make sure it was working and found he had left toilet water all over the toilet seat and floor. I took some travel wipes and cleaned it myself. I then tried using the toilet, and again it would not flush. We had only been in our room 1/2 hour at this point and decided to march right back down to the front desk to ask for a better solution. Our inquiry was met initially with the manager telling us that ALL toilets in Dominican Republic are like this and we would just have to use the waste basket to discard toilet paper for the duration of the trip because the water pressure in the building was not strong enough to handle the disposal of the waste and toilet paper?!! We replied… that having travelled to DR more than half a dozen times, including a stay at another Bahia Principe Property, that we can say that was completely not true of ALL toilets in the DR! We went back and forth with this manager for a short time until he just walked away. No resolution. We were not going to take no for an answer and would certainly not spend the entire holiday using the waste basket for discarding used toilet paper, how unsanitary!! We would not leave the front desk and insisted on speaking to the general manager of the property or we would be cancelling our trip and going home with full refund. A young man (Vladimir) who eventually did get another manager to authorize moving us to another room (only upon our insistence and not leaving the front desk, we just stood there until they relented) helped to facilitate the exchange and eventually we did get moved to another room. He came with us to the new room to check if the toilet was functioning (which it was) before we packed up and moved our suitcases over. The room we were given had modern decor, was spacious, a comfortable bed, great access to the beach, a working AC and was kept very clean by the attendant (for incentive we left a tip each day) The rooms do get infested with mosquitos, I was eaten alive from head to toe while sleeping. Had to stuff a towel below the door where there is plenty of room for them to get in. Tried purchasing bug spray at the shop by the swimming pool at $31USD a bottle and encountered a whole episode with the charges (WAY over-charged with their exchange rate making the cost $91USD…. how is that even possible?) then had to enlist guest relations help with removing the charge from our account. But most importantly, the toilet functioned as a toilet should throughout the duration of our trip. The food, truly disappointing. The buffet is total chaos. It is quite literally “survival of the fittest” situation. Always a line up waiting to get in, up to half hour wait or more. People reaching, bumping, grabbing. Long line up for custom made hot food like the pasta station, which only seems to happen more easily if you tip. The rest of the food throughout buffet & restaurants is always barely lukewarm. Service is painfully slow. There are few labels indicating what the dish is. Much of the food is recycled from previous morning/lunch or the supper buffet. Saw the guy working the grill at the buffet reach into the bucked of raw chicken breast with his bare hands and put the chicken on the grill. With the same bare hand, he took the raw beef ribs and put them on the grill. Then with the same bare hand that had just touched the raw chicken and raw beef, he used the cooking utensil without washing his hand to serve the cooked meat. Saw a girl (not staff) in the self-serve ice cream, scoop some ice cream, lift it to her nose to smell it, it touched the tip of her nose, she then put the scoop back in the ice cream bucket! Yup! Saw a server (this was at The Greek Restaurant) take the cork out of a wine bottle with her teeth, pour a glass of wine for service and then put the cork back in the bottle! Saw another server (this was at the Brazilian Restaurant) slice off a piece of steak from a skewer, take it with his fingers and pop it in his mouth…..meanwhile we had been sitting for 1/2 hour and had not been served anything. While preparing my taco at the taco buffet in the Mexican Restaurant, I reached in to scoop some guacamole only to find the previous serving spoon at the bottom of the bowl submerged in the guacamole. Same thing with the sour cream and salsa…. which means that dozens of people who touched the handle of the serving spoons that were now submerged at the bottom, their germs were now fully integrated with the taco toppings! No wonder why myself, my husband and every other person got sick with a head cold and runny nose! Getting drinks at the beach bar…. plan to wait 20-30 minutes in line if they should decide to serve you at all. Only 2 guys working. Their policy - if they don’t look at you, they don’t see you standing right in front of them so technically you are not there. Then, serving people jumping the line ahead of you. I may have had two drinks the entire week because it was too much effort to even try to get one. Not much of a loss in the end because the quality of the drinks was poor. Generally, most of the staff I found to be unfriendly and dismissive, they look pretty miserable most of the time. There were far too many other incidents to count frankly…. but I think you get the point. Bavaro Beach is always amazing. The water was clean and beautiful, with sunny skies all week long. This week was exceptionally crowded do to the holiday (Easter) Keep in mind, you have 5 resorts on the same property using the same stretch of beach. However, the age-old problem of not enough sunbeds/parasols to go around and the “reserving” of these prime spots and then not showing up for hours and hours was pretty extreme this particular week. All these sunbeds/parasols were reserved by 6am each day! This resort has a “NO Reserving Sunbeds/Parasols” policy posted but it is not enforced by the staff, they could not care less. Many times, these reserved prime seats would sit empty until 2 or 3 in the afternoon, a couple times a family reserved 8 sunbeds/3 parasols then they never showed up the entire day. People (including us) who paid to also enjoy the facilities sat on towels on the sand while the reserved sunbeds/parasols sat unoccupied all day. There are always people who feel entitled in this way and it’s funny how a moment on a beach mirrors real life. Some people give, some people take. Travel teaches you more than geography, it teaches you character, yours and everyone else’s. The resort should empower their staff to remove towels from “reserved” sunbeds/parasols if the people don’t show up within a certain time period such as 45 min to 1 hour, enough time to get your breakfast and get your butt in the chair…. otherwise it goes to the next person. By mid-week we had had enough of the same people monopolizing the sunbeds/parasols and took it upon ourselves to remove towels from “reserved” unoccupied ones and occupy them ourselves. Of course, the people never came to claim them…. how could they? There is a “NO Reserve Policy” There needs to be a counter-movement to ”un- reserve” this overly abused trend. This is the first vacation we've taken (we’ve been to dozens of resorts in the Caribbean) where we were counting down the hours and days to come home. We won’t be back to this resort ever, or DR anytime soon. As this is already very, very long, and I've only touched on a few of the many issues, I’ll end with the only saving grace to this vacation…. the weather was amazing!
Beach and pools were great, transport buses are a nice touch. 45% of food was good. Lobby Cappuccino was great
I noticed Chinese telecom Giant Huawei used at the resort for wifi?? Illegal in the US and currently being thrown out of the EU for spying on citizens and stealing data WTF? Rooms poorly maintained, as if repaired by armatures? No less than 25 mosquitoes in our room throughout the day and night,, lots of bites...did not see any preventative measures like spraying, etc. TV never worked the whole time, Got BS responses, never any communication or followup. I think the TV with my signal has been broken for a year and they know and accept this. No discount offered. Front desk a mess, took 45 minutes + to check in. No training. they did not give adequate info on what services the resort offered Food could be very good at times, but many meal hours were disappointing. Poor cold selections, too much sliced meat, poor salads (more variety was needed) no sugar free drinks to be found anywhere at the Resort??, bar included. Many times hot items, meat etc looked old, fatty with Gristle and bone . It seems they were only cooking for Hispanics, bad attitudes by some service staff, Very little or no supervision, Constantly out of plates and cups, auto-coffee machine spits out garbage, one day all coffee machines were not working, understaffed it seems. Never saw the GM or F&B director. Poor entertainment offered. Cooks slicing cold cuts, no gloves just their hands...enough to get many sick. Luggage and transportation staff not providing licensed Cabs who only wanted cash at the airport. I'm sure they paid off the resort staff. The GM must know this is going on. Oh yes selling Mosquito spray for $30 to $40+ that did not work???? They must know this. I felt scammed most of the time. Property seemed dated to me. I understand Hyatt recently bought a 50% stake. Big mistake. I sent an email to the GM, never got a response...they must be laid back and on island time. Acceptance of mediocrity
Shocked by the bad reviews. Currently here, yes it's a large resort but surely you would have done your research before coming. Regular golf carts to ferry you around. We did have an older room which wasn't suitable, within an hour we were moved to a new upgraded room. Food hall is busy but there are times when it's a little quite, so go when suits you. Beach is beautiful. Pool entertainment team do an outstanding job, lots of things to keep all ages busy if you want to. Monkeyland is worth every penny. Having a great time, it's what you make it, so ignore the negative reviews.
TLDR: Hotel is unsafe for anyone with reduced mobility, obesity, or allergies. Staff service is disappointing, most of them seem miserable. The resort is poorly managed and barely maintained. Long version: The hotel is a dump and we had horrible service from the minute we stepped off the bus. Only two people were available to receive all the new arrivals off the bus. They took 2 of our 8 suitcases to a staging area and then left us to take the rest over ourselves. The staging area wasn't even a secure room, just a pile of bags on the stairs where anyone could help themselves to any bag whether they own it or not. AND it was exposed to the rain so my bag got wet. The hotel was absolutely not accessible. There were small steps everywhere that you had to navigate to get through the lobby and the buffet. No hand railings on most of the stairs which is dangerous for anyone with unstable balance. Even the few railings they had were wobbly and unsafe. There were ramps, but many were very steep and slippery. For some reason they had glossy floors in an open air building in a tropical climate where it rained nearly every day. The flooring made walking treacherous. Both my niece and my dad slipped on wet floors. **WARNING** to anyone with scent sensitivity, DO NOT GO HERE. They had a machine in the lobby continuously spraying this weird fruity perfume into the air. It's REALLY strong and gave me a headache while we were waiting to be checked in. Only 3 people were at the check-in counter when we arrived and two of them were standing behind the ugly fake palm tree display in the middle of the lobby so we couldn't see them. Even once we were finally speaking with someone, it took a solid hour to check in our group of 5 people. The man helping us kept wandering away. The woman at the desk helping get access to my room later in the afternoon was snarky when my mom got straight to the point asking for help instead of saying "good afternoon." Look, we'd been awake for 28 hours straight at that point. We were sweaty, smelly, and exhausted, and just wanted to get to our rooms. We didn't care about good afternoon. It hadn't BEEN a good afternoon and her snotty attitude made it worse. They didn't explain anything about the hotel during check in. No maps, no rules, no info about the trolley system or anything. They didn't even explain which areas we could go explore and which were member exclusive. The only info they gave us was of the buffet times. We later discovered that their app had a lot of useful information, but they didn't tell us about it. We found it on our own. And half the time it wouldn't load on our phones. Then after getting our room keys set up (which took around 30 minutes), we had to wait another 20 minutes for a trolley to come around to take us to our building. I ended up sitting on the ground because there aren't any chairs near the spot where the trolleys come to pick up the bags. Finally got access to our rooms. We're on the 2nd floor, and there are NO HAND RAILINGS going up the stairs. We had to lean awkwardly on the wall going up and down the stairs while praying we don't fall. No elevator available. And the open air design means the floor was wet and slippery from the rain. The bell hop let my parents into a room, which later they discovered was the WRONG ROOM after another bell hop was trying to help somebody else in! My room was the correct one (small victories!). Everything is dated and painted sad beige, but not awful. The TV won't turn on, though. And the safe was already locked so I couldn't open it. Had to put my valuables in my parents safe instead. My sister's room was in a completely different building. Her wrist band didn't work and none of the electrical outlets in her room were functional. She called for maintenance and a guy did show up, but he left soon after without fixing anything. She ended up having to rely on my portable power bank to charge her devices because she had no power. In the suite bathroom, there was a lovely large tub, but the only safety rail was on the back wall far out of my reach and the step into the tub was HUGE. Incredibly dangerous and all they had was a "slippery" sign on the wall. I had to cling to the glass divider and hope it didn't break while getting in and out. And the towels were stored on a shelf near the ceiling so I had to stand on my tip toes in the slippery tub to reach them. The buffet was absolute chaos during most meals. Way too many people going all over the place. No organization whatsoever. There's no clear flow of traffic and the dishes are placed haphazardly so people are going every different direction. There was no point waiting politely in a line for anything, people just went around you. Competing against other guests to get to the food seemed the norm. Also, most of the dishes at the buffet had no labels, so you're just guessing what it is. I accidentally put bbq sauce on my mashed potatoes thinking it was gravy. Good luck to anyone with any sort of allergy. Guest services was a joke. I went to the front desk to complain because the housekeeping hadn't been taking away my dirty towels and did not make my bed for three nights in a row. Housekeeping showed up with a huge arm full of clean towels at like 9PM. I never asked for more clean towels, I just wanted the dirty ones removed. Clearly they didn't understand what I was saying. And when she left, she only took 3 of the probably 7 dirty towels I had accumulated in my room. She left the rest sitting on the floor... My mom also called twice for an umbrella (none in the room...?) but nobody came. I enjoyed the magic show and the circus show was very funny. Oneiro was excellent, well worth the extra investment. The first quiet pool was nice and the staff at the swim up bar were excellent. Funny and friendly. The staff at the first pool were the best part of the trip honestly. The party pool over by the beach has awful flimsy chairs absolutely not suitable for fat people like me. And the staff at that bar were not friendly and VERY slow even when there was only 2 other guests at the swim up bar. They acted like it was inconvenient to ask them for a drink. We ended up returning to the quiet pool because the bar staff at the beach pool made us feel unwelcome. The train/trolley system was a god send because the resort is spread out over a large area. Being able to hop on the trolley made the space more accessible. But it apparently closes in the evening so I had to walk back to my room in the rain after the Oneiro show. I did see one trolley running but the driver said it was members only and he refused to give me a ride up the road even though he was already headed in the same direction and he had no other passengers. Also the trolley seats are pretty high up and they don't have running boards, so they can be a challenge for anyone with mobility limitations. It also would have been nice to have benches for people to rest between the buildings. I didn't see any benches between the villas other than the train stops. I'm an obese and being able to sit and rest a moment would have made it easier to navigate the resort, especially at night when the trolleys stop running.
Overall as many reviews have said, it's a huge resort. If you are looking for a quiet peaceful place, this is not for you. We stayed 14 nights. We always make the best we can do. We were in block 12 with a ground floor room. Close to one of the central pools. Even then we were up before 8am to reserve sun loungers and a shade. We went to the beach a few times after lunch when there were some beds available. We didn't bother getting up at 6am as we saw reviews were the beds and shades were all gone. There are two buffet restaurants. The main one in the Principe was very busy, but the other buffet called Bugambilia in the Bavaro was much quieter and also brighter (only open in the evening). We eat there most times. We had 6 other restaurant bookings. We found the Japanese and Italian to be the best. The Fish market was OK too. We learned on the first day that breakfast was less crowded at the Beach House Las Olas, so we ate there most mornings. The large pools near the beach were extremely crowded. The entertainment team worked their socks off to keep the guests busy with various games etc. The foam party was fun. The main issue was mosquitos. Remember to take some repellant as they get into the rooms. We saw a lot of people with very bad sun burns, some were so red, it must have been very uncomfortable. Of course there were many Spring Breakers in March and some of them were pretty loud after drinking. There were buses to help transport you around, because the resort is so big. The staff were mostly OK, English is not their first language. TIP: take plenty of $1 bills for tips. It helps. Also don't buy anything from the beach vendors. It was all mostly cheap crap. We also noticed there was a mafia style vendor cartel. We appreciate they have to make a living but it's the tourists that they are preying on!! For us, 3 stars was about right, overall average. We won't choose this resort again as it was far too over crowded. We booked with TUI. We never saw the hotel rep but then again we didn't really need him!
more HORRIBLE experience of my life.... service was HORRIBLE and the room was infected with bugs. If you want to go to a location you hate. this is the place.
