Huoneet olivat tosi kalliita.
We had a lovely stay at Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco Resort & Spa for my birthday. The setting is absolutely beautiful, the views are incredible and the hotel itself is very peaceful and relaxing. The staff were friendly and helpful, and overall we really enjoyed our time here. It’s a gorgeous place to escape to and would be perfect if you’re looking to spend most of your time at the resort. There are just a couple of things we would have liked to have known before booking. Unfortunately, there was a wedding taking place during our stay, which meant that some areas of the hotel were closed off and the lobby and surrounding areas were quite loud and busy at times. We had booked the trip as a relaxing birthday break away from our children and busy lifestyle, so this was a little disappointing. The main dining area was also closed for the private function, meaning breakfast was served in a much smaller side room. We had read great reviews about the breakfast, so were disappointed that the choice was quite limited during our stay, with no toaster, limited bread and not much hot food available. The other BIG piece of advice we would give is hire a car if you possibly can! We had assumed we could get around fairly easily using taxis and public transport, as we wanted to explore Barga and Lucca. However, taxis are extremely expensive. It was around €90 each way to Lucca, and we were quoted around €140–€200 each way to Pisa Airport. The local buses were also quite difficult to rely on, with services sometimes only every couple of hours, and on one occasion a bus simply didn’t turn up. We ended up spending over £400 just getting around, which was a huge shock and something we hadn’t budgeted for. If you’re planning on staying mainly at the hotel and enjoying the facilities, this isn’t something you need to worry about. But if, like us, you want to explore the surrounding area, definitely consider hiring a car. Despite these points, we did have a lovely trip and would recommend the hotel. The location and views really are stunning, and it’s a beautiful place to relax and unwind. Just arrive prepared for the transport costs and check whether any private events are taking place during your stay!
Such a beautiful location! What made this hotel exceptional were the staff. They couldn’t do enough to help and were so friendly and kind. Highly recommend this hotel.
Tutto ul personale è all'altezza dell'hotel.

Staff gentilissimo e atmosfera rilassante
I have been coming to this hotel for about twenty years., and the reason I keep coming back is not the beautiful views of Barga and the Garfagnana mountains, or the comfortable rooms and great spa facilities, but it is the staff. They are so friendly and helpful. Same faces every year and they treat you like family.
Location
Dreadful restaurant. Poor service. There is not enough personnel. The restaurant food is dreadful … which is a real disgrace in Italy. Even a plate of simple pasta with tomato sauce is beyond the capacities of the kitchen.
The Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco is undeniably beautiful. The scenery alone is breathtaking, and it's easy to understand why it was chosen as a wedding venue. Unfortunately, the experience beyond the landscape left much to be desired, and I feel compelled to share an honest account for future guests. For context, we are Marriott Gold status. We attended a wedding here and stayed for three nights. During our visit, the hotel appeared to be hosting not only the large wedding party but multiple overlapping conferences simultaneously. Whether this was a contributing factor or not, the strain on service was evident throughout. Housekeeping was our most persistent frustration. Despite making a deliberate effort to keep our room tidy and accessible, housekeeping never fully serviced our room on any of the three days we stayed. The bed was made and towels were replaced, but that was the extent of it. Amenities were not restocked, used dishes were left untouched, and the room/bathroom were never properly cleaned or reset. I personally visited the front desk on two consecutive days to raise this concern. Both attendants were assured me the issue would be addressed. It never was. On the second occasion, the response amounted to little more than an offer to call housekeeping again (this, the evening before checkout). The suggestion, delivered somewhat dismissively, was impractical and reflected a broader pattern of lip service over resolution. I was genuinely stunned at the lack of care and attention, as I had experienced only great service from other hotels in Italy. The food was equally disappointing. We had come directly from extended stays in Milan (Park Hyatt) and Lake Como (Hilton Lake Como), where both the cuisine and hospitality were outstanding. We genuinely hoped to end our Italy trip on an even higher note. Instead, the dining experience here was easily the weakest of our entire vacation; not simply by comparison, but in its own right. For a resort of this caliber and price point, the quality fell exceedingly short of expectations. To be fair, the majority of staff carried themselves with warmth and a friendly demeanor, and that does not go unnoticed. But friendliness without follow-through only goes so far. It is clear that this property has a great deal of potential. The setting is genuinely spectacular. But a beautiful view cannot substitute for the fundamentals of hospitality. When a hotel and more importantly, its guests, invest significantly in an experience, the expectation is not perfection, but attentiveness and care. On this visit, that standard was not met. I sincerely hope management takes guest feedback seriously, because this resort deserves better than coasting on its scenery.
Exceptional location, staff and amenities. Everything was beautiful. Breakfast was unbelievable.
Nothing
I just want to thank the staff at the restaurant especially Mohamed Ali, Davide, Jocelyn, Mihaela. They were very friendly and accommodating all our questions and special dietary requests. Also, they were very fun! Can’t thank them enough.
Outstanding! We didn't want to leave. The hotel is perched nicely above the small village of Barga and offers wonderful views of the local countryside below. I was impressed with our room (303); well-appointed, ample space and a balcony to enjoy a glass of Tuscan Red while enjoying the above-mentioned views. I always believe that good views, good location and good character are important in a quality hotel although what really makes an elite hotel is the hotel team. This team is 5*+. Everyone we came in contact with were friendly, professional and what we liked most - they showed their individual personalities. We were very impressed overall and thank them for their warm hospitality. Looking for the perfect place? You just found it.
Might be one the most incredible places in Tuscany from an intimate, scenery and Italian luxury point of view. Breakfast on the terrace overlooking valley plus many great activities in Barga nearby.
The location is extremely beautiful, with vast panoramic views, at the time of our visit early May 2026, distant snow topped ranges were visible. A €20 taxis ride to Barga, sees you at the local station for trip to Pisa and Lucca around 45mins away. For a few euros rather than €100 for a taxi and you get to see more countryside. We booked an accessible room as I use a wheelchair, unfortunately on one day the service lift was broken and the smaller lift are tiny. Had to fold my chair ( then only just big enough.) The room is adequate with small folding screen cubicle in shower. It's supposed to be four and a half star rating, I personally think that's stretching it. I think the staff make up most of those awarded. The reception staff are without question exceptional, as are the waiting and porter staff, John in particular. For a nearly 5 star rating, parts are worn and tired. Backs of dining chairs are rubbed and scuffed, cutlery is very worn, at breakfast on a few days there were no china cups but paper cups only, cutlery wasn't sharp, you couldn't cut a peach at breakfast, we had half board the food was OK but lacked vegetables. It's a Marriot hotel, and one of the American bosses was there at the time of our visit, they were polishing coal as they used to say. But it is tired. Worth the money? Beware all the extras. Would I stay again, I don't think so. We were only on a short break (4 days)
Beautiful location at the top of a hill. Breathtaking views!
High prices at the restaurant.
First the Positive : Great location Good modern rooms with excellent views Clean Negative: Service Check in at 17.15 staff recommend to book in hotel restaurant (20 mins from nearest restaurant) Book 30 mins later for 21.00 and told all is full despite hotel is far from full but due to non hotel bookings. Why do we book a remote hotel with restaurant to drive 45 mins to have Dinner ??? Zero will to accommodate dinner for ONE person! Check out time at 10 AM !! Better not sleep in while on holiday as you will be kicked out of bed!! Does not comply with 3 star conditions: No fridge in room but in public entry, No room phone, No desk Bathroom window straight to exterior passage with no curtain or frosted glass so nice sharing. IN SHORT NICE FACILITIES BUT WHAT IS THAT WORTH IF YOU CANT HAVE DINNER BUT LOTS OF POOR SERVICE.
Molto curato pulito
Amazing staff and amazing views!
Nothing.
Nice place, beautiful surroundings, nice decoration. Excelent resturant and breakfast,
The spa was not available even though there were a few guests. The normal lack of maintenance in Italy
La pulizia e lo staff molto attento
Leggermente troppo caro
Bellissima struttura, personale disponibile, ottimi i servizi. Consiglierei
Spectacular hotel resort! Luxury from the minute you enter this beautiful resort. Staff are amazing, spa treatments incredible, food is delicious and rooms are stunning. This was our 5th stay in this amazing resort. We will be back.
What a lovely experience at this resort. Hotel is incredibly beautiful, the staff is amazing and my spa treatment was the best I’ve ever had. Food and beverage service is top notch and was thoroughly enjoyed by our group of four. Grazie Mille❤️.
Stunning location. Very comfortable beds. Very good on site restaurant with reasonnable prices.
We arrived in a rainy period but were so warmly welcomed. We were so happy with the room and the understated elegance of the whole hotel. Every member of staff goes out of the way to be polite and helpful. The location being up high gives such breath taking views. We only had B&B, but the breakfast selection was vast and of excellent quality. Everything about the hotel says luxury hotel. As it was raining quite heavily we were stuck in, but were able to use the amazing pool and spa facilities - steam & sauna. We also used the most well equipped large gym I have ever seen in a hotel. Like other reviewers here, I was a little reticent due to some bad reviews, but I am a seasoned traveller and I am unable to fathom how anyone could come away from here with a bad opinion. It's an amazing grand hotel of 5 star quality. Thank you to all the staff from the reception, the restaurant, the bar, the maids and the lovely room service boy. The staff are a credit to this very cool, grand old hotel! Thank you!
First and foremost we had a great break. What made it most were the staff. Particularly the staff in the restaurant, such as Davide. Really looked after us and made us feel special. They really try hard and the Italian warmth shines through. The hotel does need updating and the room and bathroom were tired. The cleaning staff focus on the basics like towels and making the bed, but dusting and vacuuming doesn’t really happen. The vent in the bathroom was completely full of dust. As we’re all the surface tops. But to be honest, I didn’t care. The views are amazing and you just feel well treated by the staff. Food was also very good. You really need a car as there is nothing nearby to get any provisions. So you could feel isolated and it can be very expensive if you just rely on what is onsite. A separate shop on site would be ideal. I’d definitely go again,
The hotel is located near Barga in Garfagnana, a very beautiful and less crowded part of Tuscany. The surroundings are truly stunning. The restaurants (outside the hotel) are great. However, the hotel itself was somewhat underwhelming. The rooms felt rather small. The outdoor pool is lovely but opens a bit late in the day. Unfortunately, the spa was quite disappointing. On top of the room rate, there’s a resort fee charged even if you don’t use the spa facilities. Understood that it is a resort but the total charge didn't feel justified. Overall, the hotel services fell short of expectations, and the front desk staff were not very helpful (for example when asked to book a restaurant). To conclude, there is room for improvement in such a nice setting!
We were here for a wedding the setting was beautiful. The gym was good.
The property is tired and the room was very small for the charge we paid. There is an infestation of flys all around the hotel. In our rooms there were 10. We asked to be moved but they only provided a reasonable room for the last day of our trip. The staff in reception were not helpful. Overall an expensive hotel with poor facilities

To explore the northern part of Tuscany and to have a resort to relax & rejuvenate, this hotel is a very good option. It is located about an hour from Lucca and easy to reach by car (onsite parking is free of charge). The outdoor pool area is nice, with extensive views of the valley. If you like to have a swim before breakfast, you will the need to use the indoor pool (the outdoor pool opens at 9.30 am). Both pools are half Olympic and the pool areas are well maintained and very clean. This also refers to the hotel overall. The biggest plus is the quality of the cuisine as well as the friendliness of the staff in the restaurant. I enjoyed all three dinners; special thanks to Alessia and Joseline. There is one point you need to be aware of when choosing your room category: I booked an executive room (which is the third highest room category). Nevertheless the room was basically facing a wall, making the room very dark. You couldn’t sleep with the door open or spend some time on the balcony, cause there was a constant noise from the ventilation system which was located on the side of the hotel the room is facing. When I asked to change the room after check in (offering to pay for an upgrade), the three members of the staff at the reception on the evening of my arrival were very helpful. They tried to find a solution and explained that they were just waiting for the approval from the manager on duty. Well to cut a long a story short, during my whole stay I never received a final answer to my request - every time I asked at the reception I was told that the request was still pending with the approval of the manager.
We had a very pleasant 5 nights in August. The hotel is not new but rooms are refurbished. Very good quality matrasses and bed linen. Rooms are very big and quiet. The staff in the hotel are phenomenal. Everyone in the hotel including reception staff, waitresses and pool workers very attentive and helpful. the views from the pool are amazing. Especially want to highlight Serena, our waitress who made our dinners a pleasant fun. Happy to come back there any time.
I had an issue with my car in a remote location in the mountains, the hotel staff arranged a taxi and auto mechanic to fix my very exotic vintage vehicle.. Incredible effort on their part, much appreciated from our side!
Tutto perfetto: luogo, ambiente, personale. Camere luminose e pulite.
A Marriot hotel set in a beautiful hilltop with stunning views of the valley below. Amenities are outstanding. Rooms are finished to a high standard with balcony/terrace to relax on anytime.
Personale gentilissimo
Prezzo eccessivo
We expected an authentic Tuscan experience to end our Italy trip, but unfortunately this hotel did not deliver. The property feels more like an average American-style hotel with a pool, rather than a true Italian stay. While the views are beautiful, the overall experience was underwhelming for the price. Breakfast is nothing special — basic buffet and self-service machine coffee. Without a car you are completely stuck: the only activities are a very overpriced cooking class (€250 per person) or a challenging hike into Barga. A taxi to town costs €20 each way, which feels excessive. We left disappointed, as this was not the Tuscany experience we had hoped for. Positives: the staff were kind, the views are beautiful, and the rooms are spacious.
Beautiful location, great room, good breakfast and helpful staff.
What an amazing location for such a beautiful hotel. The views are so picturesque and peaceful. Lovely rooms with great food. Spend 4 nights there for my daughter’s surprise birthday. Staff are very accommodating. I would definitely recommend this stunning hotel although where it’s situated you need to have a car, unless you are happy to chill by the pool or spa. Thank you to all that made our stay very welcoming and pleasurable.
The only reason I didn’t rate it 5/5 is because of the distance from bigger cities, it’s not easy to traverse the terrain (if you drive expect lots of switch backs) however, the views and setting are stunning! The hotel is a little tired, meaning they could use a little facelift but our room was quite nice, comfy bed, and very clean. A few shout outs to the staff, Manuel (extremely friendly and provided personal driver info who we used to take a group of 5 and a dog to a winery and quick dinner in Lucca that we felt was accommodating and well worth it) and another front desk gentlemen who checked us in that was super friendly but I can’t recall his name (sorry). Other staff shout outs, Lorenzo and Emanuel, who have customer service skills down to a T! We truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider a return trip!
Outstanding from the hotel service to the fairytale views. We had a wonderful stay in our balcony room. The resort staff Lorenzo, Alice and Guilio were truly customer focused outstanding employees and made our stay extra special the 6 days we started there. Guilio suggested the winery tour at Concori and it was so delightful along with the pasta making class. Thanks Guilio!
Hotel is located in a beautiful location. Staff are super helpful and friendly. The wellness area and the spa are nice but could use some updating.
Our shower made a noise when the water was running. It was also a little rundown. The major thing that we didn't like was the breakfast and the food at the restaurant. For a hotel at this level and considering the fact that there is not much else in the area as far as restaurants, we expected a better quality of food. It was clear that they were not using fresh ingredients which is shocking for Italy where there is an abundance of fresh vegetables, etc.
O restaurante é de excelente qualidade.
Estava tudo ótimo
We spend 2 nights at this wonderful hotel. Every thing was more than perfect. From the check in with Lionel till our check out through our dinner at the bar been served by Denis with his excellent suggestion for the main course and the wine. Breakfast service was excellent. Housekeeping team did a great job looking to the details. Lovely swimming pool and Panasonic view from our room. Thanks to all the staff for their professional and the friendly service. Thanks to Lionel, Denis and all the staff hotel. We will back again for sure
Struttura molto bene pulita e accogliente.
