This is my fourth time here and I always love coming back! The beach bar has been renovated and looks absolutely stunning. The food is even better this year – a real delight! I especially want to praise the staff: everyone is fantastic, always friendly, helpful, and truly dedicated. I always feel welcomed here. The hotel garden is beautiful and the location is perfect – restaurants and supermarkets are just nearby. Everything is within easy reach, yet the atmosphere remains calm and relaxing. Thank you once again for another wonderful experience! I will definitely be back ❤️
We travelled in October for 1 week on all inclusive board, 2 famillies with 2 teenagers. All inclusive beverages very limited choices, local alcoholic drinks ouzo, raki, one type of brandy, wine and beer. No other spirit drinks for cocktails unless you pay extra. The rooms have basic comfort, definitely not 4*, additionally you need to pay for pool towels on daily basis €2.5 /towel, if you should need to change towels extra fee applies. There is a beach near by, but the hotel charges will apply on daily basis for sunbeds and umbrellas, €3/sunbed /day in out of season. Food reasonable good but limited on choices, swimming pools very small with limited sunbeds, beach unkempt, dirty and several risks of hazards if travel with small children. Overall, this hotel is mainly for elderly people with minimal requests and basic services. Read hotel description and be aware of city tax that you might be charged upon arrival, that is not mandatory, otherwise should have been included in the package price. Only good reviews can be attributed to the staff, they are very friendly, polite and helpful.
We arrived early in the morning and, although the check-in officially starts at 3 PM, we were kindly offered a temporary family room. This was a very thoughtful gesture from the hotel, as it allowed us to rest after the trip and compare different room standards. The family room was extremely spacious, consisting of two separate bedrooms, two toilets and one shower. From the very first moment, we noticed how clean it was. Later, after the room exchange, we also received a large double room with a beautiful sea view. Even though the hotel is not labeled as “luxury,” the staff does everything to make guests feel like they are staying in one. The cuisine truly deserves a special highlight! The food is absolutely delicious, fresh, minimally processed and full of natural flavor. I have never eaten so well and so healthily in a hotel before. Huge compliments to the chef – he is outstanding! Sometimes you may need to wait a short while to get a table, especially during peak times, but this was never a problem for us. The staff has been working here for many years, which creates a warm, family-like atmosphere. The bar service is also excellent – great drinks and amazing people. Special greetings to Dimitris! 🍹 The hotel is surrounded by lots of greenery and offers peaceful spots to relax. It also makes a perfect base for exploring nearby attractions. In conclusion: Jo An Beach is a place where you can truly rest and feel special. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!
Great hotel with a great restaurant and a pool bar. The hotel is located by the beach, which is excellent for us. The staff is helpful, kind and friendly. We recommend it!!!
Well organised and clean rooms. The food was warm, tasty, variety and always enough. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The hotel is situated on a private beach with pebbles and flat rocks, so swimming shoes are recommended. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for an additional charge. The staff at the reception, restaurant, and bar are very friendly and polite. The food is varied and delicious. The rooms are simple but clean. A bus stop to Rethymno is located close to the hotel. There is almost no animation, except for one Greek evening per week, which was not a problem for us — we preferred walking along the beach or playing board games. We enjoyed our stay at Jo A Beach Hotel, thank you!
Hotel is clean and tidy. Staff was kind and friendly. Restaurant is fantastic, food was delicious and offer was large. Chef is kind and friendly. We enjoyed our stay, I would recommend
Our son is allergic for gluten. The service in the restaurant for explaining and ordering glutenfree food was excellent. Also was someone to help with requests about allergic food in the restaurant at every meal.
Hotel was amazing and so was the sea, however its not really kids friendly couse of the huge waves. Highly recomend swimming shoes. Both of the pooly were warm and very fine allthough if you wanted to have sunbed by the pool you had to wake up early. You can also buy the sunbeds on beach or take a towel. The food was Amazing and so was the chef who was always ready to help me as I am gluten free. There was always food to choose from and if not, he prepared me pizza or pasta of some kind. Big Thanks to him and the staff. Hotel is gluten free friendly.
We had a fantastic stay at Jo An Beach! You can't beat the direct beach access, and the fact that it's ideal for smaller kids made our trip so relaxing. With two great pools and delicious food, there was always something tasty to enjoy. What really made our vacation, though, was the super nice staff – they were always friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Highly recommend!
I don't know why there are so many bad reviews. The walls might be a bit thin, but I love the old-fashioned feel. You can see that in the online pictures, so it's your own fault. The hotel is the best we've stayed in so far, and we've only had good hotels in Greece. Plan on spending around €30-40 (round trip) for the trip into town (as a family) for a 10-day stay. Extremely nice and friendly staff, as well as incredibly good service. Huge praise goes to: -Kristalenia - Aga. Further praise goes to: -Dimitris -Manolis -Dimitra - Head Chef. These are by far the friendliest, most accommodating, and nicest staff I've met in my eight times in Greece. We'll definitely be back.
We have been to this resort for the second time and both times it has been fantastic. The rooms are very nice and serviced everyday. The breakfast staff and bar staff are a real credit to the resort and always make one feel welcome, great service. The food seemed to be better than last year and I give the Executive Chef, Fortis Liapis many praises for the variety of different dishes every day. The only down side I would mention is the size of the breakfast and dinner room which could be bigger to accommodate all the hotel guests. The new seafront bar area is also a great plus and is really well run by the friendly barman Dimitri. Of course the great weather and this very good resort on the beach makes a very memorable stay and we will certainly return a 3rd time soon. Cheers John and Family.
Good beach hotel, adequate quality, but nothing exceptional except the kitchen. The food was really good and wide choice. We loved the chef Fotis liapis.
The room and the bathroom is max 2 star but the food is 9/10. I don't coming back here, never again!!!..........................
Extremely disappointing experience – not a 4-star hotel This hotel was a major letdown. While a few staff members were polite, overall there was a serious lack of personnel for the number of guests. Only one out of three restaurants was open during peak season, resulting in long lines and long waits for a table. The restaurant staff was often unfriendly and showed clear favoritism, which made the atmosphere unpleasant. Our room was missing basic items like toilet paper and towels, and we had to collect them from the reception. Housekeeping and laundry services were clearly overwhelmed. The room itself was outdated, with a moldy shower and unreliable hot water. The beach is unsafe, with hidden concrete blocks in the water – definitely not suitable for children. Despite being advertised as family-friendly, there was no real entertainment or activities for kids. While the pools and beach bar are newly built, capacity does not match the number of guests. In the evenings, waiting up to an hour for a drink was normal. Even under the all-inclusive plan, guests had to pay extra for bottled water, beach towels, and sunbeds, which were also limited. This hotel does not deserve its 4-star rating, and I unfortunately cannot recommend it. I’ve never been so disappointed with a hotel stay.
The food was genuinely delicious — far better than we expected from a hotel buffet! We know that hotel food in Greece isn’t always the highlight of the stay, but here it really stood out. Thanks to Chef Fotis, the buffet meals were consistently tasty, fresh, and well-prepared. You can really see his skill and passion in the way the dishes were made. If the hotel keeps Chef Fotis, we’d gladly choose the all-inclusive option again — which we usually avoid elsewhere. The hotel also has a great location, right by the sea, with direct access to the beach. The air conditioning in every room worked perfectly, which was a big plus during the hot days. The staff were very friendly and responsive throughout our stay.
Super friendly staff who are quick to respond and solve any issue, right next to the beach with direct access, right in the center of the resort, and the best, most varied food I’ve ever had. The food is absolutely delicious!
Excellent food, very delicious buffet dinner, various main dishes, fresh fruits every day. No matter if you arrive late. Thanks to Mr Fotis Liapis, executive chef & staff.
Super thankful for the EX Chef Folis Liapis at the restaurant. He really took care of my gluten intolerant daughter all week by serving her supper good food. It’s a pleasure to meet a chef like that. The rest of the family was also very happy and thankful for a super holiday at the hotel.
Perfect place, location , friendly stuff, fresh and various food. Close to the bus stop and little boutiques. They are cleaning everyday, so you have clean rooms after your beach stay. I was enjoying fresh and healthy food. Plenty of choise.
We had a wonderful time at this hotel. The location is excellent – peaceful and safe, yet just a short bus ride away from Rethymno. The staff were incredibly friendly and genuinely caring, both at the hotel and at the beach bar, which made us feel truly welcome. The food was delicious and varied, offering something for every taste. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a beautiful sea view that we never got tired of. The hotel garden was especially memorable – like something out of a fairytale, full of flowers and little paths to explore. All in all, a beautiful place to relax and recharge. We would definitely love to come back. This was my third time staying at this hotel – and I’m already planning to return again. That probably says more than anything else.
А good hotel with excellent cuisine. The chef is clearly a master of his craft. quite clean and well-maintained hotel, one minute to the sea. There is transport connection. If there is an opportunity, I will definitely come back here again.
Beautiful hotel in a quiet part of Rethymn, far away from the center. Beach is a part of hotel. Clean rooms. And I would like to highlight the food prepared by Ex-chef Folis Liapis. It is a symphony of tastes and colors - a bar of salades, main foods with various attachements, appetizers and 3 tables of desserts, each evening different offers. It's so tasty! But it is not possible to taste everything.
Jo-An Beach Hotel exceeded our expectations with its comfort, excellent service, and stunning location near the beach. The reception team was very welcoming, and the pool provided a relaxing retreat. A highlight of our stay was the exceptional cuisine —Chef Fotis truly showcased his culinary mastery, offering a diverse selection of dishes from Western European and Mediterranean flavors to Eastern and Asian creations. Every meal was a delightful surprise. The hospitality of the restaurant staff added to the experience, making us feel valued throughout our stay (special thanks to Rima). We highly recommend this hotel and look forward to returning!
The beds were so hard it was like sleeping in the floor. The hotel had one bar only which meant having to walk to the bar from the beach then having to wait a long time for a drink as there was only ever one Barman serving. The dinner hall was always chaos. Tiny and ques. The food was terrible. Same every single day breakfast was raw eggs with water in , salad and fruit and small juice, dinner was spaghetti bolognaise for the whole week with chicken or salad and soup and evening meal salad , fruit soup and again spaghetti bolognaise or chicken legs 🙈 drink were flat beer and 5 cocktails. The hotel has no entertainment so if you’re under 50 I’d avoid this hotel. The hotel doesn’t even help all the old people up the stairs with their luggage. My partner carried an old lady’s case up stairs as no one was lose does.
Such a disappointment.. worst holiday EVER… how did they get 4 stars?????? This is 2-3 at max 🙈 We were 4 adults (2 elderly) and 2 kids. The hotel has officially confirmed that they are accessible and that was farther from the truth. The ramps are dangerously steep even for people without mobility issues (16-18 degrees instead of 6-10 permitted). The room welcomed with two great steps. “Accessible” shower had a step as well, no holding bars, no seat… if you are unfortunate to travel with people with mobility issues, this is definitely a no-go.. But even for healthy people, the hotel is not worth the money. Terribly old, the pools are just puddles, the food is terrible. They clean the rooms with chlorinated water - it stinks the whole day after that. The staff is unfriendly. The sea itself is nice, but the umbrellas are too few and not for free. The umbrellas at the pool are way too few. One cannot even sit anywhere to look after the kids. Waiting lines for breakfast and dinner are guaranteed. NEVER AGAIN!! It is the worst holiday we’ve ever had and the place has little to do with friendly welcoming Greece as we know it. Keep out, don’t fall into the trap.
Where to start with this hotel? Meant to be 4*, must be joking 😄 It's 2*at best. I would rather have stayed in a hostel than this place. Think faulty towers and you're halfway there. We got conned out of staying at the Minos mare and stuck here instead. Must be my worst hotel stay yet. Better hotels for less money. Tiny dated rooms even smaller bathrooms. Cleaners were very hit or miss, sometimes just doing the minimum required, I don't think our floor was swept all week. All inclusive food was just about bearable and drinks were very limited in variety, the dining room was tiny and most meal times you had to queue outside on the steps waiting for people to finish which when you are eating, makes you feel rushed Dimitrus was the saving grace, always has a smile and a fist bump for you with a fast service at the pool bar. Very few sunbeds near pool so you have to use the ones on the beach which they then charge for even if you are all inclusive. Their private beach was unkempt with a dangerously high Stepdown onto slats the moved when you applied your weight. I noted a broken bodyboard and litter which was there on the beach for 5 of our seven days which showed that their staff didn't give 2 hoots about keeping the beach area clean. Main bar was extremely slow on taking drinks orders and service( waitress seemed more interested in chatting to the barman) all in all a dated grotty looking hotel. Stay here as a last resort only. WE DEFINITELY WONT BE RETURNING.
Positives: The hotel is quite nicely situated, outside Rethymno, but with a bus station just in front. It is having direct access to the beach. Its layout is nice, with its small buildings with alleys in between. And it has 2 swimming pools, a poolbar and a nice terrace in front where you can relax after a day at a beach. The staff is very friendly and the prices they practice are decent, but can be better since what you get there is not 4-star level.. Negatives: in my opinion, Jo An Beach is not a 4-star hotel and I do not understand how they keep their 4-star rating. I say this from the perspective of how the rooms look like and the restaurant (including food). It needs an upgrade in both areas, rooms being furnished like 20 years ago and the food quality and diversity is closer to 2-star hotels than 4.
Perfect restaurant, reception and bar staff, horrible housekeeping service. Only bad thing in the bar was that have to wait too much to receive your drinks. Very poor bar drinks included in the all inclusive. That is not 4 star hotel, no more than 3.
Meine Tochter mit unserer Enkelin, aus Toronto, Kanada angereist hat mir geholfen, den Text auch in Englisch zusammenzufassen: # We booked a family vacation for 12 days at this hotel Jo An Beach because it was rated as a 4 star hotel. Boy, were we wrong! This place is completely misrepresented and is definitely NOT a 4 star hotel, maybe a 1 or 2 star one at best. The rooms were tiny, the room furniture and beds were spartan. There ware no elevators to 1st an 2nd floor. There was only 1 key attached to a magnet for the Air Conditioning - we were 2 people per Room! There were large puddles of water around the fridge and AC on the balcony. The balcony is so tiny that you can barely fit a chair. The bathrooms have no electric outlets, there is no liquid body soap (contrary to advertised ), except the sink no other shelves or whatsoever to put toothbrush, shampoo etc. The dining area is a complete joke – long line ups, cramped conditions, stale food and drinks. I needed sparkling water to take my medicine and it was refused to serve… Just disgusting. The beach area is a tiny blob with absolutely no space, you’d be lucky to get a spot, if at all. The swimming pools are very small. Staff was nevertheless friendly, but if you are hoping for a relaxing and joyful experience, this is definitely NOT the hotel to come to. We fled after the first night and went to a neighbour hotel, which met our standards. # Do not book here, unless you are OK with a basic motel vibe.
