Fabulous historic property sensitively restored. Great views and unspoiled grounds. Housekeeping, reception, bar and restaurant staff all friendly and efficient. Wide range of options for breakfast, all good. Lovely tranquil place.

A converted hotel located halfway up a mountain in a former monastery, making excellent use of the historic architecture. While the interior shows its age, it is impeccably maintained and thoughtfully appointed with guest convenience in mind. Guests have full access to the monastery's various sitting rooms and patios, while the expansive grounds behind the hotel feature a large outdoor swimming pool, ponds, and scenic mountain walking paths. The staff are remarkably warm and proactive in offering assistance. Breakfast is grandly served, with an impressive emphasis on pastries and desserts. Located just a short distance from the center of Guimarães, it is an ideal retreat for enjoying a tranquil and elegant stay in a historic monastery.

There are almost no flaws, though it would be nice to have a salad with green vegetables added to the breakfast.

The beauty, luxury and serenity of the place. The gardens are very beautiful. The building and its contents full of history and antiquity. The pool is excellent with a gorgeous view overlooking the city. The staff was wonderful.

The bed and the pillows are not comfortable. The bed is quite hard. Not a good nights sleep there.

Stunning setting and a beautiful old monastery. A really peaceful and enchanting place. The staff were very friendly and kind. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Outdoors pool area is gorgeous. We loved every minute of our stay and hope to return someday!

Wunderschönes Hotel, ausserhalb auf einem kleinen Hügel gelegen. Alles ist grosszügig: die Zimmer, das Haus, der Garten. Das Restaurant ist sehr gut, die Preise etwas gehoben.

A atención do persoal é exquisita. O almorzó moi completo e variado. O entorno é fermoso. Se o que buscas é un lugar onde desconectar uns días este é o teu hotel.

Pra ser un hotel de 5 estrelas as habitacións están un pouco anticuadas. Íamos un matrimonio cun neno e estivemos na última planta do edificio, no que non hai ascensor co que resulta incómodo pra transportar maletas ou outras cousas persoais. Pero sen dúbida o que pra min foi o pior, foi a falta de insonorización das habitacións. Polas noites escoitanse moito os ruidos das habitacións colindantes. Somos conscientes de que é unha construcción antiga pero custa collelo sono e mantelo con esas molestias. Así mesmo, o baño ten cristaleira, co que cando encedes a luz pola noite, ilumina todo o cuarto e despertaste.

Jeden Tag gab es eine Schale mit saftigen Kirschen und eine neue Wasserflasche, eine Kleinigkeit, aber wir haben uns sehr gefreut. Das Zimmer war sehr geräumig. Wir haben uns einfach wohlgefühlt. Und man sollte keineswegs verpassen alle Räume anzuschauen, einmal im Park zu spazieren und die Aussicht und den frischen Wind auf dem großen Balkon des Klosters zu genießen. Es gibt im ganzen Hotel viele Sitzgelegenheiten, wo man abends den Tag gemütlich ausklingen lassen kann.

Das Frühstück,welches eigentlich ganz in Ordnung war, wurde nach ein paar Tagen etwas eintönig.

Das Hotel ist unglaublich schön.

Die Unterkunft wurde in den 1980ern in einem wiederaufgebauten Kloster als Luxushotel ausgebaut. Das Hotel ist noch in diesem damaligen Zustand, weshalb es durch die Jahre längst kein Luxushotel mehr ist. Auch das Frühstück war lediglich ein Buffet mit Kaffe aus der Kanne zur Selbstbedienung.

Ein ausgesprochen schöner und außergewöhnlicher Aufenthaltsort in einem modernisierten, ehemaligen Kloster auf den Hügeln Guimarães überschauend! Eine sehr besondere Atmosphäre! Wir haben es sehr genossen!

Being a monastery conversion this hotel is on a grand scale. The rooms are large and spacious and well appointed - a free glass of port as well. The views over the valley below were fantastic - especially at sunset. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful. The pool was fabulous with its own bar and bites to east. We had some excellent dishes for dinner but...see below The gardens were a joy to walk around.

The remote location of this hotel does not allow for a leisurely walk to a nearby restaurant so the hotel fare is what we went for. There is a good a la carte menu with some superb local dishes but we thought there were 2 or 3 choices that were disappointing and we told the staff accordingly.

Excellent location, fantastic historic building restored and adapted sympatically. Dining excellent and staff friendly and helpful.

Only issue is that most rooms face west and thus quite warm towards end of day and into the night. Even with air con having been on, the residual heat remains into the night.

A 3-Star Experience Riding on Past Glory – Extremely Disappointing Stay We are active travelers and booked the most expensive room available at the time of our reservation—the Master Suite—for a 3-night stay, fully guided by the hotel's high rating. Unfortunately, the reality of this hotel does not match its 5-star status at all. I do not know who or what organization rated this hotel with 5 stars, but they must have done it many years ago and never returned. The current condition and level of service are comparable to a standard 3-star hotel in any civilized European country (it feels like 2 of those stars were added solely for the ancient architecture and the history of the building). Except for the historic facade, the antique interior, and a large fenced park that was convenient for walking our dog, everything else was terrible. The Breakdown of Our Unacceptable Experience: Living on a Active Construction Site: The main, beautiful building of the monastery (the church) is completely closed for restoration. The hotel continues to accept guests at premium prices while the entire property feels like a construction zone. Management seemingly thinks it is perfectly normal for paying guests to "relax" surrounded by ongoing renovation works. Construction Noise & Neglected Housekeeping: Due to the renovations, loud construction and jackhammer sounds started every morning at 8:50 AM. To make matters worse, we left the "Need room cleaning" card on the door and waited for housekeeping two days in a row until 1:00 PM while we were out, but it was completely ignored. Housekeeping finally knocked on our door yesterday around 4:00 PM—the exact time we had just returned to the room to finally get some rest. Violating the Law & Zero Pet Amenities: The hotel charged us €30 per day for a service dog, claiming that only guide dogs are free of charge.

Extraordinário para quem gosta da comodidade aliada à tradição portuguesa de bem receber. Gostámos muito da envolvência, da beleza do edifício, dos jardins centenários, e de nos fazer sentir dentro da História de Portugal. A recepção foi também maravilhosa pela celebração do meu aniversário. Quanto ao pequeno-almoço foi de "manjar de deuses" ao melhor nível português. Muitos Parabéns a todos. Quero voltar.

Die gesamte Architektur ist wunderschön und ein Besuch lohnt sich absolut. Im Inneren mancher Räume habe ich mich wie in einem Schloss gefühlt. Zudem war das Bett sehr bequem.

Der Kühlschrank stand im Kleiderschrank. Das fand ich nicht besonders toll, weil mir jedes Mal, wenn ich den Kleiderschrank geöffnet habe, eine Hitzewelle entgegenschlug

Gostámos muito da estadia. Fomos muito bem recebidos pelo staff, muito simpáticos e prestáveis. Quartos muito confortáveis. Edificio muito bem restaurado.

Alguns elementos decorativos (iluminação) não combinam com a traça do edifício. Elementos de apoio do WC dos quartos podem ser melhorados. Restrições algo exageradas para um hotel que se intitula pet friendly.

Magische historische plek, geweldig gerenoveerd. Een groot voorrecht om door die historische gangen en zalen te mogen lopen. En het ontbijtbuffet was onovertroffen. Een absolute aanrader voor wie "in stijl" de geweldige stad Guimaraes wil bezoeken.

Deel van het klooster was nog in renovatie, maar dat is ze vergeven.

Great location and interesting building

Booked here for a bit of luxury, after a week walking, expected fluffy towels and bathrobes etc like other such similar properties we regularly stay in. Sadly this place didn't deliver. Rooms a bit dated, reception staff ok, but all seemed very impersonal, breakfast staff quite surly to some guests. Had the feeling of an airport hotel, where people are coming and going all the time. If we had not already paid upfront, for two nights we would of left after a couple of hours

The old monastery building is of great interest and charm. The gardens and woods at the rear of the monastery were delightful for a nice walk. Staff were very helpful.

Dinner service on our second night was very delayed. Apparently there was breakdown of equipment in the kitchen but it would be helpful if waiters had advised customers of that at the time.

We enjoyed our stay at Pousada Mosteiro de Guimaraes...the building and common rooms are historical and charming and the gardens are beautiful and a wonderful place to walk in the mornings and evenings. I also travelled with my small dog who was welcomed and treated with kindness. The rooms were small, but comfortable with nice sheets and wonderful old windows. I could do without the electric scent dispensers in the rooms....it was overpowering - I unplugged it immediately.

Our only issue with our stay was the food...we had long days working so had 2 dinners in the hotel, one in the restaurant and the other in the bar area. The restaurant is cavernous and rather empty...the food tries to be more gourmet, yet did not meet expectations and was also very expensive - which I do not mind if I enjoy the meal. The casual bar dinner was better as we could eat outdoors....just ordered a burger for 17 Euros...which was also sub-par! Breakfast was okay...nothing out of the ordinary, I just ended up eating tea and fruit.

Historically, lovely place. The staff was nice. We enjoyed roaming around the beautiful historic hotel. Great view from terrace!!

It’s quite a long walk (complicated drive) to the historic part of the city WAY below (downhill) from the hotel. Also, it’s a little hard get their by car (in our case a rental car). Narrow, steep streets (lanes) getting up to it, but that pretty typical of old castle/monastery hotels situated UP on top of a hill/mountain top.

A beautiful building that retains its original features but very modern in its facilities and guest services. The gardens and pool are gorgeous.the staff extremely helpful.it was one of the most beautiful hotels we’ve stayed in.superb breakfast.

It’s quite a walk to the town centre but there’s taxi services if required.

Chambres beaucoup trop chargées, entre meubles et motifs c’était étouffant! Le personnel laisse aussi à désirer, seulement deux d’entre eux saluent les clients quand ils les voient. Nous avons demandé à souper, on est que deux et un NON catégorique nous à été prononcé lorsque clairement de la place il y en a et de plus le réceptionniste n’a même pas essayé de nous proposer un créneau où autres! Lamentable pour un 4 étoiles!

Ontbijt was erg goed. Veel keus, alles vers. Het personeel was erg vriendelijk. De bezetting van de bar was matig. Soms moest je iemand aanspreken om de barman/vrouw te bellen.
