Do not expect to rest or sleep at night, the noise from the hallway, adjacent rooms, and outside will keep up all night. And do not expect a wake up call upon request, it won’t happen. If you value your sleep, stay elsewhere!
The room we had was very small. It was just okay.
An efficiency hotel room with all the necessities except a toaster would have been nice ... includes fridge, microwave, kettle, dishes/utensils for 2, Keurig coffee machine. Decent size TV with good channel choices. Soap is teenie, tiny (bring your own). Bed is very comfortable but the room is very tight everywhere, especially in summer with a room air conditioner on the floor connected to the window for exhaust. Staff were fine and did their job adequately. The building itself is rather ugly but once in your room, it doesn't matter.
I booked a room for 1 night but I found out my other hotel let us stay one more night so capital suites was nonrefundable.
This is a garbage place. I don't say that normally but this is why.... They start cleaning your room and removing your stuff before check out time. I checked into this place between AirBnBs for just two nights. My room wasn't properly cleaned there were hairs in the bathtub and the furniture. But since there isn't anything available around here I stayed. It's only two nights right? My day of check out I was working at the airport and I brought my luggage with me so I can come back and check out at 11am quickly. I left my food in the fridge so it wouldn't spoil. When I got there they had cleaned the room and taken out all my food from the fridge... Why? Because people check out without telling them. My bill was paid in full prior to this. In conclusion just get an AirBnB and you won't get rude staff and you know where you stand. Best of luck if you chose to stay
Overall I had a pleasant stay here at Capital Suites Yellowknife. Not sure why there are so many negative reviews. The only issue I found was they do indeed need to soundproof the walls as you can hear a lot of noise from other nextdoor rooms/put in the hallway. However when I stayed I never had an issue when sleeping at night. Yes, there are some interesting characters that hang around but I found them all over Yellowknife, not just at this hotel. I never felt unsafe. Staff were pleasant, facilities were okay. There are no dining options nearby but I was happy to take a short walk into town. If you expect a 4 star hotel this is not it, but if you are happy with a budget hotel you should give it a go. I would stay again. Thank you.
Overall excellent work
I told every staff person on their shift that the bathroom sink did not have a strainer or stopper, that i can see straight down the pipe. No one did anything about it. Therefore I had to keep the soap tray in the bowl so nothing would fall in. The tile on the shower wall was cracked. The soap was so small that I could not take a shower.
hey when there is nothing available this place really shines! lol it is decent enough and clean enough so no worries there, you can walk downtown from here without any worries, parking could be an issue if the hotel is busy. it would be about my fourth choice in hotels arriving in yellowknife.
Not worth comment
Worst customer service. They don't pick up phoned when at the airport. There is no ambience of a lobby which is always locked like a cheap hourly motel. If you have to stay here, don't stay on the parking lot side. 6AM beeping of trucks backing up or garbage trucks collecting trash making noise. When you park you deal with hotel and local workers smoking under the cover of the parking. Butts and garbage near the lobby and parking area. We were stuck here because the other hotels were booked. No food here. Rooms were ok. You need to leave windows open for fresh air, but you deal with noise on lobby side parking lot. Please pass on this place
The hotel was great
The staff when I checked in was somewhat helpful but rude to others and the staff in the morning was rude to me. I found it very inconvenient to have to take a slow elevator to the only door they allow you to smoke at and threaten you with a $500 fee if you smoke in your room (2.5x what I paid for the room). There wasn't much for food besides some overpriced junk food in the lobby. The AC had a torn hose that I asked front desk to help me with and only gave me a roll of tape to fix it myself. Was told the night before I would be allowed a slightly late check-out (12pm instead of 11am) and then the morning staff said that they would bill me half a day fee if I stayed past 11 so was rushing to get out at 11.
This was my first time here and Im not impressed. Highly struggle a change of attitude from the fornt desk staff and a clean room before hand. I will no longer being staying at this hotel.
It was altight
Poor parking accommodation. Smelled in hallway on 4the floor. Remote control for tv was missing - replaced by front desk - found the original remote on the floor by the night stand. Stand alone a/c very noisy. Mostly substandard accommodation for $200 per night room.
There was no AC in the room and they provided a portable AC which kept turning off all night making it hot to sleep in. The service guy came and fixed it once at around 2:00 AM but it soon after went off again. Turn off and turn on, works and then goes off again. Also, the elevator was busy all the time with people coming down to smoke. The entrance area was always filled with people smoking making it very unpleasant. I guess you get what you pay for. The staff is great and very helpful but facility needs some updates.
Simple and basic but it was nice enough and clean.
Didn't like that the entrance door is locked all the time and to get a second key card my husband needed to show ID. Also only one face towel and one hand towel were provided for a 2 person room. Air conditioner was a separate unit right beside the bed, very loud and blowing air directly on the guests. The room was clean.
Excellent customer service
When i first checked in the damage deposit they wanted was ridiculous and they gave me a room that was already used.
Staff were very accommodating. Let me check in early and stay late. Convenient shuttle to airport. No food on site but a close walk to downtown eateries. Very noisy at night though. Found it hard to sleep.
Parking could be improved by better identifying stalls
Clean place housekeeping everyday too
Security did not go check out car alarms going off, when went out two people with flash lights checking out guests vehicles. Intoxicated guests outside the hotel yelling. domestic going on in the hotel on one night about 4am.
Room was tiny, needed updating. Very very loud guests all night long. Staff were friendly.
Stayed here for a few days while visiting Yellowknife. The room was filthy. There were stains on the interior doors. The kitchen cupboard handles were all sticky. Mould in the bathroom and on the windows. . The hotel was loud with drunken fights night and day with routine police visits. Pro- friendly staff. Stay anywhere else.
Great location!
This room I was given looked nothing like the pictures online for the suites. I had specifically wanted to stay here for the kitchen and my suite in fact did not have one and it was so small I could barely walk around my bed. There was a microwave and mini fridge in the corner. Best to update pictures for prospective clients as the suites DO NOT look like these online pics!
I didn’t like that the internet was barely working and I needed the internet the night I stayed there. I ended up having to leave to find internet. Which was very disappointing.
Great service and walking distance from downtown.
Parking is very poor, was not very clean
Staffs are not nice. Not welcoming
Front desk guy was out front smoking a joint when I showed up. Waited 5 minutes at the front desk for him to finish. Credit card machine wasn't working so he wanted to write down my card details on a sticky note. That wasn't going to happen. Gave me the wrong type of room. Fridge wasn't plugged in and reeked. And at 2:30 in the morning somebody opened the room door, obviously somehow had a key. The only good thing I can say is that the room was fairly clean.
The first room they put me was not cleaned up the elevators doesn’t work which really sucks
Room was small and tv was tiny.
I had a hotel room with a kitchen. The place was clean. Great service.
Clean modern room, no problems during our stay. The noise was a bit loud from the hallways, but this is expected for most hotels.
Cleaing of the room was alright but found some fingernails on the ground, really small room, and the parkinf was free but worst parking option ever... really small parking stalls.
Never had any issues here . Decent rooms and good staff
This property is in a highly convenient location. It’s easy to walk to many popular places in downtown Yellowknife. Rooms were very clean. Having the fridge, microwave, and coffee maker all in the room was a nice touch. Reception and housekeeping staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and were able to address any concerns we had.
There are no words to describe the experience here. It was utterly disgustujg the way my family was treated here by the front end staff. I
Be aware that this hotel says they are not pet friendly even though it indicates that they are on this webiste, their own website and various other websites. They also charge $25 per pet per night rather than just a damage deposit. Also the room was very dirty especially behind the bed and between the side table and bed.
I really liked how they set up duo rooms for large families. Spacious, lots of room to separate adults from kids, and good modern day appliances. The thing I didn’t like was that in one room the noise from above us from another tenant was extremely loud and the whole room shook like an earthquake!
The room was clean and cozy. However, it was also way too warm. The thermostat was turned to the lowest setting and it was still over 25 degrees in the room. The windows would also not open. The bathtub faucet was leaky and there was a party going on the room next to us. I wouldn’t say that it was a horrible experience, just a bit uncomfortable.
Staff was very pleasant, especially Zina, who was a sweetheart. It was easy walk to downtown and if you are up to it can even walk to Old Town. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The free shuttle to and from the airport was quite helpful. Having a full bar fridge and microwave was very helpful for snacks after aurora viewing.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable which was all i needed for my very brief stay. Good value for money. Great to have the airport shuttle
Internet is not working.
Room was satisfactory for the short stay.
Room was depressing looking with very dim lights of which a lamp shade was broken (you DO NOT want a depressing room in Yellowknife, trust me). Think of it as "half-way house room chick" Also, there was a hole on the bathroom door, like it was kicked from inside. Told the staff about it and their answer felt more like "meh". After some consideration I decided to find another hotel and found a suite in the Quality Inn. What a difference ! ! ! Skip this hotel if you can. Note: I didn't bother asking for my money back because the room was part of a package.
It is located near downtown Yellowknife, it was a nice stay over there.
It was good overall. Was only a 2 night stay. I liked how I was able to pay the fee after check out. Great option under this site.
They didn’t let me check in because apparently I was drunk to go to the room and sleep. I think I would like my money back.
This hotel is a great place to stay while in Yellowknife I highly recommend this hotel. The staff are friendly, the bed is excellent. The wifi is good for Facebook, and other light surfing. The fitness room could use more weights. The hotel itself is walking distance to downtown.
Good location. Sheets were stained. Walls are very thin.
It was good clean and quiet
Pillow too big, couldn’t use it. We didn’t sleep because it was too loud
Rooms look newly renovated/updated. Ended up doing 3 room switches due to dirty beds and the 4th was also dirty but gave up and slept here anyways. Don't reccomend. Don't stay here. Room 1 The sheets and pillows had long black hairs. Neither my husband or I have long black hair. Went to the front desk and they moved us rooms. Room 2 The sheets and pillows again had long hairs and what appeared to be animal hairs. Complained and the front desk worker "checked" another room and moved us. Room 3 The fitted sheet had grease stains and felt greasy. Took a photo and brought it to the front desk and they accused me of sabatoging the room. They said I sprinkled water on the bed. I said let's go check it together that it obviously isn't water and they ignored me and left me. My husband was in the room and the front desk worker never did check the sheets in room 3. He came back and gave me a key to another room. Worker said he can't give me a discount of refund the room that I'll have to wait to speak with the manager in the morning. Room 4 Front desk worker claimed that they checked this room and the bed had hairs in it but he changed the sheets. When moving into this room I recorded the move and review of the bed. Hairs. Again. Feeling defeated we stayed in this room since it was the cleanest. I do not reccomend this hotel.
Stayed for two weeks. It is a bit of a walk into the downtown core, which was fine with me. My suite had a kitchen which was well equipped. My stay was fine. My only complaints were door slamming in the night - not sure why people can’t close a door quietly at 2:00 am - in addition a couple of nights there were drunks in the hallway banging on a door.
Having stayed at Capital Suites Inuvik we jumped at the chance to stay here. The disappointment starts with the entry. The ground floor check-in area looks worn and tired. The building looks like an older apartment block converted into hotel suites. The suites, consisting of a living area/kitchen area and separate bedroom & bathroom seems pretty good at first glance. The kitchen cabinetry, table and sofas all look good. The bed is comfy and the bedding good quality. But then you spot the paint scrapes, old artex ceiling finish circa 1970, there’s no TV program guide so you can’t work out what’s on (a common problem), the tin opener won’t work and noise permeates both from the central corridor and footfalls from above, probably in part because carpet has been replaced with vinyl flooring. For Yellowknife, the suites are reasonable value for money so overall, not terrible, but not great either.
Nice accommodation, staff was helpful, very efficient and friendly. A/C didn't really work, but the white noise still helped sleeping. Some rooms have mini fridges, mine did not. Great bed and pillows.
Staff was very friendly. Room was clean and bathroom looks newly renovated
Front desk had no customer service. Internet was terrible and the bedding had giant stains
It was fine and it gave me the respite i needed. The surrounding area was a bit sketchy and after the initial stay at Northern Lites this place was like heaven by comparision.
This Hotel was clean, quiet. The staff were very helpful and they allowed me to store luggage for a few days after I checked out. I will definitely come back here.
There were drunks yelling in the hallway until 6 am.
That was kinda disappointing specially the wifi! That was terrible
Good location. No immenities . No internet. Smoke detector beeping
Extremely load. Service people outside door at 5 am and lasted for 2 hours. Hotel staff was not willing to do anything. Don’t come to this hotel if you want a good night sleep.
I stayed at this hotel in February 2019 for business. The hotel is pretty central but a little “off the beaten path” and as a woman on my own, I didn’t feel very safe walking to the hotel to and from work. From the moment I got to my room, all I heard was loud noises. From outside the window and from the hallway where people were constantly yelling and talking in the hallways. During the night, every hour, there would be a constant banging noise from behind the wall that would last for about 10 minutes in a row. The hallways, the elevator and some areas of the room had a very bad, strong door. The people that I saw staying in the hotel looked sketchy. The hotel seems like a party hotel. The bathrooms are old and outdated and the towels seemed unclean and they didn’t have enough towels in the room. The white duvet cover on the bed in my room had black dirty marks on it and when I pulled back the sheets, there was a long black piece of hair on the inside of the sheets. I will never stay at this hotel again.
Will meet your needs, but doesn't have any amenities at all. While it is called a "suite", it's only a fridge and microwave. There is a small stash of microwavable food available for purchase, nothing one would want to live on.
Unable to control the heating within the unit. The room was hot and stuffy; we had to turn on the portable fan and open the window to let fresh air in. Found hair and a couple patches of yellow stains on bed sheet. Hotel staff explained that it was from the detergent... a new set of bedding was provided... and it was clean.
The rooms in this hotel are okay. There is no closet, but there is a wardrobe. There is only one lamp beside the bed, not one on each side. The location of the hotel is also not around anywhere to eat or any shops. It's a long way to anywhere unless you have a car. But the worst part about this hotel is the customer service. I called down to ask for a shuttle in the morning, and the front desk lady told me to come down and look at the schedule myself!! I then requested some extra pillows, as the rooms are set up strangely, and my elderly mother was having difficulties getting comfortable watching tv. The front desk lady first told me there was four pillows per room, and I should look around for a housekeeper if I wanted extra. When I called back to let her know there was no housekeeper on my floor she said she would check if there was extra, and I had to come down and get them at the desk. She called back right away and rudely said there was absolutely no extra pillows. Awful. I wish I could check out of here right now, to be honest. Spend an extra thirty dollars and stay elsewhere!!!
For the price it was a decent size room. Conveniently located near downtown. Quiet location. Lamp didn't work, very few plugs.
We had to book a room very late in the day. When we arrived, check in was easy, quick and pleasant. We extended our stay and upgraded to a larger suite with no troubles!
We went to Yellowknife for the Northern Lights. Evidently a good time of year to go. When we went to book a hotel, this was about the only one left in town. Pretty lousy. Sheets were clean (I guess), but had set in stains on them. Kinda creepy. Location is pretty bad too. It was a LONG walk to anything "downtown", and forever to "Old Town". Like I said, it was better than nothing though.
Convenient and well located. However, these constructions are made from cheap materials. The wear and tear is evident. It looks aged although it isn't. Bathrooms need to be better cleaned and bed linens are of poor quality.
I stayed 5 nights here in a one bedroom suite, which was really large. The kitchen, bathroom, and separate bedroom were all terrific and helped make up for some of the issues I had with my stay here. The (locked) door to the adjoining room/suite let an amazing amount of noise through, to the point where after the first couple of days I spent most of my time in the bedroom where the bed was comfortable for sitting and the TV was great. It was just too awkward otherwise! I kept my drapes closed all the time because the view was not something I wanted to be looking at (an unused weed-filled lot with an ugly building!). Maybe the upper floors have nicer views? Also, cigarette smokers were allowed to stand around right outside the front entrance, which was pretty offensive to me. Aside from that, I have no complaints about the bed and pillows and the hotel is very clean. The staff was friendly. But if I happen to find myself visiting Yellowknife again, there are a couple other hotels in the area that would be a better choice for me.
nice, clean, very convenient. king size bed very comfortable
We were in the area for Aurora hunting in March 2018, so, for the most part, were looking for a clean place to rest. The hotel is conveniently located to the main attractions in town. It had a shuttle to the airport, however, still had to take a taxi to the airport as the timing did not fit my travel times. What we did not like, and I see it in other reviews, is how noisy it can get, especially in the mornings. People upstairs and everywhere walking with their strong steps. I mean, I understand we had to wear huge and heavy boots due to the extremely cold temperatures outside, but still, paper thin walls and floors. After 2 days, I mentioned it at the front desk, and Manager offered to change rooms, which we did not want to because of the time to do so; so then, Manager offered to keep empty the upstairs room right above us. After that, the noise problem reduced, but still one could hear the corridor’s noise. The room was ok, comfortable beds and bathroom. We did not have problems with WiFi connection. For vacationing, I would choose another hotel.
No kitchen even though pictures in the website has it.
Ok place to stay hard to find parking but they managed to find me a spot.
Disappointed overall. Room small and cramped with noisy a/c.
Check in/out was a breeze, went super quick. Tough to fall asleep because of the air conditioning unit was noisy. Also some weird stains on the comforter were only found in the morning
Capital Suites was close to everything we needed to see in Yellowknife. We had a two bedroom, two bath suite and other than it was a bit noisy being on the first floor, it was fine. The suite was clean and had lots of supplies that were refreshed daily. Close to buses and downtown. Staff was very helpful with our questions
I chose this hotel based on the picture and that it has a free shuttle to and from the airport. What a mistake. The pics are very dated and does not properly reflect the property. I arrived and went to my room which smelled like cigarettes and had the window opened, I'm guessing to air it out? I had issues with my tv (audio only?? isn't that a radio??) and have called front desk 4 times to ask why. Not once did they answer. Yikes. Gonna head to the pub to watch the playoffs after this review as I can't in my room. The one star is for the shuttle.
Good stay -- resort with lots to do but pricey. We would go back, but find restaurants off resort.
we stayed for four nights. Room was very basic, but lets face it you are out of a night viewing and around town of a day. We had a fridge and a microwave, so you can get by. The major drawback was, no restaurant, so you had to go out to eat, minus 35 temperature.
I stayed here recently and one morning I noticed the complimentary coffee pods they leave in the rooms contained no coffee. Only tea. I went down to the front desk and asked for some coffee because there was none in my room. The gentleman (who I later learned is the manager) started to argue and said they "have standards" for what goes in each room. He then listed what should have been there. All I wanted was a pod. He then said "show me" so I went back up to my room and grabbed the tea pods and took them down and simply walked away from him. The suites have been upgraded and "look" nice. They unfortunately put cheap laminate flooring rather than carpet so you hear everything above you. There is a lot of pedestrian traffic coming and going at all hours of the day. Valencia is a front desk agent and she is lovely. Her Manager should take lessons from her as to how to treat guests. The outside of the hotel is not maintained. Graffiti, panels hanging, garbage all over the ground. Guests take their garbage bags and put them in the hallway and they are left there until housekeeping arrives the next day. Diapers!! The bed in my room squeaked every time I moved. I will never stay there again. I may have considered it, however, the Manager completely broadsided and offended me.
This is a very cozy hotel in down town area, and the people here are very nice. They gave you help whenever you need, and try their best to make your stay comfortable. The tall young guy (I feel asham I forgot his name) at the reception is very kind and helpful. Please remember to book a room with kitchenette.
It was pleasant stay at Capital Sweets, helpful and kind staff, enjoyed staying there.
Myself and my two children were put in a room that had dirty towels-that were folded! A room without a screen and no fridge. When I asked the manager Nomi why the room didn't have a fridge he said that none of the standard rooms had fridges and said I can move to a room with a kitchenette for $40+ more. I refused as I read on their website that basic rooms had small fridges. Later I smelled a strong smell I suppose coming from outside my room so I opened the window only to find no screen and asked the manager who was at the from (Nomi) if he can help solve my problem. He then opened the window wide open leaving it free for bugs or whatever to come into our room. I was so disgusted. I later waited until he was gone to ask for another room and was put in a fairly decent one that was available as we had gotten there after housekeeping left. If you're dealing with a man named, Nomi, ask for service from someone else or expect poor outcomes.
Wild people in the street very loud Doors slamming The management should called the police long before they did
Service was good. Room was lacking, not even a desk to do work at. Wifi was very slow, could not do much work while connected. Room was very clean. Loud plumbing in my room, could hear every time someone would flush the toilet in the hotel it seemed.
the room temperature is not warm enough sometimes.
thanks
Small cramped room. Hotel night staff were not helpful.
No desk, no restaurant, very hot with no control, expensive. Not going to stay there again.
