Sir Sam's Inn & Waterspa - Adults Only

I liked the property. It’s perfect for couples retreat. Property is old but price we paid its was good. Loved the view. They should have microvave in room as there is no restaurant near by. I would definitely go back.

Peaceful and beautiful location. Friendly staff. Great bar with pool, fusball, darts, etc. Right on a beautiful lake-perfect for kayaking/canoeing or swimming.

The property is in a beautiful area with the lodge and other rooms in an excellent location overlooking the exterior pool and Eagle Lake. The resort which includes a luxurious spa, provides a quiet, serene environment to escape to for a rejuvenating rest.

We visited this property for one night for our anniversary. The water front and beach are nice and the staff was very friendly. We were not impressed with the restaurant. The pricing was not adequate to what we recieved for dinner. Well over priced. Also I paid extra for the romance package which was supposed to include a bottle of wine and charcuterie board. The board had to meat with it just a bit of cheese and crackers. For a 50 dollar charge I though it would be better.

Absolutely fantastic. Staff are terrific. Love both pools, free boat cruise. Great parking. Going back for sure. Good price.

The room was old and not very clean. Would have expected the room would be very clean.

The spa facilities are really great. I could stay in the spa pool all day!

This property has a lot of potential with historic charm but is old and run down. It is advertised as having 2 pools (indoor and outdoor), a gym, tennis courts and watersports but the reality was the gym was closed due to flooding (but had been converted to storage), the outdoor pool was closed and under repair, the tennis courts were unusable (1 court was destroyed by washout, 2nd court had a net but had large cracks in surface with weeds growing up through it), watersport equipment was limited to 1 SUP, 1 kayak and 1 hobbicraft for the entire property to share (paddles and lifejackets hard to find). Rooms did not have any a/c and the property was severely understaffed. There was only 1 person covering the front desk, bar and dining room.

Beautiful location all year round, very serene. Amazingly friendly staff, and clean rooms. If something doesn't go right, they're super quick to fix it. Highly recommend!

The spa pool was broken and eont be fixed til next week, we werent informed before the stay or upon arrival. They said they left a boicemail, they did not. Noone told us at check in. Fisappointing. The outdoor pool is green and nit in use just like last year. I have photos

Love the Spa pool when the water temp is warm. They were having some temperature issues. We stay here often and this is a rarity. Great getaway.

Our off-season booking gave us a bed and access to the rundown facilities but otherwise we had to ask for everything. It’s painfully rundown and understaffed but the people are so sweet and the location is wonderful. It was more like a glamping experience than a hotel. We saw deer each morning and the most beautiful sunrises but really expected a more fulsome experience.

Nice, quiet resort. The waterspa was excellent, and there were so many things to do (pool table, shuffle board, ping pong, darts, etc). The food at the restaurant was a little expensive but the quality was amazing, and staff throughout our trip were very helpful.

Parking was difficult. Property was not plowed. Check in was not good. I was billed $123 immediately for Hotel “contents and resort fees” then credited the full amount then billed again. Very confusing and somewhat un organized.

While the room was clean, upon arrival our toilet was not flushing. With no phone in the room you need to bring this to attention at the front desk. The issue was fixed after approximately an hour and we were offered complimentary drinks at the bar for the inconvenience. I would have liked to see more fire wood prepared neatly in the room before we arrived as well as kindling and matches. The bed was incredibly comfortable! The spa pool and sauna were excellent. And the quiet Muskoka atmosphere was exactly what we had hoped to get out of our weekend. None of the negative comments are reasons we would not return. In fact we look forward to booking our next getaway at Sit Sam's.

Had a great time at the water spa after a day of snowboarding!

It’s aging and needs an upgrade

The photos of the rooms are very deceiving.

Use wet firewood for everyone I found all the firewood that was dry inside the building at least we were able to have a nice fire the last night

We enjoyed the setting along the lake. The views were great. The staff were very helpful. The property feels dated. The rooms could use a reboot and the dining room was very understated. All in all a nice place to stay on a more rustic level.

Great spot to unwind…

I loved the location on the lake. It was beautiful with all the fall colours. The room was good. The only small problem was the remote for the TV didn't work well. We used the buttons on the TV itself to turn it on and off. The toilet paper rack needed to be fixed.

A very beautiful and peaceful setting. The room is a bit dated but it is comfortable and clean.

Amazing view and property rooms are definitely older but clean, not a lot of food. Options would highly recommend barbeques for guests. Restaurant extremely expensive.

Loved the rooms over looking the lake with wood burning stove. The pool spa was a nice way to end the day. We enjoyed kayaking on Eagle lake. It was nice that SUP boards and Kayaks are available. Not a great experience with the dinning. Over priced. Food was ok. I suggest dining in Halliburton. Haliburton just a 15 minute drive with some great pubs and restaurants.

The inn is set in a beautiful area of eagle lake, great views, nice small beach with sun beds, nice to swim in lake, free hour boat trip, weather permitting, free kayaks, lots of areas to sit and admire the view, nice restaurant serving breakfast and dinner, friendly staff, good indoor pool and spa areas. The main building could do with some tlc, the cleanliness of the lodges needs improving, a lot of cobwebs inside and out, carpets very old and need replacing.

The property was so beautiful and peaceful. Loved the adults only aspect. The stars were breath taking. All of the staff we talked with were very friendly and helpful.

Amazing property

Railing was loose on balcony and on need of maintenance. The grounds are nice and the room was orherwise cozy and clean.

The room could have been a little cleaner. Floors. Also there was a fire place where old wood was kept but not in use as it’s the summer so there were scraps of wood & very dusty that could have been cleaned up. Don’t mind the would siting under the fire place but old pieces of wood were lying atond & very dusty.

I have been to Sir Sams a few times over the years and I have to say that it has gone down hill greatly since I was here last. If you are going in the summer you should be aware that aside from the lobby and dining area there is no air conditioning. The rooms get very hot. They are clearly having some staffing issues. We were unfortunate enough to be there the day after their chef suddenly quit, leaving them scrambling to get a replacement. They did get someone who had previously done the job for them and he made a valiant effort to keep things on an even keel. Unfortunately he had to battle a larder left depleted by the original chef. The long and short of the dining experience was that dinner was bumped an hour later for the early diners which made everyone come in about the same time. This seemed to overwhelm the staff. Meals were VERY slow to come out and very erratic. Many dishes, including mine which was requested as medium-rare, came out well-done and had to be sent back adding another half hour or so wait. They did not offer to take my wife's dinner back so we could eat together. They did give us free drinks to compenate. Breakfast was a different story. It was organized and everything was good. The rugs in the main area and the suites were very old and stained. Our bedding had to be replaced because it was frankly dirty. I have to say the staff did their best. The place is looking very tired. It needs a major overhaul.

The property feels rundown and deserted with minimal staff. Mediocre meal for $200. Latte machine broken.

I’d asked for a room with a patio on the first floor, but they were going to give me a room on the second floor. Also, when we went to the restaurant to have dinner, they said we should’ve made a reservation, but this wasn’t communicated to us, and so we had to drive 20 km to the nearest decent restaurant to eat.

Beautiful property. We arrived at 7:45pm tired and hungry after a 5 hour drive and was told no availability left for dinner. Lots of tables open and lots of diners still there. 30 minute drive to Minden for set down meal. Places in Haillburton 15 minutes away but all fast foods. SAD!

Enjoyed our day on the lake and the evening at Sir Sam’s

Extra charge to use facilities that were not available anyway. Pool outdoor closed. Fitness centre closed. No spa services available due to no staff

Excellent

Beautiful location.

Beautiful spot and loved the fireplace in the room!

Beautiful property and clean rooms. Dining options are limited in the area, however, there is a restaurant on site.

The WaterSpa is WONDERFUL! Great ski hill across the road. Rooms & facilities need better cleaning/maintaining. Restaurant lovely but food overpriced.

My husband & I enjoyed our first Fall Getaway to Sir Sam’s Inn. Beautiful area tucked away in the trees for some peace and quiet. Staff were wonderful, rooms could have been a bit cleaner. Rooms are in need of some updating. Therapy pool was wonderful for those achey muscles. Food is pricy in their Dinningroom but if you don’t mind spending it then….all in all was a nice place.

Stunning views of Eagle Lake and the fall colors, indoor water spa pool, dock and lakeside sitting spaces...and the food is great! The inn also provides a free boat ride of the Eagle Lake. Situated close to Sir Sam's Ski & ride. Saw a couple of deer roaming around the property.

Small property in a nice location with very friendly staff.

beautiful setting. Water spa and massage was good. Rooms are a little dated but cozy.

Great…can’t wait to go back!

Very pretty location and resort has lots of character. Only negative was a coffee machine was included in the room but no cream or sugar was provided. Minor inconvenience.

Lovely location and ambiance

My wife and I booked a last minute 2 night stay just after Canada Day weekend. The resort has beautiful, west facing, sunset views over the lake. However, the daily complimentary 1 hour cruise, with Steve, was the highlight of the trip (enjoyed both days)! The bed was comfortable although both nights were sleepless, due to a mini heat wave, and the room was an absolute furnace! That being said, we knew up front there was no AC (not the fault of Sir Sam's). There's much room for improvement, however...and we're not sure it deserves even a 31/2 star rating. The ice machine was broken (has been for awhile), so we had to ask for the bar to only '3/4' fill our mini bucket each day :( On a similar note, there was enough bodywash included for only 1 shower. Good thing we brought some with us. Also bring a power bar, as there are hardly any available electrical outlets...that arent't already being used for table lamps/fans/CO detector. We ate dinner on one (1) night (fool me once). Good thing neither of us were hungry. The 7oz NY striploin (nearly $50 CAD) was possibly 2-3oz's of fat, although it was cooked...and seasoned well. I strongly encourage taking advantage of their meal plan, or eating elsewhere. We found McKeck's Pub was worth the 17 minute drive. Lastly, the TV was maybe 15" at best, and the satelite had nothing but news, TV shows, and PPV. They'd be better off replacing with a larger SMART TV where you can stream your own Netflix, Prime, Disney, etc.

Such amazing service and such kind staff!

There is nothing anywhere like the pool spa!

The rooms were ok, but not wonderful. Truthfully we were pretty disappointed with the water spa. Half of the jets weren’t working/broken. We ate at the restaurant both nights we stayed. The first night was good. The second night was really disappointing. The fire wood we were provided was wet which made making a fire impossible. The staff were nice, but overall I wouldn’t recommend this place.

We enjoyed the whole atmosphere there relaxing

Photos depict a bright and airy decor. We chose the room with the 2 wing chairs and the beautiful pine hope chest style coffee table. We were given a very dated dull room with no wing chairs or large coffee table; simply a very old couch with cushions that had no support. The tv was the smallest wall tv we’d ever seen. We we mortified to be given sheets of paper for kindling that had previous customer’s personal information…their name, email address and what they paid during their stay! Now we wonder who’s reading our personal info? We also didn’t see anywhere on the hotel listing that said the rooms were inna motel-like strip behind the main hotel, with no parking in front of the suites. We also had no idea there were stairs with no safety railing going down to the room the minute you open your door. The staff were extremely warm & friendly and the manager moved us to another room with 2 wing chairs, but still no coffee table or DVD player as advertised. So the romantic movies we brought for Valentine’s couldn’t be watched. The gorgeous pool they show on their site was also dated and the jets were so weak we didn’t see how they could claim this is therapeutic in any way. The restaurant “Twin Fires” wasn’t very warm. We saw the two fireplaces…but both nights they weren’t lit. However, that being said the cuisine was lovely with beautiful presentation, the candle-lit ambiance and outdoor twinkly lights were appreciated, and their staff are exceptional!

Very nice having a wood burning fireplace in our room

the property far exceeded our expectations. our room had a balcony and wood burning fireplace. the warm salt water pool had areas with massaging jets and the sauna was also a nice private area.the on site restaurant was very good. we made a few trips to Haliburton for supplies, then discovered when we were on our way out, there is a county store not far from the resort

The resort was great. Could use some fixing up(missing tiles in pool, weatherproofing). Could use a family restaurant instead. Views are amazing and rooms are comfortable.

It is beautifully located.

very nice and cozy place, but towels were too old and full of stains, bathtub wasn't clean also

They have excellent lansdcaping and lake front scenery. Best place to nestle in the fall visit

Food is really good. Staff are very helpful.

Slightly hard to find, but that's because it was so secluded and part of it's charm. All the rooms over looked the lake. The indoor pool wsd amazing. No complaints

Lovely grounds; great staff; amazing water spa! Needs a refresh

great amenities and location

The place is wonderful. The property needs some upgrading. Restaurant to price for what they offer. Room ok but the bath tub is very dangerous for older people. We were afraid to get into it to get a shower.

This was a lovely inn and I’ll be going back. The staff was helpful. The food on site was delicious (was it pricey? Sure). It was a lot quieter than I thought it would be. Plenty of space to sit and read and chat and relax. I lit fires every night in my room. The bugs weren’t even too bad. The building and suites could use a little bit of an update but that’s only cosmetic. Definitely functional and quaint!

Place is serene and a total gorgeous setting. Very relaxing. Loved the character of the place. You can see some wear and tear from the years but over all lots of character. Fireplace in each unit has a romantic touch. In bed the view of the lake was incredible as was the spa pool with all the different jets for messages. I found it strange there was no microwaves in the room so if you grabbed food from outside then you cannot warm it up. BRING YOUR OWN COOLERS. There is a small fridge but barely holds enough. Also the outdoor common fire pit was great for meeting other guests. I loved how there was a patio or balcony for each unit to sit outside and have a coffee or drink. I wish the outdoor pool was heated to swim in the cooler weather but having that indoor spa pool made up for it. The closest town is about 15 mins away and everything closes early. Foodland has everything you need along with 2 pharmacies. I would highly recommend this place for a couples getaway. The main building has some fixtures that need attending to but again it has character. I liked the games room and the quaint bar area. Small but sufficient. Dinner was good but way overpriced. We ate there once and the portions were small. We grabbed food from Foodland for dinner and a pizza the next night. But sucky we had to eat it right away as no microwave to heat up your food. Overall I would give it 4/5. Minor old details with aging of the building but the view is fantastic!

Beautiful lake view and beautiful spa pool. So rich in history.

Room feels cozy and view is great. Room and bathroom are clean. But the jetted tub that I paid for wasn't working. The area and parking were not plowed so wear boots or waterproof shoes in the winter.

Beautiful location on Eagle lake. Clean room with a view on the lake and comfortable bed. The place is a bit worn out. You can hear conversations from your neighbours. Not very private. The features at the Spa do not work and the water is a bit cold. The sauna is never ON and you need to ask the people at the front desk to turn it on. Why not install a timer for the clientele to use? This place has so much potential. It is too bad it is not kept up. This property needs TLC. We will not go back especially at such a high price.

Dinner for two was VERY costly. A pre heated Mac-n-cheese, chicken breast and veggies, 1x beer and two desserts rang in at $125 plus tax. Room not the cleanest, we chose not to even go near the in a heart shaped jacuzzi tub from the 1984 with a retro fitted shower curtain. No phone to call front desk, don’t even bother trying to call using our cell phone as the employees have “checked out”. Unfortunately once a gem, now a dive.

I thought the way Expedia presented the inn as bed and breakfast but it was just bed no breakfast. So going with Expedia it was very expensive. So I will not go that route again.

The room was small, furniture tired,no cloth hangers in the closet so we dress out of our language We Found a pile of beer cans from previous visitors outside the patio door and they were Not picked up during our stay so no ground maintenance. The restaurant offer only breakfast and lunch ,and was realy pricey with a limited selection.,so you have to drive out to Huliburton if you want lunch.Huliburton restaurants were closed also on Sunday The Water Spa features are Limited ,the steam room was closed and Spa services I think were non existent ? The full resort need serious upgrading in order to be consider Luxurious. The advertising on line was misleading. At the time of booking breakfast was $20 but at the time of staying become $25,no smart TV,No daily housekeeping,no ironing board available.,etc.With regret I’m not gonna return to this resort .

Very disappointing. Hotel seriously needs updating. Over-priced. Handed me one coffee pod and two cream and a small bottle of water in a plastic bag when I checked in (tacky). Bathtub didn't even look like it had been cleaned. Food in restaurant was good, but again, over-priced. Hotel charged an extra $21.00 onto y hotels.com invoice with no explanation. Would not recommend.

The property is absolutely beautiful sitting on Eagle Lake. We were there in fall when the leaves were changing. Canoes and kayaks were provided by the Inn. Waterspa was well maintained however there is no hot tub. There is one massage therapist on site however, she is not an RMT. Rooms were clean and have a wood burning fire place! Be sure to ask front desk for fire starters. Bathrooms are a bit outdated. We were in a Junior Suite that was a walk out to the lake which was very convenient. Food was very good! However very limited options especially for those with dietary restrictions. When we booked, we called to advise of food allergies as requested in the booking. When we arrived, the kitchen wasn't aware of the allergies and we had to make sure to remind the kitchen before every meal about the allergies (we stayed for 3 days and had breakfast and dinner everyday). Especially since the meal plan is not cheap, it was disappointing. Customer service was a bit disappointing at the front desk and some of the servers. We were taken back a few times and felt as though we were inconveniencing staff when we asked questions. It put a bit of a damper on our stay but luckily we were able to spend most of our time outside since the weather was beautiful.

The room we stayed in and the indoor spa pool are in desperate need of renovations. We were not impressed (especially because of Covid) how dusty and dirty our room was including a dirty toilet. The loungers in the pool area were stained and dirty. Some of the spa pool features not working at all. The floor around the indoor pool is very slippery when wet. For safety, that should be fixed immediately. The only thing we enjoyed during our stay was the view of the lake. Because of all the other issues we will not be returning.

Dinning food choices limited and pricey. Lack of fruit and vegetables. Dinning room a little dated.

Lovely couples inn. Food was excellent. The lemon lavender cheese cake and Kawartha mint chocolate chip ice cream was to die for😊 Lots of activity options too.Indoor, outdoor pools and lake with small sandy beach, breathtaking view of Eagle Lake. Quite a few Canada geese so had to watch your step. Did enjoy the parents with their new spring flock. 2 families there most of day...maybe consider getting a border collie dog to keep them away! Hmmm🙂 Our Room was in separate condo style building and private with its own patio and chairs which we liked. Queen bed with lots of pillows, clean, very comfortable, firm but not too hard. Bathroom jacuzzi was disappointing, seen better times, stains and tiles cracked and not great repair job. So didnt use but was one of reasons we booked this room. The rain shower was nice. Room overall was clean just a little tired. Loved the chests from the army and antiques were nice. No air conditioning was a drawback and i didn't notice tihis on booking & there in the midst of an August heatwave. Fans and ceiling fan above bed. Covid precautions taken seriously.👍 The staff were very friendly and concerned with you having a good time. Tracy in the restaurant was amazing, suggesting the meal plan as we had not realized this option and had booked everything separately, thank you! Make sure you make early advanced reservations for dinner prior to arrival. Overall had a great time and would go back.

My husband and I just had a 2-day stay, my 2nd time. The property has changed little in the past 20 years. That in itself should say a lot. On the plus side, the food is still as good ($$$) and staff are friendly. It was unfortunate that the Water spa was not operational due to a broken heater. The outside pool (like an infinity pool overlooking the lake!) is beautiful to look at, but alas it's not a heated one, and was bone-chilling, freezing cold! The lake was warmer! I'm sure if this pool was heated, people wouldn't just sit around sunbathing. If this resort could make improvements in and around the building, e.g. improve the landscape with pretty flowers, and make a walkway on the lawn, so one doesn't have to step on geese droppings everywhere, it would make the place look better and more comfortable for the guests. They could also provide orientation to what facilities and services were available and no, especially during these covid times, at check-in (we discovered the ping-pong, pool and shuffle, and the charming bartender, John, almost at the end of our stay), it would have made for a better experience for sure. So overall, for the price we paid for 2 nights, I think it falls short compared to other similar priced resorts. But I'll end on a good note. The lake is beautiful and the resort is quiet and peaceful. Perfect lake for canoeing and kayaking. The boat cruise was lovely. And the sound of the loons each morning and evening made my day.

FAR FROM A LUXYRY SPA! Where do I even start? As a SPA they failed to mention on the website that their spa was closed so imagine my surprise when I book a stay in a spa and after a 3 hour drive and taking time off work am told their spa is not even open; that's not even half of it. Their WiFi does not work it keeps going on and off, no air conditioning expect a fan that sounds like Jurassic Park is next door so forget about having a good night sleep, the rooms are in DESPERATE need of repair! stained floors and old scratched up furniture & oh did I mention they serve no lunch and the closest restaurants are 20 minutes away? dinner was available but the main course prices start at around 40$ ? Obnoxiously priced set menu & the food is not nearly good enough for that price point. The only open facility indoors was the bar which was the most depressing thing because half the lights were off and there was this annoying none stop buzzing sound from a broken light or something and it would take forever to pay with a card because their machines would not work properly so yeah long story short do yourself a favor and save your hard earned money and go somewhere else which does not trick you with false advertising.

Nice

Lovely place. Surprised the room didn't have air conditioning as July in ON can get pretty humid, but we spent the days outside anyhow, and the nights were comfortable. We had heavy rain one day, and there was a leak from the small transom window--probably because the shingles are well past their due date. But the room was fine. Staff was great. Indoor pool was still closed for the pandemic, but we thoroughly enjoyed the canoes & kayaks. Great hiking in the area.

The service was good. The receptionist was great. The food at the inn was amazing. It was a little pricey. There wasn't anywhere else to eat unless you drive 20 min away. For the bad. When I got to the room, it wasn't cleaned. I should've taken pictures. I walked right out. The cleaning crew had just left for the day. When I told the front desk, they got them back and cleaned it in 20 min. This is an old inn/lodge. Rooms were split level. I was in a bottom unit. You can hear people walk and talk upstairs and the floor would creek. This was sold as a couples retreat rental. You may opt to rent the more expensive spacious room in and above the main inn. Parking was limited for the cheaper rooms. You would have to park in the main area and walk in.

Absolutely enjoyed our stay. Complete with wood fireplace.

Let me start by saying the food was incredible. Yum yum!! The

I really only liked the view from my room, besides that this resort is everything except a luxury resort like they announce. Everything is falling apart and very dirty. Definitely will. It come back...ever!

Enjoyable stay. The place is a bit dated but very clean and comfortable. Great amenities, particularly the indoor pool and water circuit. The menu has been updated and offers good selection and the dining experience was all the more enjoyable due to the knowledgeable and friendly server. The staff are very attentive and adherent to best practices around COVID-19. This is our third time at Sir Sams and we look forward to the 4th.

Beautiful lake and a beautiful view, but the Inn would not meet with Sir Sam’s approval if he was still alive.

Great stay, really enjoyed it

We stayed March 7th Room 42, cleanliness was not great, our room hadn't been vacuumed lots of snow salt in our room from the previous people. The bathrooms need updating badly and a good scrub. When we arrived we were told we needed reservations for dinner, ended up eating at 845 pm after a day of skiing we would have liked the option to eat earlier but didn't realize when we made our room reservation we should have made dinner reservations then. Showers and sauna area needs updating badly, this place needs Sir Sam!!!

Friendly helpful staff, excellent dining, great spa , spacious rooms all in a perfect location.

We loved our evening meal in the 100 year old charming restaurant and our server Charlene was very attentive & lovely. The meal was world class - very beautifully presented and perfect in every way. A truly amazing chef. Spa pool area was spectacular -beautiful, serene & breathtaking. Games room fun too with lots of choices. We played ping pong etc! Our room was lovely - extra large with a fireplace and panoramic windows overlooking the lake. This Inn is an escape from reality - a hidden gem. We loved our stay here.

Sir Sams is lovely ‘older style’ resort. It’s clean and extremely welcoming. We had one of the little cabin rooms - beautiful view of the lake and the wood fire was dreamy! I think the bed was probably the most comfortable I’d ever slept in. The main hotel is lovely. The bar is well equipped and the autumn cocktails were delicious! We didn’t have breakfast but did eat in the restaurant on our last night. The meal was outstanding! We’d love to visit Sir Sams again in the summer!

nice and clean, dinner perfect, front desk helpful

The pool was nice, stay included kayak, canoe and paddle boards. The kitchen was short staffed so we weren't able to get a server take our order at the patio or serve food around 4pm as they were preparing for dinner. Overall a nice place to get away from the city.

Great staff and the location was awesome. Everything was available (Kajaks, bikes, ...) The waterspa area was very relaxing

The water spa was very relaxing. Great view of the water

Peaceful tranquil setting with very helpful and friendly staff

Relaxing, everyone was very friendly - peaceful and beautiful setting.

The water spa area was wonderful. Many games to play - shuffleboard, ping pong etc. Great massage!
