The spa and the buffet

The breakfast was excellent. The hot pools great. The hotel needs a good clean and an update. Kids running and screaming through the corridors does not for a quiet comfortable stay make.
Cleanliness. Hotel needs an update.
Great buffet breakfast
Rooms needs a revamp
We recently stayed at the Caledon Hotel & Spa for two nights and overall had a pleasant experience, with the hot springs definitely being the highlight of our stay. The reception staff were fantastic throughout our stay — always friendly, welcoming, accommodating and willing to assist. When we arrived, we were initially allocated a room quite a long way down the hallway from reception and the restaurants. We requested to be moved closer to reception, and our request was fulfilled immediately, which we really appreciated. We soon realised, however, why we had originally been placed so far away! Some guests can be rather noisy when returning to their rooms late at night, although this is, of course, no fault of the hotel. The room itself was lovely and comfortable, but a few small details were missing. There was no iron or ironing board, no extra blanket, and although there was a tea and coffee-making facility, there were no teaspoons. Our towels were changed the following morning, but unfortunately the replacement towels were damp, which was disappointing. One thing we wish we had known before booking was that the hot springs are closed on Mondays. Fortunately, the Victorian Bath was still open, and we thoroughly enjoyed it — it was fantastic and certainly helped make up for some of the other shortcomings. The breakfast was lovely and tasty, and we really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, our experience at the Black Sheep Restaurant was less impressive. The steak we ordered was tough and, in our opinion, definitely not worth the price. We expected better, particularly from a restaurant of this standard. That said, the hot springs are a wonderful attraction and, for us, were the highlight of the stay. The fantastic reception staff also made a real difference to our experience. Their friendly and accommodating attitude was greatly appreciated.
I liked the location. The breakfast was mediocre. It was cold and some of the empty dishes on display did not get refilled. I found the overall demeanor of the staff serving / making the breakfast (omelet/eggs) counter not very welcoming. Many of the available yogurts and fruit were nearly empty limiting choice.
There was no porter to assist us with our luggage to the downstairs rooms. The elevator was out of order. The shower in the bathtub is a liability and the rooms certainly can do with an upgrade. Early morning staff were noisy and completing unimportant tasks.
Room was clean and comfotable. Breakfast was good.
Rooms are very basic. Limited info about hotel facilities in room i.e how to use tv, restaurants etc. Also no place at some of the pools to place towels etc.
Hot springs
Limited halaal food, only breakfast
Surrounded areas
Waiting for room to ready
We liked the warm pools and jacuzzi. We also liked the restaurant and arcade. Oh and your breakfast was excellent 👌
The only thing I disliked was the bedroom. With no kitchenette
Lovely location, beautiful spa baths facilities.
No actual restaurants open, rooms could do with a refresh. Some facilities just a bit dated.
Very relaxing atmosphere Hotel room location was good Breakfast was amazing Hot springs were lovely
The hotel rooms are outdated and require improvement. The room lacked a smart TV, and the air conditioner was extremely noisy, sounding like a generator. There was no room service available, and the patio furniture was dirty. I would also like clarification on whether the daycare centre is permanently closed, as this was not communicated clearly. The reception staff were not very knowledgeable about the facilities and were not particularly helpful when answering general questions.
It was my first time at this resort/hotel. I liked the Country feel, the quiet and peacefulness. You automatically go in relaxation/ holiday mode when you enter the place.
There needs to be attendees in the casino on the slots to assist guests that have problems with the slots. My card kept giving error at alot of the slot machines which was annoying as there was no staff member to assist even after pressing the assistance button many times. Maybe it was a good thing cause I ended up spending less money there than I budgeted for. I also dont understand why we must pay R200 a day, to use the warm pools, this should be included to hotel guests.
The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was a fantastic spread, very good. The hotel and spa facilities were very clean
The hotel rooms are a bit dated and tired, especially the bathrooms and not enough plug points in the room. The bar fridge also did not work.
The hot spring
Very relaxing environment
I think they should upgrade their rooms a little more.
Room was comfy and the bedding really good. Staff was friendly and courteous. We were not too far from the spa pools and water features. The grounds were neat and tidy. The local feline was too cute and friendly. Security was visible and frequent enhancing a safe environment. Pools were available sometimes. The breakfast buffet was excellent and good variety of foods and drink.
Parking was a bit far. the air conditioner in the room was tricky to operate. Booking in a t reception took a bit long but it was understandable as there were many people trying to book in at the same time. The complimentary coffee/ tea in the room was not adequate (too little sugar). The pools were sometimes not available due to servicing or repairs as well as the sauna which was out of order. Some visitors disregarded the no smoking signage and continued to vape even after reminding them of the rules.
Staff were very accommodating and helpful.
Bath full of marks. Curtains torn. Establishments were busy fixing outside veranda. No cushions for pool lounges outside.
The hotsprings
No working tv, shower was horrible.
I think the property has so much potential; however, the facilities could be better maintained. The hot springs are wonderful, but they can become extremely crowded, making it difficult to fully relax and enjoy the experience. We often went later at night hoping to avoid the crowds, but they were still quite busy. The changing rooms would also benefit from more frequent cleaning and refreshing, particularly during peak periods, to ensure they remain clean, hygienic, and pleasant for guests. The rooms were comfortable and kept clean. This is perfect for a weekend getaway; I would keep a stay to a maximum of three nights! We were there for a whole week, and it became a bit redundant, even though we ventured out. There is not much to do in Caledon.
The breakfast was unfortunately the least enjoyable part of our experience. The overall quality of the food could be improved, particularly the eggs, which were often fried with too much oil and lacked seasoning. Even when we requested salt to be added during preparation, we were advised that this was not permitted. The coffee was absolutely terrible, and the pancakes that my daughter was so looking forward to were not sweet. The general kitchen menu needs an overhaul
The heated pool The buffet breakfast
There was nothing i didnt like
We always have a good stay at the Caledon Hotel. Love the warm pools.
Very spacious and enough pools to accommodate visitors with options
Hotel room carpets needs a deep clean
The pools and surrounds were good
The rooms were very tried especially the bathrooms sub standard The breakfast was average The restaurants were awful
Outdated
The breakfast was good, tasty, plentiful. I think your hotel is in good shape and that you should edit out some of the outdated criticisms on your website.
The distances walking from room 235 to breakfast and trying to reach the spa caused problems. The golf cart drivers were very kind.
Hot springs!
Walk ways were wet and uncovered. More cover
Breakfast was ok...could have been better as some of the things were cold eg. flap jacks and syrup/ honey containers were sticky. Otherwise the place was and staff was fantastic.
The fact that the card to my door on 3 consecutive days did not allow entrance and had to walk all the way back from 151 to the reception area. Was told that someone was going to have a look at it but never happened.
I love the hot tubs the beds the staff always clean. I just love Caledon spa my kids love it aswell
Breakfast can be bit better and more halal things don’t like that the tubs are not I. Use on a Monday if u book in on Sunday the money few hours before check out I can’t use hot tubs unless it’s warm weather u can use other pools I think in winter hot tubs should cleaned late nights so that ppl can enjoy Monday morning before checking out
Excellent breakfast and stay perfect.
To have a shop to purchase swimwear. A microwave to warm milk purchased
The staff were friendly and very helpful. The bed was comfortable and the rock pools fabulous. Beautiful gardens.
The bathroom had not been cleaned and the day visitors having access to all the pools ruined the experience. Hotel guests should be allocated separate pools to enjoy the peace and not have to navigate pool noodles and blow up pool toys. A strict dress code should also be enforced for the pools.
breakfast was very nice .... the staff was very helpful and friendly No problems just you get tired of the same menu everyday....bur ontherwise it was ok
you can change the menu every second day..... the chicken livers were very good.... but we got it only 0nce
Hot springs
Accommodation is in dire need of an upgrade.
Warm and very welcoming , with friendly staff
My stay too short to find any criticism
The accommodation exceeded my expectations. The Mineral Rich Warm Springs were absolutely amazing! It was a great experience! Will definitely go back! The breakfast was delicious.
I wish the breakfast buffet served almond milk and hot chocolate - I do not mind paying extra for it.
Outside it is really beautiful
Inside the hotel it was not that great Hotel was smelly and room smelled like mould. They say that have room service but dont have room service at all.
Nice location. Good breakfast.
Rooms were a bit old. Old carpets and old decor. Kids club was not open and the games for kids were quite limited.
The springs at night under the stars was an amazing experience.
Nothing , very clean place and very accomodating and helpful staff.
My daughters bed made her itch, couldve been bed bugs. There aren't any restaurants on the premises to have lunch or dinner at that are halaal friendly. The breakfast was terrible. The fruit was old and soft. The flapjacks were like rubber. There wasnt a bigger cereal variety. The pools had poor lighting for the evening. The hot springs water smelled bad.
Somewhat clean but very used Old and tacky Dingy
Friendly staff, stunning views, pools, and spa.
Limited food options and order in choices. Noisy guests banging doors and speaking loudly in passages.
The hot springs.
Loved the hotel ...the king size bed was Amazing, the staff was friendly and very accommodating. Waking up to the most breathtaking views and not to mention the hot springs...I literally felt my stress melt away. Definitely need to book a longer stay soon.
Everything exceeded my expectations...happy guest here !
Hot spa's. clean rooms, spacious, spa facilities and change rooms. Breakfast fine.
Access from spa on side doors prohibited from entry from the outside, no handles; you have to walk all they via front reception. Towels for spa sometimes small; cause they run out large towels. Spa middle one needs to be cleaned; made my bathing costume pitch black. No gowns given for spa use.
Service was good. Breakfast was good. Location beautiful
Maybe parking for hotel a bit closer, but not a huge problem.
Breakfast was very good.Only Arniston Hotel beats it.
No complaints.Even guests friendly with well behaved children
Staff very friendly and helpful. Silence. Ambiance.
Not a wide variety of drinks at the bar. Would like to have room service as I was in a wheelchair.
We really had a blast. Everything was great!
The friendly staff
Sauna was closed and all the hot pools closed on the Monday. Only one lukewarm pool open. Don’t visit on a Monday
The staff was friendly and helpful
That there was no microwave to warm food
The property definitely needs an updating. The toilets are very outdated and need a refresh. The pools are lovely but the surrounds need an update.
The staff are amazing and friendly
The hot baths were excellent.
The lack of food places on the premises. The breakfast was mediocre
Everything was just great
Only thing that isn’t really great is that you need to call someone every time to make a fire in the suite.
Good value breakfast.
Smokers throwing ash and stompies all over our balcony from above.
for the price the rooms and bathrooms can be upgraded... there should be a block out curtain at least in rooms. and also expected slippers and a towel gown to use seeing that it was a spa hotel...
Bed was comfortable
The pools and beds was comfortable
1. No smart TV 2. A kitchenette had no microwave, crockery, cutlery with a really small bar fridge 3. Hence I had to purchase a frying pan to heat my pre made meals. 4. Management advised me self catering was not allowed to prepare my meals. 5. The shower water was permanently Luke warm
The rooms the scenery and the pools everything was exceptional
Easy access to the hot springs is great.
It's all a little run down
I loved the location and general setup of the place.
Some of the staff was nit friendly and the facility inside the room was not setup properly. Example of this is the TV, it couldn't connect to the wifi and you were forced to watch whatever was playing at the time. You couldn't add your our streaming accounts because of the connections.
The breakfast was incredible - wide range and delicious.
the spoons in the room, the small kettle and no iron although one was provided for when we asked
The mineral spa and staff friendliness
The shower in the hotel room. Water seeped through the glass and wet the entire floor which let us with no option but to bath instead of showering.
Serene well maintained and the pools accessible for hotel guests only at certain times. friendly staff
The atmosphere and ambience of the place.
I didn't like the stuffiness of the room with an odor of an old stench as well as there had been a baby cocoroach when I awoke on the bedding a live one crawling and today I see I have a blister on my lip. Please serious consideration of pest control needs to be done.
I liked that it was surrounded by so much greenery the views were so beautiful
The rooms are not sound proof so at night we could here evrything from our neighbours loud banging and muffles as well as people knocking and talking in the passage in the middle of the night and also very limited halaal food options
The staff were lovely The location is beautiful The eggs at breakfast were amazing
We were not allowed to use the pool/hot spring facilities on the same day as we checked out, which meant we only got to use the pools once on the day that we checked in. We were asked to pay an additional R200pp if we wanted to do that, Ontop of the R2500 we paid for one night's stay which actually spoiled our stay and made the stay not worth it. . There are no notices to inform you of this and nobody tells you this when you check in - we were not the only people who thought this as this is how it usually is at places with pool facilities etc (you get to use the facilities both days of your stay). The security guard who told us we couldn't use the facilities was also not the most helpful or pleasant
The staff were kind and the hot spring was so nice.
The room was badly insulated, and the people in the next room were making noise late into the night, walking around the hallways and making noises. My family woke up in their sleep. The child in the next room were knocking on the door, but the any body didn't open the door. They didn't line up properly at the restaurant for breakfast and cut in line. It was the worst. I thought it would be nice if the staff checked the hallways to make sure no one was making an occasional fuss.
Nothing
Nothing
Would need a refund or something in that regarde
Was always a regular guest at Caledon Hotel and Spa from a young age. This trip was the first time in about 3yrs that I came back. The only reason I would return again is for the hot spring pools
The facilities appeared quite run down, and they no longer offer room service, which was something I always enjoyed. Although the majority of guests are Muslim, none of the restaurants are Halaal-friendly. The breakfast was also very average. In addition, the bar/lounge area has closed down, which was disappointing as it used to be one of my favourite spaces to relax with my family by the fireplace while enjoying coffee. Overall, the hotel felt cold and uninviting, unlike the warm and welcoming atmosphere I remember from my childhood visits.
I had the most wonderful experience at Caledon hotel and spa. I went there to rest and relax, and I did just that. The Spa and massages was so relaxing, and the food top class! The staff was friendly and very helpful.
The TV in room, not really anything to watch on TV. The casino cards, it took forever to get it to work, and to remove it from the machines, but the staff is always ready to help.
I liked the facilities.
We had to leave because there was no water...Tsogo Sun refunded us and we will return soon.
The location, gardens are beautiful & the hot springs are lovely.
The hotel is outdated, it is in desperate need of a revamp, having a shower curtain is not ideal!
Birthday cupcake left In our room as a surprise😍 aircon was great, pressure of hot water in shower was good.
We could not watch Netflix and dstv had all sport channels. At least have discovery and crime channel to watch. Walking through the spa area towards the pool there was a zen area where there was a pond that had a terrible stench and every evening we went to warm pools to swim we had to pass that smell it was horrendous. The pond needs to be drained and cleaned🤢🤮 in our room 235 our hand basin was cracked and leaking so every morning I would wash my face the water would seap out onto counter making everything wet. We did report it.
IT WAS GOOD
ROOMS COULD BE MORE MODERN
Balcony and views of the garden and surrounding hills
The shower is in the bath
I loved that the breakfast section was halaalz
Wish there were more halaal options for lunch and supper . Other than that , no complaints
Breakfast was lovely
Cost was higher than the actual experience
Nice setting, great breakfast, tasty food at the 2 restaurants, friendly staff, unique hot pools.
Booked a ground floor room but had to walk a flight of stairs down to it. Room is not sound proof - children running in the corridors unchecked was very noisy. Long walk to the hot pools, with many stairs and no side entry to the hotel so one must trudge through the foyer after bathing. Dressing areas at pools are poor. Too many visitors in hot-pool area, difficult to find a spot in a pool. There should be better info and pics on the website.
Breakfast was ok, basic hotel breakfast. I have been frequenting this property for over 20 years now and it needs a serious upgrade. Service has been declining over the years along with the facilities which are extremely outdated. The Decor is stuck in the early 2000's. Room furniture are in a poor condition, worn sofas, damaged headboards, broken curtains. No gowns available as was previously available to use. There was no soap holder in the shower (I stayed in room 139) The hot pools are a distance away from the hotel and the walk especially in autumn and winter is not pleasant. No information was provided prior to arrival that they no longer have the toweling gowns available. We previously paid a deposit and were able to use it for the duration of our stay. Had I known I would have brought my own. The lighting to the pool is terrible at night and a serious safety risk, not to mention the slippery floors around the pool. On one occasion I witnessed 5 people slip on the paved area outside the pool within a period of less than an hour.
Rooms need to be upgraded, damaged and worn furniture needs replacing. Pool lighting in rooms. Mineral pool facilities needs to be upgraded and lighting at night is a serious safety risk. Make the toweling gowns available for use at the Mineral pools. It is really such an inconvenience and makes the experience unpleasant when you freeze trying to get to the Mineral pools and again back to your room. The main purpose of our stay was to make use of the hot mineral pools and the absence of gowns and the poor lighting really put a damper on our plans
Reception was not very helpful, the curtains in the room had a big tear in it, the water from the pool stained my costume, there was no buffet meal the evening, it was my husband 60th birthday and it was very disappointing.
We enjoyed the breakfast and the hot spring pools
The room bathrooms need to be upgraded. The shower and water temperatures needs to be sorted. It was either too or too cold. It could not be adjusted to a comfortable temperature. We also don't like shower curtains The restaurants also need better tasting food and offer vegan, halaal or kosher options. The smell of the restaurants was not good.
Nothing
R2500 per night, no Netflix and tv visual quality was very poor. They say they do room service till a certain time but they lie. We had a bath/shower but no bath curtain so everything got wet so you had to bath. Room card kept deactivating. Not worth the price
