Lovely position, close to the beach, perfect for our dog
The food was very poor - both dinner and breakfast.
Old world charm. Cannot fault the Property, The service, The Location. Beautiful hotel to enjoy the Norfolk coast.
Nothing
Lovely building, steeped in history, friendly staff, great location
Room was large and very comfortable. Service was excellent. Lovely relaxed atmosphere, family visited us during the evening. Lovely to play games in the garden. All facilities were clean.
A really lovely place in a quiet peaceful setting ideal for a lovely getaway (shame I was working). I could imagine being here with my partner, a great place for weekend of relaxing. The room was nice and tidy and I had the best nights sleep in a long time the pillows and mattress were superb. I didn't eat there as I went to explore Cromer but everything looked lovely. Staff were super helpful and friendly, the ground of the hotel were lovely.
Everything was great.
Lovely position overlooking the sea. Comfortable room Breakfast had a good selection.
Unfortunately there was live music which was suppose to finish at 9pm but went on intiil 11pm! Very intrusive near our bedroom. Quite expensive room which didn’t include breakfast.
Sea Marge is a characterful, historic building in a beautiful setting on the North Norfolk coast. The rooms are comfortable and attractively furnished, and the restaurant serves quality food in a peaceful atmosphere. The service provided by the friendly, helpful staff is consistently excellent. I would definitely recommend Sea Marge to anyone seeking a quality hotel or dining experience in a beautiful seaside setting.
Great location, beautiful sea views. Our experience of staff on reception was a bit hit and miss, but that didn’t take away from the overall experience. Garden games are available at reception for guests to use in the extensive lawns, which is a nice touch.
Location Lovely man on the desk on arrival Lovely lady on Reception and she was also in the dining room for breakfast service. Large rooms
It would have been nice to eat breakfast outside?
If you want Edwardian splendour and a beautiful cliff top setting with direct views of the beach, then this is the place for you. The food was excellent and we were both impressed with the young staff, all of whom were extremely personable, indeed it felt like they really cared. The barman even offered to let us choose the music for the evening, which was a nice touch. The hotel and grounds have a really nice atmosphere and it was a very relaxing and pleasant place to be. In terms of the room, the en-suite was a bit dated and it would be nice to have a some more upmarket options for the tea and coffee, etc, rather than just PG Tips, plus a small fridge would be useful. Ultimately though, the room was very pleasant, comfy bed, a great size and a wonderful view. We will definitely come back. Great breakfast too! Thanks for having us.
Great location. Friendly staff
Broader selection on the menus
Surprised it wasn't included with the room cost. Not much better than at a Travelodge. Not a great selection of fruit etc and coffee terrible from a machine Expensive.

Beautiful hotel with sea views amazing food and the staff were very friendly.
Pleasant Sunday lunch. Loads of food options on the menu to cater for all tastes. Lovely grounds and sea views at the rear so on a sunny warm day there aren’t many better locations. Only negative was the seating outside was in need of replacement/drying, and more of it in the grassy garden area.
We stopped by this hotel for a drink a few weeks before our stay, we really liked the look of it and decided to book a night away. Everything was perfect, staff really friendly and pleasant, room was lovely and clean and very quite. Outlook from the back garden was wonderful!! Overlooking the sea from a lovely well kept garden. Food was excellent dinner (roast lamb) and breakfast was also excellent!! Overstrand is a very peaceful relaxing coastal village which is exactly what we wanted. Sea Marge hotel was such a lovely place to stay! If you're looking for a peaceful relaxing stay away then this is definitely the perfect place.
Nothing. Everything was just what we wanted it to be. Perfect!!
Fantastic hotel, would recommend getting a sea view. Breakfast was superb.free parking at the rear of hotel.
It's quite a distance from cromer pier if you haven't a car and parking in town is extremely difficult. Would have been nice if they had a small fridge in the rooms
Lack of hot water in bathroom this morning.
Geniale Lage: Ein riesiger Garten, der an die Steilküste mit unmittelbarem Strandzugang grenzt. Was gibt es Schöneres, als den Nachmittagstee mit Blick auf das Meer zu genießen!
Another fabulous stay at our favourite hotel. We introduced our family to Overstrand and the lodges. My husband celebrated his 70th Birthday during our stay and as there were 17 of us staying I asked if we could have an area for his Birthday breakfast and evening meal. The staff were brilliant and gave us, decorated, The Winston suite. Every single meal was perfect, the staff brilliant and attentive without being obtrusive. If I have a criticism,it’s the menu. I can’t eat fish or pasta so found the menu, for me, very limited. In the past they’ve had a specials menu but sadly not anymore. Still an excellent stay with our daughters, son in laws and grandchildren loving the lodges. It’s our Golden Wedding Anniversary in February and hope to be back. Special thanks to Emily, Hayden and Gemma who took great care of us.
Amazing location with a beautiful garden
All was great
Setting
Felt over priced for food and drink also small room which was quite noisy.
Staff were very helpful and a great location and very safe to walk around. Would recommend to other friends .

I have been enjoying short breaks at this hotel for the past 15 years, and until recently, most of my stays have been very pleasant and relaxing. Sadly, however, I have noticed a decline in the general maintenance of the building, as well as a disappointing change in the attitude of some staff when receiving feedback that is anything other than completely positive. Our most recent stay was particularly disappointing. We had some constructive feedback regarding the suite we were staying in, but the receptionist at check-out became overly defensive rather than listening to our concerns. Unfortunately, there was no one else available for us to speak to, so we simply packed the car and left. I subsequently submitted a formal complaint to the MacKenzie Hotel Group, as advised, but after two weeks received no response. I sent a follow-up email, which was also ignored. I then contacted the hotel directly via Facebook Messenger. Although the message was clearly read, several weeks have now passed without any response. After 15 years of returning to this hotel, I find this level of customer service extremely disappointing and, frankly, unacceptable. It is particularly frustrating to have been a loyal returning guest for so many years, only to have concerns dismissed and subsequent attempts to raise a complaint completely ignored. Sadly, this experience has left me with no confidence that customer feedback is valued, and I will not be returning to the hotel in the future.
We've been going to The Sea Marge for many years and always use their suites. The stays have been great, very relaxing, brilliant service and a place we can just get away from everything. We had yet another lovely stay, but the checkout was marred by the action of one person. When we were asked if the stay was ok, I commented, as I have before, that it would be good if the hotel would remove the paint from the windows in the bedroom facing the sea, so that you could wake up to the sound and smells of the sea. Before I could finish my sentence, I was interrupted and told that the windows did not open. I tried to clarify that I was referring to the painted-over window fixtures, but I was interrupted again and informed that she had worked in housekeeping for 17 years and that the windows had never opened. I attempted once more to explain that there are two windows in the bedroom that appear capable of opening but was again cut off and told that no windows had ever opened. At this point, I gave up. I was not asking for an opinion or attempting to challenge hotel policy. I was simply offering a suggestion for improvement in response to being asked how our stay had been. Rather than listening to the feedback, the staff member appeared more interested in correcting me and convincing me that I was wrong. We both walked away and thought whether we would stay at Sea Marge again purely based on how abruptly and rudely we were spoken to, which is a huge shame as one person ruined what was a lovely, relaxing, peaceful and very much needed weekend away. I am sure the staff member may have a different perspective on the conversation, but from our point of view, the interaction felt unnecessarily confrontational and rude. In hindsight, I perhaps should have asked to speak with a manager at the time. However, I was so taken aback by the attitude shown that I simply wanted to leave. I wrote an email to MacKenzie hotels and the automated email said they would respond within 14 days. After 14 days I wrote again and just got the same automated response. I also messaged them on Facebook asking for a response. They read it and again, no response. I tried to deal with the experience privately with the hotel group but their lack of interest in my feedback has led me to leaving reviews so that other potential travellers can be made aware that they don't care about their guests, which is a shame as most of the staff at the hotel really do.
Excellent location - lovely sea views
The location was excellent, fantastic views of the sea. Good choice for breakfast and service was good.

Good breakfast, wonderful location, helpful, friendly efficient staff.
Nothing
Lovely hotel, nice location for different beaches and short drive to Cromer. Nice bar/restaurant and outdoor area.
Old style lift not easy with a pushchair
A great place to stay , excellent entertainment when we were there, great food and fabulous views Very helpful staff
One of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. We were treated like royalty by the staff. The knew we were celebrating our Diamond Anniversary. The management upgraded us to a beautiful suite and our table was decorated for our evening meal. Looking forward to our next stay.
Sunday lunch disappointing. Took 25 mins to get our initial drinks order. Had to wait over 1 hour 15 mins to receive our lunches, clearly our order was forgotten. Complimentary drinks should have been offered. Once food finally arrived we weren’t asked if all was ok. My roast was missing a couple of items stated on the menu and the pizza was overcooked, burnt on the edges. We didn’t see our original waitress anymore. Wouldn’t return and unworthy of the service charge.
Went for dinner on a Saturday night. Despite early time 6.15 and virtually empty restaurant service was very slow. Bread rolls offered were stale and requested additional butter never arrived. Food was limited menu but ok if expensive and medium glass of rose at £9.45 extortionate. Two scoop of ice cream dessert took 25 minutes to arrive and added service charge 10% an insult and not paid. Hope that this was an isolated incident but if not plenty of other places in the area offering similar or better value and service.
La posizione stupenda e la gentilezza del personale
I servizi sanitari da modernizzare
Superb views of the sea with an unspoilt lawn in front. Lovely old building which gave a sense of staying somewhere fancy.
No beach access as indicated. Restaurant food was lousy despite being expensive. Lots of tables in pretty places but all full with empty glasses as they don't have enough staff.
Lovely old hotel with spacious clean rooms. No Aircon but very fresh from the sea air and a great view of the ocean. Ample parking. However, there is not "direct access to the beach" as that path has been closed due to disrepair for years. It is a 10 to 15 minute walk to get there. Avoid the restaurant; the food is poor quality despite being expensive (the famous Cromer crab was inedible) and they under-staff it. We gave up on the hope of being offered dessert after being sat in front of our dirty dinner plates for 25 minutes.
Beautiful hotel. Friendly staff. Comfortable room with an amazing view of the sea.
Lobster was a bit small. I thought they had to throw the little ones back.
The bathroom and the dinner was good.
The breakfast was a bit below what was expected - scrambled eggs overcooked - and overpriced.
Loved the location and the grounds. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable. However I do not like just a rain shower, I prefer a hose too. The food wasn't that good and quite expensive.
Explained above.
Old fashioned charm but mostly modern the sea view. And garden.
Window didn’t open in room
Our favourite north Norfolk hotel has changed so we decided to try The Sea Marge, so pleased we did. Hotel, terrace, room, service, food and staff all exccellent. Wonderful location and grounds. Such a lovely experience after a few miserable weeks following health problems. Only one minor observation, UHT creamy milk in the coffee machines, really not to our taste, easily sorted.
A grand building which feels like an old friend, it has charm in bucket loads, the rooms are comfortable and clean and the location is stunning, just minutes from endless dramatic coastline and a good beach. The staff are super helpful and friendly and the food which we had was great.
Location is excellent and terrace and gardens make the stay very pleasant even if you do not venture far from the hotel. Room was quiet and comfortable. Bed was exceptionally comfortable with good quality bed linen and pillows. Lift is a big bonus.
Staff are sometimes overstretched and do not always recognise the needs of the elderly customers. Needs either a ramp or edge marking on the steps leading to the terrace. Chef needs to cook the broccoli.. it is not a vegetable that is easy to eat raw. Entrance and lift flooring needs replacing.
It’s old fashioned charm, relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. We have visited often and keep returning for the same reason, there’s nowhere else quite like it.
That we can’t come more often!
I love the history of the building/hotel and its location. The rooms are large and the beds are very comfortable. The staff were very helpful.
Can be difficult to park
After a walk across the cliffs from Cromer we had a lovely lunch today sitting in on the terrace in the sunshine - well worth the walk and will certainly return. However we found the staff unfriendly and very unhelpful. We took a walk through the garden and when we returned to theI realised I’d left a bottle of water on the table which I had used for my dog had been cleared away - as we had to walk back in hot weather I asked if I could get another empty bottle to use - the answer was no!!! Tried again, this time asking the male waiter who was far more pleasant - he disappeared off and returned not only with a bottle but he’d filled it with tap water. It was a simple request, they were busy and if she’d pointed me in the direction of the recycling bin I’d have happily fished one out myself
We stayed at The Sea Marge Hotel this weekend. Overall, it is a lovely hotel with friendly staff, but there are definitely some areas that could be improved, particularly around the dog-friendly offering and breakfast arrangements. On arrival, check-in was straightforward and welcoming. We were asked whether we would like a wake-up call and a newspaper, which was a nice touch. The hotel has a lovely car park to the rear, as well as a few parking spaces at the front, which was convenient. The hotel advertises itself as dog friendly, and while I would agree that it is to some extent, the experience did not fully meet expectations. We booked a deluxe dog-friendly room and, according to the website and what I was told when booking, the room should have included dog bowls, a dog bed and a towel. On arrival, there was one dog bowl, a towel, but no dog bed. One bowl is also not really sufficient, as most dog owners need one for food and one for water. We were also given the dog rules on arrival, and I found some of these disappointing. In particular, advising guests not to leave dogs alone in the room but suggesting they could be placed in the car is concerning and not something I would consider appropriate or safe. Our room, “The Driftwood”, unfortunately had a strong damp smell when we entered. We could not identify where it was coming from, but it was noticeable. The room was booked for two adults, yet there was only one dressing gown provided, and there was just over half a roll of toilet paper for our stay. Thankfully, after breakfast I noticed the housekeeping trolley and took another roll back to the room. We ate in the bar on Saturday evening, which was fine, and there were plenty of staff and other guests around. However, Sunday breakfast was a very different experience and left us feeling as though we were being penalised for having a dog. We were seated in the bar area, which was completely empty, with no staff present to assist. When someone eventually came through, we were told we had to walk to the other end of the hotel to collect our fruit juice, tea and coffee from the main breakfast area and bring it back ourselves. If the hotel regularly caters for dog owners in the bar area, then I feel there should be a proper breakfast setup available there too, including drinks and staff support. My husband and I ordered the full English breakfast, which was fine. However, my son ordered pancakes with fruit compote and cream, priced at £15.95, and we were very disappointed when only two small pancakes arrived. Given the cost of the dish and the basic ingredients involved, I would have expected a more generous portion, such as a proper stack of larger pancakes. We also did not receive the newspaper we had been offered at check-in. Overall, The Sea Marge Hotel is a pleasant hotel with friendly staff and a lovely setting, but the dog-friendly service needs to be reviewed so that it feels genuinely welcoming and practical for guests with dogs. Breakfast arrangements for dog owners also need improvement, as the current setup does not provide the same level of service as other guests appear to receive
I had a bar sourdough sandwich which was lovely and the staff were very helpful and friendly. However I sat in the window seat in the bar and noticed how very tired the bench I sat on was as wel as being dusty and the carpet definitely needs replacing. The ladies loos also are very dated. With such a beautiful outlook and sea views it’s such a shame it was found wanting.
The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for you.
It was very hot in the rooms. There was a fan but that did little to help cool the room. We did arrive during a heatwave so not the hotels fault.
Breakfast food was excellent but the service was really slow.
Not having to wait for 45 minutes for my ordered breakfast even though the restaurant was quiet.
Lovely hotel in a great location. Great service from all the staff and the food and drink was lovely. Nice quiet room although the mattress was a little soft, but did not spoil the stay, will be back.
Lovely hotel great setting .
Mattress was a little soft.
We had a Sunday afternoon Afternoon tea it was lovely. Service was top notch and have to say the scones were best we have had. Very kindly gave us a box as there was so much we had to take some home Would definitely recommend
Lovely hotel, fabulous terrace with sea views and very relaxing
Squeaky room door
A lovely big and comfortable room. Bed cosy with quality bedding. Tasty lunch on the spacious lawn with stunning sea views. Nice, relaxed atmosphere and building full of character and charm.
Lovely location, breakfast was really nice and the Hawaian Pizza was to die for.
staff were excellent,breakfast average,accomodation basic
Beautiful location lovely historic building
The staff at this hotel are second to none. A lot are young people who should pat themselves on the back for their kindness and patience with guests of all ages. They are a credit to your hotel. The chef and kitchen staff produce the best meals we have ever tasted and full credit to them. Lastly, a big shout out to the staff who keep the hotel spotlessly clean and fresh.
Fabulous location with clear sea views. Unable to use outside terrace due to poor weather but it looked lovely. We booked a classic double direct, it had a large ensuite but was very overlooked by another building (room 9) Cleanliness could have been better especially between the bed and bedside tables, it was very dusty. The bed/mattress needed replacing, it was old and sagging. Breakfast was excellent and some tables had a sea view. We liked having the self service buffet and hot food cooked to order. A relaxing start to the day. The whole atmosphere at Sea Marge is very relaxing, we liked the different seating areas and table top games in the bar. Staff were all very friendly and welcoming. We only ate in the bar area, the meals we had were mostly good. On Sunday evening our roast dinner was dry and disappointing, left over from lunch we suspect. We would definitely visit again, outside of peak season as before as we liked how quiet the hotel was. We came home feeling rested.
Lovely hotel in a super location next to the sea with very friendly team offering a warm welcome and great service, super on site restaurant with excellent food choices. The Sea Marge has clean well proportioned rooms and offers lots of areas inside for relaxing as well as some great outdoor seating. What a wonderful place, highly recommend if you are in the area' We will definitely return in the future
Room was clean and well presented.
The bar staff were struggling to cope with the demand on Bank Holiday Monday. I thought some needed more training and maybe there should have been more staff on duty.. A smile and a kind greeting goes a long way in your initial impressions. I told a member of staff that we would sit outside for a drink to peruse the menus as it was a hot day. Another member of staff said we should have been in the restaurant. They were obviously under pressure, but there was no consistency. I asked for water and it never came. Also in a formal dining room, you expect the staff to be dressed appropriately. Three things on the menu were sold out. On a Bank Holiday weekend that didn't seem to be good planning and organisation. It was a shame the food was excellent and the accommodation, but maybe the owners of the hotel are cutting back on staff and training.
A fantastic stay , beautiful hotel stunning sea view room and lovely staff .
I had booked the hotel at the last minute without any research, my fault that the Sea Marge Hotel is a very dog friendly hotel and I am allergic to dogs ,lol .However I was ok. I loved the area and would love to stay at the Sea Marge again but it’s too risky for me ,I enquired about the lodges they have but none were pet free. The Breakfast is superb and we were well looked after by Robert and Harry all the staff were friendly and lovely nothing too much trouble ,Sophie is a Gem . I wish I could stay again ..thankyou for our lovely stay.
Excellent
That the shower head was fixed. Unable to shower without getting hair wet, or as a woman, clean your privates.
The team at this hotel were exceptionally welcoming and friendly. The location is excellent with sea views and many lounge areas to relax. There is also a lovely outside seating area, Enjoyed a wonderful meal at the hotel restaurant which had some great menu choices. The room we had (no 3 ) whilst not being one with a sea view was a very good size with a nicely decorated bathroom and comfortable bed
The only thing that I didn`t like was the fact that I was only staying for one night, wished it coud have been longer
All the staff were friendly and very cooperative.
The pillows were a luittle tired
Appreciated the spacious room, sumptuous super king-size bed, and amazing sea views over sweeping grounds. The location was peaceful & quiet set away from the road and the staff friendly and helpful. The historic mansion was glorious and we loved the delft fireplace tiles. Stunning location away from the road, beautiful gardens leading straight onto the coastal path. A real gem!
Accessible plug sockets either side of the bed would have been helpful. Room was quite warm even with the heating off and windows open. Coffee cups too large for coffee machine, decaffeinated options and plant milk/vg biscuit options would have been appreciated. Appreciated the toiletries, some conditioner would have been welcomed.
Lovely room, bright and spacious, very friendly staff, in lovely grounds overlooking the sea. Dog friendly, could eat in the bar with the dog just not in the restaurant. Access to the beach close by. First night booked a table in the restaurant, great service, lovely food and wine, very impressed. Would highly recommend and hope to return again.
We had a very nice room with a great sea view.It was Room 2 and the bath was a jacuzzi with rain shower over the bath.We dined in the restaurant and had some fantastic local crab as main course. There was also a lovely, eye catching bar, as well as seating and dining outside. At the bottom end of the lawn, there were steps down to the beach and whilst we used them they were in a shocking state of repair and could be seen as very dangerous All in all, we had a fine stay at the Sea Marge, with all the staff showing kindness and friendliness
The hotel building itself is very well kept. We were given "the cottage." The only issues we had with the room were the very lumpy and uncomfortable mattress topper and we were put in the furthest room away from the dining room. Mobility wasn't the issue for us, its just the impersonal experience of being given a code to get into the hotel from a seperate building. Aside from this, we had the view of the kitchen window and dismantled scaffolding which was placed on raised decking to the right of our room. There was also a caravan next to the scaffolding behind a wooden fence. I don't know why they decided to park a caravan on site or whether they were using the green as storage, but it's questionable why you would put scaffolding and other items next to a guest's room. Looking on google earth/maps, its unclear whether "the cottage" was converted from being a storage shed building into a hotel room. It's just a very mysterious place to put one. The hotel staff were hard working, although it seemed as though a lot of young inexperienced staff were given an old stately building to look after. From my perspective this appears to be a management issue, where staff were working hard but didn't particularly know what was going on. The general vibe seemed a bit unorganised on the Friday and Saturday morning. Upon arrival when we were given the room key we were told by the trainee that it was on the 2nd floor of the main building, we searched the rest of the floors to see where our room was, we were soon directed by office staff in the right direction. We were later informed that the trainee didn't receive a tour of the building, which I thought was a vital piece of information management need to give all staff upon induction, therefore I don't believe she was at fault for this mistake. Outside tables need to be cleared a bit quicker. There needs to be a member of staff present in the restaurant at breakfast, they seemingly disappear for 20-30 mins and leave the breakfast room to itself, which is fine for privacy but there's no one there to fine tune anything. Again small things, but I think to improve the overall guest experience, those things need to be knocked on the head. Props to the Chefs for the great food and Estates team who have kept the main building and garden itself in very good condition. Aside from the mattress topper issue, the room was very clean upon arrival. Loved the shower, great temperature control. Although Overstrand is a 5 min drive from Cromer, the location is very quiet and peaceful.
Lovely property. Needs better signage out front but very minor. Great terrace, garden and sea view

Although we live several hours drive away, we have visited North Norfolk many times over the years and always wanted to stay at Sea Marge . Last weekend was our chance and we were not disappointed. This is a traditional and historic hotel and although it does not have cutting edge technology, and the WiFi is a bit on the slow side, this is a charming hotel. We had room 18 which a 2nd floor, and large, rear corner room and has lovely sea views. The en-suite shower room has been refurbished in the last few years and, besides the odd bits of chopped paintwork, the room has been week maintained. Breakfasts were not posh but more than adequate.
Comfortable hotel in excellent location. Beautiful garden overlooking the sea and terrace is a bonus in good weather. Good choice of food in bar and restaurant
Nothing
Beautiful building in a quiet and stunning location.
The bar area needed better and subdued lighting.
Location and beautiful building
The rooms need a refresh as rather dated and worn.
Superb setting with great views over the North Sea
Had to pay for breakfast in addition to booking
Beautiful building super comfortable bed, large room
Shower turned itself on in the early hours of the morning? Had been running before we arrived so floor was wet in bathroom, room did smell damp from this.
A great dog-friendly hotel with fantastic staff in a lovely location.
A beautiful hotel in a glorious position overlooking the sea. Excellent service and food, good prices and portions. Friendly helpful staff. So much history and well looked after.
Another excellent few days ate hotel . Always a warm welcome and excellntntbold world charm . Bar and food good quy with excellent cooked breakft over looking the sea . Quite village location jutvoutside Cromer
Breakfast was excellent. Staff were very friendly. The hotel was in a perfect location for our very short stay.
Recently renovated rooms in character property
We stayed for one night over Easter and had a nice stay. The hotel has a lot of history with the rooms being clean and comfortable. We had dinner in the hotel that night and we both chose the vegetarian options, the food was very tasty and the staff attentive. Breakfast was a choice of cooked and buffet and was very good as well. In the morning we walked the coastal path to Cromer that is not far away. Would certainly recommend this hotel.
Location, service, rooms and facilities all excellent!
Nothing to note
Very spacious and very clean
Nothing it was perfect !
