Good food and friendly staff
Could do with a bit of TLC in bedrooms
Breakfast was very good
Nothing
The town itself is lovely and parking was fine. To be fair to the management - they did offer a small partial refund for the issues we had to raise.
The room was very poor - very small, shabby, broken bits, dirty toilet, velux window was filthy and hard to open etc. breakfast was chaotic and the quality was poor. The other issue was smoke smells - as they don’t have a non smoking area directly beneath our room and also noise as there were people making noise directly outside until 2am.
Stayed previously at this hotel which is great value with parking.
Poor WIFI.
The wine
Food
Great staff, comfortable room, tasty food, central location
Swimming pool out of service
Great food, attended for a wedding reception and stayed the night, super breakfast as well.
Shower pressure low but water good temperature. The handbasin had cracks in it and the shelf above the handbasin was very slanted, looking like it may break/ come away soon.
Staff messed up the room small and cramp not what we booked not enough beds
Attitude of manager very defensive
Everything about the accommodation was excellent. The food was very good, and the town is historic and very interesting.
Very helpful staff food was good and a very quiet area
I enjoyed the weather but it was very hot in the bedroom a fan was provided just wasn’t enough to be fair it was the hottest summer on record
Fabulous location, great food and friendly staff. The room was clean and comfortable. Good value for money and plenty of free parking.
I can't think of anything negative about the place.
Nice spacious room, great location in a beautiful town
Breakfast was really poor. Eggs over done, a hollandaise sauce that was more like warm mayonnaise, supermarket style soft croissants
Location
Bathroom in room 18
The hotel is very beautiful from the outside and has lots of charm inside. Our room was lovely, although the ceiling was quite low in some areas. There was plenty of space for our luggage and personal belongings, and the bathroom was spacious and bright. The hotel has parking, although we parked in the square right in front of the entrance. The pub has a great atmosphere and the food at dinner was very good. Breakfast was also excellent, with a hot option as well as coffee, cereals, toast, etc. Highly recommended.
One downside: there were only stairs to reach our room (not sure about other rooms). For us, it was not a problem.
Lots of character. Excellent food. Great staff. Were were cycling and bike storage and cleaning made available
Breakfast
Room 17 very low beams required ducking into and out of bathroom. Beam above toilet meant impossible for a man to get close to urinate. Slanted ceiling gave very little room for manoeuvre
Acceuil excellent, personnel de bon conseil. Hôtel confortable et typique. Restauration au top.
Stayed in a single room which was quite dated. Shower was poor, water hot but not flowing. Shower cubicle itself was quite grubby.
Quite dated.
Great location in beautiful old building
The floor creaked very loudly all night above us - so much so you couldn’t sleep through it. It was apparently someone with a dog, walking it up and down at all hours, but the lack of soundproofing was a real issue, you heard everything. We ate in the restaurant, waited over an hour for the food we’d ordered to arrive. All very young staff, doing their best, but clearly need more staff/management.
Beautiful building full of character in a lovely quiet small town surrounded by big country with magnificent views, friendly and helpful staff that care.
Room was dated smelled a little musty
All good, meal was excellent...
Bed was rather lumpy and pillows rather stiff
Location was ideal for us, close to welshpool, and newtown. Staff were lovely friendly and accommodating. Evening meals were lovely home made and hot., breakfast was good, there was help yourself options toast, fresh crusty u cut yourself, cereal, jam marmalade, juice, coffee, speciality tea. some fruit, yoghurt. Not loads of variety in fruit / cereal but enough. Fresh croissants were amazing. You order your cooked breakfast. U could have full welsh breakfast, eggs benedict, omelette, ir porridge. u ordered your pot of tea. I had eggs benedict one day and omelette the other, both were nice. Hubby had full welsh both days. He said it was better the second day. U only get 1 slice bacon, 1 sausage, 1 egg etc. So not a massive bfast if u like a big one. Overall very pleasant experience
This is just personal preference. Bed was a bit small and uncomfortable for me, room very hot, and bathroom very small. We arent fussy just want somewhere clean to sleep and everything was adequate, & clean. I just personally didnt get a very good nights sleep. Woke up aching. Toilet flush was loud and went on for a long time. Scared to flush in the night in case we woke the neighbours. It also looked like it was going to over spill when it flushed. We got used to it, its just an old building and old pipe system probably
Great place with lovely staff
Friendly staff and an ideal location for our trip
Room could have been cleaner and was a little jaded
The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The room was very clean and comfortable. The location was lovely and we would certainly book here again. The breakfast was superb with excellent ingredients.
Cannot think of anything.
The staff had time and interest to talk and were helpful.
Slightly limited range of fresh vegetables.
Old and interesting building. Nice entrance hallway. Good parking. Excellent location. The food in the bistro was very good indeed.
The room was extremely warm even after the air had cooled substantially overnight. The toilet could have benefitted from a thorough bleaching and scrubbing. The room was quite small. There were no hangars provided for the clothes rail.
Superb location. Lovely village. Nice bartender lady. Delicious local ciders
We waited an hour for our meal at the restaurant because the kitchen misplaced our order. The breakfast was poorly cooked
Great friendly staff always helpful and willing to go though extra mile
Zero i’ve been before and this was my second visit in two years
Location and on site car parking
Very small room. Impossible to have a cool shower, TV did not work. Toilet needs a good clean. Remote control unit was filthy
Fascinating old building. Very friendly, helpful staff throughout. Delicious dinner and breakfast.Spacious room with lovely bedlinen and towels.
I can't think of anything! We thoroughly enjoyed it all!
Lovely breakfast fabulous location
No swimming pool
Staff were really friendly and the food was very good.
Our room was rather cramped and the beds hard and squeaky.
Lovely location Character rich

Lovely staff and great location, good value for money. Beds were very comfortable and fan in the room kept it a pleasant temperature.
A little shabby and not spotless as I would expect from a hotel rated as 4 stars. It feels like it needs a bit of TLC and a more deep clean. E.g cobwebs, dust on some surfaces, and the bathroom, and furniture was a little tired. Nothing major. I also can't understand its 4 star rating. It seems to be more in the 3 star category.
Location was perfect and although right in town was peaceful at night. All staff were helpful and friendly.
Would have preferred a shower to a bath.
Friendly, welcoming staff, a comfortable, spacious room and great food located in a lovely small town.
Excellent breakfast and evening meals. Sitting out area was pleasant and bar staff friendly and helpful.
Everything was good, the attic room was small but perfectly kitted out and comfortable good value for money
The staff were fantastic. But for us, the new cascading water feature on the rear patio made the stay all that much better. It was lovely to see the local wildlife use it as an area to bathe. What a lovely feature.

Individual hotel in lovely town
Single room was very compact but had all the necessaries
Loved my stay and wish it could have been longer. Staff were really friendly and helpful, room was clean and well equipped, breakfast was delicious. The location is lovely and I can’t wait to come back.
Nothing I loved it and wished I could have stayed longer
Les personnels sont très accueillant, la maison a de l’histoire ! Une très petite ville agréable à séjourner !
Un peu d’entretien à la salle de bain (plusieurs joint noir dans la baignoire et le bois à côté de la baignoire s’abîme par exemple…)

Breakfast was lovely
Bed was on a slope very old building
Old world charm. We were in the attic room and loved the character. Plenty of windows so airy and cool despite the hot weather. Good selection on tea tray. Good toiletries. Beds comfortable. Good breakfast.
Nothing _ wish we had booked an extra night.
Gorgeous location
Looking forward to eating our evening meal in the well appointed dining room which didn’t happen.
Montgomery is a town in a time warp! Delightful, charming, interesting architecture set in rolling countryside. The Dragon Hotel fits in perfectly.
If the swimming pool was fixed, it would have been very welcome.
Food and staff. Very quiet location
Nothing
The hotel is in a great location and has a great history, but the reason it was such a good stay was down to the staff. Everyone was very friendly and ready to assist with any requests made. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.
Couldn't stay longer
Lovely quaint building in beautiful surroundings. Well stocked bar and friendly staff
Not made clear that there wasn't a "full height" shower over the bath. Dated furniture in room.
Nice location. Quiet. Food was fine with a good breakfast.
Bathroom was a bit cramped for height. So not a proper shower.
History and location
Needs a little updating
Plenty of character. Nice bar
Poor evening meal and mattresses desperately need replacing
Bar, restaurant and staff good.
Dirty rag left in the room and someone's underwear in a drawer. Small double was SMALL with one very high window. Only 2 coat hangers.
Location but most of all the friendly staff
Too hot but manageable
Extremely comfy bed and beautiful location
The shower could be better if it was wall mounted
Food was excellent.
Friendly staff, nice room, great choice of beer and lovely food
Lovely period building
All good
Dinner good - home-made meals. E.xcellent breakfast
Lovely hotel in great location to explore the area . Clean with comfy bed and modern bathroom. Good evening meal in restaurant and breakfast with good choices. Would definitely use again . Thankyou.
Nothing all good .
Very welcoming on entry, a classic Welsh hotel/inn. Proper period hotel with a lot of original features.
Only aspect was the shower could have been slightly better but then it is an old building. No complaints.
Friendly staff, good bar area’s though expensive for what it is.Location good & free parking.Very good breakfast!
Breakfast a little late at 7.30am, place pretty rundown and in need of a major refurbishment! Not a hotel more a pub with rooms.£100 for single traveler I felt was too high!
Lovely location Easy to park and nothing too difficult for the staff.
Nothing.
The quirky little town
Parking was limited, but this was more due to an event on the day as opposed to what the hotel has to offer. Just unfortunate really.
Good breakfast, nice to have omelette as a change from the usual "full English". Staff were friendly and helpful, good choice of four cask ales and a reasonably priced restaurant. We particularly valued being able to store our bikes securely overnight.
Our room was very warm, but by leaving the window wide open, switching on the fan and removing the duvet from its cover, we slept well.
Comfortable and welcoming
Breakfast was so much!
Pleased to be able to park in front of the hotel.
Quirky and interesting
Room was very warm
This is my 3rd visit to the Dragon, and every time it just gets better and better! Staff here are amazing! Maya(??) was the perfect host and server, so polite and always had a smile! But have to say a special thank you to Simon and the lady on reception (sorry I forgot your name!) Simon came over at 10pm as my towel radiator was stuck on, and it was about 30 degrees in my room in the middle of a heatwave. Moved me to another room without quibble, couldn't do enough to make my stay as comfortable as possible! Would I come here again? As many times as they would have me!
Lovely old building right in the heart of the charming town of Montgomery. A warm welcome and a very decent dinner and breakfast.
OK, Montgomery is in Wales, but England was playing in the World Cup that night and the hotel was not willing to put the match on the TV in the bar. They said they needed to get the room ready for a wedding next afternoon. So, our party of four had to huddle into one of our rooms to watch on a tiny screen. Seemed a bit unreasonable in the circumstances. We’re two couples in our 60s and not hooligans!
Lovely quaint cosy hotel and restaurant. Nice staff, good food :-)
The staff were really friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The owner Simon was extremely helpful when we had a challenge with our logistics- thanks Simon! We will definitely stay here again when walking the Offas Dyke path it’s a great location near the path.
Nothing
Such a great place to stay. I stayed here on my trek of Offa's Dyke and it was a perfect spot - very good facilities, great food and very friendly people. Couldn't ask for more - thank you.
Breakfast was good and the location was perfect and very peaceful
It needed a new mattress on the bed and the shower was very weak flow for warm water but it was good throughout the tap it was very hot weather so a shower was needed
Staff so friendly
Nothing
Great hotel with loads of character
Good central location. Friendly staff. Great breakfast and dinner. Good shower and fluffy towels.🙂
Room was up in the eaves, had to duck below a beam to get to the bathroom. Hot, but fans were provided.
Well located in tiny pretty village. Very clean. Welcoming and helpful staff on reception who got our dining request sorted quickly. Friendly and pleasant atmosphere.
While very clean, the small double room was very small and the decor tired. Mattress slopes off the bed. Shower inadequate. Breakfast was disappointing and service at breakfast was very poor, possibly inexperienced staff who need training.
The staff were polite.
Plastic glasses heating on and boiling
Check in was straightforward. Very friendly Staff. Room was comfortable and clean.
Roadworks outside made it a little more tricky to get to. It would have been good to have been prewarned about these.
Efficient booking and check in. Secure bike storage available. Very helpful and friendly staff. Clean bedroom with plenty of space. Great food at a very reasonable price. Right in the middle of the town.
Room was hot (due to a hot day & night rather than defective heating) even with a window open. There was a fan, though, which helped.
Lovely location and ambience, with hundreds of years of history.
Nothing not to like.
Very good food, pleasant surroundings, convenient location.
Poor (inexperienced?) service in the dining room. Inadequate lighting in bedroom.
The evening meal was exceptional. Great location. Lovely old building
Rooms were not all of the same standard. Old bed in one room which was not comfortable. Breakfast was a little disappointing
All very good enjoyed our stay
Friendliness of staff
Couldn't watch the football on a large screen
Room was very spacious. Staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel location was great, in a quiet corner of the village.
Clean, comfortable rooms. Excellent food. Great staff. Good location with ample parking:)
Ticks all the boxes
good town centre location with easy parking, Excellent food
This is an old hotel, and it’s what we like, but some may think it’s a bit dated and the bar area a bit quirky.
Location and quirkiness of the building. The staff were very friendly.
Beds squeaked when you turned over.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast and dinner in the restaurant were both good.

Structure and staff and cleanliness
Very nice room. Friendly staff. Good bar and restaurant. Private carpark for safe motorbike parking.
Excellent friendly , non interfering staff ( but there if/ when one needs them) welcoming all, excellent breakfast. Credit to the business. My second visit here and will return again for events/ hikes etc.
No complaints.
