Provider-sourced guest reviews.
The staff were great and the food in the restaurant was lovely. The room was a good size, very comfortable and clean.
The room we had was right on the road and was quite noisy. Also quite hot, but a fan was provided which helped.
The food was excellent and the staff were amazing. Very comfortable room.
Slight smell of damp in the bathroom, but fan was up high outside door so I should imagine many do not switch it on.
Positivity and helpfulness
nothing
Location, restaurant food and friendly staff.
WiFi was a bit unreliable but only on one night.
Beautiful place really good tidy standard all throughout, food is always amazing every time we call. Bedroom was great clean tidy comfortable bed, bathroom was really clean. Staff were very kind.
I can see what some people say about the noise of passing traffic, but the windows do block some if it out when closed, but i don’t think the speed of the traffic passing in the night helps especially lorries as it is a busy road. But i still enjoyed it wasn’t a major problem.
Great breakfast , lovely area. Nice room.
There was someone immediately above our room 5 and they banged around all night keeping us awake both nights
Good value and clean
Busy road
Sufficient off road parking, a very nice room clean and comfortable.
Being on a main road constant road noise, staying on a Sunday limited dinner menu, the pub stopped serving at 8pm !! the bathroom although very nice had a few issues, smell from the shower drain, the shower control didn't work stuck on scolding hot.
Very comfortable
Twisting stairs
The food in the bar was quite good.
The hotel is on a busy road that had traffic all through the night. Even being hard of hearing the noise still disturbed me. The breakfast included in the price had a very limited choice. I left my toiletries bag in the room when we left. The staff did send it to me as I agreed to pay the postage but they also charged me £15 for the 'staff time' to post it. The post office is 5 minutes away from the hotel so I thought this was excessive.
Extremely well placed for cycling along the Newtown to Welshpool canal. We arrived at lunchtime and as our room was ready they let us check in early so we could change into cycling gear. Large, comfortable room with good shower. Good food in restaurant in evening. Continental breakfast included in price with an extra charge for a cooked breakfast which is a very sensible offer.
Located right next to a busy road - lots of traffic noise. Over loud music in restaurant for both evening meal and breakfast. Starter of artisan bread and dipping sauce included far too much bread (two mini loaves, three slices of bloomer and three pieces of foccacia - as a starter for one person!) and only a tiny amount of balsamic glaze (not vinegar) for dipping, with no olive oil.
Very characterful.
Nothing.
Continental breakfast very good. Good selection of yoghurts, cereals, croissant, fruit and lovely hot toast.
Noise from main road traffic in bedroom, limited wardrobe space
Continental breakfast included in our price, nuce variety and for a small extra charge a lovely cooked breakfast could be had
We have a very nice room , location was perfect for us to meet up with friends
Very clean, good food, staff very friendly
Road busy so noisy with window open in the hot weather
Bar and dining room and outside patio were all nice clean and comfortable. Parking was quite good. Rooms were clean.
The stair carpet up to the rooms needs changing was grubby and very dirty looking. The entrance access (metal staircase outside) to the rooms at night after 10:30 pm was a bit dangerous for anyone who has mobility issues or if someone had a few drinks.
Clean, friendly staff, great food and location for visiting Powis castle
On a busy main road
i stayed here a few years ago and the place was ok the staff fantastic the food was excellent it was full carpark was full restaurant was full no better advert
all good no faults for what i see as a pub with accommodation excellent and a great breakfast some hotel would struggle to beat checking in and checking out was effortless
Clean tidy friendly
The bed was very uncomfortable and noisy
We liked the whole feel of the property, how it was decorated, how it felt , welcoming . All the staff were welcoming , professional and friendly
The location is set right next to a busy road , our rooms window was on the road . Which was noisy through the night with passing Lorry’s whether the window was open or closed . If we stay again we will request a room facing the back
Spacious bedroom. Spacious bathroom. Friendly staff. Delicious food.
Traffic noise from main road.
Lovely place, had everything we needed. Staff were very accommodating and the room was spacious and comfy.
Good sized double room with modern bathroom. Very clean and all facilities as advertised. Large car park at the rear. Continental breakfast included in price was sufficient. Cooked options are extra. Very pleasant bar and restaurant. Evening meal was very good and option to dine outside welcomed in very warm weather.
Noise from bar below can be heard (it is a pub/ restaurant) but this ceased before 10pm.
Bed was comfortable, parking spot was convenient, staffs were very welcoming and dinner at the inn was very good. It also came with light breakfast. The Inn locates on a busy streets, yet no sounds at night, also easy in and out.
Great food, friendly staff, comfy rooms, continental breakfast included with room price
Gorgeous breakfast
Great location, good food and evening staff, very well looked after.
The morning staff was grumpy and I didn’t feel welcomed which was the opposite to the evening.
Location for my work men & myself. Lean, good food comfortable rooms.
Nothing not to like
The staff were amazing and the food was great.
Our room, no.4 was very noisy and the bed although comfy needed better pillows and it kept coming away from the wall
Super location for proximity to Garthmyl Hall. Amazing breakfast at very reasonable price and super friendly staff.
The hotel is very close to a busy main road which is challenging for light sleepers like myself.
Staff were extremely friendly, helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was lovely too.
No complaints.
Great pub, rooms & food
It’s on quite a busy road
Excellent staff. Very helpful and friendly
Everything
Leaving to go to the Royal Oak🤣
The food at night time was exceptional and very good. Bed was comfortable and very roomy
Staff on arrival seemed surprised to see us and a little abrupt. The room had cobwebs in each corner of the room and the tv had clean me written on it. The bin had been used prior to us entering the room. The bath water was like warm. Shower leaked. Breakfast was okay but only included cereal and toast. For the price I expected cooked breakfast. Had too ask twice for toast.
One of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in. The room was clean, warm, and the staff were amazing - really friendly and helpful.
Everything's great
The Wi-Fi was not working properly
This pub/ restaurant is fantastic. The rooms are very comfortable, nicely decorated. It is the staff and the restaurant that really make this place outstanding. The food and wine are excellent and the staff brilliant. I highly recommend it.
This inn is comfortable, nicely furnished and remarkably clean. The staff are especially welcoming and friendly. Our room was spacious and the ensuite modern, and our dogs were made welcome.
It wasn’t our first time staying and we were pleased to be accommodated at the rear of the property this time as it is situated at the side of a busy road. The front was noisy. I didn’t enjoy our evening meal as much as 2 years ago, probably because I am on a restricted diet and the meal I chose thinking it would be the best option for me, arrived totally fried and swimming in fat.
Character, clean and friendly
The bar closed at 10-15pm . You expect an inn to stay open when people are still in the bar to stay open until at least 11pm!
I’m a frequent visitor. Cannot fault it at all.
Nothing to report.
It was perfect for where we needed to be, and it was spotlessly clean
We had some beautiful food in the evening and I was catered for fabulously but unfortunately having coeliac disease it can be an issue and I was glutened at breakfast and as a result have been unwell for the last 4 days
Appears lovely, but didn’t get to experience it
Arrived early (1pm) and planned on enjoying their bar and restaurant while we waited for the check-in time. Unfortunately we were told there were two booking slots 3:45 & 5:15 to have lunch or dinner. Even as guests of the inn, we were not able to eat at a normal ’dinner time’. As only 2 guests, it was really disappointing that we could not be accommodated. Surely their kitchen can handle 2 guests (paying for a nights accommodation too).
Spotlessly clean friendly
Nothing all good Be careful going down fire escape to get out especially if you tall
Great location for a wedding at Garthmyl Hall.
Wouldn’t let us into the room even though it was ready unless you paid early check in fee.
The place was spotless - in the bar/restaurant and in our room/bathroom. Very comfortable bed, great shower. Good continental breakfast. Very pleasant staff, clearly motivated in their jobs. Good bustling atmosphere, clearly liked by number of people coming in.
Nowhere to put washbag in bathroom, didn't really want to put it on the back of the loo.
All rooms spotless. Bedroom well appointed and comfortable. Staff really were first class throughout. Food good.
We had a room at the front immediately abutting the main road. We could not cope with the traffic noise especially the “ thunder trucks” which seemed to run all night. Whilst we would certainly stay again there is no way we would accept the same room. Sleeping was very difficult. Sad to criticise what was otherwise a very good stopover one night stay.
The room was quite smart. Continental breakfast included good coffee, flaky croissants, toast and fruit. Restaurant food was good quality and the three course option good value
When we arrived the piped music on the patio area was some kind of rap music. I know I'm an old fogey but it's not what I expect for Sunday lunch service in a country pub. The rap/ night club music went on for a while but had calmed down to rock and pop classics by the evening. Staff were overworked and took a while to attend to us and show us our room. Service in the restaurant in the evening was stretched too. It was a busy bank holiday weekend and staff were doing their best. The bed was light, on castors and not attached to the headboard. Leaning against the headboard, the bed slid forward on the smooth polished floor depositing me and my Scrabble pieces in the chasm between bed and wall. We found and applied the brakes on the castors and this improved but didn't totally remedy the situation. Any more adventurous bed action might have had serious consequences. Fortunately after a long day cycling I didn't feel the need to experiment. Secure storage for bikes would have been appreciated
Overall very good, Friendly staff, decent breakfast, comfortable bed, clean bathroom.
Noisy room due to location next to busy road. It was a very humid and hot night so the window would have been open too but for the noise from the road all night. To be fair a very good fan was provided in the room, which made things much more tolerable.
Very clean & staff helpful.
Exceptionally noisy right next to a very busy main road so unable to open window to try & cool room down needs Air-con installing. Very hot with winter duvet & no summer sheets available. A Cooked breakfast was an extra charge which was not mentioned on there website poor continental was provided in the price.
Beautiful room, welcoming friendly staff. Perfect location for attending a wedding at Garthmyl Hall next door.
Breakfast & evening meal excellent
No carpet in room above so you can hear every footstep.
Food good and staff helpful.
Position, right on a main road with a lot of noise day and night. Dowdy bedroom and poor stair carpet. Hard to believe it was Inn of the year 2025, what can the others be like?
Very clean modern room, friendly staff and great breakfast
The staff were amazing, we had a medical issue in route and wouldn't arrive until very late, they're were fab and ensured everything was perfect for us. Can't thank them enough
Staff were great. Portions at breakfast were huge- it felt wasteful, when we asked the staff they said breakfast had been criticised previously for being too small, so they had doubled the content. Maybe they need to be more specific on the menu and offer 2 sizes at 2 prices.
Friendly and helpful staff. Good meals. Large car park Very comfortable ground floor room (especially for elderly guests!)
The location on a busy road was a problem in the very warm weather - traffic noise was a bit disturbing at night with window open (very necessary). But this is probably insoluble! We did not use the shower because the floor was very slippery. There should be a safety mat.
It’s very clean, comfortable and cosy too. So feels like home from home. Food is excellent too.
Love the different rooms - been there a couple of times!
The quality of the meals is suboptimal!
Nice modern rooms. Good facilities and comforts beds.
The door to the bathroom was sticking and needed sorting out as it didn’t close properly.
Friendly staff excellent location and good car parking We ate there in the evening and the food was very good
Friendly helpful staff
Room 4 traffic noise awful. Music heard from 7 ish from elsewhere Floor under corner of toilet door should be cleaned. Curtains in room do not block out light from HGV’s or cars. Or daylight.
The location was great for me as I was attending a wedding nearby. The staff were very polite and helpful. Large carpark.
Being directly on a fast main road the traffic noise was quite loud even during the night. My single room was very small and the sink in the bathroom was ridiculously small leading to water constantly running onto the floor.
Lovely clean room and bathroom, a credit to the staff. Ate lunch there but not breakfast, very good quality (gammon. ) Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Plenty of parking. If going to Garthmyl hall it’s a short walk along the main road, there’s a grass verge some of the way and then quite a walk up a hill along the drive to the Hall itself. Recommend flat shoes!
Stairs may be difficult for some, both inside and outside if coming in late, and in the dark.
Clean rooms it was on our route
The last orders at the bar was at 8.30 pm which we found out when we went to order The rooms on the front are very noise y from the traffic passing starts very early in the morning The continental breakfast was a Coffee, Cereal ,Croissant some fruit and fruit juice No toast no meats or cheese or Breads ,poor choice
We didn't have breakfast, but we ate in the restaurant in the evenings. The food was absolutely superb! The staff are so very friendly and the Nags Head is immaculately clean and tidy. It is perfectly placed for easy access plus car parking, and is located next to a canal which provided a lovely quiet after dinner stroll.
Nothing.
I first stopped at The Nags Head more than 2 years ago when we stopped for lunch on the way to taking my son to university. It has become our regular food stop as it's roughly halfway and we've never had a bad experience. This time, I decided to treat myself and stay overnight en route to collecting him and it really was a treat. The single room is obviously quite small but it does not feel cramped and has everything you need. The facilities were excellent. The staff were welcoming and friendly as always, the room was spotless and the service was great. I would definitely stay again.
The continental breakfast included in the price was a bit limited. The fruit consisted of whole bananas, tangerines and apples, some pastries, cereal and a variety of flavoured yogurts and juices. The hot options however are reasonably priced. I had mushroom Benedict for £7.50 and it was delicious. It wouldn't put me off staying again.
lovely place to stay
nothing
Great location. Comfortable room. We thought that the proximity to the road would disturb us - it didn't. Excellent food too and a super breakfast.
