Almost all.
Decor tired, gaudy and over patterned. Grounds needing love and care.
The hotel was a great location to stay whilst we attended a wedding at Maenan Abbey. Friendly hosts, very knowledgeable about the surrounding areas.
The rooms were not very clean. The bed wasn’t comfortable. The bathroom was very dated and couldn’t the shower didn’t work very well, slow running water. The price we paid for the room does not match the level of expectations.
Friendly hosts/ staff ; good food.
Somewhat shabby - in need of some TLC
Location was stunning! and very close to the Marin trail which is what we wanted.
The whole place needs attention! As people have already said it is definitely a Faulty Towers experience. If you looking for somewhere you'll never forget, this is it.
I paid a lot of money for what i expected would be a good hotel. The rooms didn't have the right mix of modern facilities with a period hotel.
The location was beautiful and the hotel had its own WiFi and access to streaming services
The hotel lacked basic hygiene standards. Hairs everywhere on the carpet and in the bath. Cobwebs everywhere. A smell of stagnant water/musty. Staff attitude at breakfast was passive aggressive. The four poster bed was filthy.
Manager was delightful, and the location was beautiful.
but the building seemed sad and unloved, and dated not traditionol which i think was the intention. I feel the business needs and investment of serious money but the possibilities could be extraordinary.
Location, quiet setting.
A little tiered in places, gents toilets could do with a good clean and a rethink on the urinal would be an improvement going forward.
The views were amazing, right on the beach. Staff were polite happy and helpful. Rooms clean and big bathroom.
I can’t
Location good, staff good. Breakfast good
Old cars in carpark need removing. Decor needs updating. Needs a good dusting everywhere. Shower in bath and very slow to drain.
Me and my daughter visited for a sad bit beautiful reason and every aspect of the stay was beautiful
Everything was excellent
We were so happy with our stay! The room was beautiful, spacious, and perfect for our family. The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and cheerful, which made our experience even more enjoyable. The location is also perfect for exploring North Wales, with so many beautiful places nearby. Everything was even better than we expected! We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable, beautiful, and family-friendly place to stay while enjoying North Wales. We would happily come back again! ❤️

The location is great. Lady in the morning serving breakfast and was very chirpy
The property was run down .Dumped cars in the carpark. The door to our room was falling off and had multiple screws to try and fix it.It was dark and knowing it was an old Abbey it needs a lot of work to fulfil the hype
We had a very quirky room which did need a bit of a makeover but the sheets and the towels were clean
We were right at the top so lots of stairs. Some of the decor needs looking at and photos updating on the website
Wow beautiful Abbey, luxury feel, comfortable and clean. Lovely sized room. Lots of history. Very friendly staff and cat. Perfectly cooked breakfast.
There wasn't anything I didn't like.
The hotel was in a perfect location, very quiet at night and so relaxing with a great jacuzzi.Great, soft extra large bed.The staff was so friendly and helpful and the breakfast was so tasty. The lady which served it was amazing, definitely will definitely stay again
Karen and David extremely helpful and accommodating. Our room was ready early so we could get ready to attend a wedding
The building speaks for itself. Very authentic and truly interesting.
Friendly
Animal hair all over the bedroom carpet
Staff couldn’t do enough for you, would definitely stay again. Amazing location and really clean well kept room.
The serenity. The stunning surroundings and the very pleasant staff. A lovely surprise was the excellent breakfast. Very good value for money 👌
Nice view from the window. Room was comfortable.
Facilities a bit dated.
The bedroom was a real wow!! The rest of the hotel was quirky and the building and surroundings stunning.
The only thing was the water pressure for the bath, by the time it ran the water became cold. That honestly was the only issue but as the rest of the place was great and staff so Friendly, we will definitely go again
The Staff we're friendly when we arrived and showed us to our rooms. The staff at breakfast we're also friendly and helpful. I thought the breakfast was to good standard and the range of cold and hot food was good. The rooms are large and we're aired nicely in the heat. Plenty of parking and excellent location
The rooms are all very dated and in need of modernisation. Putting a big screen TV on a wall is not modernisation. The family room was a fantastic size, however there was a Velux window in the children's room that didn't have any blinds or curtains which meant the kids were awoken by daylight shining into the room at the crack of dawn. The 'new' lights next to the beds only worked for one and there was a visible repair job and what looked like a DIY project and not done to a high standard. The beds - my god I think I would have had a better sleep on the carpet! In need of new mattresses, a lick of paint, cleaning of the windows (yes they are high up but you can get somebody to clean them every now and again. The electrical points were plenty, but they were very old. A few cobwebs behind some cabinets were discovered when turning the kettle on in the wall, but generally clean. The biggie - it's made clear on some room keys that the hotel closes it's doors at night so you need to get in using the new key fobs (which work great by the way). However, they don't tell you that all the lights in the hallway and outside are turned off and you need to make your way up the stairs in pitch darkness and forced to use the torch on your phone. It's a health and safety nightmare and my mother in law, who struggles up the stairs anyway found it particularly difficult by not seeing very well! If you must close the doors, please ensure that there is sufficient lights for people to guide them into the hotel and to their rooms in safety.
Maenan Abbey was lovely and quiet, ideally placed for travelling round. The rooms are large and clean. The food was good and the staff were so friendly plus very helpful. Plenty of room for parking
Made to feel really welcome by the host and other staff. Really lovely hotel. A good breakfast also included.
The host was very friendly. Location was lovely. Hotel grounds very scenic. The breakfast was tasty.
The inside of the abbey was very dated and not very clean. The room smelt damp and the facilities not good bed very uncomfortable. .
On arrival there was a warm welcome and the gentleman was chatty towards my granddaughter asking where we were going and providing tips to make the trip better. The lady at breakfast was friendly and helpful. The hotel had character and was beautifully decorated to match its heritage
Nothing it was an excellent hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay
It was a very imposing building.
It was shabby inside and in need of money spent on the whole hotel. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and it was like sleeping on the floor boards. The bath was extremely slippery and the overhead shower was so poor it made showers impossible. The room was very light and airy but had cobwebs everywhere. Overall we would not return.
Ein Hotel mit altem Charme und freundlichen Menschen.
Die Lage ist etwas fernab nächster Sehenswürdigkeiten und alternativ gibt es wenig Wandermöglichkeiten vom Hotel aus.
Looks great from the outside and the entrance was grand
Dated interior of the rooms
Location is great hotel is nice and clear. Brekfast is brialnt and dinner great is well. Everything is apsolutly perfect.
Very nice building good location, staff very friendly and helpful as noted in other reviews saying things could do with a re-Ferb but for the money you are paying this is excellent value and it is very very dog friendly the breakfast and evening meal we had were excellent
No baked beans with the breakfast ;)
A pleasant gentleman greeted us and, without hesitation offered to drop us off at the nearest railway station if we decided to use the train to get to Conwy and Llandudno during our stay. The lady who was present at breakfast was cheerful. The building from the outside is stunning. We had a meal on the first night, the salmon and tuna were very good, although being served with mash didn't quite seem right. Breakfast was good.
Room number 1 is classed as executive. It is very tired, everything needs renewing from top to bottom. The mattress has collapsed on one side causing you to roll to edge quite often. The bathroom is not good, one of the sink taps moves across the basin and requires one hand to hold it in place whilst the other hand turns the tap on and off. The jacuzzi has a split in the bottom and it could well be leaking under neath, the shower head is split and directs water onto the bathroom floor. The room is above the main entrance, with no air con or fans we had to leave the windows open, after midnight on the first night the local rotary club appeared to continue their meeting on the front door step, slurring, loud conversation and lots of laughing, it felt like they were stood at the end of the bed. The second night sleep was broken again around midnight by someone continuously opening and closing van doors and moving tools around for at least 10 minutes. Upon attending the bar I requested a glass of white wine to be informed they had some but it wasn't chilled, I then asked for a pint of lager to be informed they had none. Outside in the parking area is a number of abandoned vehicles, bentley, massarati, and one or two others.
Small, cosy place in a quiet location. Breakfast had a selection of cereal, fruit, yoghurt and cooked breakfast. I don't eat pork and there was no vegetarian option ie: veg sausages. Not something i thought to request when booking either. The booking states toiletries provided however other than toilet roll and hand soap there are no other toiletries which is disappointing considering the cost of a night's stay. The staff were very friendly and easy to talk to. Especially David, who went above and beyond to help us with transport due to us not driving and the location being so remote. The bed was made daily, and tea/coffee restocked. I was provided with extra milk, sugar and decaff tea on request. We ate tea there one of our 2 night stay, it was satisfactory. There is a TV in the room with Netflix. A communal room with TV downstairs aswell as a bar downstairs too. Nice views from the bedroom. Comfy bed.
Better toiletries provided. Maybe a veg option for breakfast and seperate cutlery that hadn't been touching the meat as other guests were just using any of the cutlery to pick up different items. There were cobwebs above the bedroom door. The location is so remote it's not easy to get to and from other than by car but this is a learning curve for us personally.
History
Very friendly staff, absolutely exquisite hotel and grounds. Very clean & accommodating!
Nothing! It was perfect from start to finish - the breakfast was also lovely!
Outstanding welcome by the owner and the other staff that were there. Speedy check in and even offered a lift to the hotel down the road for the wedding we were attending. At breakfast, we were greeted by a lovely lady who served us quickly and again was very friendly. The staff make you feel like they've known you for years. Great location.
Bed was a little uncomfortable.
Great old place. Ok it's not immaculate because it's old but really friendly and good value
The food was very good both evening meal & breakfast
The toilet in the suite was not working. The velux window didn’t have a blind. The shower in the king room was no more than a telephone box 😒
Many original features

The location to the Plas Maenan wedding venue due to attending a wedding during our stay (reason for visit). The staff were lovely, helpful and very attentive. Our room was clean, carpet was lovely and the view over the mountain was great! The breakfast was lovely and catered to all requirements.
The shower pressure was slightly disappointing. The venue is dated and could do with some TLC, however the focus elsewhere makes up for this and you put it down to the age and character of the property.
The location and food were exceptional
Very tired inside, wallpaper hanging off all the walls some in our room held up with drawing pins. Plumbing is shocking, gunk rising from bath plug. Random furniture dumped all over the place. Scrap cars in the carpark. Place is full of dust and cobwebs. Faulty Towers comes to mind. Would not recommend.
Location the Victorian architecture and room size. Food excellent and staff great
Old decor in the bedrooms very 1980s and shower room not very clean and so so dated.
Great, thanks
All good
Erg gastvrij en een super mooie familiekamer voor 6 personen, echt een aanrader!
Beautiful and spacious
Nothing
Building lovely
Room felt dirty , breakfast wasn’t the best quality . Nice location and nice building
Staff member was a helpful as he could be.
Very run down. First room I was given the door would not shut, tap was hanging off, ceiling was cracked and bulging from a previous leak. Given a second room which was better and cleaner but no hot water. I refused to stay and got a full refund.
Quiet surroundings and nice lawn.
My toilet/bathroom wasn't cleaned ...the kettle in my room had rust in it so wouldn't use it...very basic & minimal tea coffee sugar ...very dated and tired room in need of some tlc..couldn't open a window wooden frames were rotten
Breakfast good, pleasant room, unusual decor, slightly run down. Needs so love and attention.
Good food , great customer service , beautiful location. Friendly welcome. Good parking.
A bit tired . Mattress definitely seen better years .
The location Grounds outside Staircase
Needs work doing on it it looks tired
We were greeted and treated like long lost family during our stay. The gentleman that settled us in (sorry I don't remember his name) and Karen the next morning were extraordinarily kind and attentive.
Our prime discomfort was of our own making (too much luggage) but as our room was up at the top of the building it meant climbing a lot of stairs with bags. However the wallpaper in the room we were assigned does need to be refreshed, some was starting to release from the wall.
Everything from start to finidh
Nothing
Excellent, best ever, breakfast. Very good evening meal. Waitress was very friendly and chatty. Such an iconic building with such history and unique decor.
Ok, so the wallpaper is in need of a bit of TLC but only adds to the charm
Lovely old Abbey and looked like the place was refurbished in the 70s and like stepping back in time. It was comfortable clean and welcoming and I can’t wait to go back. Didn’t have a evening meal but the breakfast was delicious and plentiful.
Can’t think of anything.
The building is unique and the location stunning. The staff were extremely helpful - especially the lady in charge of breakfasts who was not only efficient but friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately there was a lot to be disappointed in. I dislike leaving negative reviews but would not want others to spend significant amounts of money on a decidedly sub optimal experience - especially when it turns out there are much better and competitively priced options nearby. The building is not properly maintained with many areas either not particularly clean or actually dirty. The bathrooms in particular need thorough refurbishments - ours had a revolting floor and cracked mirrors with an old shower enclosure. similar stories were true of the other rooms used by others in our party. The standard of even recent decoration was very poor. Basically the hotel is under invested in both in terms of the fabric of the building and the number of staff needed to run it.
You are made to feel at home here. Our evening dinner was excellent, as was the cooked breakfast 😋 Lots of character, just like our 1st class host David. Thanks a million for looking after us all. Hope to get back this Christmas!!
Nothing
Large rooms and lovely breakfast.
Had a good dinner, a likewise very good breakfast. Staff is really serviceminded and welcoming. Over all avery nice experience.
Really friendly and considerate staff.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate breakfast and dinner there and we really enjoyed our meals. Our room was very spacious and comfortable
I loved the old look very quirky and welcoming, room dated but that sets the ambiance of the place, very comfy bed and had a great night's stay after climbing snowdon. 😴 thanks very much 🙏
Nothing to dislike
It’s old style and character Friendly people
Nothing it was lovely, maybe evening meal was expensive for what it was however no complaints about the food in its self
Well kept and clean property.
Breakfast wasn’t until 0830 from memory, as I had to leave earlier there was no chance to eat.
Friendly staff. Very comfortable bed.
Plumbing in bathroom
Gorgeous hotel and surroundings with lovely decor that was both modern and classic together. The staff couldn't do enough, felt very family run with personal touches
Personally the shower was a little small but I am 8 months pregnant, some of the lights didn't work in the room and the heating was forever on which at 21 degrees made it a little uncomfortable
All a bit faded. Needs some TLC.
Lovely staff, excellent location.
Beautiful building.
Breakfast wasn’t great. But not bad.
The original features of the building were beautiful.
The room that we had booked with the whirlpool bath had a mattress that must have been 20 years old. We could feel every spring and see them when we removed the sheets. We had driven for 5 hours after working for 10. I can not express how disappointed we were. The bath was also extremely old and didn’t look like the pictures at all. The bed in the second room we were given was fine. However, the room was extremely unclean. There were bugs coming out from the woodwork in the toilet. The room was so dusty, I felt sick in the morning and didn’t eat the breakfast that we had paid for. After attempting to come to a reasonable resolution of the issue with the owner, who spoke to my wife as if she had a problem for addressing an issue, we left without any acceptable compensation. He didn’t even offer to refund the difference in cost as the second room was cheaper than the first. Luckily, we had seen how much the cheaper room was. An awful experience.
A friendly, warm welcome with an exceptional feel of throughout the whole hotel, staff are caring, beautifully mannered and make you feel right at home.
