Beautiful old house. Perfect location. Lovely breakfast!!

We did not make use of the breakfast room due to time constraints.. The meals we saw looked great.

No tea and coffee station in the room.

We met John and Kayleigh on the first day They were amazing!!!!!!! Made us feel right at home. The views were fantastic. The accommodation was superb. We loved it and are planning to return again soonest The staff made us feel like it was the friendliest place we’d ever been! And breakfast was soooo good

Absolutely loved the guest house. The view of Kalk Bay, mountains and sea, was exquisite. The reception area with bar and coffee facilities is perfect. The wood finishes on everything were gorgeous. The breakfast is unique and delicious. Staff were friendly, on the ball and motivated. We loved our stay.

Room picked up a lot of the noise from downstairs. Luckily it didn’t go on too late.

I had a wonderful stay. The staff were friendly, helpful, and engaging, always happy to assist with anything I needed. My room was spotless every day and maintained to a very high standard. The location was excellent, with all amenities close by, and parking was easy and convenient. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Wonderful accommodation, tastefully decorated, comfortable beds, good room facilities and warm and welcoming staff. Great location with a good view of the bay. Delicious breakfasts, and even a homely light evening meal was available.

Our only small complaint was that we missed having tea/ coffee making facilities in our room. Tea and coffee were available at reception but for a fee. A small issue but one worth mentioning.

WE BOOKED THE COTTAGE, BUT DEFINITELY WILL BOOK THE MAIN GUEST HOUSE ROOMS AGAIN IN FUTURE.

This is a great guest house in a great location. Friendly staff and my room was recently refurbished and absolutely beautiful with it's Scandi vibe and views over Kalk Bay

I cannot recommend Chartfield Guest House highly enough. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with genuine warmth, kindness, and care. I was in Kalk Bay ahead of a kidney donation surgery and, understandably, needed some quiet space to rest, think, and prepare. The staff respected this perfectly. They were attentive without being intrusive and somehow managed to make me feel both cared for and completely at peace. What touched me most was an unexpected act of kindness. When they learned why I was visiting, they upgraded my room without me even asking. It was such a thoughtful gesture at a time when I was feeling a little vulnerable, and it meant far more than they probably realise. The food was another highlight. Healthy, fresh, and delicious, but never boring. Each meal was interesting and beautifully prepared, proving that nutritious food can also be creative and deeply satisfying. The guest house itself has a calm, restorative atmosphere that makes it easy to slow down and breathe. Combined with the warmth of the team, it felt less like staying in accommodation and more like being looked after by people who genuinely care. Thank you to everyone at Chartfield for your kindness, generosity, and hospitality. You helped make a significant moment in my life a little easier, and I will always remember that.

Lovely setting with loads of character. Rooms well appointed and meticulously clean. Staff helpful and friendly . The food is exceptional. Literally the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had. So enjoyed my stay.

Das Frühstück war phänomenal, das Personal incl. dem Chef des Hauses Florian perfekt, der Ausblick auf Kalk Bay von Zimmer Nr. 4 umwerfend. Leider waren wir wetterbedingt nicht im Pool, aber ich bin mir sicher, auch der wäre top gewesen. 11 von 10 möglichen Punkten für das Gesamtpaket 😉

I usually love the Charterfield Guesthouse, I’ve stayed there about 6 times before. The main house is lovely

I booked the “budget” room as it was the only room available, unfortunately I also got the “budget” treatment. I was led out of the lovely house past the pool to what seems like next door’s old store room, about 2.3m wide. Comfortable queen bed but my bar fridge was outside. No view, a skylight that stopped the room from being dark. The room was R1250. Single occupancy for one night so not really so budget. To add to this, I was told that I would not get a lovely cappuccino in the morning like the other rooms as I was the cheap room. Really, a R35 coffee is too much ? No art, dingy cupboard, no bottled water, really not up to Charterfield standards :(

Nous sommes arrivés tard et l'accueil par le gardien de nuit était très souriant et sympatique. Les chambres sont suberbement décorées dans un style épuré et les lits sont confortables. La vue sur la mer était magnifique depuis notre chambre. Le petit déjeuner était très agréable et les conseils du gérant appréciables. Nous reviendrons avec grand plaisir pour un prochain séjour.

A wonderful stay! The breakfast was excellent, and the location couldn’t have been better – right in the heart of Kalk Bay. The staff were warm, friendly, and very welcoming, and both check-in and check-out were smooth and hassle-free. I would absolutely recommend this place for anyone looking for a comfortable and centrally located stay in Kalk Bay!

Upon awakening the following morning we found a significant amount of dried blood on the underside of the foot of the duvet cover...an attempt to hide this from the following occupant? Then, upon reporting this to management we got the distinct impression the we were not believed...the evidence for this being a pathetic offer of ONE FREE BREAKFAST...equal to R170!? In spite of this poor response from management we left a tip of 10% for the staff.

Fabulous location with stunning sea views. Young, energetic staff happy to help. Great coffee, tasty breakfast. Airy bright bedroom, large bed. Fab WiFi. 2 min walk into Kalk Bay - beach, tidal pools, restaurants, bars, cafes and shops. A well deserved 5⭐️

We wanted to stay longer!

Quality of property, rooms and excellent staff. Ideally located for seafront albeit up a flight of steps. Great pool and views of the bay. Excellent breakfast.

The Staff, Kayla was very beautiful and attentive, The room was awesome and very stylish, i loved that i could open the gate with my personal tag key I loved everything including the complimentary wine on arrival

Room was what we expected. Small, clean and comfortable which was what we wanted. Nice surprise was the table outside to enjoy a morning coffee. Only stayed 2 nights and spent most of our time exploring the area and kayaking.

Die Lage ist genial um Kalkbay genießen zu können. Das Chartfield Team ist sehr zuvorkommend und vermittelt das Gefühl, dass man zu Hause ist, obwohl im Urlaub. Alle Eineichtungen des Haupthauses können mit genutzt werden. Von der Veranda hat man herrlichsten Ausblick über die Falsebay.

Das Budget Zimmer ist super für 1 Person, für 2 wird es eng. Ein Berich, unter freiem Himmel mit 2 Stühlen und Tisch, sogar Küchenzeile und Kühlschrank ist perfekt für ein schnelles Frühstück und den Absacker am Abend, jedoch nicht nutzbar wenn es regnet oder es zu kalt ist. Leider keine Views.

The eyrie is an excellent self-catering guesthouse on the chartfield property. Has everything you need, is large and spacious, and feels private. Definitely worth the trip. The staff went above and beyond to help us with whatever we needed.

Most of what we disliked are things beyond the guesthouse’s control or we knew going in. Be aware that finding parking near the guesthouse isn’t always easy, especially during summer. The train is a regular source of noise which needs to be considered if you have young kids. We got complimentary breakfast on Christmas Day, which we appreciated, but think portion sizes are a bit wee for price if we had been paying.

Endroit très bien placé, on peu descendre à pied en 2 mn sur la station balnéaire de Kalkbay, pas d'insécurité, belle vue mer depuis les chambres, petits déjeuner payants mais excellent.

Seul bémol le train passe tous les jours à 200m à vol d'oiseaux du Guest house dès 6h du matin en sifflant devant la gare se trouvant en face. les chambres au dessus de l'entrée sont trop bruyantes dès 6h du matin.

Parking and the room - had No idea it was that small - so I was dissatisfied with this - but it could have been that I didn’t read the info properly

The hospitality was awesome and helpful. The food was great and the room I stayed in was superb.

I did not have hot water in the shower when I showered the afternoon before my function and the morning before my return flight back home.

Gesamt Konzept war sehr stimmig. Beginnend beim complementary Cappuccino oder Tee morgens vor dem breakfast im Zimmer. Großartiges Frühstück.

Der morgendliche Zug mit dem jeweiligen Hupen ist zu hören, aber die Strecke ist ausreichend weit weg, um sich durch geschlossene Fenster davor schützen zu können.
