Weligama Bay Resort

Great views, great food, great spa!

Wonderful relaxing stay at the resort. It was a shame we had to leave. Biggest draw back was the oil sludge in the water. Obviously not the resort's fault. Would recommend stay here.

Lovely spacious room with a wonderful view, pool clean and in a lovely spot, breakfast plentiful and very tasty. The staff were very friendly and welcoming - would stay again for sure.

The property was right on the beach and had a beautiful pool! The staff were very friendly and super helpful. Highly recommend!

The resort had everything we needed. Lovely pool and walk onto the beach. Food was great and wonderful staff. Its a place i would be happy to visit again.

Lovely resort in the heart of Weligama. Walk straight out onto the beach and the surfing schools. Very obliging staff and food was great. Nice pool and deck chairs.

The room was Fabulous and location was good but the Rest was much more 3dtar than 4 star . We stayed in 8 hotels in total some 3 Star some 4 star . It compared with the good 3 stars but definitely not the 4 stars Unfortunately.

Overall a really nice, comfortable place to stay. Wait staff, Marlin, and exec chef were friendly and enjoyed our conversations! Breakfast was good, dinner was good, grounds and pool area very well kept. The superior room was spacious, clean, and loved our balcony. Stayed for 2 nights, ate our meals there, lounged poolside for the day, and just had a fantastic leisurely time, which is all we had on our itinerary for Weligama! Would definitely recommend this hotel and stay here again!

Great location, can’t beat it. Access directly on to the beach, pool over looking the surf. Highly recommended.

The location of the hotel is very good and close to the beach. Very friendly and helpful staff. Everything is in walking distance or short tuktuk ride. Had an amazing time there and Will surely come back.

This is an amazing resort with amazing ambiance and staff, direct access to the beach and a beautiful pool, we had 5 days of heaven in a villa and could not ask for anything better, everyone soo helpful and welcoming, bed super comfortable, food delicious, very central to tuk tuk around to the beaches to explore, great restaurants around and loved every moment there

Amazing hotel just by the beach. Was in doubt between this one and the Marriott but after seeing both would go for this every day. Smaller, quieter, staff is the nicest I’ve seen and always happy to help. Room was just perfect, cleaned every day, AC, sea view and the pool and breakfast area were amazing as well.

The staff were so amazing. Noticed if we skipped breakfast. Lovely lovely place. I highly recommend the welligama bay resort.

The hotel is dated and in need of an update.

We were extremely happy to book this hotel for a family stay. Two bedrooms with huge beds, and huge bathroom. Its location is very good. It doesn't matter are you in swimming pool or sunbathing on sunbed, few steps and you are in the ocean. Not high waves (the highest we spot was around 1.5 meters) but kids loved to jump on it. You can rent surfboard or bodyboard on the premises. Staff is polite. Dinner menu was impressive, but we tried it once. As hotel has a great location, we tried almost all on the beach sea food restaurants at Merissa (around 7 minutes from the hotel location by TukTuk). The only issues we had is a closure time of Swimming Pool and SPA - 17:00. At other hotels where we stayed closure time was 20:00. If in future at least swimming pool closure time will be improved I would give this hotel five starts. Definitely will stay in this hotel at our further trip to SL.

Great beach front location, with adequate facilities. Some areas "tired" and in need of updating. Pool needs cleaning around the edges. Staff attentive and very friendly

It is clear they are feeling the pinch from the new Marriott next door, but rather than hold the highest standards for a unique stay, things look in mild despair. The restaurant was abandoned minus one guy behind the bar on the floor. Buffet setup was half thrown around only to find out they have stopped the buffet due to low occupancy - so why not clean it up??? The front desk never answered the phone even though there was no business. & when I asked for a late check out they were more concerned with my having bought the reservation through hotels.com rather than the hotel is ENTIRELY vacant. Why rush me out when they could go out of their way to deliver superb hospitality?

Just what we needed after a week touring. The garden villa was very clean and comfortable. The food was also splendid and the staff very accommodating.

Very friendly staff, babies and children are welcomed here

Great location, kids pool toys Available my 4 year old loved, beautifully clean, stunning decor, great food, nice touch with the flower arrangements on bed each evening. We had an all round wonderful stay

Très joli souvenir. Endroit charmant.

Lovely location and great staff. Little disappointed that I had to pay extra for an extra bed when room was booked for 2 adults and 1 child aged 11.

The resort is literally on a fairly quiet stretch of beach and board rental and surf lessons were cheap. Spa is great and rooms clean and comfortable.

We spent 5 wonderful days here and have nothing but praise for the resort, the staff and the value for money ratio. Within walking distance of Weligama and a short Tuk-tuk ride from Marissa, you are far enough out of but close enough to the hustle and bustle. Situated on the beach is perfect for decent rest and relaxation.

Bra service, nära stranden, mycket god mat, mysigt område!

Hotel has a reasonable location at the beach, the staff are polite and nice but the wifi has never worked during our stay and the staff of the SPA did not show up for work during two consecutive days...Not recommended. There are much better alternatives in Mirissa.

This hotel is situated nicely on a beach that is great for beginner surfers. However, the rooms are a bit tired. The staff provides nice little touches like flowers on the bed, but then there are oddities like a glass dish on the night table that is cracked and chipped, and squashed mosquitos on the walls that have not been cleaned off. The restaurant is next to the beach, and breakfast was decent, but the flies are a bit crazy. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly. Bathrobes are sized for very small people - our 5'4" lady found them small so imagine me at 6'2". Cigarette burn hole in the bed sheet, shower didn't drain toward the drain but pooled at the other end. The first two nights we had some open no-name shampoo and lotion bottles which were later replaced with the more traditional screw top bottles. At the end of the day it's a decent stay but we have visited hotels in Sri Lanka for the same price that were far superior in terms of room, amenities, and quality of restaurant.

First of all the good points : the beach is great and the staff is very nice !!! BUT .... the hotel seriously need some maintenance and care on several points. We are a family of 4 and so we always book 2 rooms. The 2 rooms that they gave us initially had a quite strong smell of mold . In addition to that one of the aircon was dripping water like a fountain and one of the courtains could not be raised . Very kindly they proposed us to change . We visited a junior suite . Very nice big double room , but the mold smell in the bath room was really unbearable. We finally settle for two rooms in one of the bungalows. Quite nice , also because there were much less noise from the main room. OK , still the bathrooms were a bit smelly ( seems to be a generalized issue ), still one of the courtains could not be raised , and we discover later that one of the rooms aircon was indeed working but was not producing any cold air ... and in the same room the fan regulator was borken so it was either not working or producing a noise like an airplane propeller. Result of all that : I was unable to sleep properly for 3 nights . Cleaning in the commonm area also present some opportunities for improvement . The Marriot Hotel construction site next to the Hotel generate quite some dust , which coates the common areas .... and those are not cleaned and you feet get literally coated also. Last surprise , was a couple of metal wires in the pool. So in short : disappointed !!!!

Very chilled. On beach with lovely sand and surf

Decent hotel

Great location right on the beach, and beautiful hotel premises. The rooms are very dirty and unfortunately badly maintained. Barely looked like they had cleaned it from the previous guests. Dirty towels, and holes in the bed linen. Dirt on lamps, shelfs and toilet. The boys working in the reception area has no dedication at all. The guys working behind the reception are very nice and helpful. The restaurant people are lovely. Breakfast is ok. Sometimes buffet, sometimes a la carte. It was unfortunately not worth the money for us, as we paid quite a lot to stay there. And it is just overall very bad maintained. They put lovely flowers on the bed each morning, and really made an effort when we asked though. But I hope they will step it up a notch, because the location on the quiet surfer beach if awesome.

The hotel is nice but more than half of its rooms are empty even in popular season in December so don't book in advance as you will get a much better price when your travel date is near (or even last minutes booking) as most of the rooms are not really booked! Don't believe the booking system. The other thing to complain about is that in the morning buffet room, so many flies are flying around and on the food. The staff paid no attention to this. You can imagine how bad the kitchen can be! It would be easily overtaken by the nearby now-building Marriott unless it lowers its price by 1/3.

Amazing stay, perfect spot right on the beach. Staff were great, so friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was lovely, from menu or buffet. Definitely return!

We had an awesome time and would love to go back. The kids had lots of fun boogie boarding and it was fun watching the surfers. Hotel was excellently managed by the lovely and very personable Katerina and staff were very helpful. We really enjoyed the food as well. The only drawbacks for me was the building of the Marriott hotel nextdoor, which spoiled the ambience a bit and we found the beds a bit uncomfortable.

Bring your noise-cancelling headphones!

had a very enjoyable stay, staff were great, right on beach great place for relaxing holiday food was good

This is an extremely nice small resort hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was good, and the view and the beach were great. There was really only downside to this hotel, which is that there is a large building being constructed next to it, which is a bit of an eyesore and can be noisy, although it was never too bad. Nothing the hotel can do about that, though.

hotel is clean and comfort, service is good. the see is clean and beautiful. this hotel is more suitable for peason who like quiet world.I stay 3 days, all is good.i like it .I like to try different feelings.

the hotel was fantastic, clean, tidy and comfortable. the staff were out of this world, nothing was to much trouble. i traveled to watch the cricket in Galle and although prices everywhere seem to be inflated the hotel was still very good value.

Quiet, sweet place directly on the beach, perfect for resting.

Nice hotel, very clean and maintained, good food. We were in one of the Villas which are spacious and Indian style, really nice. Staff is perfect, helping and nice and the hotel has also very decent prices of trips. However, 2 comments: bathroom would need a little painting (nothing big though) and the location is not ideal (nothing much around). Nevertheless, just take a taxi to get you around Sri Lanka (regardless location of your hotel) and enjoy nice relaxing atmosphere of the hotel accompanied by very good service.

A bit isolated for my liking but very relaxing and quiet if that is what you are after. Restaurant food was a little disappointing and due to where the hotel is located really didn't have the choice of eating elsewhere. However, the restaurant right on the beach was just a fantastic setting and the restaurant staff (as were all Weligama staff) were excellent. Pool area needs a bit of attention but as we were right on the beach we didn't use the pool. A gym would be good. The room was extremely comfortable and clean. Weligama Bay is a beautiful spot and swimming in the Bay a great experience. Overall a great stay.

-the resort is too far away from Colombo and I suggest staying overnight at Colombo before traveling to the resort location. -they allow astry dogs in the resort, althogh dogs are well behaved, but I did not like it. I do not like dogs any way and when these dogs are astry!!! you do not know how sick they are. -the resort is not seculuded from the beach side.(no private beach) - there is no night life in the area and it is unsafe to be outside the resort after 8pm. -very bad TV channels. no access to most western news or show channels. - the food served at the beach is good taste but cold most of the time. and because the beach front is open, flys are very present sharing your food.

Weligama Bay Resort is a fantastic hotel just a pity they allow their service to drag them down. The rooms were beautifull, clean and comfortable. It has a fantastic beach with really good surf and it is well situated to enjoy a couple of good sights and sounds of Sri Lanka. The food was good, but unfortunately inconsistent in portion sizes. Which brings me to the dissapointing part of the stay which was their overall service. The service in the restaurant was severely lacking, having to repeat orders several times and sometimes after you have finished your breakfast your eggs arrive. The housekeeping staff was friendly, however not considerate of peoples privacy as they were constantly knocking and wanting to clean after repeatedly told to come back in an hour as we were getting ready in the mornings and even after we had gone to bed at night they were knocking for no apparant reason. I booked a massage at the spa for a specific time as we were going on an excursion and had to wait almost 20 minutes for them to arrive and then cutting my treatment short with 15 minutes and still charging the full price. Weligama Bay resort has the potential to be the best if they can seriously improve their service to the standard of a 5* resort.

I enjoyed my stay here and had a relaxing time at the hotel. I would recommend to friends and if I was in Southern Sri Lanka would probably stay again. My only gripe would be the Restaurant. - Cutty Sark. Food was hit and miss and the waiters constantly got the orders wrong. Service was so laid back at breakfast that many people had to get their own drinks as waiter service was lackluster, slow and many waiters were downright lazy. There was also a fly infestation problem at the Cutty Sark so would recommend if you do stay take citronela candles to your meals!! Had no problems with the hotel and was impressed that this boutiques style hotel also had a lift. Unfortuanely the hotel pool as a tad small and is not helped with the broken down Jaccuzzi hat needs to be cleaned and repaired. Overall a arelaxing place, but no where near perfect or 5 star.

was great combination of beach, spa, sightseeing & shopping sunsets were unforgettable
