Amazing location and rooms
Lacking proper management and therefore properly trained staff
Amazing location and room was finished to a high standard. The lake and fell views were lovely and we walked in the fells straight from the hotel.
Breakfast room lacked a little character and price was a little high. Also, our TV had no sound.
Location Public rooms Decor was to a high standard.
Advance booking. I booked for my group of 4 (3 rooms) with my credit card in January for a stay in September. The FULL amount £4600 was taken from my card immediately and the terms did not allow for easy cancellation. Restaurants: Pretentious menu and pricy. This was OK for the main top quality dining facility charging top price for good quality, but not for the 'Ramblers' pub bar which was still expensive but had a very limited and unimaginative menu After two evening meals ended up eating in the hotel next door. No printed hotel information in the rooms. Expected you to use your phone to access information. Couldn't when I arrived because my phone battery was flat. Seems like a cheap economy. Had an interesting discussion over breakfast with my friends on how to operate the shower. Two unlabelled knobs providing non standard controls. My shower reduced to a dribble when the toilet was flushed. Lots more minor annoyances. Some switches didn't seem to do anything. Not a single USB outlet on any of the sockets. No TV remote control on arrival - took 2 days to get a replacement.
The food was really good in great surroundings. Fantastic proximity to the walk we wished to do. So nice to see the doggies in the hotel too:)
Maybe the bar could be open a little later, especially on a Saturday night.
both restaurants were as expected food was delicious
nothing
Everything was scenic, it was just the lady at reception who was more than rude on our arrival and less than helpful.
The Lakes Restaurant is excellent and the staff are absolutely brilliant
Location - just stunning, dinner was great and the staff are very friendly!
Beautiful hotel in a fabulous location. Amazing views. Comfortable beds and bedding. Easy parking.
The maître de at breakfast was the only member of staff we interacted with who had any training I’ve never been served a whisky in a cordial glass at a top hotel before.
Have been several times before. Beautiful location and relaxing atmosphere.
Wedding at location everyday. Sometimes feel ordinary guests are treated a bit second class in favour of wedding party. I understand why, a wedding package is very expensive but other guests pay a high premium as well.
The views and location are lovely and beautiful. The staff at the candle room pub are really nice and helpful.
The only positive aspects of this hotel are the lovely location and scenic views. We booked what we hoped would be a relaxing stay to decompress from the stress of sorting out local wedding preparations, but the experience was completely ruined by unacceptable standards. Cleanliness & Hygiene After being out and about all day following check-in, we returned simply wanting to rest. At bedtime, we were horrified to find stains and blood on the pillows. Worse still, when we woke up, we realized there were also blood stains inside the duvet we had slept under. When we went to shower in the morning, the bath was filthy, covered in dried yellow stains and dead flies, making it completely unusable. Service & Dog-Friendly Restrictions While advertised as dog-friendly, pets and their owners are confined to one specific area where staff completely forget about you. You constantly have to stand up and hunt down staff just to get basic service. At dinner in the Orangery, we were refused outside seating, only to watch staff seat and serve other guests outside moments later. Breakfast was equally disorganized: coffee was brought out without cups or spoons (which we had to search for ourselves), and my husband’s toast never arrived, forcing him to eat his cooked breakfast before it went cold. The sole bright spot was the two male staff members in the candle room pub, who were genuinely friendly and helpful. Management & Customer Care The hotel’s official contact email bounced, so the manager gave us her personal email promising to forward our complaint internally. We never received a response, an explanation, or a meaningful refund—they merely knocked off an inexpensive dinner. Between the dreadful hygiene, the negligent service, and management's complete disregard for guest issues, this hotel fell far short of expectations. We cannot recommend staying here.
Great location and lovely buildings and grounds
Trying to book in 10 minutes before three was impossible. No welcome greeting. All bars closed before 10 pm on first night so we had to go to a local pub for a drink. Waiter service for breakfast was poor and on one occasion when a waiter was asked about taking a hot breakfast order as we’d been waiting for 15 or more minutes we started to get list of problems he’d got rather than just taking the food order.
well maintained. upgraded to a high modern standard without spoiling its character. The idyllic setting.
Nothing.
Service at Breakfast was a bit hit and miss
Location
Mattress was worn out, lumpy, uncomfortable. Some Hospitality staff were rude and kept saying they are short staffed. Cocktails came from a premix, unable to make one from scratch but still charged full prices. No fridge in room.
The view was spectacular
Very little atmosphere in the restaurants Shower a little temperamental
The visit lived up to expectations. Having travelled in the Lakes over many years we always thought it would be lovely to stay at the "Inn on the Lake". We live within a day trip so have not stayed in the Lakes very much.
We found it difficult to open window and had to ask for help. Also the Duvet was was winter weight!
Breakfast inconsistent. Excellent the first day, not as good the second day. The evening meal in the lakeside restaurant was lovely and the view was stunning.
The breakfast on the second day could have been better. My fiancé had a full English both days. First day delicious. The second day was dried up, wasn’t as well cooked and had to ask for the egg as arrived minus it. The plate was hot and the beans were dried up as if it had been on the pass for a while.
Everything
Sadly the pitch and putt was not available to use as indicated in all activities. It this is not going to be available please remove from website and activities area as we were looking forward to using it so much
Location and lake views.
Noisy wedding guests. W as drove unusable as clothes hangers kept collapsing so unable to hand any clothes.
Such a peaceful place to spend a few days away. Convenient as there is shops just across the street, restaurants attached to the hotel as well as kayaking facilities next to the hotel (although to associated with the hotel). Very well maintained property
Some hidden areas in the toilet are slightly mouldy, easily removed by mould remover. I really do hope that this property will be well maintained for us to return again next time!
The views of Lake Ullswater and freedom to walk in the garden Restaurant staff polite , considerate and attentive Comfortable bed and great facilities
Just a possible request that bedrooms be stocked with a few gluten free treats My husband enjoyed the cookies but I had nothing to go with my hot drinks
STAFF - HORRENDOUS
Excellent location
Nothing to dislike
Lovely location, beautiful views.
Food was average, service was terrible
Just Perfect
Only two nights
Lovely Hotel in a beautiful environment with attentive staff..we shall be coming back in the future...nothing was too much trouble with a wonderful breakfast with many options..thank you
Everything was wonderful.

Location
The Hotel was excellent in terms of facilities, service and location.
My room didn’t have a view and crows or jackdaws were nesting outside the window, and were noisy in the mornings
Great location on Ullswater and nice room. Shame about everything else!!
This hotel has a lot of potential for a nice break but it focusses on weddings, with other guests treated as 'extra revenue' only. There is no attention to the experience provided for non-wedding guests, despite a room costing circa £350 per night. There is no notification ahead of your booking to tell you there is a wedding every day and to advise facilities, such as the only bar, will be closed. You are just expected to turn up and see a sign that tells you that. The Orangery restaurant was worse than a Wetherspoons, with children crawling over the floor and groups of wedding guests standing, gathered around tables where non-wedding guests were expected to pay to eat their meals, whilst they were drinking and being extremely noisy. As the hotel manager told us, "we dont have to tell you our hotel business plan for wedding business"!! I've never met such a rude hotel manager who lacks any form of customer service training. When the bar finally did open at 7pm (an hour after reception had told us it would), the bar was filthy and the bar staff, on top of noisly restocking the bar, were openly and loudly moaning in front of non-wedding guests about the wedding party about some nonsense to do with presentation of room keys. A good hotel manager would have just apologised for any bad experience at the hotel when these points were brought to his attention, asking what could be done to improve our stay. No such luck at this place, with the manager going on about his hotel business plan (which was completely irrelevant). My husband was the one to ask about an option of eating in a quieter room, not the manager suggesting this. The free bottle of wine offered as an after thought, whilst a form of goodwill gesture, was too late to make up for the rude staff/manager behaviour and our overall experience of this place. We definitely would not stay again and do not recommend this place to anyone unless you are part of a wedding party.
Great room with superb view. Food excellent and staff friendly and professional.

So comfortable... Food was so amazing, Staff very welcoming.. Hotel room om relaxing, wow factor for a standard room..
Not all items on the breakfast menu were available. Bar staff were incapable of serving a G&T correctly.
Most beautiful grounds and location. Newly refurbished room.
Excellent wedding venue
Breakfast was great apart from the first morning when they messed up our order.
There is a large boulder that overhangs one of the car parking spaces. I reversed into the spot and caught the front bumper and alloy wheel. Now have a £850 repair bill.
The Hotel is in the most beautiful position looking onto the lake and we had a great lake view from our bedroom! The staff are very pleasant and nothing was too much trouble
Nothing
The view and the room. Staff were very helpful and pleasant
Nothing
The view from our 4 posted bedroom was amazing looking over Ullswater and the gardens.
Although the room had a 4 poster bed it was very hard no mattresses topper and when you turned over in bed the frame rattled.
Beautiful place. Wonderful views. Good location.
A truly remarkable location with amazing views down the lake . The staff were super helpful and welcoming
The location is tremendous with access to the lake. Clean and simply furnished
We were disappointed with our room. The description was Superior double room with a choice of lake views or of Helvelyn mountain. I chose the Mountain View. The room view was overlooking extensive areas of ugly roofs and air conditioning units with noise all night. Two very small attic windows, only one opened minimally. We had to bend down to get a glimpse of the mountains. The ‘art’ was awful looking like cheap wall fillers. Fake flowers around the hotel didn’t help. Lacks any feeling of grandeur to compliment the surrounding landscape. The first breakfast 8.30am was disappointing no fresh fruit at all only tinned. No yoghurt waiting for a delivery! Cold egg on cheap sourdough soggy avocado. Tea took 20 mins to arrive. We took our own fruit the second day. We are vegetarian so ate side dishes in the main restaurant for my husbands birthday dinner.
Location and staff
The fact that the lift wasn’t working made life very difficult for my wife with mobility issues. Despite what we were told on arrival we did not receive any phone calls from the hotel or voice mail informing us of the issue.
Beautiful position , lovely breakfast and helpful staff
Nothing
Friendly and helpful staff Spacious room Stunning location Excellent breakfast choices
Put a ‘how to’ guide in the room for the extensive lighting options
Great views and great food any time of day.
Location is excellent
Our room was not very nice. I thought for nearly a £1000 the view from our small window would be better than the rear fire escape and a thoroughly depressing area we had. This was the second time we had stayed at the hotel I think it will probably be our last. Very disappointed!!!
The scenery
Too many things. The food was atrocious. The £340 room was characterless and bog standard compared to many many places I have stayed at at even half the price. I leave a photo of the in editable food I ordered as room service for around £60
Very nice rooms but a bit dated.
Very busy when weddings on.
Everything. Fabulous hotel. Best we have stayed in.

Great size and location. Accommodating for dogs.
Couldn’t access the garden at the front. It was inconvenient eating breakfast in the orangery and having to walk through hotel to get the cold buffet and walk back to my table. I think have g to pay £25 per dog is not necessary
Everything was great
We liked everything
Everything revolves around the lake views, which are simply stunning. The food is very good and, although the wine list limited, we found very good options.
There were a couple of instances where the waiting staff were not well organized. That said, they were friendly and efficient when deployed correctly
everything went well, staff accommodation all to a very high standard, the location and facilities couldn't have been better
nothing, no negative comments at all.
Staff was very helpful after our 1st room at 10 o’clock at night the heating pipes start loud noise they move us rooms for a good night sleep. Thank you
Breakfast was lovely, staff were very attentive and the bed was the comfiest we have ever slept in!
For the price of our stay, we thought it could have been a little more personable - I.e the guest welcome sheet with the room key - it could have been personal with names and not on cheap paper. It was also far too warm
Amazing breakfast and lovely staff
Wish we had a lake view room
The location couldn't be faulted at all, it was fantastic, also the breakfast was also good, on the downside I'd say it was quite expensive, for one night's stay,
Nothing really other than what I've mentioned,
Wonderful
Nothing
Perfect location for hill walking & exploring the area. Nicely laid out with comfortable room and excellent food with friendly & efficient staff
No gym
Location and quality
Lovely location Clean well presented room
The tumble dryer was switched on at 7am on Saturday morning and woke us up as it was directly below us. After speaking to the duty manager it was switched off
The Hotel looked great - it is in an amazing locations - we went for walks looking at the frozen waterfalls. The hotel is surrounded by an amazing landscape. The room was spacious and comfortable - the bed gave a good night of sleep. The check in went smoothly and all of the staff were very efficient and friendly. It has lovely and relaxing lounge and bar area and the website photos are just like the real thing. We really enjoyed our stay. We loved the little village near to the hotel.
We didn't like the fact that we only booked for one night and had to leave - we enjoyed that much.
Just fab The location and the views are perfect
Perfect location and atmosphere. The staff are so helpful and friendly, couldn't have checked into a nicer room. Views and food here is spectacular
Nothing this hotel is perfect
Great location
Room was very cold even with a extra heater
The room was recently renovated and the bed was extremely comfortable. The onsite restaurant for our evening meal was very nice also.
The staff were lacking warmth. The tea/coffee amenities were lacking in the room, perhaps trying to get you to spend down stairs. Shower pressure was rubbish.
The food was excellent. The room was super.
Views
Dining limited and always seems to be heavily involved with weddings
Beautiful location, views and facilities
