Good view from the terrace. Cute rooms, well furnished and clean. A lot of charm in the general building. The hotel is in the middle of the quiet town, so a very charming place overall.
The service is a joke: - Unfriendly at breakfast - No lunch served - No towels or anything provided for the swimming pool - No service in general - No phone in the rooms to call reception You're basically on your own there - a bit like renting an Airbnb.
The setting, the interior design, the village are fantastic, the service was impeccable and staff very friendly fly and helpful
The main hotel is still charming with very nice staff
We were in a lovely room but not in the main hotel so we didn’t use the hotel facilities
Stunning historical hotel. Fantastic staff with stunning views and food
Mooie locatie, charmant gebouw en kamers. Goede keuken.
Enigszins lawaaiige airco.
Nice staff excellent breakfast the place is beautiful
Staff
elevator was broken when we arrived. it was fixed the next day but did not work when we checked out.
Ambiente
Die Lage. Planschbecken statt Pool.
Tranquility and very private

Nice hotel in a historic village. Difficult to get to in the middle of the night and on an Uber. Helpful staff.
Breakfast was ridiculously expensive. Over 30 Euros per person for some toast and half a croissant plus juice and tea is ridiculous!
The town is gorgeous. But you need to be ok walking up and down steep hills The actual location of the hotel in the town was fantastic and the little free bus going up and down the hill all day was a god send. The hotel staff - particularly the bag porters were really good. Helpful and polite. I asked for more teabags and got a freshly brewed pot delivered, which was a lovely touch. The pick up from town by the hotel was very welcome. Its a tricky hotel to find and the hills are very steep.
The bathroom plumbing was not great, water pressure was low Toilet flush weak. Not as clean as it could have been. The little veranda was too hot to sit out on , it needed a sun umberella as the sun is on the veranda all day and it was hitting 39 - 40 degrees. So paid for a room facility impossible to use. Our room was not in the main hotel, it was outside and down some steps so we never really got to see the hotel or staff that much. It felt like we were staying in a motel - an exceedingly expensive motel!! The pick up ftom the station was great but they arranged an 11.45am pick up and didnt arrive until 12.30pm which was a bit irritating waiting in the intence heat. They did not tell us where to wait either so we were in the wrong place which increased our wait time. We had intended to eat the hotel but the dining toom and veranda were way to hot to sit in. They need air con of some sort
Superb location and great staff. Who were very accommodating and supportive.
Lack of immunity such as water in the rooms for guest mini bar items were a disappointing and expensive.
Unique property in a medieval village
Parking locations far from hotel and lack of easy transportation to/from the property were a major nuisance and required extra planning, time and physical effort.
Château Le Cagnard was honeslty one of the best parts of our whole trip. We stayed here to celebrate our engagement and from the moment we arrived the staff went above and beyond for us. We werent totally happy with our original room and the bed, and instead of just brushing it off they upgraded us to a much better room at no extra cost, which honestly meant so much given the occasion. They also suprised us with some lovely gifts to celebrate the engagement, such a nice personal touch that we didnt expect at all. The hotel itself is just stunning, full of character and charm, the kind of place that actually feels special rather than just another hotel room. Every member of staff we interacted with was warm, helpful and genuinely positive, nothing felt forced or like they were just doing their job, you could tell they actually cared. Would 100% recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area, especially if your celebrating something special. Thank you to the whole team at Le Cagnard for making our stay unforgettable!
Honestly can’t think of anything, the room mixup got sorted so fast it barely counts as a complaint. Also the location might be a challenge since its inside a medieval village and we had to walk to our car for around 8-12 mins
This was a truly special stay. Highlight was the incredible staff who could not do enough to make sure my stay was lovely. The hotel itself was stunningly beautiful and had everything I could have wished for.
It was tricky to find, but contacted the staff and they came and found me
Pequeno almoço excelente assim como as vistas.

Amazing hotel ... Inaccessible by car, u have to park 100 meters away because of very narrow and super romantic street leading to hotel... but staff comes and get you from wherever u parked nearby ... So special... loved it ..
Nothing
Gorgeous castle turned into luxury hotel.
Just an amazing place with great food and wonderful service. We loved our stay at the hotel and all the good food there. So worth a visit for a dinner too.
Great location, both at a macro level (inside the Cagnes Villle Haute, beautiful medieval town) and local level (spread around several older structures but very cleverly integrated.) Extremely clean and tidy. The room met expectations and was comfortable. The staff was very kind and they all spoke English... but some did not speak French very well! Warning to any French speaker I guess.
First, I thought the staff, while kind, was generally unhelpful. They felt young and fresh (we came in June) and they needed to go find answers somewhere else for 70% of my questions. Some were minor (e.g. how to operate the pool controls) but some were a big deal (e.g. specific room charges at checkout.) Overall the staff training did not meet my expectation at that price point. Which brings me to the price. I don't think the value is there. It is a very charming hotel in a beautiful location, but the experience did not command what we paid.
Beautiful village. So peaceful to come back to after long days exploring the coast. Top notch service!
This is a unique property, not accessible by car, but we managed to park near the Castle at the top of the hill and the walk was short and fun to get back to the car. On arrival, however, Gregory picked us up at our parking space, drove us through impossibly narrow streets, all the while downplaying the difficulty, then checked us in, acting as concierge, bellhop, and finally maître D at the dining room which has a balcony with an absolutely killer view of the Mediterranean.
We absolutely loved our stay at this charming hotel. It is a luxurious boutique property woven into the stone fabric of a medieval French hilltop village. Our family reserved several rooms, and each one had its own unique character and exquisite décor. One of the highlights was the series of outdoor terraces on multiple levels, offering beautiful spaces to relax and take in the atmosphere. We enjoyed both dinner and breakfast at the hotel, and every meal was exceptional. The staff was excellent - consistently warm, friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to be accommodating. A most magical, memorable experience.
Great stuff very helpful. The rooms are spacious and private set in historic area. Breakfast was good.
Location is far away from the main attractions, location of the parking lot is far from the hotel and requires pick up from staff, most importantly the rooms were very humid and even though the air condition was running, it didn’t reduce it. Private terraces required better cleaning and maintenance. Lots of bugs in the garden.

Wonderful historic hill top hotel with views to the sea Dinner on the terrace was very very good Complements to the chef , and the staff were lovely friendly and relaxed
Getting to the hotel was tricky Had to be met by the staff to transport luggage up the narrow cobbled st Got a bit lost finding the suggested car park but it was certainly worth it
The location is absolutely stunning, a medieval town overlooking the French Rivera. The room itself was spacious and comfortable. Yet the service was distinctly uninterested by the majority of staff. Apparently there is a free transfer service from the hotel to the train station but we were unable to utilize it. We arrived to a kind welcome from just one employee whom we never saw again. Any request we made - a slightly later checkout of 1130 or 12, a transfer to the train station was greeted with shrugs and no commitment. We asked the front desk again on our departure at 11 for the transfer and still received the same shrugs of shoulders. We left our bags to go to lunch and when we returned, the two front desk employees couldn't be bothered to help us with anything. We were left to find our bags and finally a third employee (a young man) offered to help us to the door. We heard belated and half hearted good byes from the front desk as we were literally out the door, with no transfer waiting, no offer of assistance, pretty much just goodbye. For the price we paid, and for it being our anniversary weekend, we were surprised by the lack of care or concern for our needs or wellbeing. We ended up walking all the way to the station. The breakfast there was the same - our order was taken, our food brought to us and then nothing further was offered or checked on. Even when we left the restaurant nothing was done or said. We have received better, kinder service from roadside motels in the US, very surprised that this hotel calls itself a luxury brand, because the service was truly subpar. Even the local restaurant called Jimmy's offered better service and attention. I wouldn't recommend it.
Great location. Awesome views. elegant interiors. historic place.
Everything about the hotel (the ambiance, room, staff) was absolutely brilliant but we had a very uncomfortable situation with one of the staff members in their restaurant that did ruin our stay. But the hotel amd restaurant are separate, so don't want this to put bad light on the hotel stay itself.
The encounter in the restaurant with a very rude Swedish waitress
We loved our room — it was comfortable and welcoming. Breakfast on the terrace was a delightful way to start each day. And the village oh Haut de Cagnes is a truly lovely place. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from, but it does not feel touristy in the least.
We would have very much appreciated a list of minibar items **with prices.**
Nice Hotel Kind staff
Coffee was served 3x cold
The restaurant
It is very uncomfortably located, on a steep hill and you have to park at the bottom and climb. This is not mentioned anywhere in the description of the hotel. There is a left at the hotel which stinks from the sewerage. You have to reach your room from the outside of the hotel. No pressure of water in the shower.
We felt like a King and Queen in our 13th century Chateau just below the Grimaldi Castle. The chateau architecture was stunning and every nook had items of exquisite taste. We woke to view the Mediterranean. Had a gourmet breakfast (photo). Received recommendations and directions to sites and restaurants. Anthony even walked us halfway to the Castle along the winding lanes. Every staff member made us feel like family, even when we had to phone them when we were lost in the winding streets. In the evening we sipped Cote d A'zure rose at the intimate bar and had a gourmet dinner on the balcony. restaurant. We also had a great meal at the Fleur de Sel, a 2 min walk away. Also a 2 min walk away was a free shuttle to downtown. Having traveled to 80 countries this was the best hotel we ever stayed at. One word of caution to the mobility impaired: There are narrow winding steps. It is a 15 min walk to the closest place to park a car.
We had booked 3 nights (2 rooms on a B&B rate) here as a base to explore the local area. We’ve stayed in Nice previously but thought it would be different and more authentic to stay here. This will be a mixed review of good elements and bad elements…it’s just unfortunate that we all left with a negative feeling but I’ll come to that later. As Hhonors Diamond members they upgraded my mother’s room which was much appreciated. We were both in Junior suites (Chappell & Klein) and the rooms were lovely, quirky and characterful. Our bathroom had broken shower fixtures so the shower head wouldn’t stay in & upright, which we reported that night but the maintenance guy had left. This should have been remedied before our stay. Unfortunately we had to move rooms the following morning as the room/area above us was very noisy with footfall traffic and was very intrusive. The hotel moved us with minimal fuss, and the new room was much quieter. We ate in the restaurant for our first evening having checked earlier in the day that they had vegetarian offerings (2 x veggies). They confirmed they did. However when we ordered a veggie main they said it would be ‘grilled vegetables’ which turned out to be 3 small pieces of artichoke, 2 baby spring onions and a butter foam. I honestly don’t know how the kitchen had the nerve to send this out as a ‘main’. We had already had the asparagus starter (3 pieces) and made that veggie by removing the trout roe, so not only had we had zero carbs or protein we were both still very hungry. I explained to the Swedish waitress that this was unacceptable to serve, as my mother had the fish dish which was identical to ours with the addition of fish. She said she agreed and had already informed the chef. I requested the bill and there was nothing to reflect our discontent, we were charged in full (over 180 odd euro). On checkout I spoke with the general manager, as we had had a few days to reflect on it and were not happy. She agreed it was unacceptable and told us their normal chef would be returning in a few days (not much use to us) and proceeded to go about her business. No goodwill gesture to resolve the situation and allow us to leave in a positive light, nothing. Additionally they then proceeded to charge my card for 20 euro 2hrs after we had left as 2 people had a fruit plate at breakfast (but no hot food). I had been having a fruit plate instead of their hot plate offering every morning but today they decided to charge, and charge without authorization. I did email and this was subsequently refunded, but unnecessary and added to the existing negative feeling. Their breakfast offering is very poor, and size wise their portion quite mean. You are delivered a bread/pastries basket to the table, which consists of cut up croissants, pain au chocolat and bread. I would rather be asked if we wanted pastries and be offered a full piece than pre cut up pastries. The same with the bread…delicious but the French stick was cut up so thin it was ridiculous. It felt very cost cutting. There are no cereals offered, only a choice of 1 small hot dish, effectively egg/bacon or granola. And if you want fruit you have to order a fruit plate at 10 euro (which consisted of a piece of mango, 2 pieces of kiwi and some grapes). We ended up buying our own fruits at the markets and taking them to breakfast ourselves. A hotel of this caliber should be offering all of this within its included price when you have paid for breakfast, allowing guests to choose. Similarly you are allowed 1 hot drink and then charged for any more. It just doesn’t feel luxurious at all. So unfortunately that is the reason for the 2 star review. It doesn’t offer a full experience of a ‘Small Luxury Hotel’. Positives - the staff overall are very friendly and welcoming - the setting of the hotel is beautiful Negatives - a very poor breakfast offering - the restaurant dinner food is poor - parking is very limited and is hit/miss whether you will get a spot when returning. The hotel will come and collect you from parking but we waited 45minutes one day - no turndown service
Perfect atmosphere and beautiful scenery.

Rien
Staff were so helpful, we had a really nice room, the view was amazing, and we ate in the restaurant for dinner and it was unbelievable
Nothing we didn’t like
Beautiful building lovely location great views from dining room. Great restaurant and dinner was excellent.
They were having a drain problem while we were there and lift was practically unusable due to smell. Having to pay for a 2nd cup of coffee at breakfast was not acceptable for such a high quality hotel.
mancavano asciugamani
Fascino e comfort
Servizio della colazione lento
The historical village it was situated in and the rooms
Would of been nice if the pool was outside
Vackert inredda unika rum.
Old and charming
Do not drive to the door. Road very narrow. Needs some kind of shuttle service. Plumbing so so. Shower broken and no bath . Not good when paying a lot
Tolle Lage, sehr schön eingerichtet, mega Aussicht
Spend 4 days with my sister at Chateau Le Cagnard - super charming place! Great location with easy access to public transportation. Superb dinner at the restaurant. Amazing service all around. Can highly recommend - will definately come back!
Beautiful and unique, great views and food!
Fantastic place to stay. Beautiful views and location. Gorgeous restaurant at the hotel. Square around the corner. Plenty of car parks a short walk away, but we had a bit of difficulty parking as our hire car was a hybrid and too heavy for the planastel multi-storey car park. Frequent Electric bus to the hotel.
The room felt unique and individual. The decoration was in keeping with the building and the surrounding quaint streets. The view from the room and restaurant was beautiful. It felt like a trip into a historical time which was a great experience.
The concierge could have been more responsive to our requests when we contacted them through WhatsApp and some amenities would have made a stronger impact- no kettle in the room, coffee pods were not replaced in strong quantities though the latter was replaced upon request. The minibar did not have a menu with clear prices either
Great location, but the room wasn’t anything special; didn’t feel as luxurious as I had hoped. Some of the room facilities were broken.
My husband and I stayed in Le Cagnard for three nights while visiting Nice and the experience was the highlight of our experience. We felt like we were living in a medieval castle (though a very comfortable one) perched on a mountain overlooking the Mediterranean sea. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated. The staff and restaurant were excellent and very knowledgeable and helpful. Though the hotel is a little out of the way it was was worth the effort to travel back and forth each day. Highly recommend!
Adorable hotel tucked inside a medieval village. The rooms are well-appointed and thoughtfully updated (AC and an elevator), while still keeping that fairytale charm of the town. The restaurant was outstanding with fantastic Scandinavian French dishes. Service, however, could be more attentive to match the high level of the food. Overall, a magical spot worth the stay.
We were made to feel very welcome from the outset and the friendliness and attentiveness of staff was a constant throughout our stay. The hotel is in a stunning location and it helps if you take a comfortable pair of walking shoes to navigate some of the steep inclines. It’s worth knowing that it’s around a 20 minute walk to the nearest train station, which is the easiest and most convenient way to explore the coast. The hotel itself is stunningly furnished and our room was absolutely perfect, enhanced by the terrace. Food was excellent and we had dinner twice at the hotel restaurant, living up to its Michelin recommendation. Without doubt, we’d love to go back soon.
Perched atop the ancient ramparts it exudes originality. The property is inaccessible, directly, requiring winding walks on cobbles via a labyrinth of steep steps and alleys. Would be impossible if you have a lot of luggage or are unfit. Once there you can usefully spend a day exploring the immediate surrounds and enjoying the view. You should NOT base here if your intention is to explore NIce, Canne or the Cote d'Azur in general. Nor should you spend more than a night as, captive once ensconced, the property does not have extensive amenities. A charming stopove in a more extensive itinerary.
The Chateau was spectacular and exceeded expectations. The area is stunning. Loved the art themed rooms. The restaurant was excellent. Can’t say enough good things!
Honestly, the only thing missing to make this a five star resort would be a spa.
Very quaiint and charming boutique hotel with an incredibly nice and accommodating staff. Also, 5 star restaurant serving breakfast/brunch and dinner.
Interesting property, view from restaurant impressive.
Our stay here was underwhelming. The hotel’s location is awkward and made getting to Nice station early in the morning more difficult than expected, with little help from reception so we cut our trip short. The building layout feels odd and the entrance rather dark. Service overall was uncomfortable — on arrival we were met by a staff member who insisted we had parked in the wrong place, despite having called reception several times for directions. Check-in was long and awkward, including an unnecessary tour of the tired-looking pool, empty restaurant, and garden area. I was even asked if I was tired, which felt overly personal and out of place. We were told we had been “upgraded,” though the room seemed much the same as the one booked, and the carpets in the corridors were noticeably worn. The hotel does not quite live up to its photos, and after staying at a true 5-star nearby, it felt surprising this one is rated 4-star. Small requests, like asking for a spoon, were also met with reluctance. In short, while some guests may find it satisfactory, the atmosphere, service, and overall standard left us disappointed.
It was difficult to find with Taxi dropping off. Unique and amazing place!
Beautiful hotel set in a medieval village/ like a fairy tale. Everything about it was exceptional. The staff were so warm and welcoming especially Philippe who went out of his way to make us feel special. He even showed us round the village and told us all about the area. A special mention to Hayot who was so warm and helpful. All the restaurant staff were professional and gracious. It really was a magical stay
The hotel staff was really kind. The hotel was clean. Dinner at restaurant
The worst thing is the location. We wanted to take some beach holiday days and it was my fault that i didn't analyze the location. But i saw before picking the hotel, they wrote that we have free shuttle. We arrived at Nice-ville and asked them to pick us, they said that only we can take you from meeting point. When we went to the meeting point adress it was 2 minute walk to the hotel. So their shuttle is nothing for helping guests to come hotel. Otherwise there was city's free shutlle which helped us other days to go to the city centre. But the streets across which you should climb until the hotel seem dangerous specially at night. The staff was good enough but they didn't have opportunity to do much better for this situation. That's why think twice if you want to reserve this hotel.
I was there in July with my family of two smaller children. The rooms was great and very clean. The service was at the highest level throughout our visit from all staff. I am a very demanding customer in regards to food and restaurants, but this place had a very high level of service and the menu was very exiting compared to many traditional restaurants in the south of France. The food an wine list was exellent. Will definately go here again soon and will recommend it to all my friends.
