Restaurant brilliant. Staff very helpful and kind and went out of their way to please.
Breakfast wasn't great.
The Thai Restaurant was fabulous
Booking.com messed us about not forwarding our payment to the hotel
Great food , the Thai restaurant at the hotel was amazing. Breakfast was good too. Local Italian restaurant across the road from the hotel was really good. Convenient for supporting the Great north run.
Very little soundproofing within the hotel. Could hear people using their bathrooms. Doors banging. The traffic noise from the room overlooking the main road was really bad.
The location for visiting family is excellent It’s always very clean
The noise of water running when a room around us had a shower or used the toilet. It was as if the water was running in our bathroom
Very good food. Clean and comfortable
Noise from within the hotel
The window was noisy as any traffic going past was really loud all night
The location was great for the purpose we needed it for. The room was spacious and the bed was comfortable
Liked everything
We had a fab overnight stay while attending a funeral. All the staff were amazing and the breakfast as lovely. Highly recommend.
Lovely stay at the highfield hotel, staff were amazing and the breakfast was fantastic, would definitely return 👍
I forgot my earrings and Sophie went out of her way to post them to me after she had finished her shift. Not only that, she followed up with calls to assure me they were posted.
Location was good for us.
Shower over the bath, rather than a dedicated shower.
Comfortable

Room was spacious. Good location. Large car park.
Dirty light switches, toilet seat not in position and shower could only make to work large head.
The large room. The friendly staff.
The staff member at reception when we arrived was rather abrupt, so it didn't seem like a welcoming place. Other staff were great, especially in the resturant. We arrived at the bar at 10.50pm on Saturday night, to be told there were 'no drinks as the tills had been cashed!' As guests this could have been rectified by charging drinks onto our room. We got the impression they didn't want us in the bar. A night cap would have finished off our evening nicely. Instead we felt dissapointed. I would stay here again, but would suggest that management rethink bar closing times on a weekend!
We had an absolutely lovely stay at this hotel. From start to finish the staff were outstanding- polite, helpful and friendly. Our room was lovely and very clean (in keeping with the whole venue). We had food in the bar which was good value for money and the food in the Thai restaurant was delicious! Breakfast was great with loads of choice and great food cooked to order. Excellent- 100% recommended.
Nice location, tasty breakfast, friendly waitress staff
Cold room, duvet paper thin, matress uncomfortable and noisy, check in staff on desk didnt acknowledge it was our wedding night until one came round to open the door, nothing special about the room, would have been nice to have a few special touches or complimentary item in room considering we booked the 'honeymoon suite'! Breakfast portion was very small, tasty but only 1 item of each served.
Clean , comfortable, convenient location
Shower a little difficult
Heel lekker ontbijt, op maat klaargemaakt. We werden heel vriendelijk ontvangen in de ochtend.
I've stayed there before and it was really good but this time I thought the price was a bit much staff really nice and pleasant
The price of the accommodation I thought was a bit much 😞
The staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast, lunch and evening service was prompt. The food was very good. I have never been disappointed with my stays at the Highfield, it always a pleasure to stay there. The access to the hotel is very good. The car parking facilities is good. The location of the hotel is close to main roads taking travellers to the nearby cities of Durham and Newcastle and other attractions in the area such as Beamish museum.
The rooms were very modern and had good facilities
Nothing, it was perfect
Location, Central to where i needed to be
Fire alarm test going off at 5.40 am and not even getting an apology
Chambre de bonne taille et globalement confortable. Personnel très aimable et accueillant.
Matelas vieillissant. Petit déjeuner peu qualitatif.
Did not have breakfast
It was a really good stay. No bad points
Location to friends
Have stay a number of times and always good service and value for money and good breakfast
The room was adequate, however the staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful.
Unfortunately the hotel is located next to a busy dual carraigeway.
Liked the location and the bar/Thai restaurant at the facility. Great food
I can't say there was anything bad about the stay.
Clean, pleasant and spacious room. Quiet location, conveniently located next to bus stop.
Malfunctioning coffee machine at breakfast causes problems for staff and guests.
I chose not only as it looked lovely but also as a family business. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and efficient. The room was clean and tidy, and we had the balcony, which was great. Having the patio doors open during the evening was perfect in the hot snap we've had. We will definitely be returning and recommending to others. We slept in (comfy beds) and missed the breakfast timeframe, but we did not need to worry they had made us up some breakfast and called us to collect it. Genuinely, this was a lovely place, the decor, atmosphere, and people. Ample car park space to the front and rear.

Malcolm was brilliant as were the waiting staff in the morning.
While the rooms were very modern and finished to a good standard the restaurant could do with a bit of renovation but that is me being over critical as it was probably a little bit tired.
Stayed here when visiting friends. The staff were very friendly. Hotel was in a great location for our visit. Great value for money would definitely recommend and we will stay again
Nothing we had a great stay
Really friendly and helpful staff. Close to Belmont park and ride so very easy to get into Durham without any hassle. Breakfast in the morning was lovely.
Traffic noise as it is very close to two roads and no airconditioning. On a summers night you would want to open the window to keep the room cool.
Location restaurant breakfast
Beds bit old squeaky
staff were good
dont say there is breakfast to 930 or whatever and say there isnt when guests arrive at 910am
Nice bar and restaurant, bed comfy
Ask for bath mat for showering in Bath they have them but don't put in rooms?
Facilities were excellent and well-maintained. Members of staff were all helpful and courteous. Star of Siam restaurant first rate.
One small item only - scrambled egg cooked in the microwave; oh dear! All other food excellent.
Simple and comfortable

Nice room, had a bar meal one night and ate in the Thai restaurant the other night. Bar meal was good but the Thai meal was exceptional. The biggest asset to the hotel was the staff, all were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay again.
What a beautiful hotel, managed by wonderful people. I can’t remember the last time I stayed somewhere so thoughtful, most hotels these days are part of a franchise and have no life….not this one!!! Its interior is beautiful and very well looked after, and the staff were the most friendly, helpful and all round lovely people. I stayed here as I was attending a local event, however I will definitely be returning to this hotel to visit the area again. Thank you for having us.
Nothing, it was wonderful.
Local friendly staff
No hand held shower head
All of it
Great staff and lovely hotel really homely
The only bad point was the bed was a bit lumpy but didn’t stop me from sleeping
Nice and quiet, and room was spacious. Location was perfect for us.
Tap in bathroom was spinning round and door plate was loose which wouldn’t let us close the door so we moved it.
Staff were excellent, Very freindly. Breakfast was very nice. I thought it was good value at £11, there was lots of choice.
No biscuits in room povided for either days stayor clean towels , hairdryer didnt work, nowhere to keep snacks or drinks cold, cant get a snack after 2.45. No vending machines
Has a bar and restaurant
Breakfast finishes quite early
The view of the city and Penshaw Monument was beautiful! Interiors were on point and super interesting Cool room, great facilities and very friendly staff. Breakfast was delicious with great service
Staff were friendly and helpful
Lovely hotel comfortable and clean rooms Nice bar and restaurant Staff very friendly, big shout out to breakfast ladies, couldn’t do enough for us. Only down side in twin room, no socket bedside one of the beds apart from that would definitely stay again
Hotel location and bar very friendly
If I had booked direct the breakfast would have been included in what I paid on booking.com
room, bathroom, very clean and comfortable. the fact that the bottom floor is a bar and restaurant, with very well cooked food. staff were exceptionally friendly, and not just professionally so.
as a big lad, I miss the laid out breakfast pans, and always find the economical "five item" tick list a shame. but there was no stinting on the other items, and what you got was excellently cooked.
Our 4th visit, fab location, wonderful and friendly staff, the Thai restaurant meal was absolutely superb……we just love it !
The breakfast was great value and good selection
My husband said the very big shower head was amazing
Needed a bath in the room
Breakfast critical for me, excellent staff, excellent breakfast, staying again just for breakfask.

Lovely decoration throughout, friendly staff

Everthing was great from the check into the breakfast. The room was nicely furnished and ideal for our stay. The shower was excellent and the bar nice and freindly.
Coffee machine in bar broken
Twin Room was spot on, clean, tidy and spacious. The Staff, bar and food menu was all good. Great atmosphere in the bar area. Good parking at front and side of hotel. Secure enough for my motorbike, with security cameras that cover the parking areas.
We bought food and alchohol in the evening, very nice. Breakfast should be included in the price.
Large comfortable room and bed. Room had a balcony with views in distance on city. Direct access from A1. Restaurant on site plus parking.
Traffic from A1 however room had decent soundproofing and great for a stop over.
Excellent hotel clean staff very friendly

Stayed at the Highfield for our anniversary really happy with our stay. Charlie on reception gave us a warm welcome and our room was modern and comfortable! Had a drink down in the bar and a delicious dinner at the star of Siam - best Thai in the northeast!
Lovely comfortable hotel with excellent staff - friendly and efficient. Clean, comfortable rooms with tea/coffee making facility (and real milk), very spacious with balcony. Lots of parking space, close to major routes and easy to find. Fabulous Thai restaurant for dinner or good bar food. A great hotel.
nothing
Really lovely hotel with kind and helpful staff , shout out to Shirley on reception and all the breakfast ladies who couldn’t do enough for us . Rooms were spotless and well worth what we paid
The evening meal i had was very good would recommend, the room was comfortable and quiet had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was also very good with a good choice of continental and cooked options.
Nothing to note all good.
Good sized rooms and ate in the Thai restaurant which was lovely .
Got woken up by pipes banging at around 3am , was so bad I had to go see security who moved us to different room for rest of stay.
Room very clean & comfortable
Breakfast was appalling
All the ladies we came into contact with from reception to breakfast staff were friendly and very helpful. Our room was comfortable and clean. A great breakfast selection too. Great location just off the A1M. If you want to go into Durham and not drive it's a short taxi ride or there's a bus stop just outside the hotel which takes about 20 minutes and runs frequently. We didn't eat in the hotels Thai restaurant but it looked very good and was busy. Am sure we will visiting Durham in the future and wouldn't hesitate to stop here again.
Stay was too short!
Staff were very welcoming and friendly. The food was very good too. We had a pleasant surprise seeing a bottle of champagne in our room whilst we were staying there. We are very thankful to the hotel management and staff for given this complimentary gift in recognition of our engagement.
Clean well maintained rooms comfortable bed.Good and friendly atmosphere and the bar and dining area.Efficient staff at reception.Easy to park good location 20 mins to Sunderland seafront.
My dinner on arrival was generally very good. The starter was over cooked but the sizzling dish that I had for mains was really excellent & a very large helping. When I arrived at the car park I looked back at the hotel & the windows were quite dirty. This didn't give a good impression but everything else was OK! I thought the breakfast was quite poor given that I could only get 5 items! This meant one sausage, one rasher of bacon etc I could have paid extra 50p for additional items
See comments above
It was close to where we needed to be.
Room was chilly, bed was hard, shower was like a tap, no spray. Sketchy information given on check in.
Clean, comfortable and good food. Staff really friendly, welcoming and helpful. Would stay here again.

Very clean property with great staff. Thai restaurant serves wonderful food.
Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and very friendly and helpful waitresses.
Nothing
The location for our stay
Noise from other rooms, corridors and other floors is of concern when you want a nights sleep also the beds are very poor for comfort and to round it off no spoons to make a hot drink further to this any snacks had been removed from previous stays. In giving the hotel numerous chances regards especially the noice we will not be attending anymore
Staff were exemplary and very friendly
Very slight issue with kettle in the room, cord was not long enough. Otherwise excellent.
Clean comfortable room Great breakfast Welcoming staff

Nothing
We only required breakfast one day, but there was plenty available, hot and cold. The bar and restaurant are very well decorated. The windows opened in the bedroom.
The noise from the motorway
Stayed a few times at this hotel. Excellent stay - Pub and food all excellent.
Very clean, easy check in and out, room comfortable, lovely quality bedding.
Too warm at night made it uncomfortable to sleep, no water in room, said balcony with view but was overlooking busy A19 but would still recommend and return
