Much brighter lights in the ensuite, was dark. Room very small. No way could have a bag open. Fortunately as only a short stay I didn’t need my bag as used other carry bags for my needs. Room basically ok for one person only.

Helen and Kev were absolutely delightful hosts! Very helpful with local advice and recommendations. Helen’s treats were delicious! Such a unique location and perfect stop on the way through the Highlands.

It was a very special building as it was previously a church. Every thing is clean and comfortable and the hosts were extremely nice, welcoming and helpful!

Breakfast was brilliant as was the room size and decor. Probably the best B&B that we used out of 11 on an NC500 road trip. Very unusual but lovely setting in a converted church, the conversion was done very tastefully and effectively. The hosts were superb

Probably a little overpriced relative to other accommodation used on the trip. No parking actually on-site but road parking outside the B&B was ok.

We spent three nights at this wonderful B&B and loved every moment of our stay. Everything is beautifully decorated with so much love and attention to detail. Helen and Kevin gave us such a warm welcome and were incredibly friendly and helpful, always happy to recommend restaurants, day trips and places to visit. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic, with delicious homemade treats. A special highlight were the homemade scones – simply amazing! Thank you, Helen and Kevin, for making our stay so special. We will definitely be back!

We were given a very warm welcome and the room was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with many home made dishes and pastries. Service was really good at breakfast. The ambience of the old church was really nice and it is located close to town with plenty of free parking close by

Incredibly cool building with a friendly set of hosts who truly want you to have a tip top experience. A dram of whisky with a homemade cookie awaited us in our beautiful room. Gorgeous breakfast the next day.

Wat een supergastvrije gastvrouw en gastheer. Het was alsof je thuis kwam. Zo persoonlijk. En genoeg tips en Tops konden ze geven voor wat er in de omgeving te doen was. Gezellige kamers. Es una pasada alojarse en una antigua iglesia, las instalaciones son de estilo antiguo y la decoración acorde a ello. El baño está reformado. Como recibimiento habían delicias locales en la habitación y una cafetera lista para tomar muchas variedades de té y café, así como botellines de agua. Los anfitriones son de lo mejor que nos hemos encontrado, da gusto llegar a un lugar y sentir la hospitalidad a ese nivel. El desayuno es increíble y el mejor que comimos en toda Escocia. Sin duda de los mejores sitios dónde nos hemos alojado.

La cama era blanda, se hundía bastante. La ducha salía agua fría cada dos por tres, pero bueno, soportable.

Great property and delicious food

The location of the Auld Kirk is perfect, just a short walk into town. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. Breakfasts were excellent. It was easy to park on the street next to the property. The hosts were very friendly.

Helen und Kevin waren tolle Gastgeber, wir haben uns sehr willkommen gefühlt. Kevin hat uns super Tipps für das Abendessen gegeben. Das Zimmer war gemütlich eingerichtet und sehr sauber. Besonders hat uns das leckere Frühstück mit selbstgebackenen Scones und frischem Obst gefallen.

Das wir nach einer Nacht schon weiterfahren mussten.

Wir wurden von Kevin sehr nett empfangen und bekamen gute Restaurantempfehlungen. Im unserem Zimmer hatte er für uns einen kleinen Empfangswhisky bereitet - sehr nett! Unser Zimmer hatte zwei gemütliche Einzelbetten mit einer richtigen, leichten Zudecke. Wir haben sehr gut geschlafen. Das Frühstück wurde frisch zubereitet (hauptsächlich warme Speisen) und war durchweg lecker. Es gab tolles selbstgemachtes Gebäck von Helen, der Chefin. Wir fanden es wirklich angenehm in diesem besonderen Hotel.

Plug-in room ‘fresheners’, overpowering and not required

Super Frühstück, sehr üppig, es gab am Tisch eine Grundausstattung mit Obst, Gebäck, usw. und zusätzlich kann man dann à la Carte noch das Englische Frühstück , Porridge usw. bestellen. Die Besitzerin backt sehr gerne, somit auch Schwerpunkt auf Gebäck, Stückchen usw.). Empfang bei Anreise erfolgte direkt durch den Gastgeber, der uns auch gleich noch ein paar hilfreiche Tipps gegeben hat (Möglichkeiten zum Essen in Ballater, Parken bei Schloss Balmoral usw.). Gastgeber beide nett und kommunikativ. Parkplätze auf der Straße davor, die Innenstadt / Geschäfte von Ballater und auch Pubs sind schnell zu Fuß erreichbar. Zimmer nicht so riesig, dafür Badezimmer riesig und topmodern und insgesamt alles in Topzustand. Zimmer sehr stilvoll eingerichtet und zur Begrüßung gab es sogar einen Whisky. Wir wären auch noch länger geblieben. Preis ist zwar nicht so günstig, aber für eine Unterkunft in einer alten Kirche auf jeden Fall das Geld wert.

Mooie, comfortabele kamer. Zeer mooie locatie en best bijzonder om in een oude kerk te verblijven. Uitgebreid ontbijt, deels geserveerd op etagere met van allerlei lekkers. Ontvangst was uitermate vriendelijk. Ook de tip om de hertebokken (stags) bij Loch Muick te gaan zien was top. Restaurants op loopafstand.

This is a beautiful BnB in an old church located only a short walk from town. The hosts, Kevin and Helen are lovely people who make you feel welcome from the moment you walk through the door and love to share their local expertise and knowledge with you.

There was nothing not to like.

Alles. De locatie is schitterend, we werden supervriendelijk ontvangen door de erg behulpzame eigenaars. Ontbijt was overheerlijk. Parkeren kan recht voor de deur. Je kan gezellig op het terras zitten als het mooi weer is.

Ik kan niets bedenken.

The Auld Kirk is easy to find and perfectly located for walking to shops etc. Accommodation is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The breakfast is amazing and as a coeliac I have to say it’s the best breakfast I’ve ever had in any hotel or b&b. The hosts and staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. I can’t recommend them highly enough. We look forward to our next visit 🙂

Very friendly welcome at this quirky location. It isn't every B&B where you get to stay in an old church. The location is within easy walking distance of the small and quaint village of Ballater, complete with its royal connections.

Wir wurden, trotz später Ankunft, sehr freundlich empfangen und bekamen umgehend Tipps für den nächsten Tag. Das Frühstück war fantastisch und die Unterkunft sehr besonders. Wir haben uns sofort sehr wohl gefühlt. Beim nächsten Mal würden wir länger bleiben, mindestens 2 Nächte.

Un soggiorno davvero speciale in un luogo fuori dal comune. Le camere si trovano al primo piano di un edificio che è, a tutti gli effetti, una tipica chiesa scozzese riconvertita. Noi abbiamo alloggiato in una delle stanze affacciate sulle splendide vetrate colorate della facciata, un dettaglio che rende l'atmosfera ancora più particolare. La camera era dotata di ogni comfort immaginabile: letto comodissimo, bagno spazioso, cabina armadio e arredi perfettamente in linea con lo stile e il carattere dell'edificio. Molto apprezzati anche la macchina per il caffè e il piccolo angolo ristoro dove i proprietari mettono a disposizione whisky e scones fatti in casa. La colazione è stata una delle migliori del viaggio: abbondante, varia e con un'ampia scelta tra piatti della tradizione scozzese e dolci fatti in casa. Abbiamo apprezzato molto anche la possibilità di portare via ciò che non eravamo riusciti a consumare. Una menzione speciale va ai proprietari, che hanno reso il soggiorno ancora più piacevole. Gentili, simpatici e sempre disponibili, ci hanno accolto con grande calore e ci hanno dato tantissimi consigli su ristoranti, luoghi da visitare e tappe per il resto del viaggio. Abbiamo seguito praticamente tutti i loro suggerimenti e grazie a loro abbiamo vissuto alcune delle esperienze più belle della vacanza, come una passeggiata intorno a un lago poco distante circondato da cervi. Uno di quei posti che si ricordano anche dopo il viaggio. Assolutamente consigliato.

Absolut top Frühstück mit selber gebackenen Leckereien - zusätzlich kann mach noch aus einer Karte bestellen. Das Ambiente in der alten Kirche ist einmalig. Sehr nette Gastgeber. Ruhige Lage, man hat es aber nicht weit ins Zentrum mit Pubs und Restaurants.

Sehr außergewöhnliche Unterkungt in einer alten Kirche. Sehr liebevoll eingerichtet, mit allem was man benötigt. Das Frühstück ist sensationell !!! Und den Afternoon Tea, den Helen mit selbst gemachten Spezialitäten sollte man auf keinen Fall auslassen. Bitte gebt ihr 2 Tage Vorlauf Helen und Kevin, sind außergewöhnlich nette und unheimlich hilfsbereite Gastgeber ! Kevin hat ein sehr umfangreiches Wissen bezüglich der Umgebung und vor allem gibt es unzählige Empfehlungen wenn man nach einem Restaurant oder Sehenswürdigkeiten sucht !! Wir kommen bestimmt wieder !!!

Small but lovely room and the first smooshy bed I found on my trip (smooshy is a good thing). Owners were divine, totally committed to making everyone’s stay lovely. Ballater’s a great town to visit, and I don’t think I would stay in any other inn.

Lieu atypique, très bien aménagé. Helen déborde d’énergie et d’idées pour faire de notre séjour un rêve ! Son équipe est également très dynamique et agréable. Le petit déjeuner était excellent et fait maison.

Das Besondere hat natürlich auch seinen Preis…

Lage und Ausstattung der Unterkunft, eine umbegaute Kirche, waren hervorragend. Unsere Gastgeber Helen und Kevin waren beide sehr freundlich, hilfsbereit und auch für einen Scherz zu haben. Das Frühstück sowie das von Helen selbstgemachte Gebäck wurde jeden morgen frisch zubereitet. Alles war sehr lecker und reichlich. Ausserdem gab es zur Begrüßung einen leckeren Whisky von der nicht weit entfernten Distillerie. Alles in allem ein sehr schöner und sehr angenehmer Aufenthalt in "The Auld Kirk". Sollte unsere Urlaubsplanung für Schottland uns nochmal in die Gegend führen dann werden wir, wenn möglich, wieder dieses tolle B&B buchen. Können "The Auld Kirk" nur weiterempfehlen sollte jemand einen Besuch in Ballater planen.

Die Gastgeber Helen und Kevin sind einfach fantastisch! Wir wurden herzlich begrüßt und haben einige sehr wertvolle Tipps bekommen. Und natürlich war das Frühstück superlecker (und hat nicht umsonst viele Preise gewonnen). Wer in der Gegend ist, sollte unbedingt dort vorbeischauen!

This beautifully renovated Kirk or church was the perfect spot to explore Royal Deeside. From our check in to check out, the hosts, Kev and Helen and the staff were excellent. They gave us recommendations of places to eat in Ballater, which was appreciated. The room was spotlessly clean and a nice touch was the dram for each of us in the room on arrival. Breakfast was amazingly set out with homemade pastries, muffins and scones and the cooked breakfast was delicious. A great place to stay.

Where do I start !!! Kev and Helen made you feel like it’s your home away from home, the introduction to the property was one of my highlights we talked for hours 😜 The room was amazing as you walk into the room you’ll find little surprises you need to try The bed was amazing 10/10 its like what you see in the pictures….Amazing!!! definitely recommend to stay there but you’ll need at least 3 night as you’ll never what to leave.. Breakfast was nothing I’ve seen in my 4 weeks stay in Scotland Lisa was very welcoming in her service. The town is a very cute small Village walking distance to everything 10/10

Die Gastgeberin war sehr speziell. Bei unserer Ankunft mussten wir uns eine 20 minütige Selbstdarstellung als Check In anhören. Morgens beim Frühstück gab es dann Zurechtweisungen durch die Chefin. Alles in Allem ein maximal durchschnittlicher Aufenthalt.

Received a warm welcome upon arrival, very friendly. The Auld Kirk is a very clean and comfortable place to stay, really good cooked breakfast. It is ideally placed only a couple of minutes walk from centre of Ballater.

The room was comfortable, spotlessly clean and well furnished. The breakfast menu was extensive and very tasty. I am now a big fan of a scone at breakfast! Our hosts were friendly and available. Nothing seemed too much trouble.

Exceptional hospitality: friendly, engaging hosts. I appreciated the gluten-free food specially made. We could see why they quite justifiably have won so many awards for their B&B accommodation.

(Rock music, on the loud side, first thing in the morning over breakfast, not really appropriate in the quiet peacefulness of Ballater. It was turned down and then off when we asked, though.)

wow! truly a remarkable place to stay in, its an old church converted to a bed and breakfast. very comfortable rooms, mine had a beautiful glass stained window. the BB is run by an amazing couple who welcome you and make you feel like youre right at home. in the morning they cook you breakfast and give you all the recommendations you need. truly one of the most magical places I have stayed in , and the couple that runs it made it even more magical.

It's the first time i'm sleeping in a church... different experience. The place is lovely, unique, and very inviting. The hosts are very friendly, very good breakfast with fluffiest Scones I've had. Also, loved the touch of a whisky glass welcoming me to the room.

The bad was too springy for my back, and I did miss a cabinet in the shower room.
