My wife mistakenly left her "hearing aids" in the room which she realised after we had travelled 50 kms after leaving. Celina reacted on a phone call to have the items couriered for an early delivery to our home address. Really appreciated that.
Only issue being an upstairs apartment was having to lug heavy suit cases up stairs.

The noise from the guests on the floor above us, from what appeared to be them just walking around. Waking to the room next door’s children watching cartoons. We stayed in the newer part of the motel too.

Reviewed Jun 1, 2026The boat shed is tucked away perfectly back from the Strand, offering water and boat views without passing foot traffic. As a relatively late addition to this historical lodge, the room felt brand new. I initially booked the wrong date, but the property cheerfully refunded, and I rebooked straight away. The reception staff were still there waiting for us even though we were quite a bit later than our original ETA.
We picked a bad weather weekend, but in such a fantastic location, a quick dash along the Strand delivered many excellent dining options in the eve, and a bakery and coffee shop across the road in the morning.

Friendly and helpful hosts (sorry I was slow to notice you waving at me on Thursday night! ). Beautifully maintained property. An easy stroll to everything in town. Great dining a stone's throw away. Comfy couch (great for knitting!), good bed, lovely bathroom, nice little area out front that trapped the sun. Easy parking. No negatives at all from my point of view. The Duke is a must visit for an early evening drink or meal. Good cocktails at the Nauti Penguin nearby. A quick drive or walk over to the coffee cart at beautiful Long Beach. Short drive to Tāpeka Point.

Reviewed Feb 25, 2026Just about everything! It was a great find! Spacious apartment, spotlessly clean, well equipped, and very comfortable bed. Well situated & with easy access to dining & bars, & supermarkets.
Air conditioning made quite a noise so couldn’t use it overnight…….but reported it & the heat pump is due to be replaced.
