Great food
I like the way it is
Beautiful, large, clean room. Meals were great, we had breakfast and dinner in the hotel both nights. Staff all very welcoming and friendly.
The spiral stairs to our room.
It’s history and staff
Poor state of the room (no sockets near the bed save for the old ones from a previous refurbishment behind a heavy bedside unit). Crowded small bar as usual shared by zillions of guests attending an event at the hotel. The noise from the the visitors drinking in the outdoor seating area disturbing bedrooms and blaring disco noise from the private party heard over the ground floor. Considering these points, vastly over priced.
Everything was spot on
Nothing
Very comfortable stay . Staff very helpful and friendly. Refurbished rooms spacious and with good facilities. Excellent breakfast in the morning.
Nothing negative to report..
Nice Hotel with a lovely beer garden. Bar staff were friendly
Squeaky floorboards. Room next door had people walking around late at night and early morning that prevented a good night's sleep. Only one socket for all electrical equipment ie chargers, hair dryer, straightners
nice and spacious

Bardzo ładny wystrój obiektu.
Breakfast was a shambles. At first when we went to eat at 9.30am the food had all gone { Wedding Party the night before and some stayed over} which was I suppose due to the large number of Guests however the food was replenished in dribs and drabs and nobody available to replenish Tea/Coffee. Overall not great.
Lovely hotel & staff
No lift had to carry case up two staircases
Central , clean cozy
Bit noisy with functions on but went off at midnight
Front desk staff were inattentive, I felt like I was an inconvenience. The bed in room 49, had a spring coming through the mattress that actually left a bruise on my side, no other rooms were available to change to, so the following night we slept at the foot of the bed. Staff was non existent with the exception of a lovely cleaning lady. The noise from parties/celebrations was extremely loud, there were no fans so shutting windows was not an option. Upon check out- again there was no one at the desk.
Decor was beautiful
Very clean Good food
The hotel was spotless and the room had a lovely new toilet/shower room.
The only issue with the lovely new bahroom suite was there was no ventilation/extractor fan so there was a lot of condensation in the bathroom and the room. The beds were horribly uncomfortable. I shared a room with my son so had a twin room. The single beds were rock solid and our night's sleep was awful
The food was excellent the hotel never fails to please I would not stay anywhere rlse
Nothing
Location and friendly staff
The rooms are dated, very hot, the walls are like paper made, you can hear every sound coming from other rooms.
All was just as expected.
See above.
Breakfast was amazing.. staff attentive all good
Friendly and attentive staff, room was absolutely spotless and very comfortable room. Food was good, we ate in the evening and had breakfast.
Great location, just by the Esplanade. Lovely bar areas.
Very busy as two weddings on the Saturday.
Lovely staff. Very clean. Good facilities. Very comfortable stay. Excellent food too.
No complaints
Dinner breakfast dining very good and fair price . Staff very helpful with booking and changing rooms. Dinng room staff friendly and helpful
Room next to events venue . I had changed rooms in the hope of better mobile network signal . Some reception staff not as friendly as others
The property was beautiful. The rooms were clean. The staff was friendly & helpful. Breakfast was great!
Everything was great
No lift to the top floor
We stayed the night before a family funeral. Staff in 1808 particularly Olivia were very attentive & sensitive to our needs. The following day the funeral tea was perfect, staff were efficient and discreet especially Darren (?) and Valerie. The seamless efficiency of wonderful staff made our sad day so much easier.
No dislikes, everything was perfect.
Breakfast was excellent plenty of choice staff very helpful and quick love staying their this is my third time and plan on a another trip next year and will definitely booking to stay with you again 💖x
I've stayed here a few times and it has certainly benefitted from its refurb/refresh. Given the weather it would have been helpful to have a fan in the bedroom. 👍
I think the kitchen opening hours are quite limited given the room rate being similar to other quality hotels with better services.
Location, free parking, on-site facilities. Beautiful lobby and lounge. Bathroom was nicely up-to-date.
Restaurant quality was inconsistent. This does not refer to breakfast which was consistently good.
Gorgeous period hotel very well decorated and maintained
Music from an event could be heard in the Dining room/bar
Lovely and clean. Very good room size, comfortable beds. Friendly and helpful staff. Dinner at the restaurant was delicious and reasonably priced.
.
Friendly staff and clean and tidy entrance hallway
It was a bit noisy in the morning as you could hear the hairdryer from next doors room and switching on and off of the switches
Bedroom, hotel location, friendly staff
My wife and I are both elderly. We found the long spiral stair very difficult. Our sleep was disturbed following an engagement party in the function suite. Very noisy guests chatting until after 1am was not great. Breakfast was very different Tuesday to Thursday compared to Friday to Sunday. During the week, our breakfast order was taken at the table and cooked freshly to order. In the latter part of the week, the staff were different, tables not laid and we had to ask for several items. The food in the hot plates was often cold and the eggs rubbery.
The place was clean and had a very nice setup; everything worked
I stayed in room 14 on the top floor. The windows are very thin, so I could hear cars passing by. Luckily, I am a deep sleeper, and the road is not too busy during the night, but while I was working before bed, the noise became quite annoying.
All was excellent. Everything we needed was provided for. Would recommend.

All staff were exceptional . Especially 2 young boys the bar .
shower was cold and tea has a funny taste
Disappointing! Breakfast one day was slow and disorganised. I asked if someone had failed to turn up, but the reply was that the poor performance was because it was busy. Not a great answer. The shower on day 2 was also only lukewarm. I reported it to the receptionist who didn't apologise and was very offhand about it. The hotels before and after were so much better and no more expensive.
Lovely staff great bfast comfortable rooms
Nice spacious room. Very comfortable pillows. Great little cafe downstairs which served a lovely breakfast/brunch.
The location is very central
It's dated and the beds are small and not very comfortable
What a cracking little (not so little) hotel. Very friendly staff and a lovely friendly atmosphere. It feels intimate but is quite capacious. The decor is smart and well maintained. Parking is free and plentiful within the dedicated car park and on the Main Street. We parked right in front of the hotel. How many places can boast that ability. The food was delicious and the service excellent. Well done Tontine 👍
Nothing.
Huge room on the 2nd floor.

Good big room comfortable if not a little hot
A great looking hotel with bags of charm and character. As an older hotel a little tired in places but the modern refurbished bathroom and a hearty Scottish breakfast were much appreciated and I that felt the Hotel, for my short stay, was good value too.
Comfortable and clean
Breakfast was very disappointing. Cold atmosphere and cold food. No vegetation option offered and very little left at 9am. Staff member observed me looking at empty dishes and did nothing about it. Breakfast was a waste of money.
Location was excellent & Hannah was very pleasant and polite.
We left the Midlands after work, so we didn't arrive until midnight. The hotel is so noisy from the creaking of people walking around, you can hear every move, so we didn't get the best night sleep. The pillows were hard which was a shame as the bed was quite comfy. Hannah was very pleasant and polite on reception, and was very prompt with replying by email after requesting information about car parking. Our friends wake was at the hotel later on in the afternoon, the Hotel had dressed the room beautifully and the food was amazing... Would I stay again? No, due to the noise, but would definitely eat there as the afternoon tea was amazing.
Room and bed as expected. Suited us that room easily accessible.
Disappointed with breakfast. Food wasn’t hot enough. Didn’t like that scrambled egg wasn’t hot and in separate dish - why? Also beans in separate dish.
Everything about hotel was absolutely stunning inside and out...and had the suite it was so comfortable and well worth another trip in future
Had a lovely meal in evening on arrival very reasonably priced staff very polite and attentive
Everything was exceptional
Great hotel would recomend staying here.
We attended a wonderful wedding - really well supported by the hotel
Room was basic and very small; breakfast was very average; arrangements previously agreed with Booking.com were not recognised by the hotel (despite email confirmation) so last minute hassle to get our early check-in (but resolved on the day).
Everything friendly staff very clean hotel
Nothing
The staff in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful
The bed was very lumpy which led to a poor night sleep
Location room comfort and public areas
The rear steps were a little difficult to negotiate due to planters in the way of holding the handrail
comfortable and clean. Friendly staff. Good location.
Nicely appointed
Unavoidable but wedding event was noisy so struggled to sleep .In the dark couldnt work out how to clode the windows fully there was a catch we found in full daylight so couldnt dhut ouf the nouse
Room was spacious and bed very comfortable
Breakfast was very busy and we struggled for a table, there wasn’t much left in the buffet and the kitchen were struggling to re fill the hot plates
The room was very comfortable, very clean. Great shower. Helpful reception staff were helpful. Housekeeping great. Warm friendly hotel.
Breakfast was ok.
Thankfully we only stayed one night for a friends function which was being held elsewhere. When we arrived I found the staff not to be overly friendly. Yes they had a few functions going on but that’s what their job entails. The rooms are in need of a refurb. When going to the bar we were basically told they were busy with a wedding however we were served. Unbeknown to us there was another bar downstairs which we were unaware of. The staff at breakfast were more friendly however we found £135 for the night with breakfast was not worth it. Not a lot of places to stay in Greenock but would not stay again.
Good bedroom and shower, good breakfast, good bar at back of hotel, easy street parking.
Very late opening for breakfast for anybody on business (7.30am), very weak internet in downstairs rooms
I was in an upgraded room which was spacious and comfortable. The quality of the food was high, especially the cooked breakfast which unlike some other hotels was kept hot.
There are still some parts of the hotel in need of refurbishing.
Grand hotel in an easy part of Greenock
This town is quite disappointing however the hotel made up for it.
The bathroom
The beds
Great wedding venue. Very clean
No fans in rooms. Necessary in this extreme heat
Excellent facilities
A bit too far to walk from railway station on a rainy day
It was a convenient stopping point between visiting friends either side of Scotland. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the food was excellent.
We were unable to order a cocktail at the upstairs bar and couldn't use the 1808 bar, where they sold cocktails, due to a private function. There was no towel rail in the bathroom to hang wet towels and it would have been nice to have had supplied a disposable shower cap. The mattress on the bed was a bit tired, you could feel the springs.
Everything
Recently refurbed very clean and new
No air con in the heatwave
Friendly staff. Comfortable beds.
Curtains didn't block out light. Coffee wasn't replenished.
Was at the funeral of a dear friend today and it was an absolute shambles!! Cakes and one plate of sandwiches on table , cakes were melting in the heat. Then tea and coffee arrived. After we'd finished those the soup arrived, it was cold! Then sausage rolls about 5 minutes later.... I would have expected a hotel of long standing to be able to serve people at the appropriate time. Especially when you hear what they charge. Disgusting and no apology, felt really sorry for the family of the deceased!!
Location, food, cleanliness and staff
Everything was good
the breakfast was excellent and there was a good choice, cooked fresh. The buffet choice was a little limited, but adequate for our needs. Parking behind the hotel is a great bone and a good number of spaces available. Room was very comfortable and quiet. We stayed in the newer part of the hotel. excellent location for walking down to the esplanade and the port area. we found a little leaflet in the room about visiting 24 churches in the town, this was a great little way of exploring the town and seeing it from east to west. Think we walked about 8 miles in total. Really interesting to find out about the history of the churches and we aren't even really 'churchy' people. It was just a great walk. Drinks seemed reasonably priced. We didn't eat in at night, just because we were meeting friends, but I would assume the evening meals were the same quality as the breakfasts.
If I'm honest I thought the hotel was a bit pricey, but sometimes you have to pay a bit more to have a better stay and I have no complaints about anything at all during the stay.
Very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful
Everything bloody love the place

Everything was superb
Very friendly and welcoming staff, immaculately clean and comfortable room, great breakfast.
Can’t think of anything overnight stay was great .
Always love coming to The Tontine it's the best hotel in Greenock.
Nothing
Good location for my needs. It's a nice old building with a restaurant and bar on site. The room was decent and clean.
The room I was given was on the basement floor level with a car park, so no privacy unless the curtains were closed. My stay was adequate but not remarkable.

The room was on the ground floor. The room and bathroom were cleaned. I enjoyed the breakfast.
The bed was a little small to what we are used to. My wife said the eggs at breakfast we rubbery.
Hotel was really clean, rooms were spotless with everything you could need, staff were so polite and helpful throughout our stay
Leaving
Room , breakfast good.
The breakfast is superb, we’ve been to Venice 5 times, this is by far the best The room was serviced everyday which hasn’t been my experience previously The staff go above and beyond
Nothing
Good bedroom and food.
Not able to check in before 3pm.
Great street parking near the property, food was great
Nothing … one of the better places we stayed
It is a clean, comfortable, efficient and welcoming place to stay. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food good. I have stayed before and hope to be back!
Nothing!
Our room with its huge windows overlooking the bowling green was lovely, recently refurbished and very smart. It really is worth ensuring you have a room upstairs if possible. But the best thing of all about the Tontine are the staff - warm, friendly, kind and efficient. Valerie and Courtney are exactly the sort of front of house staff that make you want to leave a review that says ‘thank you!’
Central location and parking available.
Not enough electrical sockets had to remove lamp plug to use kettle. No usb/usbc points to charge phone. Room doors very heavy and hard to keep open to get your luggage in as they are fitted with self closers.
The bed was unsleepable
Location near the River And easy walk to town.
Lift
Very convenient, and could not fault hotel.
Like everything
Location was great for The Beacon. Lovely outdoor space for sitting in the sunshine.
Fresh fruit was a bit tired at breakfast.
Character hotel. Nice big rooms. Lovely meals.
