Reviewed Aug 30, 2026The place is very clean and well cared for. The location is central, with nearby parking. The rooms are basic but perfectly good and clean.
Some of the other guests were noisy and inconsiderate, but the staff did their best to resolve this.

Reviewed Jul 19, 2026I was nervous at first as I had never been to a hostel before but overall my first experience was really good I soley enjoyed it. I had my own private room it also had a heater I was kept warm at night. Eateries and takeaways were very close waking distance I felt very safe in the hostel.
The room smelt like it needed to be aired out so I opened the window up for a little while smell went away and stayed away the whole time. Other wise everything was 100 percent ☺️

Reviewed Jun 25, 2026日本のビジネスホテルみたいな感じで、トイレもお風呂もめっちゃピカピカですごい綺麗でした。部屋も綺麗！お風呂の数も多くてヘアドライヤーもあって大満足でした。お湯が出ないってレビューあったけどそんなことはなかったです。あと無料でパンが食べられるってレビューがあったけどたぶん昔はあったのかな？今はなかったです。すごい人気あるバックパッカーにも1泊したけどそこはリビングルームで友達を作る目的って感じで、こっちはよくも悪くも静かでした！
ドミトリールームで予約したのですが初日が夜10時にしかチェックインできず、それを話したらシングルルームに泊まれと言われてドミトリーの2倍の値段を払わされました。夜9時以降チェックインの場合はドミトリールームはダメらしいです。夜遅いと他の人に迷惑だから、との理由でした。

Reviewed Jun 9, 2026There were two kitchens next to each other so I never had to navigate around other people when cooking. The front desk staff were very nice and helpful. The room met my expectations. The location was very convenient for me, you can cut through the lot next door (where there is a market on Saturdays!) to get to the main area of town easily.
I don't think there was an elevator, and my room was kind of far from the entrance.

Reviewed May 7, 2026Everyone I met at YHA Nelson was kind and helpful, and the facilities were spotless! My partner and I stayed here to have a safe place during a cyclone, and this was a good place for us.
My only complaint is that the music was always on throughout the day. Since we were staying there during a cyclone, there was not really anywhere else to go, and we spent a lot of time working in our notebooks and laptops in the kitchen, as we were trying to get things done. We chose the kitchen because it had more space than the common room, where the tables and outlets were all taken and someone would frequent the piano. In the kitchen, the music usually started around 10am and played until about 10pm. I had a headache most of the day from this, as I didn't really care for the music and thought it was too loud. Since we didn't really have anywhere else to go to do our work, I found this particularly aggravating. The staff did turn the music down a bit when I asked, but only marginally.

The bathrooms are clean, and the one I used had a skylight providing natural light in the faucet and sink area. The room was small but had everything necessary for a hostel setup.
I didn't like the Wi-Fi. It's really slow and constantly displays a message saying you've used up all your data. Otherwise, everything met my expectations.
