Nice location and lovely hotel garden.
Good be quite noisy until 11pm because our room was directly above the bar/ garden area.
Lovely place to stay on way up to Lake District. Good food and comfortable room.
Kitchen fan was very noisy in our room but it stopped at 11pm and didn’t go on again until 7.45am
Great value for money, brilliant atmosphere, staff were lovely
General cleanliness of the room was a little off. Nothing major, dusty in areas that aren't checked
Location, service, food
Nothing, all perfect!
Quality breakfast
Excellent location with wonderful scenery. A lovely traditional Peak District hostelry. Good choice of walks and trips.
We were booked in a small double. It felt somewhat cramped with limited storage space.
Location was excellent, the staff couldn't have been more welcoming and professional , I was most impressed
I have no issues whatsoever
Lovely people, great setting and good value.

Lovely stay, food great. Nice village.
Liked everything about our stay.
Sehr gemütliche Zimmer und ein uriger Pub, waren einfach super. Das Abendessen und das Frühstück war klasse.
Location, friendly staff, great food!
Highly recommended for great hospitality and comfortable rooms. Used the affiliated Paper Mill pub for meals and drinks. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Found their suggested local walks very useful.
Was drawn to Old Hall because of the character building, pub and restaurant, sadly it is closed on Wednesdays. Had to wait until breakfast (which was delightful) While we enjoyed the Pizza etc at Paper Mill, we had it for both lunch and supper.
The hotel was beautiful, the rooms were modern and felt very clean. It was lovely to see that the origin of the old frm house had been maintained in some aspects. Very quirky to have a little kitchen which we spent time drinking at and playing cards, it was like having an entire house to ourselves. Bathrooms were beautifully done up with wet rooms. The view of the peaks from the upper bedroom is incredible
No lights outside to go to the upper room at night Clearly newly done up and bathrooms are gorgeous but just a few missing touches - Needs a toilet roll holder, more hooks for towels
Clean, cosy, friendly and an historical treasure. Loved everything moment.
Not applicable, loved everything about it.
The food was good and the staff were extremely friendly. The room was as expected and advertised. It's a great stay if you want to visit Peak District which was the purpose of our visit.
A little bit of noise can be heard from the pub below but that can be looked past all other things considered.
Breakfast in the morning was excellent and plentiful. Room was great.
Comfortable, beautifully restored, lovely friendly service, fabulous food; both breakfast and dinner and so very atmospheric. We loved the whole experience.

Character full old Inn.
Highly recommend. This is a superb hotel and restaurant in a stunning location. After checking in, we went for a beautiful walk along the Buxworth Canal Basin (a few great walks are suggested on their website). The room was superb, the bed very comfy. The pub and restaurant is gorgeous, including the old hall where we had dinner, and the food was spectacular. Loved the classical music played during dinner which made the evening just perfect. Breakfast was amazing too. The staff are also very welcoming and friendly. I would definitely love to stay there again!
Absolutely nothing, it was superb!
Everything 10 out of 10

Delicious. Gorgeous setting. Great building. Good atmosphere.
A friendly welcome; a beautiful 'character' room with old mullioned windows; theluxury of a bath after a long day walking; a very comfortable four poster bed (+ good pillows); the covenience of a delicious early breakfast the next morning!

We stayed in the 2 roomed annex which is quirky and lovely. Suited us perfectly
N/A everything was good
Beautiful location, excellent food and drinks in the restaurant downstairs, and cosy, clean rooms!
It was unusually warm during our stay so a fan would have been nice in the rooms as they were quite warm at night. Otherwise everything was excellent!
Extraordinary village / rural location yet so convenient for both Manchester and the Peak District attractions. The food was excellent and dinner service the fastest that I have experienced anywhere. Food and drink not over priced for the quality either. Beer garden absolutely beautiful!
The weather was very hot during my stay and I would have appreciated a fridge in my room. My room was above the bar in the Paper Mill Inn, fine on the Thursday evening, but rather noisy with drinkers outside right under the window. Would request a room in The Old Hall next year.
Excellent location, a rich and varied breakfast, comfortable and modern rooms, and a charming local countryside atmosphere
Excellent location, a rich and varied breakfast, comfortable and modern rooms, and a charming local countryside atmosphere
Lovely character and atmosphere.
Good breakfast, comfortable bed
The old hall inn
Great location. Lovely rooms and garden. Local acoustic band gently playing in the bar. Nice restaurant
So pretty and the staff couldn’t have done more
Would’ve liked a fan in the room and tissues please, but really excellent stay.
Lovely country pub with a great choice of either casual dining or a more formal menu experience.
Our room, 13, was on the lower ground and directly accessed from the pub. Noise was loud until well past midnight so not great if you want an early night after a long walk!!! Also, the room above was has extremely loud floor boards so if anyone moved, you knew about it.
A charming Inn with comfortable bed. Specious bathroom was really nice
It was just the most beautiful building and surrounding area. Everything was clean and tidy. The breakfast was amazing.
Authentic old inn, sympathetically updated where required. Excellent food and service.
Beautiful building in a fabulous setting , food was amazing and the staff were super helpful either my booking that I had mixed up, they went above and beyond to arrange a room for me
Listed historic looking inn
Great place to stay. Pub and food lovely. Good breakfast included.
Room was above the entrance of the bar and outdoor seating. It was noisy until late at night and from early in the morning.
It has a lot of character. It is in 2 old buildings, one was an old hall and the other was a paper mill. It is in a beautiful part of the country, in the Peak District National Park.
Difficult to find a parking space at weekends. The room was noisy as above the bars. The room was cold, and the radiators and the towel rail could not be turned on. The quality of the food could be improved. The staff were friendly and helpful, though.
Gorgeous rooms, fab location, excellent food and great service.
Nothing really, can be tricky to park at weekends but that’s because it’s so popular.
Rooms were beautiful, well-appointed with modern bathrooms.
Getting there is a bit of a challenge! But it is a beautiful setting once you get there.
Breakfast was good and the owner pleasant and friendly.
Our flight was delayed so by the time we reached Chinley and found the hotel it was 10.15 pm. finding it wasn't easy. A surly barmaid checked us in and showed us to our room. We asked if there was anything available to eat and were told no, all the chefs had gone home at 10. She either wouldn't or couldn't make us a sandwich and the best she could offer was potato crisps. This after a 7-hour journey without food - we'd hoped to dine in comfort at the Old Hall but were sorely disappointed.
Good selection of breakfast options. Dinner was delicious.
The bed was a bit too soft
Cute cottage in great location & friendly, helpful staff.
We had WiFi issues unfortunately but we managed fine with mobile hot-spot.
Located in a lovely quiet town of Chinley with plenty of hikes around. The food offering in both Paper Mill and Old Hall in were excellent. Fantastic breakfast and even better Sunday Roast! Staff was nothing but kind and accommodating - what a gem!
The only comment for those going to bed early is that the Paper Mill rooms are located above a busy Pub, so expect noise until midnight.
Absolutely stunning location, and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Food was superb - both Supper and Breakfast. Parking was plentiful, and the room was very comfortable.
Nothing
Room ok. Bath very deep and shower in bath Not, very easy to find car park next to hotel
Breakfast disappointing Delay and wrong food brought
The whole place is fantastic .Beautiful room and restaurants.Lovely staff and excellent food
A gem of a find
Location , staff and food
Our room was absolutely gorgeous. So pleased with it. The bed was very comfortable. The whole place and sister pub the Paper Mill was like going back in time. A wonderful peak district experience. Staff were very helpful. Our breakfast at the Old Hall was very good. Because of the day we stayed part of our time was in the Paper Mill. That has pizza to die for. If you come to Chinley be prepared for tiny round about and hilly roads. All part of the experience.
Bit of confusion about where to check in and eat. But all sorted
Very nice venue, very good dinner and breakfast, super friendly staff
Great location
Had to leave
Our stay was amazing. Both the old hall inn and the paper mill inn were fantastic with totally different vibes. The food was superb, the staff were excellent and the location was perfect. The breakfast included with our stay was top quality also. We enjoyed some great walks which started and ended at the old mill inn and enjoyed our stay immensely.
Lovely location, great food and friendly staff
Location was perfect for our stay
We could have done with twin beds. Our grouping changed.
Location, quality of accommodation, friendly staff, resturant
No separate area for residents no ev charging facilities.
The Old Hall is set in a beautiful location in the Peak district. The Shepherd's cottage, which is just down the road, is spacious and comfortable. The food and cask ale were excellent and the staff friendly and helpful.
It's a shame they don't have draft Erdinger available anymore.
Gorgeous room. Clean, spacious, comfortable. Pub and restaurant across the way with great food and nice staff.
Idyllic location The room was gorgeous and comfortable The food served at both restaurants is great The staff were all delightful
The shower pressure needs improving Better quality bread is needed The room needs more hanging space for clothes
Friendly staff, very helpful. Food very high quality and excellent choice. Breakfast very good. Loved the farm house kitchen to help yourself to continental , yogurts, toaster, cereals etc. Lots of seating areas throughout the Inn, many with cosy real fires. The dinner menu was excellent. I think the flat iron steak cooked medium with pepper-corn sauce was the best I have ever tasted! Beds very comfortable, bathroom large and clean. Location perfect for walking out We look forward to returning in a different season to experience more.
Every space is utilised well. However, I would have liked a guest entrance and exit but understand the layout of the inn may not allow this. Also, a small, cosy guest lounge may not be possible either.
Breakfast was excellent - lots of choice, very relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Good standard of food. Thanks!
Friendly staff, really comfortable and great food
All good 👍
Fantastic location for my work trip, in lovely scenery! Would definitely recommend, this place is a gem. Lovely rooms, food and staff! Safe parking provided also. Will be staying again when I'm next in the area

Nice room, good night's sleep
Atmospheric old pub selling good quality beer and food, and run by attentive staff. Good location for local walking including along the tramway into Whaley Bridge. Comfortable bed.
Bedroom slightly small and furniture jaded. The ‘open’ breakfast at the weekend seems a good idea but can lead to longer delays for food.
Staff are worked very hard and cope admirably, being helpful and polite. Breakfast was quite good and owner made sure we were seen to as quickly as possible, particularly after what had happened. Beautiful location, pub seems popular with the locals.
Worst experience we've ever had through booking.com which is usually brilliant. Couldn't sleep in the room at the Old Hall Inn because of the loud bar noise until 12.30am, owner extremely cold, unsympathetic and unhelpful, claimed that info about it being noisy was on all their publicity, even though he couldn't find it himself (It isn't there, the 'small print' just warns about the sister building, the Paper Mill experiencing 'some noise'-I have the screenshot proof). Comments like 'nobody else has complained' (they have, we've seen the reviews), and 'did you not know you were booking in a pub' made us feel it was somehow our fault for being disturbed! I know he's treated other people the same way when they share their concerns. I'd checked the info thoroughly before booking, especially as it was my husband's birthday weekend and I'd wanted it to be special. We tried to tell him that the room has to be fit for purpose for that amount of money and he interrupted and complained about having to pay commission to booking.com and all his taxes! No understanding, apology or sympathy and borderline aggressive--he even complained that we'd asked booking.com for help. Got a full refund in the end, but again had to get help from booking.com to get that! He claimed he hadn't received our bank details (we'd sent proof to booking.com before this lie to prove that these details had been sent!) and the refund came through the next day. Grateful for support from booking.com to help us stand up to this man's arrogance and lies. I hope that anybody else who tries to share concerns about their stay receive an understanding and apologetic response that was sadly lacking in our experience. We've never experienced anything as bad as this in all the pubs, hotels and B and B's we've stayed in, which have usually been excellent.
The 4 post bed was amazing and worth the additional money. So comfy, like sleeping on a cloud. Gorgeous little inn, food is amazing too.
Nothing
location was nice, beautiful building, surroundings and cosy pub. parking was easy.
More adaptions for guests - Limited choice; my daughter couldn't have anything as a vegan; and a note on the menu saying adaptations weren't possible. Not offered additional tea or coffee, and eggs were uncooked on both days, and mine had a shell in it. Also staying in main inn and were locked in with no sign to exit door (turned out we were meant to leave by the fire escape door) and then couldnt open it to get back in. Second morning a huge pile of logs blocked the exit! No staff around in the mornings to assist as the pub is closed.
Room was lovely. Decor was great, the coffee machines, tv, heating was all great. The bed was very comfortable and the room. Breakfast was also amazing, perfect way to start the day.
Nothing
Superb breakfast. Delicious dinner in the Paper Mill next door (pop-up Korean). Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere.
Beautiful hotel really warm and welcoming
Nothing
The property was stunning, exuding charm on all levels. Exposed stone walls, fires lit in every room, authentic wooden beams exposed, heavy wooden tables, all suggesting the age of the hotel.
The bedrooms were too hot at night.
Lovely room and cosy bar area . Excellent breakfast
Continental breakfast was excellent with the choice of having a cooked breakfast also available. The staff are second to none. If only all staff were like this when you visited a local inn - top notch. Thank you.
Very good breakfast.
The noise from the bar below bedroom.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Log fire lit on arrival was great. Breakfast and pub meals were delicious.
We have visited the Old Hall many times for Sunday lunch and loved the location and the food which is exceptional, therefore we decided to stay for the New Year. We had a wonderful meal on New Years Eve and then went over to the Paper Mill for further festivities. We booked a double room and the Annex, which were great, the only drawback was the annexe had two separate entrances which we didn't realise when we booked, however this did not spoil our stay and we were able to manage with this. Breakfasts were great and food was plentiful. We also had Pizzas in the Paper Mill on our 2nd night, again cannot fault. The staff and Dan were excellent, nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be going back, but we will make sure we book the correct rooms on our next stay
Upper Annexe could have been warmer
Service, food, environment, location

Maybe more fresh fruit options and different bread would have been nice

Great atmosphere and decor.
Some bathroom amenities would have been nice such as shower gel etc
Very cosy and comfortable, lovely big open roaring fires, staff very attentive including owner Dan, food was very good

Lovely location and ample free parking. The whole establishment very well presented and very warm even though freezing weather. Nice clean rooms. All staff really friendly and helpful… even provided a GPS device and walking sticks for our walks - thank u!
Everything was as described, our favourite part were the staff members. Everyone was so incredibly lovely and helpful. The food was exceptional and overall the stay was incredible, we really cannot recommend it enough!
A lovely character Inn with old world charm. The super king size bed was really comfortable. The room was spacious with lots of character and tastefully decorated The bathroom was really good and the shower gel had a lovely perfume. Dan was really attentive and contacted us to make sure we had what we wanted.
There was a bit of a noise from the heating system and being an Inn there is quite a bit of noise from the beer garden so don't expect to get an early night.
Food was ok, staff were pleasant enough.
Very noisy with communal area right outside the room, rowdy loud people all night with a 4 year old try to sleep. Communal area was dirty. Smelt of fish outside for some reason, rooms were freezing. Parking was always full.
Fabulous little gem of a place. Very cosy and fantastic staff. Food was superb.
Lovely place and great staff. Recommend the restaurant too as food was excellent.
Everything about this place I love the rooms were beautiful food incredible, perfect after a long walk in the peaks, highly recommend there Sunday lunch lunch, heard about it before and it’s the best in Derbyshire! staff brilliant too brilliant everything you need for a weekend away in the countryside
