I organized a last-minute holiday to my homeland, Greece, and was lucky enough to find a room at Splanzia. It’s an absolute gem of a boutique hotel, made even more special by its wonderful hosts, Yiannis and Nikos. Honestly, I’d love to keep this place a secret, but it’s too good not to share! 😀 The location is perfect—right in the heart of old Chania and just a few minutes’ walk to the beautiful waterfront. My room was spacious, modern, and spotless. The hotel is a beautifully restored traditional house, which adds charm and atmosphere, making it feel like an essential part of the Greek experience. One of my favorite features was the gorgeous enclosed garden where breakfast is served. The breakfast itself is large and very filling—I only managed to enjoy it twice because I had to leave early for day trips. There’s also a wonderful terrace, perfect for enjoying sunsets or simply drying wet swimwear after a day at the beach. Yiannis and Nikos were exceptional hosts, offering tips on local food, nightlife, beaches, and even helping me organize day trips. Crete and Chania are stunning, and Splanzia made my stay even more memorable. Top marks to this incredible hotel—I will definitely be returning!
Great location, truly friendly staff and management and the best breakfasts I've ever had. Crete is an island that takes food seriously and this is a hotel that lives up to that ideal. Services were all terrific and the facility is built to a high standard.
Lovely area and owner were extremely helpful and accommodating!!
We had a fantastic stay in the hotel Splanzia. Location was brilliant - right in the heart of Chania town but also quiet and relaxing. The breakfast was gorgeous and the people who run the hotel are so helpful and friendly. Loved it and would definitely go back
My wife, daughter and I stayed at Splantzia Boutique Hotel and really enjoyed it. The location is perfect, right in the center, and the staff were so kind — they even waited for us when we arrived late at night. Breakfast was rich with lots of choice, including local desserts and fruit, and the room was clean and beautifully decorated. Everything was smooth from start to finish and we’d happily stay here again.
Great Location, Fantastic breakfast!
We absolutely loved our stay at this boutique hotel. The triple room was spacious for 3 people. The beds were extremely comfortable and had an old-world greek style. Nikos and Yannis (hotel owners) were wonderful hosts - super friendly and helpful! They provided us with good advice and guidance on restaurants, beaches, and the key Chania old town sights. We stayed 5 nights and every morning we woke up to the most delicious and amazing breakfast. We had a daily pastry, fresh fruit, homemade desert crepes with chocolate and banana, extensive choice of coffees, and eggs made to order. The breakfast is served in a beautiful, private, enclosed garden/patio. The room is just as pictured on the website. We loved walking out of the hotel and being right in the heart of old town Chania. There are numerous excellent restaurants and bars on the same street as the hotel. The creperie across the street from the hotel that stayed open until 3am daily was a nice treat to end our evening. Highly recommend this hotel - don't hesitate to book!
Very friendly. Pleasant spacious rooms. A bit dated.
Hotel Spanzia is a true gem of a property. Great staff. Excellent location for exploring Chania. Breakfast is not the usual lineup of warming trays. Served in the hotel’s perfect garden area, eggs are served as you wish with many choices. We had the upper floor room with a loft ( we didn’t use) . Bed are comfortable. Lovely furnishings in our room and throughout the hotel. Highly recommend.
Splanzia hotel was a wonderful experience. I traveled with my husband and we had a beautiful room by the courtyard. The room was extremely clean, bright and comfortable. The two brothers who run the hotel were very welcoming and helpful, talking us through our different options for visiting Chania and traveling in the surrounding area, as well as advice for the best food in town. They went out of their way to make sure that our stay was a great experience. The breakfast was amazing, we were offered fresh fruit, yoghurt, cereal, eggs (cooked in a multitude of ways!) toast, pancakes, freshly squeezed juice, tea and coffee. The hotel is situated in the Splanzia neighbourhood of Chania, very close to shops, bars, restaurants and the old Venetian port. Also very handy for taxis and public transport, including for the KTEL (inter-city buses). I would definitely recommend this hotel - great location, amazing hostpitality, romantic, peaceful and a great experience overall.
. Our room overlooked the garden patio, where we had a massive and delicious breakfast each day (5 day stay). Host and brothers Nikos and Ioannis treated us like family. Free street parking - but only on a few streets. There are some pay lots a short walk away
We stayed here for a fortnight. Brothers Nicos and Iannis were extremely welcoming hosts, advising us well on restaurants and sights. The location is ideal – away from the main tourist area but only 5 minutes’ walk away from the seafront and a host of restaurants. Our room 14 was sizeable and comfortable. This room, out of the 8 in the hotel had its own balcony and seat with outside steps leading to the breakfast garden. Breakfasts were massive – pies, yoghurt, eggs in many ways, bacon etc, cakes, fruit, orange juice. The hotel has access to secure off-street parking immediately opposite but this costs €19 for 24 hours. We parked for free on streets nearby but this did mean quite a bit of driving around to find a free spot.
Very good little hotel right in the center of Chania. Friendly service and wonderful breakfast served in a charming courtyard ( the best we had in Crete) Parking can be difficult but there is a garage right in front. It is the perfect place to enjoy Chania and I would recommend it to all
Splanzia was amazing. Believe the ratings and the reviews. I can’t imagine there is a better place for a couple to stay than here. Loannis and his family that runs it takes pride in their place and it shows from breakfast to dealing with quests on a personal level till late night. Breakfast in the courtyard was a feast. They don’t stop bringing you fresh fruit, juice, coffee, yogurt, breads, eggs, pastries….. (We didn’t have lunch either day) Parking can be a challenge but we found spots with a little patience. We stayed two nights and I regret not staying longer.
Great breakfast
Excellent in every way. A family -run small hotel quietly located in the centre of Chania old town. Tranquil garden where breakfast is served; an enormous choice of food, some dishes freshly cooked. Spacious elegant bedroom with high ceiling and sophisticated lighting. Exceptionally friendly and helpful proprieters. Highly recommended.
Wonderful accommodations and experience in every respect. Comfortable, modern rooms in a charmingly renovated historic building. We (two couples) had rooms on the top floor with great privacy and an outside deck. Our hosts elevated our whole experience. The three generations of the owning and operating family quietly and unobtrusively met--in fact, anticipated--at every turn, recommending destinations in and out of Chania, restaurants, and other interesting enhancements to our trip. Everybody was there to say goodby when we checked out. We will not even think about staying anywhere else when we return.
Nikos, Giannas and the family were exceptional hosts for us. The hotel felt more like a quaint B&B to us, with a very comfortable room healthy, central location perfectly placed in Chania's heart, and never-ending breakfasts each morning (definitely eat the Greek yogurt with honey!) They had smart tips on where to park, best nearby beaches, and what was happening in the city. Plus, when we left some clothes in the armoire, they were helpful enough to have it sent to Athens at our next hotel.
Beautiful room with outdoor terrace for an amazing morning coffee. Extremely clean hotel. Nikos was awesome to work with, helped us with suggestions of restaurants as well as day trips. Hotel’s location is close to everything. Highly recommend!!!
Perfect location right in the outskirts of Chania town but still in the center. Maybe 5-9 min walk to the water and another 20-25 min walk to the nearest beach town Nea Chora. The room was very large for 2 people and perfectly cleaned. The bathroom felt very separate from the main room and the door is heavy/secure so allows for great privacy. The highlight of the hotel besides the location and comfort of the room is the made-to-order BREAKFAST! Unbelievable variety of food (actually too much for two people) with coffee, tea, cereals, eggs prepared how you like, fresh orange juice, pastry, fresh jam with variety daily (fig, pear), fruit platter (grapes, watermelon, melon, nectarine), bread and another small appetizer of vegetables. Truly is an incredible spread and we saved whatever we couldn’t eat to snack on later.
Very nice room, with a door/window overlooking the rear courtyard. Very clean. Breakfast in the courtyard was varied and delicious. Very helpful owners, who provided beach towels and directions, and restaurant recommendations. They also arranged taxi to and from the airport, which worked seamlessly.
Exceptionally located property in the heart of Chania. We were a few minutes walking distance from everything - delicious restaurants, the harbor, the bus stop, etc. The owners are incredibly thoughtful and kind, providing delicious and bountiful breakfasts in their picturesque garden. Fabulous way to start the day. They also took the time to orient us with the neighborhood map and provide various recommendations. They were accommodating of our schedule, securing our luggage when we arrived hours before check-in and then doing the same when we departed hours after checkout. Our room was beautifully appointed and spacious. Loved the décor and especially the twinkling stars that doubled as a nightlight. Highly recommend this hotel if you're looking for a well-priced, conveniently-located, charming hotel in the perfect location.
This was my second visit to Chania and to this hotel. I love this hotel! The owners are extremely friendly and helpful, the hotel is charming and peaceful, and the location is perfect. The breakfast is fabulous, delicious, plentiful and fresh. It's so plentiful that you don't need to eat again until dinner. There are good restaurants across the street and good coffee shops on the same block. The courtyard where breakfast is held is a very pleasant and tastefully appointed spot, utilizing the historic aspects of the building. I highly recommend the Splanzia Boutique Hotel if you are visiting Chania.
Such a great place! The staff are super friendly, and always willing to help. The rooms and hotel are very clean with fresh towels daily. Tr bed was very comfortable. The breakfast is spectacular. We were expecting a choice of cereal, eggs and pancakes. Instead you get a choice of what cereal you want and eggs and pancakes! Plus a selection of freshly made pastries, fresh fruit and vegetables, OJ and tea and coffee. Is located in a really great spot in Old Town close to the water and amazing restaurants.
We stayed three nights in room 13, which was so lovely. Overlooking their courtyard, and no noise at all in the night. Comfy bed, beautiful star lights on the ceiling, coffee pods, beautiful old building, family run…..so friendly and helpful and delicious breakfasts! Showed us where to go on map, happy to organise car hire if needed or tours etc. Was a really lovely location and a wonderful few days. Highly recommend.
We had a wonderful three-night stay at the Hotel Splanzia for our honeymoon. The check-in process was extremely smooth and staff were attentive to all of our needs during our stay, including recommendations for restaurants. Ioannis even made us sandwiches for our hike through the Samaria Gorge - very thoughtful. The breakfasts were delicious, with a variety of food choices and lots to eat. The location is perfect for exploring Chania and a great jumping off point for exploring Crete overall. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Chania!
Extremely friendly and warm faculty run hotel. Amazing fresh breakfast. Thoroughly recommend. Our Room was not quite boutique design but very clean and comfortable
No coffee, water included in room rate. Staff were very nice and helpful. Great location to old city.
I'll with saying the hotel is amazing. It provided the perfect local, authentic solution to staying in and experiencing Chania without having to sacrifice anything. The room contained a queen size bed with plenty or room and storage around the space. We also had access to a front balcony. Aside from the room the hotel is central to all the main tourist attractions and is surrounded by excellent food venues. The thing that puts this hotel over the top are the brothers in particular Nikos who welcome suou on arrival introduces to you to the main attractions and ensures your stay is as comfortable as possible. Finally, the breakfast that Nikos provides is amazing daily omelette cooked to order. Pancakes, cereals, fresh juice, coffee and too many additional local delicate that are delicious. Overall, this has been one of my most enjoyable hotel experiences.
We had a very enjoyable stay at Splanzia. The breakfasts in the lovely courtyard were delicious and plentiful. The staff were very helpful and the neighborhood great. We had a room on the street but it still was very quiet.
The staff was amazingly. They were friendly, helpful, and made the stay an absolute joy.
We went on honeymoon to Chania. The two brothers who run the hotel are exceptionally helpful and friendly. Breakfast is a delicious feast and the location in Chania is fantastic. Very easy to get to the old port and within easy reach of lots of choices of restaurants, cafes and bars.
We stayed in Splanzia for 5 days in late June 2018. I was not sure about booking it vs. a more expensive hotel with parking included and right in the harbor. Splanzia was less expensive but the price was NOT my consideration at all. I finally chose it for being described as quiet, away from the noise of bars and restaurants at night. What a lucky decision! Location is absolutely ideal: 5-10 minutes walk to everything you might want to go to. At the same time, it is indeed quiet and feels more like home than a busy touristy hotel. One of the most pleasant hotels we have stayed in many years. The hotel is family run and EXCEPTIONALLY efficient and comfortable. We were on the third floor without elevator but barely noticed it because the manager took our luggage up immediately and cheerfully. EVERY time with had ANY question (even a stupid one), the response was positive, immediate and to the point. Customer service, in other words, is stellar! The room is sufficiently big and elegantly decorated. Nothing unnecessary, but all you might need. Everything worked perfectly, even WiFi, which is not at all given in Greece. Clean, well kept and authentically decorated. Even my very demanding husband absolutely loved it. The daily breakfast is served on a cozy terrace looking like a small museum of ancient artifacts. It is served by one of the managers and cooked right there basically in front of you. Everything is fresh, delicious and nutritious. A pleasure to even think of it...
We spent 5 nights at this small boutique hotel and really enjoyed our stay. The location was very good, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The breakfast is also very good with lots of variety. Because it is a small hotel, it also feels cozy. The hotel has a nice and comfortable garden. There is also a laundromat a few doors down, which came in very handy after two weeks of traveling.
Wonderful location, very warm hospitality, fantastic breakfast, very well remodeled home/hotel. A few minor changes would make this an even better place: don't charge for coffee in the room, for example, and make facial tissues and a second dustbin available.
Lovely hotel in great location within old town and close to good restaurants and harbour. Really good and generous breakfast with lots of little extras, served in pretty courtyard. Run by 2 brothers who were very friendly and solicitous. Highly recommended.
We stayed 4 nights at Splanzia Hotel. This was our home base to visit the area. The staff gave us good advise to visit the region (like the great beaches only 15 minutes away). Very nice (and large) room, the nicest in out trip. Excellent breakfast on site and there are very good restaurants just across the street. Convenient private parking ($) also across the street, very easy to get in and out of there for your day trips.
We stayed for four nights at Splanzia. It is a very comfortable hotel with large and clean rooms, and is located in a nice area with easy walking access to the old harbour, shopping and eating places. The people at Splanzia are very knowledgeable and helpful, and their recommendations on things to see, do and eat gave us a great sampler of Chania and its surrounding areas. We would love to be back!
Must consider this as a beautiful place for a first choice.
Friendly, hospitable staff. Lovely surroundings. Breakfast always contained some local specialty. I wish our trip were longer. We felt so comfortable here. Thank you Nikos and Yiannis.
Excellent location, beautiful hotel, newly renovated rooms, marvellous breakfast open-air including local tastes and super-friendly staff. Would recommend the hotel to anyone.
We had a wonderful stay! Would highly recommend this hotel. Breakfast was delicious every morning. Staff were so helpful and friendly. Location is excellent for getting around to see the sights and many great restaurants near by. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. Would definitely stay there again!
Very comfortable, lovely owners, great position. Very stylish bedroom.
Stayed for 3 nights and absolutely loved it! Room was clean and spacious, and breakfast was amazing! Highly recommend and worth the price.
From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was large with a modern efficient bathroom even though the hotel was clearly an old building. Breakfast had many different choices including cooked breakfasts and set us up for the day. We had a late flight on the day we left and we're pleased to be able to leave our luggage in order to fully enjoy our last day in Chania.
Our first visit to Chania was made all the more enjoyable by staying in this very friendly hotel in former family home. The sons and staff could not have been more helpful. Breakfasts were plentiful. The courses catered for many tastes and kept coming! Early breakfast sandwiches and fruit were provided for our extra early tour day starts. The central location made it very easy to reach pick up points, for exploring the old town, port, public and street markets without need for any public transport. A wide variety of excellent tavernas are close by. Many excursions and adventures can be made from Chania. A delightful hotel which we will revisit if possible. The local taxi driver provided by the hotel on request drove safely. His rates were competitive. Out of town we noticed many, many modern hotels. There are beaches easily reached.
Fantastic stay! The hotel has just been remodeled--amazing! The owner brothers were very helpful with sights to see, restaurants, helped us rent a car and stored our luggage. Can't say enough!
Great location, great hotel - comfortable and clean. Could be a challenge to find parking in front of hotel but you can easily park within a 5 min walking distance. I would definitely go back!
Absolutely brilliant little hotel. Warm welcome from everyone and such attention to detail. The 'Splazia' breakfast deserves a special mention of its own it's such a treat. One of the best places I have ever stayed in when in Greece. We really felt looked after and can't wait to have the chance to stay again!
Iannis and Nikos were perfect hosts for our short stay in Chania. We especially appreciated their readiness to change our room from one facing the street to a quieter one overlooking the terrace after our first night. The made to order breakfast rates among the best we've ever enjoyed, and was plentiful enough to keep us going the whole day. The hotel is located in the old Turkish section of Old Town within easy walking distance of the old harbor, market, bus station and many restaurants and tavernas. We would definitely stay there again.
We stayed here for 3 nights. Room very comfortable, lovely roof top terrace, huge varied breakfasts ( we couldn't eat it all), friendly helpful staff, lovely square 2 mins away with loads of cafes and bars.
Fantastic location and very helpful, friendly staff.
Very comfortable place to stay and explore Chania.
Breakfast was amazing. Very close to old town and harbour. We were made to feel very welcome.....staff couldn't do enough for us.
Superior service, super location (walking distance from the old port), beautiful courtyard. The two brothers who own the hotel were extremely helpful and kind. The breakfast was fresh, delicious and abondant. The rooms were both spacious and elegant. The free fruit and raki were a nice touch.
Our stay in Splanzia Hotel made our visit to Chania even more special. Upon our arrival the staff proactively took the time to understand what we wanted to get out of our stay and tailored a number of itineraries for us to consider. They also ensured we were aware of where the best eats were in town. The breakfast was fantastic and plentiful. The rooms ver spacious and clean. We were very sad when it was time to leave. I would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Chania. Many thanks to the hotel for such a great experience and life long memories.
The nicely renovated Venetian villa is located just a few minutes from the Old Town and the harbor. Breakfast was served daily with all types of fresh fruit, yogurt, egg dishes made to order and fresh squeezed orange juice. The hotel is family run and the staff took every effort to make sure our stay was perfect. A very unique and special experience, great for couples.
Great owners. Will bend over backwards for you. Parking available across the street for 8 euro. Cute rooms. Almost worth staying here just for the breakfast! Amazing!!
Great hotel in a good location. Friendly staff that managed to be attentive without being over the top. Best hotel we've used in Chania.
The two fellows who run Splanzia are eager to please: thoughtful, sweet, capable. The room was spotless, basic, sufficient and little more. Breakfast was typically Cretan - healthy, varied and in large quantity! The location was excellent, we had no trouble with street noise but were near the essentials in lovely Chania.
Awesome lovely small boutique hotel located right in the heart of the old town...Room was gorgeous, and huge btw! VERY comfortable and beautifully decorated evoking old-world charm...Outdoor courtyards and walkouts were lovely too and we saved a fortune not having to take a taxi anywhere at all. But truly the breakfast buffet was simply beyond anything you could expect, all food was delicious, hot, made fresh....hats off to the chef! Exceptional service as well by the owners, only a family-owned hotel would ever be run with this high level of service. Loved every minute, could not recommend this hotel more highly....Thank you so much for such a lovely stay. Carole and Arielle from Canada
The location of the hotel is hard to beat. The owners are very friendly and extremely helpful in helping find great restaurants or navigating your way to some of the attractions on the island. The breakfasts served in the morning are outstanding and there is something available for everyone. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.
Great staff, great service. Near old town. I would stay again anytime.
The hotel is centrally located between the old and new city and close to the bus station, making it easy to get around. The fact that it is not clustered near the touristy part of town made it much more enjoyable for us as we like to get the real feel of where we are traveling to. (If I wanted to be around other tourists, then I'd stay in NYC for that!) The hotel is cozy and I felt right at home. The room was a nice mix of traditional and modern, was clean, and well kept. We especially enjoyed our hosts hospitality and the wonderful breakfast included. Best hotel in Chania!
Superb location in a beautifully converted old Turkish house in the old town. Excellent breakfast served in the courtyard in the centre of the house. Friendly, helpful owners who went out of their way to make our stay an enjoyable experience.
Nikos and Yonni bent over backwards to make our stay amazing. The breakfast is outstanding as the great food seems never ending . I wanted to stay another night but our plans didn't allow it. I recommend this hotel to anyone and everyone. If I ever have the opportunity to return to Chania, I will definitely stay here again!!
My wife and I stayed at Hotel Splanzia for four nights. For starters, the location is perfect if you want easy access (a few blocks away) to the waterfront tourist area but also would like to escape it all for a decent night's rest. If you want absolute, suburban quiet, however, I don't recommend staying ANYWHERE in Hania. However, Splanzia (the neighborhood and the hotel) is much quieter than the waterfront. There are reasonable, good restaurants on the same street, as well as a bakery, a convenience kiosk and a small grocery, which sells fresh fruit. What is really apparent is that the folks that run Splanzia really care about their guest's lodging experience; as such, the service is outstanding (Breakfast in the shady courtyard is absolutely fantastic and really adds to the value of this hotel.), and the entire hotel is very, very clean and tidy and the spacious rooms have excellent air conditioning. As a bonus, they offer free wi-fi, and I never had a problem connecting to it from my room, the lobby, the courtyard or the rooftop terrace using my handheld. In the end, if our travels take us back to Hania, we will definitely stay at Hotel Splanzia.
I was very happy with the choice I made. The hosts, Nikos and Yanni went above the call of duty to help us enjoy our holiday. I was going to select a hotel closer to the harbor, but as I walked around and heard the noise of that area, the little walk that we had was worth the quiet. You will love this place.
Chania has an old town and a new town. Splanzia is located in the old town with the old Venetian Harbor and Lighthouse. The surrounding area has so much personality and character. You really feel transported away from the modern world to a much simpler relaxing place. Staying at the Splanzia is like being invited to a friend's house and being well taken care of. The rooms are majestically designed and comfortable. The service is very friendly and they treat you like family. One of the most memorable things of the hotel among many memorable things is the amazing breakfast. The breakfast is made to order and the friendly lady brought many small dishes that gave us a real sample of a deliscious Greek breakfast. One day we had to leave early in the morning and the owner woke up early just to make us breakfast to go! The rooms had 4-poster beds which lent to the old world ambiance. Very happy we discovered this gem. Hope everyone gets to enjoy Splanzia as much as we did.
Hotel Splanzia is a beautifully renovated/maintained boutique hotel in the central part of Chania. Rooms are airy and a nice size, very comfortable for the price. The brothers who own/run the hotel could not be friendlier and more helpful. Possibly the best breakfast I have ever had at a hotel, including homemade pastry and sweet items (which were different each day), served in a beautiful garden in the back. They even accommodated an early start one day when I was off to hike the Samaria Gorge. Very highly recommended.
We enjoyed our visit very much. The breakfast menu was excellent and the food was delicious. The hotel staff was helpful and friendly. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to visit Chania!
