Cantley House Hotel - Wokingham vs Similar Hotels

Mixed room quality: some guests had spacious, comfortable or upgraded rooms, while others reported tired, shabby or poorly maintained rooms and bathrooms needing refurbishment.

Rooms are typically spacious with very comfortable beds and good family room options; some reports of wear (damaged walls, gaps in curtains) and occasional AC or TV issues.

Multiple reviews cite poor cleanliness in some rooms: mould and rust in showers, stained sofas, sticky carpets and insect issues; cleanliness is a clear weakness in parts of the property.

Generally reported as clean and well maintained (many guests noted 'clean' or 'very clean'), but occasional issues mentioned such as curtain holes, bathroom needing a deep clean and some wall damage.

Location repeatedly praised as excellent, peaceful and convenient for the venue and town, often cited as a strong positive.

Convenient for transit (bus nearby) and parking, but several guests noted the hotel is a 15–25 minute walk to the old centre — somewhat removed from the historic centre.

Staff are frequently described as polite, professional and helpful with thoughtful upgrades; however there are service lapses (promised refunds/contact not followed up, noisy event handling) that reduced consistency.

Staff repeatedly described as friendly, helpful and professional; reception assisted with room issues (e.g., aircon), and family-friendly service was highlighted.

Breakfast and food receive consistently strong praise (described as lovely/fantastic); occasional issues when restaurant closed for events but F&B is overall a highlight.

Breakfast is generally praised as good/tasty by many guests, but a minority found it lacking or considered it too expensive.

Several amenity issues reported: lack of air conditioning/fridge, no insect screens, inconsistent in-room supplies (water), occasional tech problems (TV/router) and restaurant closures for events.

Basic amenities present, but shortcomings noted: paid and narrow underground parking, no in-room fridge, limited evening dining options, and some guests experienced AC/TV problems or difficulty controlling the aircon.

Multiple guests explicitly called out poor value (unexpected charges for water and Z-bed, overpriced for what was delivered); a few felt it was acceptable for a short stopover but value is generally questioned.

Frequently described as good value—especially for families or group rates—though extra charges for parking and breakfast reduce perceived value for some guests.
