Great location, excellent views, terrific friendly & helpful staff
the location and the view amazing so nice building the service they have nice breakfast as well

The hotel has the best view of the town. The location is very convenient, close to the beach and situated in a lovely area. The hotel’s decoration and lobby are very elegant and stylish. The air conditioning works very well, which is definitely important during the hot summer days in Greece! The reception ladies are also very kind, welcoming, and always happy to help. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel!
The bathroom feels a little old-fashioned and could use some updating. Unfortunately, we also didn’t find the breakfast particularly tasty. Much of it tasted like supermarket food, which was a little disappointing considering the hotel’s overall standard. The coffee wasn’t very good either, including the Greek coffee. Another thing I noticed was that there was a scent in the room when we first entered that I personally didn’t find very pleasant, but it didn't bother my friend.
Hotel is a beautiful ship merchants house, in the medieval section of a stylish town, with views across the sea .Enjoying the comings and goings of the ferries into the island's Port. A renovated active Theater to visit,€2 for an independent look around too. We were upgraded too. Thank you. The staff were helpful and friendly, especially, the very happy waitress called Hope. It was helpful to have breakfast served to you too. The shower lotions etc were great,as were the luxury fluffy towels. A kettle was found too. The downstairs public spaces were furnished comfortably. Liked the records playing in the reception area, very much. The ornate original interiors were a joy to see, especially the ceilings.
These downstairs public spaces, were underused and it felt a lost opportunity by the hotel management. The upstairs breakfast/bar area( except breakfast time ), again was sadly, underused. The offer of bar 6-9pm seemed to fail to attract guests, during our 3 nights. Maybe, the hotel could introduce a welcome type canapes and a drink, for new guests, and maybe a happy hour. The view from there, warrants better use! The hotel is an old building, probably 19th century so, expect high ceilings and small room dimensions and balcony. The balcony is adequate but would be improved with more comfortable seating, to enjoy the view. The bathroom was modern, with a reliable hairdryer. Breakfast, is offered with 2 different menus. One included and the other, is extra cost which mainly consists of egg dishes and machine coffee. For the overall hotel cost, this feels unnecessary in cost cutting and leaves a bitter taste. All breakfast portions appear to be carefully apportioned, which is good to avoid food waste. But the offer of further tea, fruit etc felt with held...you had to actively ask for a further helping. It was never offered .The seating in this area, would benefit from ALL seats having a cushion. Finally, taxis to the port with luggage charge €10 not 6. The nearby, concrete beach was very busy when we visited. There are sandy beaches, in nearby Kini(30 min bus ride ) for €2 each. Bus stop is far side of the Port, near Gasoline station.
Excellent building, beautifully preserved and refurbished while still keeping its old-world charm. We had one of the front-facing rooms with a balcony, and honestly, the view was unbeatable. I’m not sure there are many places with a better or more uplifting view than the one from our room. The reception and working area, with the long table, were really comfortable, cosy and inspiring. The staff were excellent—always happy to help and gave us great recommendations without ever trying to sell us anything. There’s no car park, which we knew beforehand, but if you don’t mind walking for about 5 minutes, there’s a public parking area nearby where you can park for free. The only comment I’d make is regarding the breakfast, which felt a little too basic for a 4-star hotel. An omelette and coffee other than filter coffee came at an extra charge, which I found a bit poor given what we had paid for our stay.

Historical
A bit noisy,people slamming doors
The location and the architecture. The rooms felt very classical and the flower deck had some of the best views of the sea. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to our every need. We were less than a 10 minute walk from anywhere in Ermoupoli and right across the street from the old port which is the main famous swimming area in the town.
The rooms were small since the building is old.
Everything. Location, the staff, the interiors, room was gorgeous, breakfast was lovely, proximity to everything.
Nothing!
The view. Decor and rooftop terrace for breakfast
the furniture made a large noise when opening and closing the door. not enough towels and nowhere to put our suitcase but the floor.
The view
Small rooms

Excellent location and a beautiful view to the sea from our room !
A little more attention to detail could be paid to the cleaning of the rooms otherwise we had a perfect stay .
The location, the room and the very helpful staff. When I arrived, they forgot to allocate me a room for the four nights that I booked months ago, I had to stay in their base standard room for one night but provided me with an upgraded room for the remaining three nights as a solution so I was very happy with that in the end.
For me personally, I paid a lot to stay in a nicer room, the included breakfast lacks the basics like fried, scrambled eggs or an omelette. They are on a separate paid menu. Only boiled eggs are free.
Location and roof terrace . Very comfortable mattress
No water in the room except for two tiny bottles the first day. 2 pods of coffee. No milk no tea. At breakfast a lot of stuff is charged - ie normal coffee or cappuccino etc.
Our stay at the hotel was above expectations. The wonderful staff at the hotel went above and beyond in helping us with our request. Location is also amazing with wonderful views
Arredamento datato.
Location is amazing
No Service provided to support with luggage. No Breakfast buffet. A la cart menu only. Choices included in breakfast limited. If you want of course to order scrambled eggs or omelette or fried eggs you can but you have to pay extra from separate breakfast menu.
Syrou Melathron is undoubtedly a special place. The historic neoclassical building, its beautiful architectural details and its exceptional position in Vaporia, overlooking the Aegean, create an atmosphere that is both elegant and authentic. Staying here feels like experiencing a small part of the history and character of Ermoupoli, rather than simply staying in a hotel. The building itself is the true jewel of the property.
In particular, I was somewhat surprised by the presentation of the staff members assisting at breakfast. The attire— a strapless top with distressed jeans—felt considerably too casual for the setting and, in my opinion, did not reflect the elegance, history and boutique character of the hotel. This is certainly a matter of personal perception, and I mention it respectfully, but I believe the way staff are presented contributes significantly to the image and atmosphere of a property of this calibre. It was a shame to see such a beautiful and refined historic setting paired with an appearance that felt more casual than the surroundings suggested. The breakfast was another area where I felt the experience fell slightly short of expectations. Only filter coffee was included, and when we requested a Freddo Espresso—a very common coffee choice in Greece—we were charged separately for it. While the additional charge itself was not significant, it was disappointing given the overall price of our stay. At this level, I would expect a broader coffee selection to be part of the breakfast experience, without guests having to pay extra for a basic coffee preparation. These are relatively small details, but at a boutique hotel with such a remarkable history, beautiful surroundings and a premium price, they become more noticeable. The property has so much elegance and personality that I believe the service, staff presentation and breakfast offering should aspire to the same standard.
Best hotel in Syros

Location and building
breakfast service .Service in general
The location was fantastic and the building beautiful. The room was pretty basic, but clean and comfortable. The shared balcony was very large and had a beautiful view.
When we arrived we were told there was no one to help with our bags. The only staff was the one person on the front desk (we didn’t come across any other staff our entire stay except at breakfast). No concierge. Luckily one of the guests helped us with our suitcases from the pavement up the stairs to the front door. From there my daughter had I can to carry our own cases which were heavy. The breakfast was disappointing compared to all the other hotels in Greece we have been to. The staff at the restaurant were rude. Unfriendly and unhelpful.
Excellent location. Very elegant building Very clean
We have asked for a cup of tea in the evening but was not any service except of breakfast
The view from our balcony was honestly incredible. The sea stretched out as far as you could see, and it was so peaceful to sit there and take it all in. The hotel is in a beautiful, elegant part of Ermoupoli, surrounded by stunning neoclassical buildings. Everything was spotless, the interior of the hotel is full of character, and it's just a short walk to the centre. The staff were also really friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. We're looking forward to coming back again next year.
Incredibly charming, beautiful staff, lovely breakfast. Loved the records and my daughter loved the Asterix books in the library. The staff were brilliant, organising transfers with ease and giving advice.
The bathroom in the balcony room is fine but had a very small shower, and the fridge could only take a couple of water bottles. Otherwise it was excellent and beautiful in its historical style and ambience
Accueil, professionalisme, emplacement, petit déjeuner - chambre vue sur mer exceptionnelle
Néant
I had the most fantastic stay in Syros. I booked a double room with a view at Syrou Melathron at the last minute and it was amazing! I had a balcony and could watch the moon the full moon illuminate the harbour. There was a swimming spot below the hotel, which was super convienent. The staff were so helpful and lovely! Breakfast was also great.
I really can't fault this hotel. I wish I had stayed longer!
Only location
- Not very clean (dirty marks on the coffee machine, dusty) - Breakfast was included in the price but was only boiled eggs and snacking, they didn’t have breakfast buffet anything else was with extra charge -Different rooms than in photos, it was disappointing i was expecting a bigger room, nicer view from the window. there was no view from the window the balcony was a different layout than in the photos
The view was fantastic! The hotel is very oldie worldie and just stunning. The restaurant/bar rooftop was lovely. Big bathroom, comfy bed, lovely balcony with table and chairs. Big mirror.
My one and only complaint and its not even realky a complaint. The lady who worked at breakfast time. She was so grumpy 🤣 literally everything seemed like a problem - so much so we didnt enjoy our breakfast experience. Also to note that breakfast thats included is very basic, you have to pay extra for most things, even a cappuccino. Id much rather pay extra on my booking for breakfast and have it all included.
Hervorragender Double Greek Kaffee
Lovely view of the ocean, close to swimming platform/beach Vaporia. Bed comfortable.
All the room furnishings need updating. TV was placed impossibly high on the wall?? Pillows need replacing. Worn out, poor quality. 3 pillows for 2 people?? Floor was not cleaned each day. Feet became dirty when walking in the room. No shower screen installed on bath, water everywhere when shower used. Someone needs to put some effort into lifting the standard here as it is a lovely historic building in a great location. Disappointing.
Location and views from roof terrace. Attractive period building.
Rooms quite small with no outlook.
lovely breakfast on the terrace with sea view. i wonder why the terrace is not generally open for guests throughout the day. especially if you have a room without a view it would be amazing to hang out there. rooms very clean. i had a room upgrade and got stunning views and little terrace if thats what you are after.
The hotel was ablsolutely beautiful and was located a short, uphill walk from the ferry port. This provided us with a bit more privacy and less noise than if we had stayed closer to the city center. There was also a small swimming platform less than a 5 minute walk away from the hotel which we visted almost every day. It was a very popular spot but we could always find a place to put our towels and bags. Breakfast was located on the rooftop and a simple menu was included with the stay with add on options available for a fee. The base breakfast was delicous and provided us with plenty of food. The staff at Syrou Melathron was very kind and accomidating and all spoke English. Of note, they allowed us to check out an hour later than normal so we had to spend less time waiting at the port for our ferry. We appreciated this very much! The room we stayed in had a gorgeous ocean view and the bed and linens we extremely comfortable. There was a working AC in the room, though we opted for keeping our balcony doors open when we were in the room to allow the breeze coming off the water to cool us down. The bathroom was large with plenty of counter space and the shower was spacious with excellent water pressure and temperature. Every area of the hotel was clean and comfortable.
The only thing that would have made our stay just a bit better would be if there had been more drawer space to store our clothing in the room than just the wardrobe with several hangers. This was not that big of a deal however, we just had to keep our clothing in our suitcases or layed out on the chaise lounge in the room.
The view from my room was fantastic. The breakfast was delicious and plenty to choose. Also the staff was very helpful and kind.
Very elegant and an amazing outlook. Kind staff. Very good value and an easy walk into the centre.

The location and the staff was very friendly and professional
We enjoyed everything
We loved our stay at Syrou Melatron. The hotel is gorgeous and meticulously styled, as was the bedroom. The staff were super lovely and helpful and we had amazing breakfasts every day. The only disappointing thing was that we didn’t stay longer! Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Beautiful old world charm hotel with super friendly and helpful staff
The staff are really helpful and welcoming. Breakfast is always fab too.
Nothing, I love staying here.
Breakfast was sizeable and served on a wonderful terrace. The hotel is an architectural gem and the rooms were very well restored (my room had an uninterrupted sea view).
It is the off season and so understandably the evening wine bar on the terrace was closed.

Gorgeous architecture all around. Amazing views from rooms and the rooftop bar, great place for evening drinks and breakfast!
Property was clean, staff welcoming and the suites large. Breakfast was also very delicious!
The hotel is located along Kassou, in the Vaporia district, just further up from the magnificent Church of St Nicholas. It’s located in the neo-classical mansion built in 1857, so there is a bit of history there. The building is often used for advertising shots due to its original features and location, as was during our stay. There is no parking in the vicinity of the hotel bar some tight spaces near the Police HQ further up or a large municipal (and free) car park about half a mile away. We stayed in Room 2 on the ground floor, which is probably the grandest room in the hotel. It was a mezzanine arrangement, the main bedroom with a huge bed on the lower floor and two smaller beds on the upper. Both rooms were sumptuously decorated and there was plenty of seating available. Being on the ground floor we were close to the street although double glazing and heavy curtain muffled any outside noise. There was a large wardrobe with a safe box. Coffee-making facilities were provided. WiFi signal was good, AC worked perfectly. The bathroom on the upper floor was rather tight and separated from the main room by glass partitioning. Slippers were provided. Breakfast was served on the terrace on the second floor, which doubles as a bar in the evenings; we used a small lift to get there. You chose items from the menu and they were served by friendly staff. In common with all hotels in Cyclades, any coffee was a payable extra. The hotel did not provide evening meals although with a plethora of restaurants downtown, within walking distance, there was really no need for one. We mainly patronised restaurants in the Kiparissou area – they served great food and were excellent value for money. For that romantic atmosphere we went to Mazi restaurant, just off the main square.
When you select the room configuration and actually pay, it’s well after that you receive communication from the hotel that that configuration is not available so travelling as two male friends they have us a double bed only. You receive only once on arrival coffee pods in your room and water thereafter nothing. The bar opens on the rooftop 8pm - 11pm and when we asked as we like to have a pre dinner drink they reply it’s our schedule and it’s hot. No for real, like we have no interest in creating a revenue stream and are happy for our guests to go and buy cocktails from the hotel just up the road who open at 6.30pm. At breakfast we watched a lady request her eggs that were too running be told I am not sure we can cook them more we need to ask. We were horrified.
Purely the location the staff all consistently obnoxious and it’s clear the actual owners don’t step foot in this building.
Well maintained period building. Fabulous decoration preserving features of the original construction.
We enjoyed morning, breakfast and night time drinks and snacks with Thomas. We found him to be very informative and entertaining..
