Beautiful hotel , close to the town square. Very friendly staff. Nothing was to much to ask for. Very comfy bed and quirky style (but very nice) bathroom. Excellent breakfast and service.

Only very minor. The central patio area has tables and chairs and not much shade. Would have preferred more comfortable chairs with more shading. Some of the breakfast fruit offered wasn’t yet ripe.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Castro in Syros. The staff were absolutely amazing, incredibly friendly, welcoming and genuinely kind, especially with our little one, which made our stay even more enjoyable. The breakfast was excellent, with a great selection of fresh and tasty products, and everything felt carefully prepared. A lovely hotel with a warm and personal atmosphere. We really enjoyed our time here and will definitely come back next time we are in Syros. Highly recommended!

Δεν είναι ότι δεν μας άρεσε απλά τα γράφουμε ως προτάσεις για βελτίωση. Το πρωινό θα μπορούσε να είναι πιο πλούσιο για 5αστερο ξενοδοχείο. Συγκεκριμένα να είχε γλυκές επιλογές καταλόγου και όχι μόνο αλμυρές με αυγά, όπως pancakes, βάφλες κλπ. Επίσης έλειπαν συριανά προϊόντα που θα θέλαμε να δούμε. Το WiFi ήταν ανύπαρκτο. Θα μπορούσε να έχει κάπου ιδιωτικό πάρκινγκ όπως άλλα ξενοδοχείο στην περιοχή

Quarto interior e escuro Num dos dias quando cheguei para tomar o pequeno-almoço no horário em que me disseram ser servido já haviam retirado o buffet. A meu pedido trouxeram me uma omolete seca pão duro e fatias de fiambre num prato. No dia do check out tive de sair por causa do voo às. 9h, já tinha pedido para me reservarem um táxi. De novo o pequeno-almoço não estava disponível e após ter insistido para me prepararem algo, com mais modos voltaram a trazer me uma omolete seca e duas fatias de pão duro, como se fosse uma esmola. O hotel não é um cinco estrelas. Há hotéis com três estrelas melhores. Falta de profissionalismo exigidos em qualquer estabelecimento e sobretudo quando se cobra mais de €300 por noite.

Wonderful boutique hotel in an excellent location. Very close to restaurants and historical sights. Even the ferry was an easy walk. Beautiful, good-sized room (and bathroom), unique, modern decor. Extremely helpful staff. The onsite spa/massage was excellent too.

No major issues. One small complaint is that our shower area was quite open (no door) and the drainage was slow so it was challenging not to have the water overflow. (I am not sure if all the rooms have the same setup or not.)

The location was fabulous. The hotel is clean, light and a great places to stay. The staff were so accommodating and welcoming. The free 15 minute massage is a lovely touch. From start to finish our stay was fantastic and I couldn’t recommend this hotel more. The breakfast was delicious and made to order. There was an issue with the lock to our room so we were moved to an upgraded room at no additional cost. The staff even moved all of our belongings. I would recommend this hotel.

Ολα ηταν υπεροχα! Η 9χρονη κορη μου βαζει 100 αστερια στα -πραγματικα υπεροχα- μαξιλαρια του κρεβατιου! Το δωματιο ηταν καθαρο και το design ιδιαιτερως καλογουστο! Το πρωινο ηταν επισης διαφορετικο απο τα τετριμμενα - ο χωρος της τραπεζαριας εκπληκτικος! Το ατμοσφαιρικο spa το αφησαμε για την επομενη φορα καθως το προγραμμα μας δεν το επετρεψε! Τελος, η θεση του ξενοδοχειου ειναι αριστη καθως βρισκεται στο κεντρο της Ερμουπολης, διπλα στα παντα και 10’ με τα ποδια απο το λιμανι!

Αν επρεπε να βρουμε ενα αρνητικο, αυτο ειναι οτι δεν υπηρχε καποια κουρτινα ή διαχωριστικο τζαμακι στο ντουζ.

We arrived in the mid-morning from the ferry, which is a 8 minute walk at a slow pace away from the port. The location is at one edge of the old town where it was quiet. We were warmly greeted by the concierge, Maria. We asked if we could get into the room early, but as expected it was still being cleaned – and the room was spotless when we returned at the promised time, 12:30PM, still very early versus normal check-in time. She gave us some awesome cold water to drink and a map of the city and told us the best places to eat and generally added wonderful color to our arrival. When we returned Maria informed us that they had already put our bags in our perfect room that we left behind while exploring the old town. Then she came to the room bearing gifts of fresh squeezed lemonade (best we have ever had) and Turkish candies. She explained everything to us – the free cold water in the mini-bar, the AC, coffee machine, etc. We took a shower in the mid afternoon – best shower I can remember. It is a true rain-head shower. The water came out at high volume and easily controlled for temperature. They had two each bottles of (all Olive Extract) body wash, shampoo, conditioner and body lotion for me and my wife – a total of 8 in all. The towels are huge and thick. Unlike most European places we have stayed, they had real washcloths. The room is smartly and simply decorated and has a 14 foot ceiling making the room feel much bigger than it is. The room layout was intelligently designed, no cheap Mickey Mouse decorations or broken anything. Just what you need and nothing you don’t - with plenty of room to easily move around. The overall classy and peaceful ambiance just resonated with us. You can see the great pictures of the stone reception area and rooms, of course. In the end, Maria made it one of the best hotel experiences in my 50 years of traveling.

Wonderful staff, true hospitality. Great location, calm rooms, great breakfast. Extremely comfy beds. I asked where the mattress was from it was so good.

My only comment is that, as with other hotels, it would be better to have larger fixed bottles of toiletries like shampoo. Better for the environment and easier to get out! But nothing that got in the way of a great stay.

DO NOT BOOK HERE! Hopefully this review changes the mind of any tourist/couple considering to book here. Our stay at this hotel was very disappointing. The room itself was extremely small, with no closet or proper space to store luggage, even for a couple with carry-ons. On top of that, the shower was clogged with hair/gunk, and the bidet was also out of order, which made the bathroom practically unusable. Room service was never done. The breakfast was average at best—nothing memorable or worth highlighting. What made the experience even worse was that we had to check out early due to a medical emergency abroad. The receptionist explained to my spouse in Greek that she would honour a partial reimbursement once we submit it on Booking; which we did right away before taking our ferry to Athens. The hotel refused to honour this even though we had a written a verbal agreement and a confirmation on Whatsapp. The lack of empathy and flexibility was very disheartening. Booking is unable to do anything because the hotel refuses the reimbursement. I am now disputing it with AMEX a month after our stay in Syros. Overall, I cannot recommend this hotel. Between the broken amenities, cramped room, and poor service, it was a very disappointing experience. Also their sister restaurant is an overpriced taverna.

Close to everything you want to explore

The breakfast was good (see the picture) and the location was okay. Close to the port, no stairs or uphill to get to the hotel - it’s perfect for elderly people or people with mobility issues. The receptionists are friendly and proactive: they offered me to keep my luggage in the hotel after check out cause I wanted to explore the city.

The room is small on the first floor is small. There is no separate room for the bathroom meaning it is separated from the sleeping area by a divider that looks like wardrobe doors. My room windows faced the wall of the opposite house. Ermoupoli is popular for its stunning views, so when booking the room I mentioned that I would like a room with a view and a balcony, if available, but when I arrived the staff didn’t give me feedback on my request, maybe they didn’t see it. One night stay 136 eur, but there was not even a bottle of water for free in the room. Everything in the minibar, even still water, was for a charge (see the image). Nit critical, but not something you would expect from a 5-star hotel. Also, I got a massage in the hotel spa which was pricey - 50 eur for 30 min - and pretty mediocre.

The facilities, location which was ideal and the building which was a period property tastefully restored. The staff were lovely and friendly.

Nicely tucked off in the narrow streets, with easy and quick access to clothing shops, restaurants and bars. It is a 5 minute walk from the ferry terminal and provides you with a clean and friendly environment to rest your head.

Great hotel, the true definition of a boutique hotel. Less than ten rooms, great sized rooms and beautiful decor. Rooms are fitted with good sized bathrooms and the whole property has beautiful high ceilings with intricate details. Staff were lovely and welcoming, always said hello to us. Breakfast was also very good, much better than the typical Greek standard breakfast you get in hotels across the islands. Would love to stay again!

This property is stunning! Every inch is beautifully decorated and clean! It has so much character and is such a comfortable place to stay! Truly one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at! The Castro Hotel was outstanding in every possible aspect. It was magnificently restored, the amenities were superior and the staff could not do enough to make our stay more than comforting!

I’m constantly amazed and disappointed in European hotels: (1) there are no doors or privacy in the toilet area, (2) in the 21st century can’t you make the toilet flush with a piece of toilet paper (?), (3) the shower has a 1” well that easily overflows, (4) the light switches are non-sensical, random, disorganized and cannot be figured out, (5) the A/C unit blew cold air up BEHIND the drapes (had to choose between a cool room and privacy). Positives: The breakfast area was very nice and the entire staff was great and accommodating.

We stayed here for my wife's birthday. This lovely hotel was perfect for us. Great central location with the most amazing staff. Everyone from the front desk to the breakfast crew at the restaurant was so friendly, kind, and helpful. Breakfast was extensive and delicious. The room was luxurious, with a very comfortable bed, cold AC, and a spotless bathroom. Everything in town was at our doorstep, but we also rented ATVs to explore the rest of the island. When I return to Syros, I will definitely stay here again.

I thought the rooms could have done with a bit of modernisation. Not to take away from its history but I didn’t get a balance of historic nor 5*. All in all clean and comfortable, just would have been the difference between an 8 and a 10.
