Dunster Castle Hotel

Well situated with excellent breakfast and plenty of parking. But beware very narrow entrance to parking.

Very soft beds and room a bit noisy on high street opposite traffic lights.

The owners did all they could to make our stay enjoyable and nothing was too much trouble. Beds were comfortable and food was great.

The hosts were very friendly and helpful. The location was great. Everything was really clean and the decor was stylish and quirky.

Super breakfast. Central for The Castle and Pubs, Cafes etc Very quiet during night even though our bedroom Was directly overlooking road. Fresh milk and decanter of Sherry were most welcome in our en suite.

Absolutely beautiful property in an amazing location. The place was beautiful and looked so homely, which was amplified by the amazing hosts that made the place so warm and welcoming. The place was so clean and well put together. The breakfast was incredible and well thought out every morning, made with delicious local ingredients which was to die for. Beds were so comfortable and the room was just perfect for me and the person I was staying with. Everything was thought of to make the stay as amazing as possible, I don’t think any more could’ve have been done to make this any better than it already was. I couldn’t recommend them more and would love to stay again in the future.

Traffic unfortunately too noisy so didn’t sleep much, not hotels fault and a shame

Breakfast was a thoroughly enjoyable affair, with a small piano recital by John. The menu choice is excellent and will cover most if not all taste buds and allergies. We were upgraded from a small double to a more spacious twin room overlooking the main street. This was lovely with an en-suite with shower and, a window seat for the watching of the world outside. The hosts are the hosts of the year for us, pleasant , happy and always ready to provide.

Unfortunately, we found the twin beds to be way too soft for us, resulting in not the best of sleep. Also, the shower doors require some attention to provide both an easier access and exit and full closure. A plug for the sink maybe.

Uitstekend hotel in het prachtige stadje Dunster. Lisa is supervriendelijk, geen moeite is teveel om het haar gasten naar de zin te maken. Speciaal voor ons bereidde ze een continentaal ontbijt met vers fruit en yoghurt, warme croissants en een schotel met heerlijke ham, prosciuto en Brie. 'S Avonds voorzag zij een heerlijke kamille thee en op de kamer staat een likeurtje klaar. Er is ook bruiswater en verse melk in de koelkast. Beste ontbijt van onze twee weken in Engeland.

Hou er rekening mee dat de toegang tot de parking vrij smal is. Tijdens het naar buiten rijden, kwam er een kras op onze wagen. Maar dat is uiteraard enkel onze schuld.

Parking at the property was a bonus. Beautifully clean and elegant decor throughout. Very comfy bed. Hospitable hosts, made for hospitality, so pleasant. Breakfast was a feast, well executed. Looking foward to returning.

Lisa and John were absolutely wonderful hosts . The location was perfect and the breakfasts were exceptional. I took my 9 year old grandson and we spent two days exploring Dunster . We visited the castle - travelled on the steam train and loved the beach .

Owner was super-cool, relaxed and extremely helpful. They allowed us to bring our own drinks for the bar area and garden - with the owner bringing out some music to the garden (just for us). Fantastic and very varied breakfast - great attention to detail. Fantastic location - central to everything in Dunster. Even let us stay parking until 3pm on the next day.

Entrance to the parking is extremely tight (for a wide 4x4)- but that's a structural issue, no fault of the hotel.

Had a fabulous stay - The room was beautiful and little touches like a Night cap of sherry in a decanter shows thought and attention are shown. Breakfast was perfect and really friendly owners made the stay a memorable one. Thank you

The morning rush hour traffic, hotel is on the main road, our room opened out on the the street and carpark entrance which was busy and noisy first thing in the morning

A great welcome by the hosts who were terrific - so helpful. The rooms were spacious and beautifully fitted. Breakfast was of the highest quality. I would highly recommend this hotel and would have no hesitation in booking again.

They need to invest in a Barista coffee machine. Filtered coffee these days is just not acceptable.

Lisa and John the hosts were fabulous so warm and friendly. Roasts and breakfast excellent. Nothing was too much trouble charming couple.

The bed and the room were very comfortable. The option of an evening meal was useful, well priced, excellent quality and home cooked.

Great location in stunning fairytale village. Hotel is very old and quaint but rooms wonderfully well equipped with everything you’d need and more, even in a standard room. Lisa the owner cares so much about her guests’ well-being and comfort and she and John go out of their way to give you a wonderful stay. There is a large communal fridge with bottled water and flasks of fresh milk for the taking and they are more than happy for you to bring your own food in or order a takeaway as they don’t serve dinner every night. Breakfast is all freshly cooked with an amazing fruit salad (so many different berries!) and yoghurt to begin with.

Not a dislike and nothing that can be done to remedy it, but the car park is through a narrow archway. Big cars beware!

Hosts Lisa and John made you feel like family. The hotel was stunning a little gem in Dunster! Rooms were beautiful and very clean the little touches of daily sparkling water and fresh milk made it so special. Breakfast was outstanding the fruit salad was just so fresh and visually stunning.

We had a wonderful stay and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this hotel. The owners were absolutely fantastic. They were so welcoming, friendly and genuinely went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Nothing was too much trouble and their kindness really made our stay extra special. The hotel was comfortable, well looked after and in a great location. Thank you for your incredible hospitality, we hope to return again soon! Also the best breakfasts!

Friendly staff and helpful when required. Breakfast choice was good, they do not do meals except Sunday I think. It had parking which the other hotels in the town do not. Location good within the town. Beautiful town and interesting area.

Room, 9 (Dovecote) it was a shame that we had to many things wrong with this room in one visit, it is on its own away from main building. Ground floor very noisy from traffic and people chatting on Main Street outside the front window, felt like there was no privacy as people looked in the side window when walking past. Bedroom door did not fit the frame so daylight gap at bottom and sides, bathroom door did not close it had dropped, this was fixed after telling the owners. No internet connection in the room, and TV signal kept dropping out and picture went distorted for the 3 days, was told it was down to weather and the room! Bottled Water from a fridge was offered but only sparkling was available, tap water was warm even after running the tap for ages as recommended. This was our honey moon and if it wasn’t for how nice the town is and the friendly staff in places where we ate and tourist attraction it could have been a big disappointment. But over all we had a really nice time in Dunster.

This lovely little hotel was an add on visit as we wanted to visit Dunster and the castle. The hotel, village and castle were all fantastic. John and Lisa made us so welcome and we enjoyed their yummy roast dinner.

We can highly recommend this lovely old hotel, splendid position and parking. The hosts John and Lisa were welcoming, attentive, helpful and lovely, nothing was too much trouble for them. The room was clean and comfortable and the food was delicious especially the well presented Greek yogurt and fresh fruit. There was also the added bonus of being able to use a communal fridge and kitchen area for snacks and takeaways for when the restaurant and bar area is closed We drank our fizz in the bar area. All in all a lovely short break.

Das Frühstück war ausgezeichnet. auf Grund unserer kurzfristigen Buchung war nur das kleinste Zimmer frei. Das Bett war zwar etwas schmal, sonst war es trotzdem sehr angenehm.

This was a return visit, it is a family run hotel, situated in an excellent location. The owners, John & Lisa are absolutely brilliant, nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast menu is wonderful and it set us up for the day! The dining room is superb and there is a lovely feeling throughout the hotel. The garden area is wonderful - somewhere to relax! Another great stay!

Clean peaceful comfortable facilities. Hosts friendly and helpful but not obtrusive,. Lovely breakfast. 11 am checkout later than most places and welcomed.

Cherry on the top would have been a bath and a view but both would have been available in a more expensive room, so no complaint.

Lisa and John are not just the most welcoming hosts they have created a beautiful place to stay. The room was immaculate and the hotel overall was to a very high standard. The Honeymoon Suite was a delight. Luxurious and decadent.

Loved our stay, good facilities. They were very accommodating my dietary requirements, and my son who is a fussy eater. Good idea to pre book breakfast evening before. Found it a bit odd if u didnt have a couple items off the full breakfast, they didnt double up on the stuff u did have eg. I dont like tomatoes, they could have given me more beans, only one sausage two would be better, however it was really nice. Beds comfy but a bit too soft for me.

Sorry but I didn't like the coffee too mild for me, but I always travel with some so not an issue.

In a perfect location, this small and friendly hotel is faultless in terms of hospitality. Everything is fresh and comfortable. Impressed that breakfast is ordered the previous evening, at an agreed time, as this means that the food is entirely freshly prepared - and it very much shows in the quality and presentation of the very generous spread you receive. The attention to detail by the owners is apparent throughout this exceptionally well cared for and interesting place. The shared sitting areas are very attractive and the owners kindly permit guests to bring their own drinks in addition to providing a good selection.

John and Lisa made us feel very welcome. Our room was clean and very comfortable. There was a very good choice of breakfast and presented well. And having it's own parking facilities was an extra bonus.

The only downside to the location was being right next to road and the traffic lights. It was very noisy at night, with some large vehicles and motorbikes. This is cannot be helped though and there were ear plugs provided

From arrival until our departure the whole experience of being at this lovely place was amazing. John and Lisa go that extra mile to make your stay special. The rooms are spotlessly clean and well appointed. There's a friendly peaceful atmosphere and the breakfast is super fresh and beautifully presented. In short it's one of the most pleasant places we have stayed and will definitely be returning. The parking is a bonus. I can't recommend this place Good value for money. What a wonderful find. This hotel far exceeded our expectations with little extras like the carafe of sherry in bedroom! Also wonderful breakfast with 'proper" food, no prepackaged stuff and all served to order. Very comfy bed ,all beautifully presented. We will definitely be recommending this gem of a hotel, and we will be back. Thank you.

We have stayed at this place before and there's nothing they will not do for you and just like before the breakfast was extant just like when we stayed there the last time the room was clean and tidy just like the last time and just like 👍 say thank you it was a pleasure to go back 😊 and look forward to seeing 👀 😊 them again

You have to be very careful when you try to go and get to there car park because you have to drive through a very small space that was built for a hores and cart only

One of the best breakfasts I’ve had in over 50 years of eating and sleeping in bed and breakfast establishments at least once or twice a week all over the UK.

What a gem of a hotel. Great location in the village. Room was absolutely spectacular. The only thing that could top it was the attentiveness of the owners, John and Lisa. Have traveled a lot recently and I have rarely come across a more professional and caring management team. Johnand Lisa are spectacular hosts. Can't give this hotel enough plaudits. Just a tremendous stay.

We got upgraded to a beautiful room and we were very happy with our stay. The roast dinner was delicious and Lisa and John were perfect hosts.

We were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Very well run hotel, lovely owners and the facilities were exceptional, very comfortable and well thought out. The breakfast was excellent, food served to a high standard and the service was excellent too.

Everything was lovely. the room was exceptionally comfortable, nothing was too much trouble even catering for specialist diets. We would not hesitate to stay here again int he future and look forward to it.

The breakfast was excellent with a good choice and well cooked. The hotel is in a prime location in the middle of the village with parking, which is a huge bonus in Dunster. The staff are friendly and helpful.

The couple who ran it were so very friendly, and the breakfast was amazing (especially the fruit salad!) Our room was lovely with nice, little touches.

Just be aware the restaurant is only open Sunday and Monday nights, but you can take your own food in. There is a bottle bar just for residents.

We spent two days here , and can’t praise it enough , it has the perfect location right at the centre of the Main Street, , friendly, charming and professional owners and staff with beautiful rooms with very beautifully furnished communal areas , with excellent value , don t hesitate to book , you won’t regret it !

Very nice breakfast, comfortable beds in a nicely appointed room. Several thoughtful extras enhanced our stay.

Vehicle access to the carpark is quite tight for larger cars but there are alternate parking options nearby.

What an absolute treat! We were very stuck locally, and at 7pm the owners did all they could to accommodate us and what a treat it was! Beautiful bedrooms, the finest quality of everything. Breakfast amazing and all those luxury treats such as fresh milk, assorted tea bags of every type etc. They managed to get us a booking at a fabulous local brasserie for dinner even though we were late check ins and it was late. Could write so much more lovely things - the very finest of hospitality in all ways- my 9 year old son summarised the room beautifully ‘I feel like a king’. Thank you so much ♥️

A beautiful hotel. We loved our room. Everyone was really concerned that our stay should be enjoyable. We ewre recommended where to eat in the evening which was excellent. Our breakfast was very good.
