Spent a week at Morena Resort in a three bedroom 2 bath villa. The resort is very clean and quiet. The villas are simple but quite comfortable. Each had a small kitchenette with refrigerator, stove and all items needed for a meal. Each villa also had a large and spacious deck with table and chairs, sofas and a hammock. A great place to hang out. Air conditioning is only in the bedrooms and not in the main living space but a fan is provided. There are two pools at the resort and two restaurants. Both were clean, had very decent food and good service. However the pool bar closed early many afternoons when we were there which was a bit disappointing. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Morena is a 7 minute walk or a 2 minute drive from Jan Thiel beach and upon checkin you are given a pass to enter the beach parking lot for no charge. Many reviews speak of the need to walk uphill to come back to the resort from the beach. This is true but it is a gentle hill and it is very manageable. Morena also provides beach towels which can be exchanged each day for clean/dry ones. At Jan Thiel beach there is a small grocery store, many great restaurants and plenty of places to enjoy the beach and ocean. Morena Resort is not a luxury resort but our family really enjoyed the location, friendly staff, cleanliness and safety and tranquility. We would definitely recommend and would definitely stay here again on our next trip to Curacao.

The pools Nice room terrace Good location near beach and supermarket The girls at the counter are great
No mosqito net Coordination between booking and the hotel regarding check in time We had to wait 4 hours for our room Booking said check in at 1.00 pm The room was given at 5.00 pm The whole "eco" thing is not true, i think they use it to save water and to have your room cleaned every 3 days to pay less to their employees.
We were pleasantly surprised at first: the resort looks beautiful, with the wooden walkways, lots of nature, and lovely swimming pools. However, when we were allowed into our room, we were quite disappointed. The bedroom has no connection to the outdoors at all. The room smelled damp and musty, and I was bitten by mosquitoes within no time. You could rent a mosquito net for an extra €5 per night (it was very small and had holes in it). We tried several times to get another room, but unfortunately this was not possible. Breakfast was a disaster: the buffet is set up in a small room where too many people are crowded together trying to serve themselves, and you had to wait a long time for a cup of coffee (there was only one very slow machine, and the coffee didn’t even taste good). Often there was only one staff member on duty who was (understandably) not happy with all the crowds and questions from guests. You can access the beach using a beach pass. The sunbeds are packed tightly together in rows, often without any shade. At some point we disliked going back to the resort so much that we checked out three days early to rent a room somewhere else on the island. Definitely not recommended from our point of view!
I loved this 10-day stay at Moreno ecoResort. It's lovely and quiet, friendly and helpful staff, beautifully landscaped. Four great pools, walking paths and a nice mixture of apartments and villas. The meal plan was reasonably priced and the food was excellent, with plenty of options. If you want a relaxed authentic place to stay in Curaçao, Morena is it.

The common are in the unit is not air conditioned couldn’t find any silverware in the kitchen gave up on planning to fix meals. Would have been better is there was over head fans the fan they did help didn't help staff was wonderful and the rooms did have air and were cool
To be honest I was slightly nervous about booking with Morena after having read some of the criticisms I saw here on TripAdvisor. But like online reviews go, one should take everything with a grain of salt. I am back home now reminiscing about my daily morning walks through Morena's beautiful garden paths and pining away at the pleasure moments I had there. This resort is impeccably clean; is surrounded by lush gardens, fragrant flowers, and beautiful birds chirping and whom welcome you to this natural haven. The hotel is eco-friendly and this is a know-before you go experience. No A/C in the kitchen and living room is something you need to be aware of. So it is a camp-style experience as far as that is concerned, and know that this is what you are signing up for. Improvements could be done in terms of mosquito netting for the dining rooms and providing more towels in their bathrooms. The staff were some of the friendliest I have met at any hotel I have been to, and their Fuego restaurant had the best food on the island we experienced. Truly delicious to try even if you went just for that! I truly love this resort and would be very happy to come back to this place any time! Thank you Morena for a great Curacao experience, you did not disappoint!
We enjoyed our stay at the Morena Resort. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and fairly spacious. The restaurants had good food and most of the waiters were very friendly. It was great having a choice of three swimming pools. They use salt water instead of chemicals, which makes the swim more pleasant. There are plenty of trees and the birds are plentiful, including some green parrots. The only negatives were that besides the nearby beach that has around 7 restaurants and a few shops, the location is far away from any other activities, requiring taxi rides to anywhere else you want to go, although this did keep the beach from being overcrowded. Additionally, they only have soap in the shower room, not any in the bathroom (bathroom is separate from the showers), so you have to buy your own soap at the nearby grocery store. The beds were a bit odd. Each bedroom had two slim mattresses put together to make an almost queen-sized bed, but each night the mattresses spread apart, and I always ended up between them directly on the support part -- which wasn't too uncomfortable, just annoying.
Prachtige accomodatie (villa azul) de veranda is fantastisch! Twee badkamers en 3 slaapkamers voor 4 personen, heerlijk!
mooi aangelegd en beplant
Beautiful resort with very nice swimming pools. So many birds flying around. Diner at the Fuego restaurant was very good. Beds felt firm. Pain in our hips every night. Shower head was very dirty. Noisy sound from the road nearby when you're in your own appartment. There are no windows in the living room but shutters.. so the airconditioning is only in the bedrooms. In every appartment is a different amount of kitchen ware.
Mooi en verzorgd resort. Gewoon een belevenis echt een aanrader
True eco resort with beautiful flowering trees and singing exotic birds.
Hele fijne en rustige accommodatie.
The resort itself is very beautiful and the location is great, but it is an eco resort. So there is no blow dryer, no handsoap in the bathroom or kitchen, no hair conditioner, and ac only in the bedroom. The property is beautiful but come prepared.
nice location, good housing, three simmingpools and on walkingdistance from shops and more important: the sea and the beach; driving a car is quite usefull; eating is fine and the bar and specially the personal are great
Beautifully landscaped and designed eco-resort with chic rustic style; it seemed to have more authenticity/character/style than many other resorts we saw in the area. The main reception/restaurant area and the pools are gorgeous! It’s about a six minute walk downhill to the Jan Thiel Beach area, which is very nice and has a lively party scene on weekends, but keep in mind that Jan Thiel is a highly developed beach that can be a bit loud/crowded at times, so depending on your interests that could be a positive or a negative (it’s not a postcard-perfect natural beach setting like you see on other parts of the island). We really appreciated the hotel’s emphasis on sustainability, and we thought the food at the restaurant was fabulous. It also seemed like a great choice for families, with a kids menu and one of the pools designated as a family pool. Overall, a very comfortable stay and a great choice if you are looking for a unique, stylish, and eco-conscious hotel on the east side of the island.
No soap in the bathroom, but that was not a big deal. Jan Thiel was not our favorite beach, but it might be perfect for people who want an easy beach experience with plentiful amenities!
Clean, nature, different pool, quiet and very relaxing.
Only downside was the frogs and cockroaches in the toilets/shower. Every night.
Die Anlage ist sehr gepflegt. Nettes Personal. Alles perfekt.
We komen graag snel weer terug!
This is not a resort, it is more like a glamping. Upon arrival we requested some measures against musquitos since there is currently a dengue outbreak on Curacao and we are travelling with 2 little kids. They basically told us “it’s part of the island”. Fine, but you could at least provide us with mosquito nets and bug spray. Mosquito nets were indeed provided, which we had to hang ourselves and were firstly told “to bring our own”, one day before our arrival when I requested them. Anyway, they did provide the nets, but it had several holes in them. The “villa” which is more like a bungalow, is OPEN. You can not shut windows/doors completely which ofcourse welcomes mosquitos and other bugs. We were welcomed by our bedrooms full of mosquitos and cockroaches upon arrival. With a baby crawling around, this was horrible. We were told cleaning was every 3 days. I asked them to at least come everyday to vacuum/mop since we have a baby and with the bugs. 1. They don’t use a vacuum since they’re “eco”. 2. We were told no because they are eco. The outdoor patio is wood and had splinters, again, not safe with 2 small kids. In the “livingroom” you have outdoor furniture which was hard and uncomfortable. We didn’t even want to hang there with lights on bc of the open system and bugs. The shower runs on a push button which only runs for about 20-30secs a time, which is really annoying when you take a shower, let alone your kid takes a shower. Upon arrival being greeted by mosquitos and cockroaches, we decided this was not the “resort” for us and told them so. We left after a few days to stay at another resort for the remaining of our holiday, that’s when our vacation really started. We ask for a financial “meet in the middle” but got completely declined. Not even a sorry or a small compensation what so ever. Eventhough I think we were great guests considering we fully paid for 3 weeks and only stayed 6 days, rented our car via the resort incl extra insurance and booked our airport transfer via the resort, they did nothing to make us feel “good”. I will say, front desk staff, even though not helpful in compensating, were quite nice. Restaurant staff not so much. Food was tasteful, except for breakfast, which was minimal.
Front desk staff was helpful with checkin and sharing local tips. Property was clean. Apartment was perfect for sleeping after a day at the beach or sightseeing. Just a five minute walk to the beach.
Rustic, spacious, private. Beautiful nature setting with lots of tropical birds.
Nothing
Clean, seemed relatively new. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room layout was good, and the outdoor space was large.
The whole “eco” thing seems performative or a way to cheap out on certain things. Having to press the button on the shower every 30 seconds to keep it on was annoying.
Lovely resort near the beach. Staff are helpful although there were some issues with the beach towels (they were either out or hadn’t arrived yet).
Fuego restaurant
Our room, the distance to the front desk, spiders, mosquitoes, cleaning each 3 days, light inside the room (like a jale), pillows don’t allow to sleep or take a rest, towels really old and small, tv size, old furniture, beds separated for a couple….unbelievable !!!
A lot of mosquito into the roll , even a spider into my bed . The pillow was awful, it’s not a resort for a couple , they don’t have married bed !!!!!!!! The tower was child size !!!! Only 2 beds with different cover . Not a romantic place , it couldn’t be worse experience
Lovely stay. Simple but adequate villa, a bit dark on porch and inside. Pool areas are lovely and even at height of season the resort was quiet and peaceful.
We stayed at the Morena Eco Resort in December 2023 for what was supposed to be a relaxing week. Well it wasn’t relaxing and we couldn’t make it a full week at this place. When we were three days in, I went to the front desk and told them how unhappy we were with the accommodations and asked them to book us a taxi to another resort right after Christmas. I know the hotel will write some sort of “response” to this review, but quite honestly, when we were there they did NOTHING to rectify the situation and they actually made it worse after they knew we were leaving early. Firstly, let me say that we are Americans. I researched the resort and the island before we went but was not prepared to be the only Americans at the resort and they make you feel very excluded while you are there. We didn’t understand the language and none of the signs or menus are in English. They also do not have regular American electrical outlets at this resort. When we asked for help getting a converter for our devices, they gave us an old one that they acknowledged was likely broken, but that was all we had. It shorted out my phone and one of our tablets so now we have that expense when we get home. By comparison, everywhere else we went on the island had english menus. Hotel staff was barely courteous, but hot helpful or welcoming. They also seemed to have a different answer every time we asked for help, or not know what was going on themselves. Here is a breakdown of the good and the bad at this “resort”. We stayed at the Aura Apartments: 1. The bathrooms: Water is heated by solar panels. We had no warm water in the evenings for showering. The shower faucet is operated by a push button nob that only stays on for 25 seconds at a time. They only give you 4 hand towels for an entire family of 4. They do not provide a single bar of soap in the unit, not even for hand washing. When I complained about the lack of hot water, they made it clear that it was my fault for not telling them sooner about the issue. Fine, that’s on me. They eventually fixed it after a guy being at our unit ALL day, but when we finally did have hot water, we had no towels. On the taxi ride to the other hotel, the other guests confirmed they also had no hot water, but the hotel was so bad, they just thought it was normal. Maybe it wasn’t entirely my fault after all… 2. If you request extra towels or pillows, they tell you they will get it to you eventually. That usually means a 12-24 hour wait and then when the items are ready, they text you through WhatsApp and you have to walk yourself to the front desk to get them. (Even though the staff have golf carts). 3. The bedrooms look like tiny prison cells and each has 2 tiny cots with rock hard pillows. The rest of the unit has rock hard patio furniture that is dirty. 4. The “TV” was a 15 inch computer monitor mounted to the wall that barely worked and the picture was green. 5. Although they advertise “free” beach access, that’s not entirely true. You have to pay to sit on the beach - $5 per chair no matter how long or how little you sit there. There is no place to even lay out your own towel if you want to avoid that extra expense. 6. They tell you it’s a 5 minute slow walk to the beach. It’s not. I measured our walk on Google Earth and it was 0.54 miles to the beach. For most people, that’s at least a 10 minute walk and slower if you have children. The walk back is all uphill and it’s a dirty, busy road, covered in trash with potholes in the sidewalk. The map of the resort and surrounding areas was not readable (see photo). 7. The unit we stayed in was clean upon arrival. They were supposed to come and clean every three days. They never came once. Upon our early checkout, I mentioned this to them and they said –“We come every three days”. My response was – we were here 5 days and you never cleaned. I got a blank stare in response like I was delusional. 8. There is no A/C except for small window units in the bedrooms. There are signs that tell you you must keep the bedrooms at 76F which is pretty darn hot. The bathrooms, kitchen, living areas are basically outside. The windows have no screens so bugs are everywhere. Even with constant use of bug spray, both of my kids were eaten alive. My daughter had approx. 50 bites when we left. 9. The pool and pool furniture were dirty. My son wouldn’t even get in the pool because he said it looked gross. 10. For an “Eco Resort” – it felt like we lived in a tiny city. You could hear golf carts buzzing by your door every 10 seconds and loud truck sounds all day. The golf carts would run over the lizards and there were dead lizards on the walking paths with their guts spilled out. This was hard to see over and over again when they are supposed to care about the environment. My kids would get upset every time we saw one. 11. You basically have to live outside. This sounds okay at first. But everyone else has to as well and your neighbors are above or below you and right next door. There is no privacy. You can hear your neighbors showering and in the bathroom. Financially we were not in a position to forfeit the remainder of our money and spend an additional $1500 to go somewhere else for the remainder of our vacation. But this place was ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. They didn’t even offer to cover the taxi to get us to the other resort, which was only $40. We ended up going to the Renaissance Wind Creek which was great. I’ll write a separate review for there. By comparison, we had one meal there and we had to wait 45 minutes for our food. We didn’t complain but they still comped us ½ of the meal. The best part was that the front desk person made us feel SO WELCOME when we arrived with a smile and to let us know if she could help in any way. Words we never heard at the Morena. I don’t know what the business model is at the Morena Eco Resort, but making guests feel welcome or admitting their mistakes are not part of it. Thank you Morena for almost ruining our vacation, but completely ruining our budget. I hope you were able to rerent our room that we already paid for to someone else and get an even bigger profit.
Alles fussläufig erreichbar, unkomplizierte Kommunikation, gepflegte Anlage.
We were in the smallest room type for two at the back of the property. While it had the amenities as described, the room is very small even for two. The living room wall is louvered, so no A/C and easy for bugs to enter. We bought a citronella candle to help with this, but that was like blowing into the wind. The A/C is only in the bedroom, which is windowless. The beds are not comfortable as they easily split apart and the single mattresses slips easily off the frame. The bathroom sink was plugged and needed attention and the towels were very small. The pools were nice however work began on one with only a days notice. This forced all guests to the family pool if they didn’t want to listen to jackhammering. The staff are polite but I wouldn’t recommend this property as I clearly didn’t anticipate that eco resort would feel more like econo resort.
Everything was great. Staff was very helpful, accommodation is very comfortable. The area is very nice. Although the resort was fully booked, it was still quiet and peaceful
-
Staff was super helpful! On check-out day we were offered a "shower" room which could be used in the afternoon to get ready to go to the airport.
5 star for the staff.
We komen zeker terug
This was our dream vacation. Curaçao is a Caribbean island paradise with white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and plenty of corals, tropical fish and sea turtles. Morena is located in the southern part of Curaçao near Jan Thiel Bay. It's premise is that of an eco resort, minimizing waste, built on simple architecture, simple materials and solid construction, luxurious without being excessive, all in all tasteful. the good: -we rented a 3-bedroom individual cabin, with comfortable beds in the sleeping rooms, a complete kitchen, and a spacious terrace for our meals -resort organization was top notch with friendly, attentive and diligent staff who attended to our (many) requests, great check-in/out experience -breakfast and restaurant had all essentials with great food preparation and quality, even accomodating to our dietary restrictions -gorgeous pool areas and the pool water is kept crystal and clean -rent a car at competitive rates and drive all around Curaçao (a must to visit the great beaches!) the bad: -Mosquito issue (which may be seasonal). We arrived at night and because the cabin lights were on, there were a ton of mosquitos inside. Thus mosquito bed nets and repellent are a must. You learn to always close the bedroom doors -Cabin design is such that the living room cannot be used at night because there isn't a simple mesh to block insects from following the light inside at night the ugly: -really nothing to complain about, this a resort that we do recommend!
The resort is good. The houses are clean and so are the utensils. The bathroom is not big, a little bit old, but not dirty. It has an eco friendly shower which I did not like. You have to press the button after 10 sec or so. Showering with an infant makes it very annoying. The toilet had a smell, but they fixed it. The wifi is weak. There was no wifi in the bedroom. The mattresses are not tied together so it dislocates. Food from the restaurant is terrible. The doors are from glass so you don't have any privacy and the balconies are side by side so you can hear your neighbors. Other than that, we liked the resort. Very friendly staff. They allowed us to check in early, because we landed early and were traveling with a baby. The hostess let us stay in the cottage while waiting for the house to be ready. They have free yoga classes. They offered to make us a reservation at a restaurant. They have a big parking lot. The swimming pool has an area for kids. The beach is on walking distance and also a supermarket. This resort will see me again.
Very friendly staff at front desk. Very pleasant and happy. Always there to help. The pool and grounds were very well maintained. The rooms were great, and the in-room kitchen was too. Very easy walk to beach.
All good
comfortable appartments, nice swimming pools and an excellent restaurant on site
the appartments were quite close to each other which caused some noise
Apartment was not ‘surprisingly cool’ as stated on website. No air conditioning in living area/kitchen making that area quite warm and uncomfortable particularly when doors are closed at night, of which only half is doors, the rest is shutters allowing bugs and humidity in. Toilet room had a slight sewage odour to it, with an inefficient fan, and hence no air circulation. I don’t mind housekeeping every 3 days, but how about some decent size shower towels. And no soap provided in the toilet room to wash hands? Seems like another opportunity to be eco-friendly. No mention on website of accessibility issues, like steps within the restaurant. Stayed one night and left without any refunds.
Our family loved the pools and grounds. However our villa had ants in the bathrooms. Spiders. Lizards in the kitchen living under the microwave. And many mosquitos which we did prepare for. We loved our terrace and comfy beds overall a great stay but be prepared to share your spaces
Excellent staff, always happy to help. Nice vegetation kept the walkways cool. Nice pool area, never felt too crowded. short walk to the beach and supermarket, you can also rent a car at the resort to really get the most out of the island
We had lots of mosquitoes. Strong repellent was needed specially if you wanted to enjoy the terrace.
Service is top, vriendelijk personeel.
I stay here every single year. it is such a beautiful resort surrounded by nature.
I liked everything about this hotel
Location was great. Very peacefull.
The front door of our room unit is of glass. No privacy
I really wanted to like this place, and it could be so good if they would change a few things. I will say, the front desk girls were so wonderful and nice. I will also say we read so many reviews of different places to stay, and it just doesn’t seem like anywhere in Curaçao is super nice and clean. First, the air conditioning. It was fine that the air conditioner is only in the bedroom, but the kitchen is NOT closed off, which makes absolutely no sense. The wall with the window shades is open to the outside. So, instead of having it closed off and not allowing the humidity and bugs to come in, it is open to the outside. You have to keep the bedroom door shut at all times unless you want the humidity and bugs coming in. The mosquitos will get you either way, but didn’t appreciate getting bit in a kitchen that should have been closed off. We also had tiny tiny bugs ALL OVER the kitchen counter. We made the mistake of putting groceries on the counter and the bugs got inside all of it, so we had to throw away everything. The “king bed” is absolutely not a king bed. It’s two twins pushed together, and you don’t even have a topper that connects them. So phones will fall into the crack and you’ll have separate bedding for each twin bed. There is no hand soap provided for the bathrooms, also odd? Your towels provided for showering are more like two hand towels sewn together. And the shower, you have a button, and water runs for 20 seconds at a time. Not great
What I loved most was the service and the friendly staff/ my flight was really delayed ( 22 hours) and when I arrived there was a wonderful handwritten card in our room from the staff. Also , they let us check out at 3 pm when we left because of it. So grateful. The property is beautiful and conveniently located. I was also able to rent a car right at the hotel, Pools are beautiful, food fabulous, beach a short walk away. Yet I don’t think I’ll stay here again mostly because our apartment even though it was comfortable was very dark and the bedroom had no ventilation. A weird design flaw , especially on Curacao where you can build with the wind in mind. The reason I can’t come back though was that on the porch all my neighbors smoked and there was no way to escape their smoking or talking... why you allow smoking in an Eco resort is beyond me. So if you don’t mind people smoking and you don’t mind a dark but beautiful apartment, ( the ground floor for sure) this is a good choice.
Resort lookes nice, the pool’s are great! We did not try the restaurants but we heard they were fine. We stayed at an (2br) appartement, which was super dark, moist and equipped with not even the bare minimum (only four knives for four persons). The appartements are really close to each other, we were in the smoke of our neighbors the whole week. Ally next to our appartement smelled like urine, which was bothering us even on our terrace, nothing was done after reporting it. Every 3 days you get cleaning but the towel are dirty and they don’t refill anything. Staff races around in golf carts in front of your house the whole day. Front office isn’t helpful with the complaints. Car park is full if you arrive late. Our advice is to look elsewhere (the 3 resorts closer to the beach)
Onwijs genoten en super mooi resort.
The facilities are quite nice it is surrounded by nature so get ready to have a lot of birds visiting your terrace. If you are looking for partying this is not a place to stay it is full of family and it quite close to the ocean and you get free passes to access the ocean. I stayed in one of the bungalows and it has a large terrace space outside. The downside is that my room had a terrible smell but besides that it was a pleasant stay.
Personeel is vriendelijk.
The resort was amazing. Wonderful location and excellent staff.
I have stayed here numerous times. It is truly an oasis in the sense that it is peaceful and that you are surrounded by nature. The sound and sight of beautiful birds were exceptional. The villas are well surrounded by lush tropical plants, so they feel very private. I love this place❤️
Heerlijk tropisch eiland gevoel. Prachtige zwembaden.
Nette en comfortabele huizen. Hoogwaaardige kwaliteit. Fijne bedden! 3 zwembaden. Geschikt voor kinderen en teeners. Wel stukje lopen naar zee.
The staff was excellent
Alles was geweldig. Schoon rustig, vriendelijk ontvangst. Mooie huisjes in een prachtige tuin. Heerlijke bedden. Goede nette solide keuken koelkast magnetron. Stenen aanrechtblad TV. Lekker terras. Goede stille airco. Heerlijk gegeten. Alles in goede sfeer.
