Location really good staff and very friendly atmosphere
Leaving the property!
This was the most disgusting property I have ever stayed at, the room itself was acceptable for the price, however the general condition of the property was extremely worn out a tired, from arrival, the front door was blocked by people smoking on the steps up to the entrance and we struggled to get passed, breathing in their smoke. The carpets were all worn out and covered by tank tape to hold the threads together, everything seemed dirty, sticky table tops in the breakfast room, the bottom of the fire escape door was rotted out. When we appeared for breakfast the first morning, we were met by someone wearing what looked to be a grease / sweat stained "T" shirt and pajama bottoms, this did not inspire a food hygiene standard one would expect, breakfast items were not very inspiring especially with bread in their original packet, with people putting their hands in to get bread out with no tongs available, cutlery was placed handle down in a receptacle so everybody had to handle the food end not the handle end. Although we had prepaid for breakfast, we did not risk eating in the place. When I started to give constructive feed back at check out I was all but physically thrown out of the property, by I assume was the manager / proprietor, Absolutely disgusting place hopefully food safety standards visit soon!.
The breakfast is very good, the room was clean if a little small. The hotel has a lot of character as it is a very old and lovely building
All the staff were brilliant. They couldn't do enough for you. We're very pleased
It's an older building, which is what it is, but not money by the owners could be spend on the odd upgrade
Great location for attending the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb event and a shame we didn't have more time to explore the town. Ben greeted us on arrival and could not have been more friendly and helpful, even carrying our bag to our room. The room was a good size for the age of the building and the Ensuite FAR BETTER than the one we had in Aylesbury Travelodge the previous night. There was a welcome tray of biscuits and tea and coffee and a good sized TV (again, far more "user-friendly" than the one the previous night). We ate in the restaurant that evening and had the standard Cheeseburgers, coleslaw, salad and chips. The burgers were handmade and the whole meal absolutely delicious. It was good to see a pub well supported by its local community who chatted to us and made us feel very welcome. Despite being on the High Street and every room taken, it was very quiet and we both had a great nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was "Help yourself to cereals, fruit juice and toast" with a vast selection of hot food cooked to order. Tea and coffee were served separately and the lady serving us was very friendly and helpful. Everything was delicious.
US - we Should have booked a second night.
The area of was covered in perspex showing original wattle wall was interesting. The shower, sink and toilet seemed clean.
Parking . The small area af the front was full, the parking at the rear was a council car park and didnt seem secure. The carpet between the bar and eating area was covered in tape. The stairway to the bedrooms, the carpet was filthy, lots of clutter at the bottom of the stairs. The bedroom was disappointing, a musty, dusty smell. Area of ceiling was stained, not sure if damp or had been a leak. The sash windows, one had broken sash cords, the other had a gap at the bottom of the window. In the bathroom the hand towel had brown stains. We didnt stay and asked for a refund.
Personeel was vriendelijk en behulpzaam
Beetje donker in de eetzaal en stoelen beetje vlekkerig.
Location Very Friendly staff
The room was a bit noise, as it was on the main road
Very pleasant staff. The breakfast was great.
Great staff . Craig goes out of his way to make you feel welcome
Nothing
Nice to stay in a hotel with some character.
Nothing.
Excellent breakfast
Only do food wendsday to Saturday apart from breakfast
Comfortable hotel, excellent staff and friendly owner. Homemade food lovely.
Good location and friendly staff.
Only problem with our room was that it was a warm night and the room was quite stuffy because the window could not be opened. Other than that everything was fine .
Great staff great food
Bed a bit too hard for me
Location, staff friendly
Room 4 was very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely. Staff were very welcoming. Great location. Will visit again. Free parking at rear.
No complaints at all.
Hotel is in an ideal location for the town amenities
Nothing all was good
Staff very friendly and helpful hotel a little tired. But value for money, yes.
Difficult to say, being good value for money, maybe the bar a little limited.
Breakfasts were good, Room was adequate for short stay. Good warm powerful shower and very comfortable bed.
Noisy evenings, its above a pub. However, its what we expected so not a complaint.
Staff outstanding. Food very good Location excellent
Very comfy.... food was good ..breakfast exceptional and Ben the barman is great can't do enough for you
Nothing
Everything !!
We only stayed 1 night, we should have stayed longer.
We have stayed here before and I’m going to use that stay in this review as I was taken I’ll just after we arrived. Unfortunately my wife had to drive me home so this stay didn’t happen. The last time we stayed it was lovely. The room was ideal and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was also very good.
Nothing to dislike
everything it was fab and we definitely stay againe we hope u liked the chocolate s we left for u. all thank u Pearl and Stephen Cox xxx
It was practical and useful
Too many stairs to the room
Breakfast was very good. Room was very clean.
Nothing
Local to Burwarton show ground .
No head board , damp in room , walls all peeling . Carpet grotty . Just needs a bit of TLC and maintenance. Very loud at night even on a Wednesday night . Think our room was above the bar . Bottle bin man collecting bins very early morning which is loud enough to wake the whole hotel .
Staff good, room small, noise at night
Very small room
Very quirky and old fashioned
Needs some TLC
We were to have breakfast that morning and no one in the hotel to give breakfast
Breakfast was good it was noisy at times people using fire ecape our room was right by it bathroom floor wasent good floor needs levelling where lining was wavy the room needs a bit of attention it's needs a bit of a update but staff was freindly
kostenloses Parken und sehr leckeres warmes Frühstück
Very accommodating landlord. Great location.
Good Location, Clean and tidy room, good breakfast
Nicely decorated room , with large, modern ensuite. Great breakfast and we very much appreciated the hotel getting in some special items so that my wife's allergies were catered for, thank you.
all good
Rooms were very clean . Breakfast was very good . Ben the barman was fab and very polite .
Nothing
Excellent location along a lovely High St. Just where the bus stops, close to St Mary's Church. Handbook handy and informative. WiFi - actually works! Updated shower was tastefully done, seamlessly merging the old and the new. Comfortable. Wonderful staff. Thank you very much.
Location, clean and a friendly welcome, nothing to much trouble
Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent to have a free car park nearby ( though it was busy so spaces are at a premium )
Everything worked for us - no issues at all.
All the staff were very friendly and very helpful. Especially the owner, who when out of his way to help us.
Beautiful building with so much potential in a gorgeous small town in a lovely area
Uncomfortable vibe and chap running it clearly stressed, trying to do too much but not particularly successful at it. Checking in at the bar I accidentally laid my arm on a completely saturated bar mat which was very unpleasant, despite being early evening. Friendly local folk. Lots of laminated signs everywhere referring to 'no pay, no stay' and 'no cash refunds, including the pool table' but the most disconcerting sign was on the back of my bedroom door stating that 'drug dealing and taking will not be tolerated' along with images of drug paraphernalia. My room was above the kitchen with a very invasive stench of old fat and early evening there was a shouted altercation where someone had to be ejected from the kitchen. Out of hours access was from the smelly kitchen side up some unappealing fire escape stairs. On arrival I had to ask for some towels as none were in my room. The young chap on the bar bustled around and found me one clean but grey discoloured towel and said he'd ask Craig for some more. Craig then asked me what I needed, I said a bath towel and a hand towel. Returned to my room to find two hand towels only on my door handle. The shower room had obviously been renovated in recent years and all the sanitary ware was clean apart from a bit of mould but the floor and walls around were filthy. My wooden window frame was rotten so I was rather nervous shutting it. All carpets in building needed a good clean and had absorbed years of old fat odour. Access to guest rooms from the public area was past an overflowing storage/dumping area for staff coats and cleaning materials/vacuums/mops. Breakfast the next morning was a bit confusing as I was asked what I would like but there was no list/menu available so Craig rattled off a few things so I basically had to take a guess and say what I DIDN'T want and see what turned up.
Excellent breakfast and food.
Cleanliness and general decor
great location, historic clean room with modern ensuite, friendly staff good breakfast selection with full english available and quiet night even though it is also a pub
nothing
The breakfast was very good, it's in a great position on the main road
The breakfast was very good, but we had to wait 10 minutes before anyone turned up and wasn't sure what to do. We were given a large coffee pot and we were sharing it with other tables
Very polite young man on the bar when we arrived. Friendly is important and it was
Not major but the escape steps to get in if late. Cleaner from webs lol.
Lovely old hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable and very clean room/bed.
The room was comfortable and clean
“Stuff” left in corridors
Considering the price we knew it would be basic but it did the job and no complaints at all.
The staff in particular Ben were very friendly and helpful arranging food even though it was past their cut off which was delicious The room was perfect with everything you could need The breakfast choice was great and once again the lady serving was friendly Also great free car parking
We didn't stay. The room was not ready and there were painters cloths, brushes and paint on the floor as we entered. The room was in the process of being painted and the smell of paint was very strong. We were not charged and the owner apologised but we still had to find somewhere else to stay.
Met expectations, good breakfast.
No evening food on a Monday
Free parking and the staff were very friendly & helpful. Good shower & fast WiFi.
On the hottest day of the year, only a fan in the room & had to leave the windows open despite noise from the bar, people outside until late & noisy road. Breakfast was average & very limited. Floodlight outside directly into bedroom. The bed was too soft & springy- ok for one person maybe but not two. Difficult to watch TV from its position to the left of the bed.
Location gd,breakfast gr8,only reason took a point off is decor a bit dated
Decor
ontbijt
Het had weliswaar de de charme van een oeroud gebouw, maar het heeft dus ook wel de nadelen van scheve vlieren etc
Location good for what we needed. Staff greeting was exceptionally friendly.
Very noisey room until 11pm and again at 5am. This was due to traffic. Staff served breakfast in his pajamas and clearly not wearing underpants. Breakfast was ok but a bit basic.
Not a lot
The staff weren’t friendly. The conditions of our room were poor. Service at breakfast was poor
Had a lovely stay at the Talbot Hotel, the food was delicious and the bed was the comfiest I’ve ever slept in! Thank you 😊
Nothing spoilt our stay.
Good location, good selection at breakfast, free WiFi, free parking.
I didn't realise that free parking was a public car park with no security cameras and I was on my new motorbike. If I'd have known I would have probably picked somewhere else.
Old pub small but comfortable room with shower. Cooked breakfast and coffee very good.
Centrally located and friendly staff.
Decent priced accommodation with breakfast included. Friendly staff. Free parking nearby.
The room decor and furnishings looked tired and in need of a refresh. Along with the carpet on the stairs.
Location, great parking, lovely staff, great breakfast.
My bed squeeked
Comfy rooms. Friendly staff. Free parking. Amazing breakfast.
Good sleep in clean room with hot shower
No staff present at breakfast - don't know why. Thought it was served from 08.00 on weekdays but no one appeared until c.09.00 as our group was leaving. No response from on-call phone number
The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Even though there was a misunderstanding about food being available on the Sunday evening the owner opened the restaurant just for us. The Sunday lunch was excellent value for money. The bed was extremely comfortable and we both had a great nights sleep followed by a lovely breakfast.
A little noisy from the bar but it was a bank holiday. Wouldn’t stop us staying again.
The room was clean and comfortable. Both the breakfast and the evening meal were delicious and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Excellent value for money and a great location.
95Stay was great but just tried booking again based upon paying when we arrive via booking.com which weve always done........... dont do it as they charged us the full price of the room with no advance notice. When speaaking to booking.com and I say that tongue in check because I got an AI response, I got told to talk to the hotel regards refund etc. You cant talk to the hotel because each time you call you get a message saying that number not recognised mmmmmmm something wrong here. Maybe I should have gone with the kings arms cos although I knew I'd be paying in advance, it was onnly £63 pounds and not the 90.07 that I was willing to pay at the Talbot because we know and like the place. I'll maybe think again in future
Great location. Very friendly helpful staff
Nothing
Breakfast was quite good
The evening menu was either steak or burger. If you didn't eat these you have a problem. The amount of abusive language while trying to check was unconscionable. The room was cold with radiators not working, though had a temporary oil filled one provided
Food was disappointing, passable, but a bit of a throwback to 20 years ago - breakfast with no fruit or yohurt, just DIY sliced bread for toast, poor quality condiments, no proper coffee - dinner choices really poor unless you like burgersand we don't.
They had some gluten free food
The selection of gluten free items was very limited, there was no gluten free bread
Some of our wedding party stayed over night, and joined us for a very enjoyable breakfast. All loved the accommodation. Clean and tidy and staff lovely and very helpful. We had booked the superior double but was not available due to unforseen circumstances, fortunately they had another room and although small it was perfectly acceptable. Would highly recommend. Beautiful location also.
My husband became ill as we arrived at the hotel. The kindness of the staff checking us in was so appreciated. At midnight I had to dial 999 to request an ambulance. The owner opened up the hotel and fielded calls to medical staff via his telephone as my French phone did not work. Without his support I am not sure I could have coped! I highly rate the hotel, the kindness of staff, and of their ‘local’ community who made me welcome. Everyone went above and beyond. THank you all SO much!
The hotel was situated in the middle of a delightful village. The breakfast at the hotel was excellent. The owners were very friendly and obliging.
Not really a criticism but the shower didn't drain properly and I had to be quick before the water flowed over the edge of the shower and onto the floor, risking flooding below the room.
Good breakfast, quiet room and a place to collapse very tired after a day walking with a full pack. First time I have stayed in a historic building that was not a Youth Hostel.
Nothing obvious
The room and en suite were perfectly adequate for a short stay and the staff were delightful and helpful.
The breakfast was slightly under par - no fruit or yogurt and rather weak coffee. The room lacked a comfortable chair and hanging/storage space.
It was very nice property staff was nice. Food was good good value for money the history of the property was nice overall would stay again
No lift for bags but it was a old building
Friendly helpful staff. Stressfree. Enjoyed our evening meal and breakfast was ideal.
Front step very difficult. Front door access is not easy.
Olde worlde
The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The location was great and central to where we wanted to go.
Booklet said the rooms were cleaned daily, tea and coffee replenished daily and food served until 7pm on Sundays. Room wasn't cleaned any time we were there (3 nights). Tea and coffee not replenished at any time unless requested at the bar. No food served at any time on Sunday and nowhere local open serving food apart from Indian across the road (where we had eaten the night before) ended up with a Chinese takeaway, which we were allowed to eat in the hotel. No wardrobe as room was too small.
Location
Disgusting condition of the property, dirty smelly bar area acting as reception the property is in dire need of a complete overhaul Completely dishonest description and advertising photos Did not stay due to appalling conditions
Location busy high street but much as expected.breakfast saved the day plentiful hot and fresh.
Room basic and drabe.Appreciate the building was old. However good lick of paint and some new carpet desperately required.Gratefull that the pulsating music was switched off at 11pm but not the best of sleeps.
This place was perfect for us as a family to stop over the night before visiting the safari park on the Saturday. Amazing value for money, great breakfast, relaxed and friendly staff. We will be back next time we need a bed around that area.
Very flexible and helpful staff, substantial breakfast, and at a very reasonable price.
Option of an evening snack/meal would have been ideal.
Friendly staff and good food
No chair in room. Uncomfortable watching tv sitting on bed or stool. Twice served meals on chipped plates.
Friendly staff, good choice for breakfast
Nice room comfortable, peaceful. Bar staff Ben was lovely.
Good breakfast just not good service. Dining room much to hot . No plates, cutlery had to wait and ask for everything
Friendly staff. Lovely big room . Great locstion Vslue for money. Good breakfast
Room wasnt very clean. Crunbs on csrper. Skde dirty in bathroom Mould on bathroom wall. Quite dated decor. Smelt in wardrobe so didnt use . Outsude old carpers worn. Fire exit briken at bottom. Lots of junk as csme upstairs. Just needs somw diy & updating. Would then be a fantastic hotel . Mstbe soend a bit of money . Would definitly pay mire for a room if money was spentvbringing it up to date
Parking, Bar and food
Only criticism is my bed was a little hard maybe a matrice topper would have been good
Everything, the room, the staff pub itself
Very warm and friendly welcome.
