Penny's Motel

A perfect place to stay, lovely little restaurant and loved that there were conversation areas where you could sit and have a picnic. Very European and welcoming atmosphere that the owners have created. Coolers to store, wine, beer and to kept food cool.

Exceptional service is what really sets Penny’s apart— a friendly face to answer your questions or help you out at every opportunity. Matthew helped us right away when the A/C in our 1 Queen Room was not working well, and when the issue could not be resolved he considerately upgraded us to a lovely 2 Queen Room. The first room was tight but beautifully appointed (the bathroom was especially well thought out.) The upgraded room was gorgeous and quite spacious. We appreciated the ice chest containers between the rooms outside, the adorable treats they left for our dog, and even the cute s’mores kit. Apres restaurant had delicious pizzas and cocktails on their pretty patio. Our only regret was that our itinerary was too full and we could not properly take advantage of the fire pit or other outside game amenities. We would love to return in the future for a longer stay.

Modern and comfortable. Taking an old highway motel and renovating it, adding an inviting yard area with sauna, fire pit (and providing a “s’mores kit!) and lounge chairs is a wonderful idea.

There isn't a better "base" for a trip to cider country and the surrounding attractions. Right off the main road to everywhere. Beds were LOW! Easy for short people to climb onto. A refreshing change from hotel beds which are four feet high! And the staff were super-friendly.

No breakfast at the motel at all. Food options at Apres, the cafe, were limited. I understand that choice, though. Some of our fellow patrons behaved very badly. Not the fault of the property.

We had breakfast and dinner in town. The decor was fun and uplifting. The room was quiet and comfortable.

Staff was EXTREMELY friendly, rooms were beautiful, oysters are $2 on Tuesdays. What more can I ask for?!

Ende Oktober konnten wir leider den Pool nicht mehr nutzen. Jedoch gab es eine Sauna.

The best time here. The only place to stay in the area. I can’t fault this place. From the surprise smors pack, to the eski ice trucks next to your room, to the campfire, sauna and tub. The facilities, staff, food and drinks were unreal! I can’t wait to stay again.

Second stay and we loved the new sauna and cute tiny pool, though a larger beach towel and providing a bathrobe would be appreciated. Excellent communication for easy check in and check out. Overall very comfortable and cute and would stay again.

Downside is the location is not easily walkable to anywhere but it was a short drive to the excellent Bruce Wine Bar. Room window looks out into the courtyard and for any privacy need to keep the blind closed which then removes all the sunlight.

We liked everything - the decor, the cleanliness (very clean!!) the après bar (great food!) the friendly staff, the sauna and plunge pool. It was a great place to stay for a few nights on the outskirts of Thornbury.

The design of the room was excellent. Quiet HVAC system, small bathroom, but nice tiles and a shower that’s easy to work. Full length mirror. Kleenex. No noise at night.

Great location - 10 min drive from blue mountain and few minutes away from the shops/cafes of Thornbury. Modern and cozy interiors with great attention to details and amenities (Fire pit, sauna, Nesspresso machine, smart TV, and many other little things that make a difference)

Mattress was too soft and pillows too high, but that’s a matter of preference I suppose. Opening times of shop/bar/apres area were limited to the afternoon.

Modern, clean rooms with cool art and little quirks! Sauna was lush, hope to use the cold pool next time. Short walk through some cool parks, waterside trails and yummy grub! Staff were great and welcomed us upon arrival.

Cool place to stop on our way home from Manitoulin but not tonnes to do locally (without going to Collingwood).

The Staff at Apres was AMAZING!!!! The Manager was also so kind and accommodating.

Such a cute motel. Vibe was amazing, so quiet too. Comfy rooms with all the amenities you need and more . Stay were over the top exuding customer service and so personable . Within a 10 minute walk to downtown to lots of excellent restaurants and shops. Across from Thornbury brewery too! Can walk to the harbour which was a bonus! Definitely recommend and will go again.

Cool and hip vibe and decor! Relaxing spot and close to places in town to eat at and see. Not a far bike ride or drive to the water and beautiful sunsets down at the Pier that you don't want to miss. The staff were very friendly and easy to talk to and gave great suggestions on where to eat. Good amenities (sauna, cold plunge pool, yard games, live music, bikes, fire pit). All in all it was a nice spot to stay for a couple nights.

They did great executing the vibe, decor and some amenities, but they missed the mark when it comes to functionality, mainly with the rooms. The bathrooms are tiny so the space in it needs to be used better. A shelf under the sink for your toiletries, extra toilet paper, etc..would be better than having a basket with a hair dryer in it. There needs to be 2 shelves above the toilet to put things on and a couple more hooks to hang a hand towel or your clothes on rather than off the bathroom window crank! The light bulbs in the lamps are very dim and need to be brighter so you can read at night and see. More hangers are needed and an iron and ironing board as well. Providing some hooks near the door to hang your swim towels and swimsuit on to dry would be helpful. As for the outside area, it was well thought out and lots to do. It's a small property so not a huge outdoor space but what they did with it is inviting and comfortable. The only thing I would suggest is to put in stepping stones in the area where the seats, pool and sauna are as the rocks are very hard to walk on with bare feet. Also an umbrella on the pool deck since it's full sun there the entire day. All in all the feel of the place and amenities they provided were good. It's the smaller details that need to be ironed out and worked on.

We loved every single thing about our stay at Penny's Motel. It was clean, updated, the Apres snack bar and staff were amazing. Check in and out was so easy. We will be back for sure!!

The vibe of this motel is spot on. Buzzing with excitement and fun.

Very clean and quaint. Court yard vibe was a blast. Live entertainment Sunday afternoon was awesome. Come and enjoy a fun yet relaxing experience.

Such a thoughtfully curated property with excellent staff both at the hotel and at Après! They made setting up the room for a mini-bachelorette party seamless, and were very accommodating. The room is incredibly stylish and clean. Great bed, toiletries, and Nespresso machine! There was a sweet hand-written note and a S’mores kit waiting for us in the room on arrival too. We loved everything about Penny’s and will return in the future!

The place is very comfortable and stylish. the location is great with free parking. the staff are amazing.

All of the aesthetic touches were wonderful! If you’re someone who likes taking cute photos, this place had lots of opportunities. Loved the fire pit, I imagine in the summer this would be a great way to meet people. I like the idea of the space creating a community like a hostel whereas traditional hotels don’t really have that.

If the property had a hot tub it would have made the stay even better. The sauna was more of a dry heat which was difficult to stay in for me, but I’m sure other guests probably enjoyed it. The view into the yard is nice but felt like our blinds had to be closed for privacy, unsure if the glass were tinted I should have checked but if not I’d personally enjoy privacy + natural light. However, these are small things!

The area is amazing, the fire pit, the restaurant and the room are lovely. I want to go back.

I have stayed here a few times when in town for work and the hotel manager remembered me and even took the time to leave me a personal welcome note and to leave me a bag of ice to stock my cooler for the next day before I left for work.

The room I stayed in this time was a little dim, the lights were too low for me to read before I went to sleep and I had to use my phone to light my book while reading.

The diner attached is super cute and quaint and, we loved the space.

Room is slightly smaller than expected but we get it, not worth complaining about - will just book the bigger room next time.

Everything was as described and the room was ready for our stay. Staff were very responsive when we called in but otherwise we didn’t have much contact with them. I’d stay again at Penny’s Motel and recommend it to friends.

The room was a bit cold when we arrived and given that it was winter time, it took a little time to warm up.

Everything was very beautiful and well thought out. We loved the nespresso detail in the room. It was very successful in terms of cleanliness and was a 10-minute drive from the ski resort. We will definitely come back!

We booked 3 nights over Christmas for overflow sleeping and it was perfect. Looked like a fun apres etc. for use at non-holiday times.

Just a little bit smaller than I expected

The room was beautiful and well setup. The Nespresso and body care scored bonus points for me. But what I liked best was the warm welcome by the staff and the wholesome experience at Apres. The cocktails were sublime and being able to take them with me to enjoy the bonfire was something to rave about.

The property is so cute, cozy and most importantly clean !
