Clean, modern, comfortable
The pillows, the continental breakfast could have been slightly better. No marmalade, limited selection of fresh fruit. No fruit juice available.
Great location for us as son works and lives nearby and price is reasonable
Nice unique place
Dinner wasn’t the nicest
The accommodation offered is rooms above the pub, and that was fine for us, as we wanted a one night stop-over as part of an extended road-trip, and so didn’t need full Hotel facilities. Check-in was quick & easy. Allocated #1, and it was comfortable and had the amenities we needed. The bathroom was fine, and the shower was good quality. (This should be 'a given', but it's amazing how many places can't get this right). Off-street Parking wasn’t available for us, but we quickly found a space amongst the locals vehicles, in the road alongside the pub. WI-FI comes included in the price, and a comprehensive continental breakfast was also included. Cooked options can be paid for on request.
I'm never a fan of an 10am check-out time. I appreciate that there are House-keeping tasks to complete, but when Check-in isn't until 3pm, do they need a 5 hour window to turn around a few rooms?
Great country pub in quiet village location
The pub is great but the catering is very disappointing, main meal in the evening was very substandard. The breakfast in the morning didn’t materialise due to a ‘fan ‘ not working in the kitchen, some plastic bread and marmalade put out and a couple of boxes of cereal. It was unacceptable really and no one was taking responsibility for this and you had to ask why is there no breakfast.. I was told to go to the cafe across the road , not good enough. This is my second stay here , the first time was much better. They need to up their game.
The included 'continental' breakfast was very poor. Apart from that the accommodation was excellent.
Breakfast
Nice staff
Expensive breakfast
Easy to find. Easy to park. Rooms were clean, comfortable and very nice. Restaurant food was delicious.
Beautiful comfortable bed with air conditioning. It was stifling hot when we stayed.
Nothing
Good size comfy bed, location perfect for purpose of stay
Different size towels and marks on them, bedding had stains on them. Hair in the bathroom. Extractor fan not working. General cleanliness of the room not up to 4 star standard
Lovely village pub. Polite and friendly staff. Food and service excellent. Stopped twice now and will be back.
Not a lot
Booked air con in room ended up sleeping in an oven staff didn’t care
Great staff. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. They even changed rooms as our room got direct sunlight during a heatwave to another room for our last night so we could be more comfortable.
Nothing to dislike
Lovely friendly country inn situated in a small, tidy, pretty Leicestershire village. Clean and comfortable with character. Absolutely lovely staff looking to help out wherever they could. We were 4 friends attending a music festival 7 miles away (Glastonbudget!) and Ashton offered to drive us both to ans from the event so we could all have a proper drink. Amazing! Aside from the hospitality, we enjoyed a really plentiful continental breakfast which had all we wanted and was available in a relaxed environment. We loved this place! Car parking super easy out in the quiet roads in the middle of the village, which happens to have a really nice tearoom and craft shop opposite the inn.
Nothing to say, really, it was better than we expected all round.
I chose the Star Inn as I had previously stayed there with my spouse in 2018 Therefore all must have been good for me & son to stay again in 2026'
All was good nothing to dislike
It is a very nice place with a great atmosphere and all the staff are really friendly
No expense has been spared with the room spec down to a smart mirror in the bathroom and bespoke room furniture. Very impressed
I stayed once before with my son last year and the chef didn’t turn up for breakfast. The kitchen seems to be a weakness which is a shame; there were no steaks left for dinner/ fish n chip alternatywas disappointing and my English breakfast was burnt to a crisp in the morning. Very small continental selection too which is penny pinching!
We didn’t get breakfast as it clearly stated breakfast between 7am and 10am we went down to the area at 7.30 am and everything was locked up
We stayed in room 5 and the bathroom was disgusting, black grease around and in the bath plug, which you had to touch to let the bath fill and empty. This area has not been cleaned for months. The outside area was very much the same, fag butts on the floor, rubbish around the area and not been touched since before winter, did witness 2 guy’s have 3 sweeps of trying to sweep the leaves but then stopped to have another fag then go inside to have a drink at the bar.
Set in a quiet country village not for sightseeing around Leicestershire
Lack of parking and limited drawers for clothes
Liked the pub building and the room was a good size and well fitted out. Also, beds were comfortable
The opaque door on the bathroom was a little strange meaning that bathroom lights shined into bedroom (not great when your partner is asleep). Also, although breakfast is included there are additional charges for some items
Amazing room, staff couldn't be any more helpful and were friendly and went out of their way to make you feel welcome. Amazing atmosphere and friendly locals when we joined in the Sunday night pub quiz. Had an amazing couple of nights away and will definitely be returning.
Absolutely zero complaints, will definitely be returning.
Stay here regularly for work. Great countryside location. Friendly staff. Comfortable rooms. Good breakfast!
I was blown away with the accommodation and the restaurant was only there one night but i will be going back again
Everything
Breakfast was ok, but be aware included breakfast is just cereal & toast
Perfect room amazing pub food and fantastic friendly staff
The fact I could only stay 2 nights
Clean with a modern feel in a lovely traditional old village pub setting. Staff were very helpful, polite and pleasant. Food was very nice and the service was excellent. Very relaxed, peaceful and perfect for an overnight or weekend stay in particular.
Nothing
What a delightful and comfortable overnight stop. Staff very courteous and helpful. We thought the food choice and quality was excellent, we will return with friends.

Nice rooms & cute setting
2 members of staff lacked basic customer service. Breakfast included was only continental which wasn’t clear when booking. Hot breakfast needed pre booking although we were told we could decide at breakfast however sadly (even though we said we would like a cooked breakfast on our prebook form) we weren’t asked & the waitress wasn’t evident so we didn’t bother.
Beautiful hotel in a lovely location, staff very friendly and polite. Recommend if visiting Melton Mowbray as a base
Booked for the location
Lack of service and communication. Staff were unfortunately not equipped with any face to face communication skills
Great character, location and the staff were very helpful.
Nothing really but if they had ev charging facilities that would be great.
Great location bedroom overlooked village green. Accommodation spotlessly clean and well equipped. Breakfast to satisfy even the largest of appetites
Nothing to criticise
Bed was firm.
Having to pay extra for a hot breakfast.
Lovely Break fast
we did not get the breakfast as we advised the hotel that we needed breakfast at 7.30 as we needed to be in melton for a bowls commpetion at 8.45 so they advised us that the buffet breakfast would be all laid out for us at 7.30 but when we arrived for breakfast the doors were all locked we waited until 7.45 after ringinng the reception bell a number of time. there was also another 4 people expecting to eat at the same time as us. not good at all as we had to buy breakfast when we should have had it in the price we had paid.
above comments should have been typed here sorry also whilst having a meal here we were double charged for drinks which after pointing this out they were removed . Hotel itself is fine but doubt we would stay here again as catering side of business is not good
The pub is beautiful as are all the rooms. The staff were fantastic, so friendly, really took the time with each customer. Fantastic food. Highly recommend 👌🏻
Absolutely nothing
Nice clean rooms in a good location for us.
Breakfast was ok. Continental could have been better. Evening meal was good. Staff were very helpful.
Room 4. Smell of decorating? Cold on arrival. Bathroom very dusty from work been done? Toilet seat dirty and not soft close. Mattress rock hard.
Very friendly staff
Parking a little limited but that’s because of village location
It was a lovely building set on the village green. The inside was beautifully clean, with subtle lighting in the bar area but brighter in the restaurant. It was obviously a very popular local pub
One tiny criticism, it says on booking.com that breakfast is included. What it doesn’t say is that it is only a continental breakfast. We ended up paying a further £25 on top for a cooked breakfast. That said it was an excellent breakfast and was worth the extra!
Great stay - very comfortable & good food
Restaurant good, portions big, friendly staff. Room clean enough, plenty of towels and good selection of toiletries.
Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Continental or cooked breakfast for additional charge. The continental would be fine if there was a bit of variation but it’s the absolute bare minimum (bit of bread, some yoghurts, minimal pastries or cereal option). I just had a coffee & juice - Couldn’t find any sugar for coffee either. Would suggest that breakfast includes hot/cooked food as standard and you increase brekkie rate if needs be.
From start to finish the staff was extremely helpful and friendly I’d highly recommend people from all walks of life to stay at the star Inn
Having to leave, would of loved to stay longer
Nice location, good atmosphere in the pub/restaurant
Bedside lights were broken along with the box covering the room's consumer unit. The mattress was poor, I sat down and felt the base unit underneath. I booked fairly last minute and saw the booking included breakfast. Once I looked into the booking I found out it was a continental breakfast, a bit disappointing. Restaurant food was ok but not the best, I had the belly pork with black pudding. The black pudding was so thin it was pointless putting it on. The pork belly was a great potion size, but the fat wasn't rendered therefore over power the rest. I ordered some triple crooked chips, just tasted like refried day old chips, hard and bitter. Should be fluffy and crispy, I couldn't eat them. Cheesecake was ok
Lovely old property, interesting, cosy and relaxing
Nothing
The location was perfect for my trip, very comfortable rooms. The food and the staff were excellent. The bar staff were so friendly and helpful.
For me the pillows were too hard but that’s personal preference. Parts of the room need a bit of tlc but we’re good overall.
Location
Cold and old breakfast
It was close to where we needed to be to meet my daughter When first arrived it looked very pretty and they had arranged a table for us in restaurant where ch I wouldn’t have thought of so was perfect given how busy it was fur New Year’s Eve and food was lovely
Only minor comment would be that due to the New Year’s Day bank holiday they were only serving continental breakfast not traditional breakfast so didn’t access breakfast
Great location. Staff were super friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was excellent and our room was clean and comfortable. Will happily stay again.
Nothing
Extended stay for 3 additional nights and any small hiccups on first night were corrected The upgraded room was exceptional clean ,bright with wonderful views across the green and street decked out with decorations Both the hotel staff and the restaurant and bar staff could not have done more to make you feel welcome Would i stay here again definitely would i recommend to others definitely Word of warning if coming in the winter ensure that you have your wellies and good outdoor clothing this place is perfect for a walking holiday in the surrounding areas Final comment perfect location in a traditional English village
The hotel and restaurant and bar are run as separate entities but again when the staff got to know you you were treated like a local which was refreshing The Sunday roast was exceptional with a good selection of traditional roast and alternatives The white bait starter was fresh and cooked to perfection the roast dinner was good However my first night had an exceptional Malbec the last night they had run out and offered a substitute which in my and my friends opinion was very poor and not in the same league as to what's on the menu Secondly until we paid could not give us a price but charged at the menu price when unfortunately on googling it was found to be cheap supermarket wine Would i eat here again yes Would i visit and eat and drink yes but would check on the brand and price of Malbec first Would i recommend to others yes a real rural country pub with the views to match
Excellent
Beautiful pub, bedroom was lovely very comfortable. Staff were all great, very friendly. Evening meal in bar was excellent, and a great atmosphere in the pub.
Breakfast. The continental choice was included and quite sparse, but we both decided to have scrambled egg and bacon on toast, pre ordered the night before. The bacon seemed to have been deep fried and the scrambled egg, microwaved. Such a disappointment after a lovely experience the previous evening. Had to ask for a teaspoon and sugar for.my tea.
Stopped at the star inn on a number of occasions and it has always been excellent
Ran out of Baileys
Everything was a suprise I booked as it was close to where I was working the next moring, but it was a very pleasant suprise how warm and cosy it was, the staff were very good and the menu was quality for the venue I would never have expected it to be that good.
All was good what I didn't like was personal and nothing to do with wrong.
Quaint - lovely pub, restaurant and accommodation in a beautiful village. It was the perfect stay following a day at Ragdale Hall spa. I would highly recommend it. We were made to feel welcome and really looked after.

Everything
The evening menu isn't very exciting, very limited
Friendly, good location and nice but small room
Been before, friendly and welcoming. Room nice and warm an clean
Bed uncomfortable
Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. The room and ensuite facilities were exceptionally clean. Despite arriving in the evening and not having booked a meal, the reception lady was very helpful in arranging for us to eat.
The included continental breakfast was adequate but crowded serving area and a bit slow producing croissants.
I only had the continental breakfast but had everything I wanted.
Couldn't really fault it anything. Shame I was there for work otherwise I would've had the unlimited Prosecco and pizza for lunch.
This was extremely good. From start to finish the staff were super friendly and helpful. Very comfortable room, nice and quiet, lovely bathroom and great shower. Very quaint little pub with lovely food. We enjoyed a yummy Sunday roast…. Breakfast was very well cooked, although you do have to pay extra if you want more than a continental breakfast! Everywhere was spotlessly clean too. Definitely would return and highly recommend.
Clean. Very nice staff. Good breakfast.
Nothing. Ever was great
Excellent food
Excellent service ,good food ,good beer ,comfortable
Only one thing ,the tv in our room only got terrestrial tv ,no you tube
Lovley Inn, exceptionally clean rooms and great food
Room was comfortable with a nice view of the village green
Bar area didn’t have any heating on and some of the food items we ordered were not available, disappointing as it was a Saturday night!
Great location, lovely room and friendly staff.
Parking can be an issue in a small village not built for the modern world. This is overcome by the location and history of the village
Good breakfast and comfort.
