Reviewed Sep 19, 2026The hotel was very clean, comfortable, and well organized. The check-in process was quick and easy, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I really liked how clean and tidy everything was, as well as the good range of facilities. The location was also very convenient, only about 15 minutes from the airport. Overall, I had a very pleasant stay.
There was nothing I particularly disliked about my stay. Everything was clean, comfortable, and well organized.

Les parties communes manquent clairement de propreté. La piscine n’est visiblement jamais nettoyée, grosses traces vertes au niveau du liner. Literie de très mauvaise qualité.

O Sr. António esteve sempre muito atento, enviando mensagens para saber se estava tudo bem e se precisávamos de alguma coisa. Quando o nosso voo atrasou, teve ainda a gentileza de nos deixar aproveitar a piscina durante a tarde, mesmo depois do check-out, o que foi um gesto fantástico. A D. Cecília foi também muito simpática e atenciosa, sempre preocupada com os pequenos detalhes e em garantir que nos sentíamos o mais confortáveis possível. Sem dúvida, recomendamos a estadia e agradecemos toda a atenção e hospitalidade! 😊

Reviewed Sep 9, 2026La casa es muy bonita y muy funcional. La habitación en sí es perfecta y la cocina como zona común está muy bien equipada.
Está ubicada cerca de todo realmente pero es un poco costoso el camino para llegar ya que son muchas curvas en subida. Pero tampoco se hace muy pesado el trayecto ya que no deja de estar cerca de todo.

Reviewed Aug 31, 2026Nos alojamos en una habitación dentro de una casa familiar y la experiencia fue muy buena. Cecilia y Antonio fueron encantadores, muy amables y nos explicaron todo detalladamente desde el primer momento. La casa cuenta con una cocina compartida muy bien equipada y una nevera donde pudimos guardar nuestra comida sin problemas. Al estar situado en la montaña de Gaula, el paisaje es precioso y el clima es muy agradable; hace más fresco que en el pueblo, lo cual se agradece. Un lugar totalmente recomendable si buscas tranquilidad y naturaleza.

Reviewed Aug 31, 2026El trato con el personal fue muy bueno. Cecilia nos enseñó toda la casa y Antonio estuvo atento durante toda la estancia.
El alojamiento ofrece servicios que no corresponden, como por ejemplo la conexión a wifi en las habitaciones (tenias que desplazarte hasta la sala común si querías disfrutar de ello). Además, la humedad en la habitación es muy elevada, y eso provoca que haya malos olores. Nosotros escribimos a Antonio para comunicárselo, porque era imposible convivir con ese olor, a lo que su respuesta fue: no tiréis papel a la papelera del baño. Nos quedamos muy decepcionados con su respuesta. No repetiríamos la estancia aqui.

Antonio e Cecilia sono molto accoglienti Ci sono tre gattini simpaticissimi che appaiono ogni tanto
La cucina in comune, a volte non pulitissima per altri residenti.

Per WhatsApp konnten wir mit ihnen Kontakt aufnehmen und sie haben uns immer wieder durch diese schöne Woche begleitet mit fragen ob ihr zufrieden sind ob wir gut geschlafen haben und ob es uns gefällt also sehr liebenswürdige nette Gastgeber und wir haben wunderbar geschlafen in diesem Zimmer mit Blick auf den Pool und das Meer in der Ferne. Da es nicht weit weg von Funchal und vom Flughafen liegt der perfekte Ort und doch sehr ruhig wir haben es sehr genossen
Uns hat eigentlich alles gefallen aber unser Zimmer war für unser Geschmack etwas zu dunkel wir haben es gerne hell aber das lässt sich nicht machen aber dafür alles sehr schön mit Liebe hergerichtet. Wir würden beim nächsten Madeira Aufenthalt auf jeden Fall wieder zu diesem wunderbaren oasenplatz kommen

Reviewed Aug 6, 2026Very kind staff. The swimmingpool was nice and was cleaned while we were there. The kitchen was fully equipped and the fridge was clean. It was nice to be able to have breakfast outside. It was a quiet area.
Unfortunately our room had mould in it. There was mould on the ceiling in the shower and in the corner near the bed. It also wasn’t entirely clean unfortunately. We were really looking forward to this place but the room just wasn’t good.

Reviewed Aug 4, 2026I had an amazing stay at Antonio's house, welcoming, beautiful, and full of charm. The levadas are just a 15 minutes walk away, and the garden is gorgeous. I really felt at home. Antonio makes you feel at home, Cecilia takes wonderful care of this huge house, and it shows: the rooms are comfortable, everything is spotless and well organized, and the whole place is designed to make you feel happy

l'état insalubre de la piscine et le manque de propreté dans la salle de bain (rideaux de douche sale, tuyau douche dénudé dangereux, joints sales...) pas de petit frigo individuel dans les chambres. Le ménage n'est pas fait sur les 8 nuits restées. Le WC juste derrière la porte de la salle de bain, collé au meuble vasque, vraiment pas pratique.

Reviewed Jul 21, 2026The possibility to use a shared kitchen with a fridge, easy to park in front. The owner is very nice and reactive and responded immediately with a solution after I complained about the first room and changed the room. The houses have a certain charm.
The first room was on ground floor with ants in the bathroom, strong smell of mold even if mold was not visible, high humidity, no WiFi in the room, and a sock forgotten probably by previous guests under the bed (meaning no cleaning was done under the bed). After I complained, the owner immediately changed room for a first floor room which was clean, without any smell and more spacious and I even managed to catch WiFi.

You could tell that he genuinely cared that his guests were having a good stay and that their needs were being met. The property is located in the peaceful, small town of Gaula, which we loved and found much more quaint, authentic, and local than Funchal. We’re extremely glad that we stayed here instead of Funchal. The room and bathroom were very comfortable and spacious, and the shared kitchen was well equipped. The pool and garden space are very beautiful and such a peaceful place to relax!
The kitchen and shared space were comfortable but had a bit of a musty smell, but still comfortable spaces with everything you need nonetheless! Also the wifi was very spotty from the bedrooms, but stronger in the shared spaces.

Gaula has a beautiful soul, starts with a lovely church, really good bakery, authentic bars and very kind owner of Casa D’Avo Beatriz - Antonio. He was really kind and always helpful. The room was clean, the pool too. There is a big kitchen where you can cook too.

Reviewed Jun 28, 2026Logement sympa dans un petit village typique. Antonio est très gentil. Chambre plutôt agréable après une péripétie. Le fait d’avoir une cuisine est bien pour stocker et/ou cuisiner.
La literie n’est pas hyper confortable. Nous avons eu un soucis à notre arrivée dans une chambre qui sentait l’humidité. Antonio nous a changé de chambre et celle ci était mieux mais tjrs avec quelques traces d’humidité notamment les lampes de chevet .. La cuisine sent également mauvais. Un peu de rénovation serait appréciable pour les futurs voyageurs.

Reviewed Jun 1, 2026La tranquilidad del lugar, que era un establecimiento no masificado y que se podía aparcar con facilidad en la puerta de la casa. La casa por fuera era muy bonita y tenía piscina, aunque no nos bañamos en ella. Una panadería/pastelería cercana que nos atendieron todos los días fantásticamente. Igual un restaurante cercano.
La casa tenía lo básico. No había wifi en las habitaciones y tenías que bajar a una sala común si querías tener conectividad, lo cual no era cómodo. No había más que un colgador para las toallas en el baño, el sitio tenía humedad y no se secaban para el día siguiente. Esta casa con un mantenimiento y actualización de mobiliario e instalaciones sería un sito genial.

Lits très inconfortables (on sent chaque ressort), inconcevable d'avoir des lits premier prix dans une maison d'hôte. L'isolation est inexistante, tant thermique que sonore, on entend les voisins et de l'air passe sous la porte (et même à travers). Éclairage à refaire.

Reviewed Apr 27, 2026Le propriétaire Antonio nous a accueillis personnellement et chaleureusement. La maison se trouve en campagne, au calme et est très jolie.
La cuisine n'est pas vraiment équipée pour cuisiner. Pour nous qui préparions nos pic-nic pour le lendemain et nos dîners le soir, ce n'étais pas adapté : pas de couteaux de cuisine, de planche à découper, vaisselle un peu oubliée sous la poussière.

Reviewed Mar 11, 2026Odzivnost in prijaznost lastnika. V drugačnem vremenu je lokacija verjetno top. Mi smo rezervirali iz nuje zaradi odpovedi leta. Sobe so prostorne., bazen na vrtu, ki ga zaradi slabega vremena nismo mogli uporabljati.
Zeblo nas je, po 1 dnevu delovanja električnega radiatorja se je končno ogrelo. So bile pa ekstremne vremenske razmere, 2 dni močan veter, dež. Skupna dnevna soba s čudovitim starim pohištvom bi potrebovala nekaj osvežite in čiščenja (verjetno koncept je glavna sezona, za to poskrbiji)

It became a frustrating last night of our holiday. Definitely not recommend this place. We were surprised how many good reviews this place has. When we arrived at the hotel there was nobody. We tried to call but it apparently it was the wrong number. The neighbours gave us the number of the owners wife. When we finally got contact with the owner he said he was on his way. It would take 20 minutes. In the end, we waited more than 1.5 hours! We were calling him to ask for updates instead of him calling us.

Necessario il noleggio auto da subito! La posizione é estremamente fuori da Funchal, mezzi di trasporto inesistenti e difficoltà anche a chiamare un bolt. La camera al mattino risultava umida, sicuramente complice le giornate di pioggia. Non presente un phon per capelli e l’acqua calda ci ha messo un po per arrivare.

L'ensemble est agréable avec espace extérieur et piscine , que nous n'avons pas utilisé mais qui doit être appréciable en été . Nous avons apprécier cette location.

Reviewed Oct 17, 2025Hezky zařízený pokoj, koupelna s vanou, pěkná zahrada, možnost využít bazén, společenskou místnost a malou kuchyni. Atmosféra nedaleké vesnické návsy s kavárnami, závěrnou, snidarnou a obchodem.
Pokoj označeny jako s výhledem na hory měl výhled jen na verandě, ne z okna. Z okna výhled do zdi. WiFi byla jen ve společenské místnosti ne na pokoji.

Reviewed Oct 5, 2025On retrouve les maisons typique du Portugal et pour les connaisseurs c’est nostalgique de retrouver cela, alors oui c’est humide, mais comme typiquement les anciennes maisons portugaises. L’amabilité de l’hôte. À pied vous pouvez aller à la boulangerie et un bon restaurant.
Personnellement il m’a manqué un sèche cheveux.

Reviewed Oct 3, 2025Na docenienie i ocenę na 6 wpływa dobra postawa gospodarza, który jest bardzo miłym i pomocnym człowiekiem. Przyjął nas bardzo miło, poprosiliśmy o suszarkę i żelazko i dostalismy je do pokoju przed przyjazdem. Plusem jest też lokalizacja. Ocena byłaby wyższa, gdyby miejsce zostało odrestaurowane - meble wymagaja wymiany a basen wyczyszczenia.
Basen był brudny i niezdatny do użycia, co było sporym rozczarowaniem, gdyż chcieliśmy z niego skorzystać. W pokoju był nieprzyjemny zapach starych mebli - za każdym razem po wróceniu z całodniowego zwiedzania wyspy, nalezalo przewietrzyć pokój. Szafa w której chcieliśmy umieścić ubrania była cuchnąca i był w niej mol lub ćma - od razu ją zamknęliśmy i nie używaliśmy. Codziennie po kilka-killanascie razy słuchać było dzwony z pobliskiego kościoła.

Reviewed Sep 28, 2025The room was very clean and comfortable, and the host was very welcoming. The courtyard was pleasant, with a nice view of the sunrise. There is a supermarket, bars and cafés nearby and Pico Areiro is only half an hour away, avoiding the busy roads of Funchal.
The wifi was very bad and the shared kitchen was a bit weird (overall clean, but the fridge smelled awful).
