Central position in the centre of Merthyr.
Television in room but not operating despite 3 requests for it to be fixed. Missing handle on draw. Peeling facia off another draw. Window surround detached from window frame. Holes in bath surround
Qualité de l'accueil, repas et petit déjeuner de qualité
Staff friendly, bed comfortable, clean.
Although the location was very central, it came with the noise on the weekend until 3am with drunk people screaming outside all evening/night. The shower holder was broken so couldnt stand underneath it. Single skinned windows. No hooks in bathroom to hang towels. Room 202. Ok stay, wouldn't stay again.
The Castle Hotel is a very large, comfortable hotel in central Merthyr. It is very comfortable and was very quiet when we were there. The room was large and very clean. The Reception staff and breakfast staff were faultless, very good.
There was nothing we did not like, although we did not need parking.
Huge clean warm room booked at the last minute as I was double booked at my original accommodation
WiFi wasn’t great so tv buffered. We used our phones to hotspot
Very clean hotel with helpful staff.
A little bit noisy at the weekend.
Great spot for us to base ourselves when exploring the Brecon Beacons
Room was a quite hot to sleep in the summer
Location
Nothing
Na
There was black mold all over the window sill . Couldn’t close the window . Just felt uncomfortable in the room as anyone could get in to the hotel when people are drunk with loads of banging
Friendly staff Good money value Very good location Very clean There is a fan, useful during hear waves ! Even if it's not very fancy, the room has everything you might need and is very clean and big
The furniture is very outdated. A few simple changes would make all the difference
The staff were very helpful
It was in the right place to be near every thing
The location was good for what we needed.
The shower head holder was broken so we had to fashion one out of a hair scrunchie so we could shower. When I informed the staff when we checked out, they just said "oh that's a genius idea" no apology and no mention of getting it fixed.
It was filthy dirty, the lady in reception was really lovely. We wouldn't and couldn't stay there because of how filthy it was, made me sick. It had pads still in the bin, the shower was stinking, the beds has hair on them. So we walked out early.
The lady in reception when we arrived was lovely
Friendly staff and good location
A little bit outdated
The bath was the best bit
Tv didn’t work. Attention to details. Holes and bits missing of taps. Being woken up at 5am with the lift doors banding and crashing for nearly 45mins Breakfast was ummm below par
Close to the centre of Merthyr. The tv had all of the apps needed like bbc iplayer and 4od. Never seen that in a hotel before
It is a little old fashioned. The room light switches were behind the bed. The shower had very little pressure
För mycket friterat eller stekt. Lokaliteter var okej.
Att man väljer att steka och fritera i ultra proccesade oljor vilket inte är bra för hälsan. Ingen naturell yoghurt utan bara med massa socker i.
Staff was exceptional they allowed me to put my motorbike inside, I am greatfull.
I would have liked to have eaten there but there are a lot of places to eat around the area.
For the cost was a delight.
Room was abit warm , but we in a heal wave. Did also had a fan which others didn't offer.
Member of staff on duty early the next morning was very friendly.
Overall, the hotel was very dated but clean. However, very noisy due to it being city centre on a Friday night, but as there was no air con or working fan available, the windows needed to be open so there was no respite from the noise. After finally falling asleep about 1am, I was woken but what can only be described as a loud siren going off directly in the room, it appeared to be from a device tear the door - not ideal. But, my overall concern was one of safety, anyone could enter the lift and gain access to rooms as there was no key fob, only a key and inside the rooms, there was a flimsy latch that locked the door. I had to push the chair to be in front of the door to feel a little safer.
The property was very nice, very comfortable
Property could do with a bit of maintenance, but a very lovely building
Location and helpful and friendly staff
Soft beds
As a young single woman, I was given a room with no lock. The concierge offered no apology or explanation when I came to request a change of rooms and I didn't feel comfortable challenging him.
Location and the size of the room.
The showers, and the extremely hot rooms.
So nice to be able to have breakfast at 7am on a Sunday morning. It was very good as well.
It was very hot in room
Ideal central location; friendly staff; big room; functional bathroom.
I stayed during a heatwave. The room had very large windows, 90% of which would not open. With no aircon, it meant the room was so hot that sleep was almost impossible. However, such conditions are a rarity in Merthyr (!) and most of the time this would not be a problem.
Location and easy access to town
Our TV was only working 1 day after making a request but once it was switched off it lost signal again. Tap in the bathroom was loose
Good hotel. Excellent location for the centre of Merthyr Tydfil. Hotel was clean and friendly staff. Very good cooked breakfast. Nice to have tea and coffee facilities in the room too.
Rooms could do with a little refurb.
Room was airless and had an odour. Damp windows- visible at the top of the beds.
The room was found to be very large and cold upon entry. We asked for the heating to be turned on, but were told this was not possible as they would have to have turned it on for the whole of the hotel. The lady on reception however, offered to place a heater in our room, which upon return we found had been done and that the room was warm. The hotel is outdated and in need of refurbishment, but we did manage to get a comfortable night's sleep. Tea and coffee facilities were provided. Overall a positive experience, even though the surroundings we stayed in were far from modern.
Great location and great value - Ideal for my stay - I have no complaints
All ok
The location was close to the train station
Request for ID or bank card when checking in...even though this wasnt mentioned when booking. The noise from surrounding pubs until gone midnight/ no noise proofing and wouldnt move me to a different room due to only having suites left. I asked for my case to be kept for an hour after check out, no details taken and case handed to me via different member of staff that never asked for any confirmation of who I was, just handed a case over. Curtains were thin and let in the light.
The view from the window
The luck of cooling during the heatwave, old windows that don't open and noisy neighbourhood with lots of drunk people
Central location, easy access to pubs, restaurants and shops Car parking at the very close Castle Street Car Park is only £1 all day on Saturday and free on Sunday
Quite a lot of street noise at night, but it was a Saturday night after all!
Easy to find and the nearby parking was really cheap. Some nice places to eat nearby
Rooms are VERY basic and in desperate need of a completer re-do not the little touch ups it’s clearly had. Hotel is surrounded by pubs a which like to play live music or karaoke so it’s very loud until Midnight there’s also a lot of very loud locals who like to shout their conversations right outside. There’s also the boy racer element who insist on driving around popping exhausts and revving engines and blasting their own music as well, sometimes until 2-3:00 am The rooms are also hot…really hot. Large glass windows that have the sun on them all day…no air con, no fans. It’s just a really noisy, sweat box you’ll be staying in.
The hotel was spotless, staff were very helpful. Location was great
Nothing really
Restaurant staff very friendly .
Room nice and bright, unable to cool it down, so hard to get to sleep at ti.mes.
Everything was perfect. The stuff is very friendly and helpful, especially Vera.
Restaurant staff were so friendly
Location
Room was very hot, large pipe running around the room were very hot which heats the room up.
Town centre location close to where I wanted to be and great parking near by
Plug in bath didn’t fit the hole
Bed was clean but so soft I sank, which caused a not so restful night. I only 10 stone.
Too hot in the hotel, so caused me to dehydrated in the night.
Convenient location for one night, bed was comfy.
Needs visually updating but very low priority, just feels a bit dated.
Location and new carpets
Coloured tiles in bathroom and baked beans
Nice hotel with friendly staff. Good location and good breakfast. The rooms are partially refurbished, some parts are still a bit old, like the windows.
Nothing in particular.
Very outdated
I liked nothing about the place
Location is pretty good, staff were nice enough, room was clean but had a slight damp smell.. Over all slept really well, boiling hot shower.
It's kinda like Merthyr Tydfil, lack of investment. It's an old building that does need improving. TV wouldn't tune.
Didn’t have the breakfast
Nothing not to like
perfect location
Its right in the town centre, so easy to find everything. staff was extremely nice and helpful, and the night porter was extremely kind and funny ( can't remember is name but a bold chap sorry )! Will defo be back x
The room was very comfortable, all I needed was there. the shower was hot almost straight away, you dont often get that. The location was spot on for the activities I had planned, nothing was more that 30 mins away. I dont really eat breakfast so cant comment but Id say if i had to guess it would be just fine. One of the guest on check out said he always came over for the Sunday lunch, then you must know this is a good place.
for the price paid, this place exceeded my expectations, I needed somewhere to get my head down and the Castle hotel provided just that, its proximity to everything was brilliant, cant fault them and plan to go back next month
Everything went smoothly, the staff were lovely and welcoming, our room was clean and had comfy beds. It's a great location to rest after visiting the Brecon Beacons for a good value! There is no parking provided by the hotel, but just across the road, there is a car park that was free overnight (or £1 for the whole day). Shops and restaurants are very close as everything is in the town centre, and it can get loud overnight as people come out from pubs and parties (maybe have some earplugs if you are not a heavy sleeper).
Location excellent the Locals very friendly. The Lady on reception was very nice. Breakfast was nicely cooked.
I didn't mention that the TV signal was awful, not worth having on. The shower was abit naff.
Pleasant staff Moved my room when issues Near public car park
My first room TV, not working. Second room, a number of lights not working. Toilet didn't flush. Didn't realise until going to bed, so didn't report until the morning. Decor very tired. But you get what you pay for.
Central location, comfortable room, generous en-suite.
Short walk to the centre of Brecon, private parking, and a lovely room with a big bed and tea and coffee facilities.
Nothing, it’s a great venue
It was very clean, in the perfect location for my trip and clearly signs of improvements e.g. new carpets
Everything is hugely dated. The bed wasn’t very comfy and was just a standalone bed . A buzzing noise was right above my head in the wall all night, making me wake up several times (I think it was the extractor in the adjacent room). The room key was like something out of a comedy sketch and I can remember the last place I stayed without a key card. The bathroom products looked like they were bargain basement and from the 99p shop. I’ve stayed in lots of hotels with booking.com, from budget to a real treat and everything in between. This would be joint worst with any other budget hotel I’ve stayed in - except the price wasn’t really a budget price and I’ve stayed in much better mid-range hotels for the price I paid, including in more established locations.
The room was large, very clean, large comfy bed and lovely bathroom with piping hot water. Staff friendly and helpful. Also it was useful to be able to stop briefly in lay-by at front of hotel to ask where to park.
Unfortunately I was on the side of the hotel where there was a pub/club nearby with noisy party goers, and in the morning a fair bit of noise-doors banging etc.
Location of the light switch next to the headboard in room 103. The light came on when I moved in bed!
Very good all prepared fresh
The welcome was, as we have come to expect when we play in Wales, friendly, helpful and hospitable. The room 304 was quiet with a nice view of the hills, it was more than adequate apart from the TV which I just could not get to work, but that is down to my lack of tuning expertise. If Merthyr Tydfil run an event next years as is expected, I will certainly use the Hotel again. Diolch yn fawr iawn
Nothing to add I was satisfied. For the price it gave all I expected and provided all I needed with great hospitality. The breakfast was sufficient and well cooked and presented by friendly staff.
