It was clean cosy busy and the staff were really lovely. Our room was lovely
There was nothing to dislike
The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Breakfast was ok.
Some of the staff were quite abrupt and unwelcoming, the exception being the lady staffing the bar in the evening. The shared facilities were very shabby and dark. There was nowhere provided for us to sit comfortably (no residents lounge).
Établissement sympathique et facile d'accès. Bonne restauration.
Perfect location to visit family in Keswick. Friendly staff. Large room with big bed and window seats with cushions were a nice extra. Breakfast was plentiful with choice of cooked breakfast.
The toilet brush in the bathroom was horrible. Rusty top and dirty. Needs a modern toilet cleaner! Wardrobe open which was strange. Sliding doors maybe? The snug bar for guests was dark and dingy and uncomfortable seating! Noone on the bar to serve a drink so had to use big bar. Felt a bit forgotten!
The breakfast great the staff was polite and the grounds was nice
I had to report door handle hanging off and door would not close.dirty windows and cobwebs all over window bays.under round table hadn’t been cleaned and was full of dust. I had a shave and sink drained so slowly I couldn’t clean my face hair from sink.
The staff were lovely people and we felt welcome straight away… the place was like an old English tavern surrounded by beautiful scenery…
The room was charming, the whole pub beautifully kept, the staff were kind, friendly and accommodating of my requirements and I had a lovely stay, thank you.
The radiator in my room was stuck on full heat and I wasn't able to turn this off, which was a bit too much in full summer, so I had to have the windows open but then multiple insects were coming in. Only a very small discomfort though!
Friendly Efficient staff.
Hard to fault
A very warm welcome, lovely clean room with spacious modern bathroom. The bar is cosy and characterful - the gardens are a delight and parking very easy - all in all an excellent place to unwind!
If you are not dining in the main dining room - the environment feels a bit soulless compared to main bar area
The location was nice and quiet. The accommodation was comfortable and the staff helpful and attentive.
The breakfast offered a wide variety for all tastes, ample parking, serene location and lovely scenery.
Probably not the building itself but advice to guests that sound travels so flushing toilets, running showers and shouting in the early hours will wake others guests.
Staff were so helpful, the setting beautiful and peaceful and perfect for doggies and mucky boot ambles
A little expensive but we did have 2 comfortable nights stay .
Lovely cosy bar, great atmosphere. Pretty garden and nice outdoor area.
Room was a little on the small side
Large room and pet friendly
Probably needs updating
A traditional inn offering all you'd expect from a comfortable pub in a fabulous setting. Excellent evening meal choice along modern pub grub lines. The sausage and mashed gravy was exceptional as was the apple and cinnamon crumble. Very dog friendly and a comfortable bed.
Better choice of bread at breakfast
Breakfast excellent
Dinner bland
The cosy old bar and well kept beer garden. Proximity to places to visit in north lakes.
The staff made us feel like we were being a pain by wanting to stay in the bar beyond 9.30pm. Felt like they wanted to shut up shop and go home. Maybe they did? It was our once a year get-together with our relatives.
Beautiful timeless property, location good, lovely grounds, plenty of parking.. Rooms clean and well maintained.. Very comfortable stay
Nothing of note
The location is lovely with beautiful gardens, our room was small but we knew that it would be on booking but good value for money and just what we needed. The restaurant was lovely and breakfast excellent. The staff were polite and friendly. Good walk on its doorstep near Bassenthwaite. Not much to se in Cockermouth but Keswick is 10 minutes drive away.
Lovely setting, fantastic staff lovely atmosphere
Not within walking distance of other pubs however didnt really matter as the beer garden and bars within the Inn are lovely
Everything except for our room.
When I booked (£200 for 1 night), I was under the impression that our room was quite large with a sofa (bed). However, it was a small room with a sofa bed that we could not put away. We wanted to use it as a sofa not a spare bed.
Location is excellent, beer garden lovely
Poor quality food for dinner and breakfast and not enough staff led to delay in wine for dinner arriving
The breakfast was good. We had fish and chips for dinner but had requested to return the fish as overcooked. Fish should be golden brown. We were given a fresh one but it looked the same. We realised it's actually how they cook it so it was ok and the fish was fine. We appreciated the toom green clean option, thank you.
The morning staff were excellent and friendly. The lady who dealt with our booking on arrival was very friendly and accommodating. But the afternoon/evening staff were rather abrupt to the point of rudeness. I accidentally let go of my dog's leash who unfortunately went just inside the dining room and was rudely told to keep her off the room. Since then, I had seen two guests with their dogs in the bar but were not admonished. I suppose it depends on the staff at the time.
Location and facilities.
Beautiful location, relaxing
Location Comfortable
Nothing
Very good choices for breakfast, location was spot on for us
Amazing property with lovely gardens and places to sit and ponder
Some of the chairs where slightly uncomfortable
All the staff were truly excellent and really made our stay. Breakfast and dinner were very good. The room and the bathroom were tired but pleasant and a good size. I gave feedback on issues we encountered which was taken on board and action immediately taken.
The room was tired and some of the essential information was hidden and could have caused a problem if the staff hadn’t been so understanding and willing to go the extra mile. I noted that we weren’t the only guests to have this particular problem. When pointed out, issues were immediately taken on board and I assume have been rectified.
The food and location
Wasn’t the cleanest, the mattress cover was very stained and the room was very dusty behind the furniture

Food
Very traditional, busy and atmospheric overnight stay here. Dinner in the bar was excellent- and breakfast the next morning was too. Staff were also friendly and welcoming.
Nothing
The quiet location, the comfortable room, nice bed and the pleasant atmosphere in the hotel and bar . Good facilities in room.
Very small shower cubicle was awkward to use (room 24) but worked ok. Nowhere to hang towels in the shower room near the shower
Well kept beer garden and close to Keswick, etc whilst being quiet.
Feeling like we were the last in eating or in the bar and wanting us to move, even tho it wasn't late.
The well kept garden area and quiet location of bedroom, within the hotel.
Sitting alone in the bar and dining area, feeling like you should have finished. Everyone else had gone. A very early pub for both eating and bar areas.
Good parking & WiFi Clean , great staff and excellent service
There was plenty outdoor space Plenty parking Lovely surroundings
Nothing
Breakfast was good, variety of options on offer.
The location should have been more explicit. We thought it was directly on the lake.
all food good as ever, reliable staff
cheaper for regular clients
Breakfast was good, well cooked but was cold before half eaten. The evening meal was very good, especially the mussels. It was a warm weekend so sitting among the trees in the garden was marvellous. The room was comfortable if a bit compact and shower room good. Watching the world cup final gave us neck ache but wouldn't normally go there to watch TV.
Hard pushed to think of anything. Perhaps a screen between the first table for two and the busy entrance doorway (by the 'dog free area', sign). It felt a bit like being on display especially eating mussels which I can't help but get in a mess.
Great location for lake, modern & well furnished bedrooms with great amenities.
Pleasant staff, lovely peaceful location, historic setting and beautiful gardens. Food was quite good.
Bathroom was pretty cramped but ok, not really bothered but the room we were in, you need to be slim for the shower and loo!
Lovely location, beautiful well kept garden, staff were lovely , good variety of breakfast options
Really hot rooms, could do with a spring clean in some areas, fan is room was useless.
Beautiful room
Chaotic restaurant
Staff were great. Food well cooked and good portions. General ambience lovely and location beautiful. Room decor in keeping with period of the hotel. Lovely beer garden and very quiet at night.
Fan in room inadequate for the heat (which was exceptional) and rather dusty which didn’t help efficiency. Staff supplied an extra one which helped a little. Think mattress was ready for renewal - quite soft on the edge and sloping. Otherwise everything was very good. All we needed in the room.
The surroundings
N/a
The room was very comfortable, clean and well maintained. Not ideal for doing work with just a dressing table - but not a problem as I just sat at a table in the bar lounge. Team were very pleasant.
Dinner - I went top end and ordered the Lamb [most expensive dish]. There was a musical event on which took some attention and I think there was a mess up with the order in the kitchen. I waited a long time - very long time - but the manager realised - got involved and sorted it out. When it arrived it was lovely. Breakfast the next morning was ok. I say that as it was not 'wow' and it so could be. Given the stunning building and gardens - this meal should be a wow / memory.

Over priced
Breakfast was excellent. The lady serving us was lovely. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was spot on.
Nothing could have been better. From the moment we arrived the staff were so attentive. We had absolutely nothing to complain about.
“Olde world” look, beams, decor and the creak of years old floor boards. It all added to the atmosphere.
If you are over 6ft, then access to room 7 is an issue.
The friendliness and professionalism of the staff. The excellent fitting out of the room I was allocated. The very peaceful setting of the inn.
Nothing al all
Cosy comfy pretty accommodation, impeccable gardens too
Nothing
Richard was brilliant and made sure we were always happy! Lovely staff and a great inn!
Beautiful setting, stunning rooms & welcoming people.
We enjoyed the location close to Bassenthwaite Lake as well as towns like Keswick, Cockermouth and Ambleside. Food was very good-plenty of choice at breakfast and dinner. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful in extreme heat.
none
We loved sitting in the garden watching and listening to all the different birds.
Lovely old character pub, good pub food and breakfast
nothing
Food was terrible
The venue was good. Staff put themselves out to be helpful & friendly which was very much appreciated.
We stayed in room 19 and the windows are right on a public path & there was no net curtain on one of the windows.
used this one a lot always good value except on bank hols.
cost less at all times
Quiet, picturesque
Very well located, easy access to places, lovely room, quiet place to rest, and use the garden. Breakfast was really good and included in our stay. A quiet car park close to hotel. A nice choice of food in the evenings. Staff really friendly and welcoming
Bathroom and shower were really good, but toilet a little cramped as it was in the corner behind shower.
Location was amazing. Approx 40mins from Ullswater/Pooley Bridge and an hour away from Wasdale. I was staying in a double room. The room was lovely and spacious and even had small sofa. I was able to reserve a table for the evening via the booking.com app. The food was so good. I had Venison Lasagne! Breakfast in the morning was included in the price if my booking. It was part buffet with fruit, yogurt etc. And a full cooked breakfast, which was again delicious!
Great location, nice Inn, room clean and spacious. The food was very good. The outside space was great on a warm summer's evening to relax and enjoy a drink. Would recommend.
We were housed in the annex, lovely room, but noisy from the guests upstairs. We also didn't realize how busy it would be on a Monday, and didn't book a table for an evening meal. Fortunately we were accommodated on a table with a later booking, which was very helpful but we felt a bit rushed. So I would now recommend checking at breakfast and booking in for an evening meal if it's required.
Did not like way spoken to.
The big bed and beautiful views. The gorgeous woods to walk in.
Nothing
The area, around the hotel, easy reach for places to visit.the hotel it's self, clean, comfortable, would go back
Echter englischer Charme, gemütliche Zimmer mit großem Bad, sehr guter Service, freundliches Personal, kostenfreie Parkplätze
The garden at the rear. Great for seating with the dogs.
Lunch. We had sandwiches which were below par with stale bread.
The room was clean location was good staff were friendly
The food was expensive and horrendous very dry and tasteless
lovely place, bed not the most comfortable, food was very good, all in all a good stay
Everything
The pillows
The immediate surrounding area of the Pheasant Inn plus the opportunity to walk from the hotel and explore further afield
A steep staircase to access our room. Being presented with your invoice at the breakfast table on check out day when it was my treat for my partner, and she saw it while I was away from our table.
The surroundings where the hotel is located are beautiful, and the staff are very kind and friendly.
There was a feather breaded into the pheasant burger and on the bed there were more hairs than on my head.
Room was very comfy ...lovely decor .. Excellant breakfast ...we ate in Restaurant on both evenings of our stay and food was fresh and hot . Lots of seating options and tables ..but does get busy so booking advisable
Just the dog policy was a bit confusing ....we are not anti dog however there were dog free zone areas with dogs in there ....we had a meal in the residents area and a couple had their dog in there with them it didnt bother us however some people would not like it .Also at breakfast a lady was told she could sit anywhere with her dog ...perhaps better signage would be of an advantage for other guests.
Lovely Inn. Friendly staff and nice food

Lovely bird song night & morning - amazing.
Nothing.
The overall enviroment.
The food was average at most.
We’ve always loved it here. Staff are wonderful, food is fabulous and rooms are very comfortable. Dog friendly too.
The decor across hotel in the public areas would benefit from a refurb /refresh..
Pretty and location
Rooms were tiny , didn’t like having to walk through a full busy pub with all suitcases
Great find ...will definitely return and recommend 👌🏻
Dog friendly. Staff were great.nice breakfast 😋
Not much on menu in evening
The property was in a lovely location. It had a really nice beer garden and had an old fashion pub feel about it.
Nothing really.
This is a very comfortable and pleasant place to stay, the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was very good too.
Room was clean and functional and given how hot the weather was good to find a fan in the room without having to ask. Peaceful location and plenty of parking available.
Service at the bar and for dinner in the evenings was very slap dash. Food was passed down the table rather than walk round to each guest and place their food in front of them. Food on the first night was actually quite poor. There were also issues with the bar in that all soft drinks on tap were off due to a fault but choice of non tap drinks was limited yet very little apology given. Second night was better but still just passable rather than great considering the prices. Lastly the triple room that we had booked had not been made up as a triple and when I asked the staff were frustrated (by colleagues rather than us as guests) but to the point that we ended up making up the bed ourselves.
Great property and lovely rooms
We liked everything but an elderly couple asked for a coffee whilst we were at the bar, it may have been after 9pm, they were told they couldn’t have one which we thought was a little poor. We understood the machine was off but felt they could have switched it back on to make them one. This didn’t impact our stay but we felt bad for the couple.
Dinner was delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful. Check in was fast and efficient.
NA
Lovely old building. We really enjoyed driving around the Lakes District admiring the hills and the valleys and counting the lakes. This property is well situated for long walks and drives. A very nice breakfast included.
Service provided by all staff. Value for money in restaurant. The hotel gardens.
No residents lounge.
Gardens were lovely. Amazing birds song and quiet location. Quiet and quick service for breakfast. Comfy bed and lots of benches for cases.
Location, historic, did pub well. Food quality was good.
Room was very small. Smaller than imagined for the price. We ate at the pub four times so noticed the Table menu holders were grubby. Need an update.
Lovely old property, with quirky bits
Nothing
The location was picturesque and the main building had character
The food : Although the breakfasts were reasonable (but we have had better at a Premier Inn), the main evening meals were very poor, cold vegetables on the 1st night. On the second night my wife had to complain that her meal was cold and it was replaced. I had a lasagne that was more like minestrone soup. For the 3rd night we decided not to dine at the hotel. The staff: Although some of the staff were friendly I found an assistant manager unprofessional. The Inn Collection group have a 'green clean room' policy whereby if your room does not require cleaning then you can claim a free drink at the bar that evening. The first day this worked well, but in claiming the drink on the 2nd day (Wednesday evening) with a different assistant manager on duty who stated I should have used the 'App' to record the room didn't need cleaning. This wasn't explained to me when we checked in and I felt I was being cross-examined and had to justify the free drink. This verbal exchange took place in front of other hotel guests at the bar. The room: Although stating on the booking that my wife is disabled, we were allocated a room in the annex on the 1st floor which had a steep flight of stairs (for us) to get to. Also, the room had a noticeable gradient in the floor which made all the surplus water on the floor in the bathroom accumulate in one corner.
Good breakfast choices
Quite cramped dining.
Mooi hotel met gezellige bar en restaurant.
Vreemde keuzes in bediening.
Lovely location
The manager was rude and wasn’t very helpful
