Beautiful property. Location and surrounding gardens with a view. The staff were great and the food was excellent in The Grill and Zaik. The Spa was lovely too.
The bedroom windows rattled in the wind.
Amazing every time
N/a
Everything was of exceptional quality and exceeed our expectations of a quality hotel and spa venue. we expect some small evidence of wear and tear but were plesantly surprised to not everything was perfect, excellent, exceptional.
there was absolutely nothing we could fault, OK maybe the original windows rattled a little bit during the night because of the wind which was not particularily strong, but that was easily resolved with a small wedge of paper
The property itself is absolutely gorgeous on the outside. The main rooms inside and the spa are also gorgeous. The landscape around it is stunning and we had a lovely walk around its perimeter. We liked the swing in the grounds too. The grounds were immaculate. All of the staff were really welcoming, friendly and helpful. We couldn't fault a thing in that respect. The food was lovely.
The room we stayed in was outdated, we understand it is an old property, but there is certainly room for improvement, to make the room cleaner looking and more modern whilst in keeping with the original decor. The room itself was dusty too, in the corners of the room, around the lamp shades and some of the wall paper was coming away or discoloured. We couldn't open the windows for ventilation and the fan wasn't enough really! We however accepted it for what it was. And blamed it predominantly on our hormones given we are at the stage in our life. We also found the bed uncomfortable. This however, did not make the stay unpleasant, it just made us feel a little disappointed when we'd saved up to stay to celebrate our 40th Birthdays, and expected that the entire experience would be as beautiful as the rest of the hotel & Spa. The cost of the room was in my opinion a little too much for the quality provided. But worth the price we paid if it had been pristine and the bed was comfortable.
Great quiet location in the lakes, food in both the Indian and steak restaurants was excellent. Spa was also good and the general relaxed vibe made our stay
Lovely big room with a huge bed and a terrace. Excellent choice for breakfast in the dining room which was set out to take full advantage of the wonderful view.
Breakfast coffee could have been better. A cafetiere perhaps?
Peaceful wonderful spa facilities ,great food
Loved our room, the spa and the wonderful dinner in the Asian restaurant.
The fried breakfast could have benefitted from more flavour. However the range of fruit, compots, pastries and breads were wonderful. Thankyou.
The views were unreal and hotel was stunning
Nothing
A brilliant gem in the heart of the Lakes
Beautiful building with lovely grounds and a great range of facilities. Large room with very comfy bed.
Tv in bath not working.
The location was great. Spa was ok. Food was good.
Some staff at the reception were indifferent. The doors to the garden in our garden suit did not lock, when raised: 1. They did not believe us and treated us like we had no clue about patio doors :) 2. They said a ‘General Manager’ would come to check if what we were saying was true at all. 3. A duty manager came, checked, acknowledged and said there was limited footfall near the garden and hinted at not having a solution. 4. When asked to resolve- he said he will get a handy man to fix it- never showed up. Nobody bothered to update us throughout our stay. Left a bitter feeling, started out vacation with this. It just felt like they did not care. Service levels should be upgraded for a 4* hotel.
Location
Overpriced, tad pretentious… wanted to be 5* but 3* staff knowledge!
Everything, I couldn't find fault. It was wonderful and the food was excellent.

Fantastisch! Zeer mooie kamer in het oude gebouw; balkon met uitzicht op het meer. Alles zeer netjes. Het personeel is super attent en heeft heel veel aandacht voor gluten allergie . Prachtige tuin en zeer verzorgd ontbijt.

Not having a smart TV

The wedding on overshadowed the experience food and service at the new Indian dining it was not Good in any level
Bfast excellent. Mean with bacon.
Room a little stale on arrival. Some dorm of freshener would help. No laundry bag. Service slow in Zaika.
Fabulous location. Loved the spa with the infinity pool looking out on a great view of the Lakes
Restaurant - bar meal - a little underwhelming compared to the rest of the hotel
We stayed in the Garden Suite and it was amazing. A beautiful suite with both a bath and huge shower. Separate lounge and dressing room, and the suite had a large balcony. There are televisions in the lounge, bedroom and bathroom. Complimentary still and sparkling water, fresh milk and apples. Not to mention the glass of pink prosecco on arrival. The staff are amazing. Very helpful, chatty and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. We ate in the Grill, and the food was delicious. The waiters were attentive and great company, with the restaurant having a great atmosphere. We went into the spa and tried out the pool, outside jacuzzi, salt and aroma sauna, ice fountain and steam room. Everything was excellent. We also did the Woodland Walk as well as the walk to Bassenthwaite Lake. Beautiful. I cannot recommend Armathwaite Hall enough. We will definitely go back.
Absolutely nothing!
The spa was fantastic as were the staff g
The room was so warm and there was flies on the breakfast buffet
Stunning! So clean everywhere
Nothing!
Beautiful in every way both buildings and grounds. Amenities great, good food and good choice of wines.
Nothing
The place was lovely, the room was perfect, super clean. Really peaceful and calm. The grounds are beautiful. The spa area is really nice.
The breakfast was terrible. The atmosphere was like eating in a library. We barely touched the food which was poorly cooked and didn’t seem like nice quality. Coffees were not good.
Beautiful property. We enjoyed our stay very much. Comfortable room with a nice bathroom. Dinner at The Grill restaurant was a stand out.
Nothing to really complain about. Breakfast was a bit average and some areas of the property looked like it needed a good clean.
We stayed here for 3 nights with Alfred the dog in a spectacular Garden Suite with wonderful air con which was more than welcome in this heat wave ! We were celebrating my husband's 89th birthday, my birthday and our 59th wedding anniversary. We had a fabulous meal on our first night....many thanks to your amazing chef ! Unfortunately, although we had booked for our dog this hadn't got through to the staff so we were provided no dog beds, treats or poo bags which greatly saddened Alfred who thought it was his own fault and had to be reassured. But he felt better after being made such a fuss of by Alvin who we all loved, such a kind man.My husband is disabled but managed a few short walks around the beautiful grounds. The pool and the infinity hot tub made my stay absolutely perfect. Just one thing which I thought may help guests who have difficulty getting around is to provide a labelled map of where the restaurants are located, the names of the rooms , what they can be best used for, and which are dog friendly instead of having to ask. But thank you for a lovely stay.
Breakfast superb, great location staff could not do more spa amazing
Location and the grounds...quite peaceful and sirene
Absolutely stunning hotel spectacular views and location. Classy as . Spent 4 hours in the spa/ pool. Infinity jacuzzi was lush! Over looking woodland. Pool was quiet only us for the first hour what a breath of fresh air. Cannot recommend this beautiful hotel enough. We shared 1 afternoon tea over looking the ground/ lake such a relaxing atmosphere we booked again for August with an overnight stay and dinner literally cannot wait.
The location, situated right on the lake. All the staff we met were lovely, friendly and efficient. The spa and pool area was very good, although could have done with more visible staff.
It is a huge building and consequently there was a lack of attention to detail with the housekeeping, only nit picking really, but if they could find someone to touch up paintwork and sweep the paths it would make a big difference. The gates need refurbishment, first impressions matter! Having said all that it was a lovely stay and we will definitely be back!
Superb. Set in a stately home. Rooms so beautiful. Such a great sleep. The breakfast was lovely. We dined at the Indian restaurant. The food was exquisite. Great thanks to Manoj and Alvin. Incredible service by all the staff. I was made chai specially in the morning.
We got married at this beautiful venue on 02/07/2026, and all I can say is that we were absolutely blown away! The venue itself is stunning, and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. They truly made our day so special and ensured everything was perfect from start to finish. A special mention has to go to Lynsey, the venue’s wedding organiser. She went above and beyond to make sure our day ran smoothly, and every little detail I asked for was taken care of. Nothing was too much trouble, and her support throughout was incredible. It was genuinely the best experience of our lives, and we couldn’t have wished for a more perfect wedding day. If you’re considering this venue for your wedding, don’t hesitate—book it! You won’t be disappointed. Thank you to everyone who made our dream day come true. Gemma & Dave
Such a wonderful experience that I would recommend to every visitor that comes to the Lake District. I would also like to praise the service of Aknil who was very kind and considerate at every moment.
Room 170, comfortable bed, with large outside balcony, with lovely views towards the lake, particularly thrilling with RAF manoeuvres going on! Breakfast was fine with enough choice, and plenty of comfortable rooms and bar to relax in downstairs. Prices high, like everywhere these days it seems. We intended to spend a couple of hours in the spa, using all the facilities. but only on arrival into the pool area discovered the sauna etc. closed, with someone working in there. Could only swim, or use outside Jacuzzi which was very popular (Full.) Front desk seemed unaware of this, and spa staff didn’t inform us either. The standout experience for us was Zaika the Indian restaurant, the food was delicious and catered to our preferences on spice levels. Absolutely loved the Fish Mappas with lemon rice, only criticism from my husband, was one king prawn in his starter was taking the Micky at £13. Service was excellent. Overall enjoyed my overnight birthday treat at Armathwaite, and love it’s old world charm, and grounds.
The location facilities and the rooms and service were extremely good. The Spa was excellent and so relaxing and the staff were so friendly.
Nothing
Five of us went for Sunday lunch to celebrate our friends 40th wedding anniversary. While the food was excellent the restaurant was really missing the charm ,warmth and friendly welcome from Richard who was the restaurant and I think deputy manager when I was last there two years ago to celebrate my 60th birthday. The atmosphere was a bit flat to be honest. I asked the waiters in the bar if he was still there and they said he had left in January 25, The waiters said they were very sad about this. Such a shame as he made such a difference to the atmosphere. The waiting staff looked a bit rushed to be honest. Never came over to see if our food was OK. We had to ask for more gravy as the gravy boat was the size of a thimbl e.
Great location overlooking Bassenthwaite Lake and the fells in the distance. We had afternoon tea in the lounge which was delicious, especially the scones! The service was excellent and the attentive waiter asked us regularly if everything was ok and if we wanted more tea. Would highly recommend.
Great facilities, lovely location and garden and rooms. Overall a great stay.
Would not recommend the Grill for dinner, we had a really bad experience and had to sent a steak back and even when it came back was not cooked the way we were hoping.
My Husband and myself stay here on a regular basis and all I can say is the hotel and staff are exceptional. I stayed here last week for four days and was really poorly (nothing to do with the hotel!) They all went above and beyond to make sure I was very well looked after. All the staff at the lovely restaurants cooked special meals for me for which I am so grateful. This hotel and all the staff are amazing and I just want to say thank you and you are all a credit to the hotel.
Location, how well maintained and wonderful helpful staff
Children’s fixed early morning slot… totally unreasonable
Brilliant !!
We stayed for two nights from 10th to 12th June 2026 and left with a very mixed impression. The food was genuinely excellent and the highlight of our visit. We dined at the grill restaurant on the first night and the Indian on the second — both were fantastic and far exceeded expectations. Breakfast was also very good; although the variety wasn’t the widest, everything we ordered arrived fresh, hot, and delicious. Unfortunately, the hotel itself fell well short of what you’d expect from one of the UK’s supposedly outstanding hotels. We originally booked a Club Double at over £300 per night mid-week in June and were upgraded to a Deluxe Lake View Double (which would normally be significantly more expensive — over £400 a night). Despite the “upgrade”, the room was old, tired, and in need of urgent refurbishment. We noticed cracked tiles on the bathroom floor, there were no digital TVs, and there was no air conditioning — which made it uncomfortable on warmer evenings. For that price point, this was very poor value for money and honestly quite shocking. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the lack of a concierge to assist with luggage was disappointing. The hotel does sit in a lovely quiet and tranquil location, ideal for anyone seeking peace and relaxation. Overall, we would happily return just for the dining experience, but we would not book the accommodation again at these rates. It’s a real shame — with the food this good, the hotel needs to raise its game to match its reputation.
We had a lovely evening dining in the Zaika restaurant. I had been wanting to try it for a while so my birthday seemed the perfect opportunity. Beautiful food in a beautiful setting. Service was fantastic, Pradip could not have been more helpful. His recommendation of the Malabar Paratha is now one of my favourite breads.
Booked afternoon tea as a special family treat and we weren't disappointed! The food was plentiful and something to suit everyone, lovely light scones and good hot tea! The waiters were friendly and attentive when we needed anything and the setting was comfortable and had a relaxed atmosphere. Thanks to the staff for looking after us! A memorable experience -recomended!!
Excellent staff service from the start to end of stay. Excellent dinners each night especially in Zaika, their on site Indian restaurant. Amazing food, highly recommend and adding to the experience was the attentive polite staff. Pradip who served us from breakfast to dinners was exceptional, Gautam in the bar serving us drinks and keeping us entertained. As well as Simona are just some of the staff that made the stay lovely.
We got married at Armathwaite Hall in June, and stayed at the hotel for two nights. From start to finish everything was perfect. The hotel and grounds are stunning, our room had awesome views over the lake and fells, the food was wonderful and every member of staff we encountered was friendly and helpful. We ate in the grill and the main restaurant, and had room service and we enjoyed every meal. The spa was clean, well equipped and relaxing and our post wedding massage was a great way to end the stay. Lynsey, the wedding coordinator, was a star. We had some last minute weather stress but everything was handled calmly and efficiently and the day couldn’t have gone any better. Armathwaite is the perfect place to get married, whatever the weather. The only downside was how quickly the two night stay went - however we very much hope to return!
What isn’t there to like, extremely dog friendly, stunning exterior and grounds, breathtaking views of the lake and mountains, fantastic food, amazingly tranquil spa and well equipped home from home room. Happy, accommodating staff.
Nothing, but it would have been lovely to be given the opportunity of an offer or discount if you stayed longer. We tried to and there was no incentive, only a change of room (down grade) which we didn’t want to do. We would have definitely spent more in the spa and restaurant/bar if we had stayed longer.
My brother asked for an afternoon tea for his birthday and I chose Armathwaite Hall as the menu looked nice and I wanted somewhere with a view. I'm so pleased we chose here. The food was excellent (and excellent value), the staff were all thoroughly lovely, with nothing too much trouble. They gave us a table in a quiet area of the dining room, with a brilliant view. I'm so happy I chose here!
Location was stunning. Quiet and a wonderful view of the lake. Courteous staff and a very nice atmosphere.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What an unbelievable experience. This was genuinely a 10/10 stay and exceeded all expectations. From the moment we arrived, everything about Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa felt special. The hotel itself is beautiful, the surroundings are stunning, and the atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing. We came away for a weekend escape and left feeling completely refreshed. The spa facilities were exceptional and the highlight of the trip. Everything was spotless, well maintained and designed to help you switch off and relax. After a busy few months, I honestly feel like I arrived as one person and left as a new one. The staff throughout the hotel were professional, friendly and attentive without ever being intrusive. Nothing felt rushed and we were made to feel welcome from start to finish. This was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had and we will definitely be returning. Thank you to everyone at Armathwaite Hall for making our weekend so memorable.
Access to the spa
We stayed in a Garden Room and had a fantastic stay. The room was spotless, beautifully done and had everything we needed with the perfect amount of space. Every member of staff was welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us throughout our visit. Dinner in the steakhouse was genuinely excellent and far exceeded our expectations for hotel dining. The views are stunning, the gardens are pristine, and the lakeside walkway was perfect for walking the dogs. Our only criticism is that the main hotel now feels slightly dated compared to the newer Garden Rooms. A refresh of the main areas would bring the whole experience in line with the standard of the newer accommodation and would definitely encourage us to return given the price point.
Spa was fabulous, best I’ve been in for a while
Perfect weekend away; atmospheric, beautiful venue in a stunning setting overlooking the lake. The hotel feels luxurious yet relaxed, and the spa facilities were excellent. A special highlight being Guru and his faultless hospitality at the Grill restaurant. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely warm service that made the evening feel really memorable. The whole experience felt calm, high quality, and exactly what we were hoping for. We’ll definitely be returning.
Peaceful , clean and tasteful.
Had an amazing stay here with my now fiancée. Huge shout-out to Joe who made us feel immediately at home and was always on hand, Alwin who gave us brilliant recommendations and good chat at dinner and Rebecca at reception who was very helpful and gave us good directions for a lovely walk on Sale Fell. We will definitely return to this wonderful place. The grounds are stunning, as are the rooms, and you can easily walk down to Bassenthwaite. It's very romantic. Looking forward revisiting. Thanks for making our stay so special guys!
The room was amazing having been kindly upgraded for our honeymoon. We ate in all three restaurants and they were all excellent - our personal favourite was the Indian restaurant. The breakfasts too were were very good. The spa was fabulous - I had a massage and Lin a facial and we both enjoyed them and the quiet room afterwards. The grounds and the views are spectacular and having the Wild Life park so close was a lovely bonus. The staff were all incredibly helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We had a thoroughly enjoyable few days there and would love to return one day.
Can't think of anything.
Fabulous stay… peace and perfection.. Food and ambience amazing. Beautiful grounds even the weather was kind .. Hopefully be back soon ..
Hello. This was our 6th visit, we absolutely love the place. It has had incremental improvements since we have been going across restaurants, spa, service, food. It is beyond amazing. From check in which has improved with an unnecessary escort to the room, but I'm not complaining 😁 a nice extra touch. The Spa is very peaceful, it is never too busy, very relaxing and has new seating outside and extra inside. The restaurants and the service and staff are a credit to the place. A passion for what they do. I recommend the Fire Wheel - Twist on an Old Fasioned and created by a guy who works there. The staff really make the place special. Keep up the good work 👏
This hotel was the country house room of my dreams. Our beautiful double room was facing the lake with long windows, a turret balcony, a great bed, lovely shower and bath, and a sweet little sitting area. We had great breakfasts and dinner in the Dining Room with pleasant, charming service. Staff were very helpful with all we needed. We enjoyed walking all around the grounds. We only knew there was a wedding when we saw the bride having her photo taken, because the wedding venue is out of earshot of the main house and dining rooms. The view is even more beautiful in reality than in the photos. We did not have a car, so we caught a local (double-decker) bus into Keswick for the day -- a 20 minute ride or so. Traffic in Keswick was terrible on a Saturday, so we were glad we took the bus. We walked to the pier and booked a seat on the boat around the lake, got out halfway around, walked a mile or so to the Grange for lunch and took the boat back. (When you return on the bus from Keswick, be sure to push the 'Stop" button as you approach the Armathwaite stop -- or the bus will not stop!) ' The front desk called us a cab (a day in advance) to take us to the train station in Penrith -- about £75 -- and we were back in London in 4 hours. Perfect. A truly outstanding place for a fantastic weekend (or week). Highest recommendation.
Brilliant stay , everything was spot on and more . Our bedroom and all the public areas were immaculate. All the staff were excellent, customer service was top notch. The Hotel is set in the most beautiful well attended grounds . The Spa was lovely, a pool that you actually do lengths in , a fab large outdoor hot tub that could accommodate plenty of people with plenty of room , various steam rooms and a large hydro pool . Food was excellent our favourite was the Indian restaurant, best curry we have tasted in ages. We would so recommend this fabulous hotel and certainly will be back for another excellent stay . Thank you Armathwaite and all the staff :) .
Stunning house and grounds professional tentative staff couldn’t do enough for you Service was wonderful The after cream tea with champagne was so lovely and you can request either more sweet or savoury to suit Just one issue we didn’t see saffi her majesty the Armthwaite kitty cat May be next time
A fantastic stay in an amazing hotel. Located on Bassenthwaite Lake, amazing grounds, great room and service from all the staff. The spa is lovely and has everything you need to relax and unwind after a long walk.
This was our fourth visit to Armathwaite Hall and it was as wonderful as always. We had only been in Winter before this stay so it was so nice to be able to sit outside in the sun, have a drink and enjoy the peace and lovely views. We had dinner in The Grill which is really nice and relaxing and the staff were so friendly, attentive and we really enjoyed their company. We were served by Giuru, Brandon and Vasi and I hope our thanks and gratitude are passed on to them for such great service.

We've just spent 2 wonderful nights here in a garden suite. The hotel is beautiful, stylishly decorated and our room exceptional. There were blankets for lounging on the sofa & comfortable chairs for our balcony space. The grounds were perfect for little walks with our elderly dog & peaceful to enjoy. The staff made the hotel something special, every single person had pleasant conversation, couldn't do enough for us & were exceptionally kind to our dog. Food & drinks were great, particularly the Grill restaurant & the afternoon tea. The spa is very good, all the facilities you need and plenty of seating for lounging. I had a head spa treatment which was very relaxing. All in all we cannot recommend a stat here enough, the views and atmosphere make for a very special stay. Thank you to all the staff.
Amazing setting and very comfy bed.
Some of the tiling etc. Was a little tired around the spa indoor hot tub, I am splitting hairs to some extent but this would be even more perfect if this was re-done.
Everything, Location, Excellent food, spa facilities, exceptionally clean, beautiful room.
Fantastic location, great suite and spa.
Breakfast quality really poor.
Yet again, another fabulous Sunday lunch, lovely to see Aleseigh, who always has a smile and conversation with us. Also the attentive restaurant staff and the amazing 3 course meal. Again, Armathwaite Hallyou has excelled.
The room was fantastic, the first time we have stayed in the 'new' section, but The Loft room was a treat. The spa was excellent, the staff were friendly and attentive without being over zealous. Overall the hotel was magnificent, a perfect way to celebrate a 'big' birthday, and we will certainly be returning soon.
I can't think of one thing. Sorry!
We held our wedding party at Armathwaite Hall and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish. The location is stunning and provided such a beautiful setting for our celebration. Many of our guests commented on how lovely the venue and surrounding grounds were, and it really made the day feel special. The food was exceptional and received so many compliments from our guests. Everything was delicious, beautifully presented, and clearly prepared with great care. It was a real highlight of the day. A special thank you also has to go to Lynsey our wedding co-ordinator, who was fantastic to work with throughout the planning process and on the day itself. She was incredibly helpful, organised and supportive, and made everything feel effortless. Having someone so experienced and attentive coordinating things made a huge difference and allowed us to relax and enjoy the celebration. Armathwaite Hall is a truly wonderful place for a wedding or special event and we feel very lucky to have celebrated there. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful venue with fantastic food and a brilliant team.
Fantastic meal out with my wife for her pre-60th birthday party, and the staff and meal were excellent.
Garden suite room was excellent, food at all restaurants was top notch. Spa was fantastic experience and thoroughly enjoyable. Bar areas and lounges for sitting and relaxing were all lovely
Gorgeous place for a special occasion short stay. Great clean rooms, tasty food, beautiful grounds and relaxing spa 🧖♀️ all staff were attentive and polite. I will definitely be back for another visit
Our last visit was in 2018. This time we booked a studio suite, and had room 135 which was large, comfortable and clean with an excellent bathroom. The views from the room were amazing. We ate in the Grill on the first night and would say it was ok, nothing special. We then had 2 nights in the main dining room which was outstanding. The staff throughout the hotel were helpful and professional. Special mention for the staff in the main bar and Lake View dining room. Overall a superb stay and we hope to return next year.
This was my third visit to this outstanding hotel. The building itself is historic and beautiful. We stayed in one of the garden suites with a patio area and gorgeous views down to the lake. Four things make this hotel really special - 1. The setting, looking down over Bassenthwaite Lake, is simply stunning. 2. The quality and variety of food available at all three restaurants is outstanding. The Indian restaurant, Zaika, is new and an excellent addition to culinary options at Armathwaite. 3. The spa area is lovely. Unlike many Lakeland hotels, there is no need to pay extra or book ahead to use the general spa facilities, as long as you are a resident (treatments generally need to be booked in advance). The outdoor heated bubble pool with views over the fells, woods and the lake is an outstanding feature of the spa. 4. The staff, without exception, are a credit to the hotel and make every stay feel special.
The room was fabulous, clean and very comfortable; The food was amazing - portions small, but filling. The spa is stunning - one of the best massage treatments I've ever had. Dog friendly too. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful.
Food portion sizes not great - breakfast in particular. We ate at the Indian restaurant, again, food portions were disappointing, considering the cost of the meals.
This is our 3rd time we have come to Armathwaite Hall, it is our 'go to' if you are looking for relaxation, top class customer service and a real treat! We were pleased to see they have a new Indian Restaurant which was recommended to us by reception staff on our arrival. The reception is always warm, friendly and they really set the tone for the stay - professional, courteous and nothing is too much trouble. The reception staff are really helpful and engage with guests - we were always greeted with pleasantries and they had good local knowledge of the area. Our room was superb - clean, warm and well stocked. The room had tea/coffee making facilities, bottled water and other small treats. I was glad to see the room contained an iron and ironing board too. The food is excellent, although I was sad to see Pizza was not on the menu at the grill - I loved a pizza at lunch time when I previously stayed! The food in the grill is excellent and there is a lovely Asian staff member who is front of house and really looks after you. I had the best ever curry in my life at the Indian Restaurant. I think this will explode as a curry venue, the food is amazing. Make staff member (Alwid) really looked after us - such a lovely man, humourous, polite and just excelled at customer service. All the fellow guests we spoke to commented on the quality of the food and ambience of the place. We stayed 3 nights and we will be booking again in May for another 2 nights as a birthday treat. I just wish I didn't have to travel 2 hours to get there from Lancashire! Thank you Armathwaite, we had a lovely mini-moon and everything was perfect.
From the moment we drove up the sweeping entrance, the historic Armathwaite Hall took our breath away. Its grandeur and sense of history set the perfect tone for what became an unforgettable stay. Outstanding Staff & Service - Every member of the team was warm, welcoming, and professional, but a special mention must go to Alwin in the restaurants. His kindness, attention to detail, humoue and genuine care made every dining experience feel special. He is an absolute credit to the Hall. Fantastic Dining Options - We loved having three restaurants to choose from, each offering something different. No matter where we ate, the food was exceptional and the service faultless. Every meal felt beautifully prepared and thoughtfully presented. Incredible Spa Experience - The spa facilities were stunning, and having unlimited access was a real luxury. Relaxing in the outdoor hydrotherapy pool while taking in the spectacular views of the fells was a highlight of our trip. Beautiful Grounds & Garden Suite - The grounds are simply gorgeous. We enjoyed wandering through the gardens and taking the peaceful walk down to the lake. Our Garden Suite was beautifully designed, spacious, and incredibly comfortable — clearly created with relaxation in mind. Bonus: Wildlife Park Next Door Just a five‑minute walk away is the fabulous Lake District Wildlife Park, which is absolutely worth a visit and added a lovely extra dimension to our stay. Overall, Armathwaite Hall & Spa combines historic charm, exceptional service, outstanding dining, and world‑class spa facilities in one breathtaking setting. We left feeling relaxed, cared for, and already planning our return. We can't thank you enough for making my birthday trip so beautiful.
The food was delicious well portioned and nicely presented. Guru and his team were friendly, welcoming and efficient. Balanced the attention we needed with time to enjoy the food.
Beautiful location, gorgeous hotel and love the hotel cat . The facilities are superb and the food is delicious. Highly recommend.
Nothin
There are three resturants within the hotel, a bistro, Fine dinning and Indian. They are all good in their own way. Bistro is laid back, good food selection and service. The fine dining says it all. The Indian, Zaika was very good. We had mild curries so food flavour wasn't over powered by spiciness. The food was well presented and flavoursome. We aren't Indian food conisours but we thought the food was exceptional along with the service by Alwis and his team. The bar area is set over a number of rooms eith open fires. Good selection of drinks. Drinks came with nuts & olives. The hotel is old worldly and an exceptionally quiet spot with great views. Our room, No. 137 was well sized with shower, sunken bath, a deck and great views over the lake to the mountains. Breakfast was included and had a good selection of food. The kippers were great.
Fabulous hotel and spa, highly recommend. The staff, facilities and location are superb. The food is excellent.
We went to the new Indian restaurant Zaika. The food was very good and we were able to have ours mild which made it perfect for us. The 2 desserts we picked were something we had never had before and were both excellent. Emily was very efficient and friendly throughout the evening. The room has been tastefully decorated while still keeping the Armathwaite feel.
The location, ambiance, staff - a beautiful well run stately home. The spa was superb - one of the best I have ever been in. Loved the outside pool. Lovely relaxing facial from therapist Timmi.
Nothing, really. A perfect stay
I had a fantastic experience .The food was absolutely delicious and truly authentic Indian cuisine- the king prwan moilee is amazing. The service was excellent a big thank you to Alwin, Teena, and Chef Albin for making me feel at home. Their hospitality really made my visit special. I thoroughly enjoyed everything and would definitely recommend this place.
Today we had the pleasure of dining at the Indian-inspired restaurant at Amrawaithe Hotel & Spa, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Alwin, whose genuine hospitality set the tone for the entire evening. Each dish beautifully presented and bursting with authentic, rich flavors - Prawn Moilee was truly delicious with coconut milk. A special mention to Chef Albin , whose attention to detail and passion for Indian cuisine. Teena, our server, was attentive without being intrusive, offering thoughtful recommendations that elevated our meal even further in a relaxing and luxurious ambience. I ll definitely be returning !!!
Luxury 3 night stay. Beautiful historic building. The spa is brilliant. Very large so plenty space for all visitors in the pool, jacuzzis, salt room, sauna etc. Outside pool is now much larger and views are amazing. Hotel exceptionally clean and room cleaned and everything replenished daily- room 164 is fabulous! All staff are so friendly and helpful which is great as travelled with my elderly mother- who visits regularly as place and staff exceptional. Extra praise for Joanne who always looks after my mum and newer member Kez as they are huge assets to the place and really make your stay more special and luxurious. We will be back. In fact my mum has booked in next month. Hugely recommend this place to stay or for food.
The old part of the hotel is a magnificent building steeped in history and views that are amazing.
The only poor observation I could say about our stay is the toast at breakfast was always cold and bread was poor quality. Maybe if they had a toaster near the buffet section for people to do there own would be a better option.
Great atmosphere & tasty authentic food at Zaika Indian restaurant. Service was excellent, nice & relaxed - no rushing. Alwin was very helpful & professional.
Everything
The cat poo on the stairs from the resident cat.
Fantastic experience in zaika, brilliant food and brilliant service from Alwin! We will definitely be back The butter naan is incredible, we have been looking for some this good since visiting India
Enjoyed a relaxing break here in a beautiful garden room overlooking the gardens. Staff are very helpful and there is a lovely spa. We particularly loved the new Indian restaurant Zaika and the excellent friendly service from Alwin and colleagues
