We spent some time here this weekend, and the experience was simply unforgettable. Some places have a special atmosphere from the very first moment, and this is undoubtedly one of them. The building itself is breathtaking. Every corner, every material, and every detail has been thoughtfully preserved and beautifully presented. Walking through it feels like stepping back in time, while still enjoying an atmosphere of elegance, comfort, and timeless charm. A special mention goes to Javier. His hospitality was exceptional—warm, genuine, and attentive. You can immediately tell how passionate he is about this remarkable place, and he makes every visitor feel truly welcome. That kind of authentic hospitality is becoming increasingly rare. What impressed me most was the sense of peace the entire place radiates. It invites you to slow down, disconnect from the outside world, and simply enjoy the moment. It offers a refined, understated sense of luxury—sophisticated yet relaxed, with incredible character. There are beautiful places, and then there are places that stay with you long after you’ve left. This is definitely one of them. A truly memorable experience, and a place I would recommend without hesitation to anyone looking to discover something genuinely extraordinary.
Amazing experience to stay in such a beautiful building. Sure it’s a bit shabby chic and yes there wasn’t any storage space in our room as the cupboard was taken up with an old duvet, but has bags of character and we found the owner and receptionist both to be charming people. There was lots of variety provided on our breakfast but little protein and no hot items. No matter, we didn’t have it the next morning. We loved LaGuardia and it felt like a real privilege to stay in the most impressive building in town.
Beautiful historic building, well located. Friendly staff.
Location, building, room
No staff on site. More like an air bnb. Terrace not open
Recomendado 100 x 100.
Lovely room. Beautiful Hotel. Close to the centre.
We liked the character of the hotel and the location of Laguardia
The hotel offered a dinner with wine pairing which we booked well ahead of our stay which was confirmed by reception when we checked in. However the restaurant weren’t aware of the reservation but fortunately were still able to deliver this. Difficulty accessing the hotel with suitcases as it’s a distance from the car park and lots of steps in and out of the hotel so we suggest you take a day pack if you’re only there for 1 night
Nice room with space and large en suite nice views
Facilities advertised were not available. No bar, no restaurant, no staff. Didn’t accept Amex despite advertising that they did. Parking was a long distance from hotel and getting luggage to the room was a major problem. Complained to the management but only received a polite apology. Should have received a major discount or compensation. Very poor. - not a place I would stay again.
Außergewöhnlich. Absolute Empfehlung .
😊
Camera molto bella e comoda.
You should avoid this place. We were gourmet breakfast. It was minuscule. The rooms are barely adequate. There is no place to hang wet towels.
Locatie geweldig.
Hotel in an amazing location and building. BUT BEWARE despite welcoming emails before we arrived detailing special wine pairing menus and a bar with tapas - everything was closed We were travelling in the height of the holiday season (August) and at no point were restricted days or times indicated in advanced Great disappointment
Location
The staff , the woman at the front desk.
Great location. Cool castle
All good
Mooi historisch gebouw in de oude stad
Un hotel muy especial, El Castillo en El Collado. No sé puede pedir más. Habitación muy amplia, la cama excelente, volveremos!
EL TRATO DE LA PERSONA QUE NOS ATENDIÓ FUÉ MUY MUY BUENO. GRACIAS POR VUESTRA DISPOSICION PARA AYUDAR A LOS QUE NOS ALOJAMOS.
Views from the town.
We had requested dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, but we were recommended to try the other restaurants in town. We had also requested the hotel to arrange for us a tour of the Midevil Wine Caverns, but we were just given info to make the contact ourselves.
Excellent location, views from the tower!
Room was comfortable but a bit tired and lighting was poor. Breakfasts were limited but OK except on the last morning when a couple of things we had the previous 2 mornings were absent - fresh melon & croissants and the coffee was luke warm.
Fine building in fascinating walled town. Welcoming and helpful staff
Breakfast was moderate for the price. Parking is a problem at busy times. There is no easy close place to drop off luggage. Probably not a good place for anyone with restricted mobility
Beautiful unique room. Beautiful position and spotlessly clean
Nothing. Fortunately we were parked in the free car park nearby of getting our bags up might have been an issue
Wonderful location and charming hotel which was full of character.
Awkward parking
Beautiful hotel in an excellent location on the edge of Laguardia
Room was quite dark (very little natural light) and bed was uncomfy
Everything!
Nothing!
The hotel is in an old castle, at the edge of the walled city and very charming. The rooms were nice with a good view of the valley. Because it is in an old castle it has many interesting spaces, includind a tower you can climb to see a 360 view of the town and surroundings
The staff was a little curt. But never enough to bother us.
Hotel was beautiful. Staff and facilities were ok. One girl very helpful.
Breakfast was ok, no hot water for tea and food left uncovered. No terrace as per photos. Didn't live up to expectations or price.
Loved the building and its history. Our room had a huge spa bath. Continental Breakfast was a nice good choice.
The room had no water, which I thought was quite strange! had to find a local shop to buy water for the room, after a treck up to the hotel as there was no parking near the hotel.
Nothing really .Especially the relationship between quality and value !
You are obliged to park well away form the hotel and lug cases up many flights of steps . There is no help offered . And the hotel has no lift. The welcome was appalling , just two young surly women who basically told us nothing . The rooms are pretentious and uncomfortable and a bit grubby in parts . The air conditioning was either too feirce or not at all . Worst of all was breakfast which was truly the worst we have ever had in a hotel . Coffee undrinkable , margarine not butter and fruit and yogurt which we noticed had been lying out on the table since the day before . Really poor ! The hotel is seriously over priced . Other reviewers have waxed lyrical about the owner and his charm . We saw no evidence of charm of any description . A truly unpleasant experience.
Beautiful little hotel in the small town of Laguardia in the wine region. Quiet in May. Near wineries and fun to explore adjacent old town area.
The restaurant in the hotel was closed on Sunday and Monday. Limited choices for finding breakfast and dinner. Did find one good restaurant nearby.
Get to stay in a real castle - how could we resist!
All great
The room was good and clean but the breakfast was very poor with old Bread from the day before and the receptionist was very, very rude to us. We got our money back for this breakfast but this lady of the desk stayed rude to us. And the day after we decided to left this hotel (we had still one day to go in this hotel) and again we had to do with this very rude lady. Laguardia is a very beautiful Place but this hotel is a No go for us.
Charming property, comfortable large room, sort of shabby chic, acceptable bike storage.
Meager breakfast, bed sagged a bit (Room 7) tons of steps all over and it would not be good for those with mobility issues, some staff were very nice, some not so much. Restaurant not particularly recommended. We ate dinner there and staff was nice and food acceptable but not great, and we were the only diners and there are more interesting places in the old town.
This hotel is under new management and the pictures are not representative of the current situation. There is no restaurant or wine bar yet. The terrace has plastic tables and chairs and not the lovely patio furniture depicted in the photos on their website and on Expedia. Those pics are from the past. It’s not as elegant as the pictures make it appear. Be aware that parking is off site, down some stairs and across a street. If you have mobility challenges, do not stay here.
Traditional and charming
Lots of steps. Dogs confined to room and nowhere to let them off lead.
Lovely old castle, cosy room, nice views and walks around the area!
Need to use the public car park below but there are usually spaces !
Nice clean rooms. Friendly staff. Make sure to go up the tower for a good view of the surrounding area.
Parking is on the street or in local parking lots. You will have to drag your bags uphill.
The room, the hotel and all the furnishings were great. We had excellent personal service from the staff, and a good breakfast The location was great
Hotel Castillo El Collado was a great place to stay while visiting Laguardia. The room was clean and the staff very friendly and helpful.
More bed pillows would have been nice.
The hotel is very cute and staff were super friendly. They helped arrange taxis and reservations for us.
We loved our stay at Hotel Castillo El Collado! Javier was an exceptional host; one of the classic hoteliers with a lifetime of refined & attentive service to his guests. The castle is located in the beautiful old walled city of Laguardia with breathtaking views of the surrounding vineyards & mountains We loved the delicious breakfast Javier prepared each morning for us in the elegant dining room and we loved the beautiful historic features in this centuries old stone castle! This was a fantastic place to stay in the medieval walled city of LaGuardia! Definitely a highlight of our trip! Javier made it extra special for us! He was welcoming & generously shared his deep knowledge about the castle & the area throughout our 4-day stay.
We loved everything about our stay here- a fantastic place to stay in beautiful LaGuardia!
We stayed 2 nights here for wine tastings in the area and really loved the place. It's such a unique property and the inn keeper is super nice. food was good as well.
The staff, the location, and it is a castle!
Nothing
Javier was an exceptional host, showing incredible hospitality and kindness. He truly cared about our entire experience in Laguardia and the surrounding area. The hotel was comfortable, clean, and in an excellent location. Say yes if he asks about making breakfast.
The castle dates back 200 years. Javier, the owner is the descendant of the family, therefore, he is royalty. He serves the guest of the hotel with grace, attentiveness, and warm hospitality making you feel like you are royalty instead. The rooms are very unique and comfortable. The restaurant attached to the Castle is an added bonus, the ambiance, furnishing, luxury cave atmosphere, food, and service was excellent. The experience was very memorable for our visit to Laguardia. The location is very good to old town and you have a very nice view.
Excellent hotel with great staff.
Breakfast
We have visited the property around 10 years ago, when you were allowed to park you car a little nearer to the hotel to empty your luggage. Now that can’t be done. If you arrive during the early afternoon parking is a challenge, you will have to carry it a fair distance either way. Once you do arrive, the welcome from who we believe is the owner, is second to none, glass of wine, water and biscuits were offered, and he even moved us to the tower room on the second night. The rooms are as far away from corporate jelly moulds as you can get, enjoy the experience, and if he offers you breakfast take the offer up.
Beds are a little too soft, and no mattress protector
Gorgeous property. Javier is the kindest host. Very helpful and informative. This property is a must if you are staying in LaGuardia
The room was very spacious and comfortable. Blue tile floors and two double beds. Great breakfast. And ask to be let up to the tower! Wonderful view of the whole region.
While it was quaint that that beds were on an elevated platform, I was afraid I might trip at night.
very helpful gentleman in charge, so happy he suggested that I walk up to the tower. Comfortable room/beds.
parking difficult...
We stayed in September and instantly fell in love with the village, the hotel, and the host. Javier made us feel like royalty throughout our entire stay. The castle is absolutely stunning, and the rooms are tasteful and beautiful. The bar and terrace are a delightful bonus, and we simply didn't want to leave! I am looking forward to returning to this hotel. It's a gem.
We hit a home run with this property! First and foremost, we have to acknowledge Javier who worked tirelessly to assist us during our stay. Honestly one of the nicest individuals we met during our two weeks travelling in Spain. Add in the accommodations are really unique and add to the ambiance of Laguardia.
The warm welcome and hospitality of the owner, beautiful, historic house with stunning views, delicious breakfast… everything was wonderful.
This hotel is literally a small castle with gorgeous decor throughout and beautiful large guest rooms. You can walk up the turret and see amazing views. The super attentive owner, Javier welcomed us with local wine and served up an outstanding breakfast. He helped us with every need and suggested places to visit and arranged a private wine tour in town. It was the best way to be emerged in a small, beautiful medieval town.
Javier the host is an old school gentleman. We had a lovely stay in an amazing location
Javier is the real deal, folks! Perfect host, very interesting guy and runs a wonderful establishment.
Perfect setting, our room looked out to the Rioja vines & mountains. Quirky & interesting decor throughout. Climb up to the tower well worth the effort. Javier looked after us so wonderfully we’ll …… brought a taster of wine to our room on arrival & a bottle of iced water. Went the extra mile to get my husband a doctor’s appointment, advised on vineyard visits, very kind & thoughtful. Breakfasts abundant & plenty fruit & choice. No complaints at all
Nothing
The room was very large with a balcony from which we had great views. The location within Laguardia was excellent for exploring the town and you could walk to several of the local Bodegas (Winery ) for wine tours . The breakfast was an excellent spread of fruit, meats , cheeses, juice, pastries, etc . Parking was close by and free - but may be difficult in peak season.
We really enjoyed our one night stay at this castle like hotel. The hotel owner was wonderful. After checkin he directed us to climb the hotel tour. It was a sunny clear day and he didn't want us to miss the impeccable view of the town and mountains. Don't skip the breakfast, and have an empty belly. It was incredible an I'm glad there was lots of fruit choices. The hotel location is perfect for visiting the town and local vineyards. Parking can be a bit tricky, so plan ahead. We packed a day pack rather than dragging our entire suitcases through the town. Staying at this old hotel was definitely a highlight of our trip.
Absolutely beautiful castle, very unique and special experience. Food very good and wonderful hospitality. Would highly recommend. Will definitely be returning.
Every part of our short stay, from start to finish, was delightful. Javier’s welcome and incredible personal touches throughout made this our most memorable and wonderful hotel stay ever. So many reasons why this place is special, but the incredible views from the tower, delicious breakfast spread, amazing decor and warm reception were some of the highlights. The restaurant dinner was some of the best food we enjoyed during our whole 10-day trip through Catalan and Basque areas. The family room was perfect for us with our two young ones as well. We are recommending this gem of a place to friends and family and would really love to return again one day.
Nothing at all
It was like going back to a time when manners and good service mattered. Breakfast was out of this world, a carafe of water was left in our room, and our host made us feel welcome and cherished. Thank you!
Leaving!!!
The owner, Javier, was absolutely amazing! He made our stay very special, the hotel is gorgeous, clean and very welcoming. I would highly recommend staying here, perfect location as well!
The greeting we received from our host, Javier, was so warmly welcome, authentic and delightful. Javier did everything he could to make our stay unforgettable. The property itself was exceptional. We were in awe of the castle, its position, beauty, its gorgeous furnishings. The level of comfort and attention to detail was first class. Our breakfast was wonderful, healthy and fulfilling, with every need taken into account. We could not recommend the Castillo more highly. It was the highlight of our holiday.
We could not fault this property. It was exceptional.
It’s a unique property with lots of charm. The service was excellent, Javier the owner made us feel so welcome. The room we stayed had amazing views. the whole experience staying at this castle was amazing. We strongly recommend this place in Laguardia!

Everything was great. The outstanding owner Javier and his staff were very welcoming and helpful. The location in the beautiful Laguardia is perfect for visiting e.g. wineries in the area. The room was unique with jacuzzi, sitting area and a fantadtic view over the surounding landscape. We enjoyed the breakfasts and the dinners in the restaurant very much.
