This is an extraordinary place. We loved our bungalow - it is hard to get closer to nature in a more fancy way than here! The whole concept is very nice and seems sustainable. Be aware that the location is kind of remote and you want to take the dinner at the hotel - which is very reasonably priced for 25$ and the offered quality. Also I recommend to take some of the offered tours and stuff to do! Everything is super clean and well maintained, staff is very attentive (especially the room service was exceptional). We also liked the social concept at dinner - you will be forced to socialize with other guests!
Value for money is definitely a bit questionable in comparison to other accommodations in Sri Lanka (but also probably not in luxury territory) and you also need to keep in mind that you are paying for a huge private plot and gardens that need to be maintained by a quite big team and is split among very few rooms.
Amazing place. Luxury in a remote place. Room. Stayed in a suite. Pool area. Spa, Food and Staff. Beautiful setting
Fantastic property with incredible pool and own waterfall. Very friendly staff which try to make the guests feel at home
The treehouses, pool and staff were beyond wonderful! The waterfall was beautiful, the spa and meals perfect and lastly Jelly (the dog) stole our hearts!
Nothing
Everything!
Nothing, all was perfect!
loved our stay very quiet and serene, percent place if you don't want to be in the busyness
The place is calm and quiet
Nothing,Everything was great
Todo muy bonito, la piscina es increíble!!
Quel endroit magique !
Tree house was amazing being in rain forest canopy. Swimming pool vista phenomenal
Be aware that in rainy season there will be leeches on the nature walks but the staff are very good at helping you prepare. There are leech socks in the rooms and they provide you with salt water and sanitizer when going on nature walks so it didn’t affect stay and was worth it to be living with nature but something to be aware of when booking.
Everything. Literally a little haven.
This is our second time at this wonderful place! Everything is perfect! The scenery, the rooms, the service are beyond praise, and the food is delicious!
Everything about Living Heritage Koslanda is exceptional. The location is stunning the location of every element of the hotel - where the rooms are the view from each room, where you dine, where the swimming pool is- has been thought about with incredible care. The manager Karim is on hand to provide hints and tips about how to get the best from your stay and his staff go about their work with great care and attention.
Nothing. Faultless
Wonderful spa. Best yoga class early in the morning with amazing view.
As outlined. A fabulous getaway in the hills not far from Ella. It will not disappoint.

Living Heritage Koslanda is in a beautiful location. It really does feel like you are off the beaten track. The grounds are stunning - the pool is large and so peaceful, and so fantastic to have the walk to the waterfall on the grounds (just remember to wear the provided leech socks!!). We had a massage in the spa and our masseuse was excellent. We did yoga in the morning which was brilliant, so peaceful and lovely. The food in the evening was really nice too and waiters were kind and friendly. The hotel has two dogs, Tom and Jerry, who were absolutely wonderful companions on our walks round the grounds! A brilliant place to unwind. The hotel also put on a hike for us on our request, and the hike through tea country was gorgeous with a fab guide. Cocktail hour was also a lovely touch to meet other guests with a delicious cocktail and some nibbles. On valentine's day we were also presented with some flowers and the staff members wished us a happy valentine's day which was lovely!
We stayed in Pepper tree cottage, which was next to the entrance gate. It was a lovely set up but we noticed some stains and marks on our towels and bed sheets so definitely think these need upgrading. We also felt that a mirror and more hooks in the room would be beneficial. Additionally, a map is provided in the room but this did not show the full directions to the hike to the waterfall which would have been useful. There was also information provided in the welcome book which had incorrect info on there, for example it said yoga started at 7.30 but it starts later in the day around 9, so this needs updating. We also felt the breakfast was disappointing - there was not a great selection of food, and one morning no coffee was available. We also felt there could be some improvements to how the activities are advertised - it's not always clear what's on each day and also note that cash is preferred which was not voiced to us before our stay. Choosing the dinner menu was also very strange - you had to rely on a member of staff finding you during the day to show you the menu for that evening, and then choosing from the menu from there. A few times we had to call reception to ask about dinner as we had not been approached and were close to cut off times for food selection. Why not have the dinner menu options presented to guests at breakfast, or left in their room after turndown? Or write options on the chalk board by reception? We also felt towels for the pool could be provided at the pool site as it's quite a walk to the pool from the room.
What a wonderful time at Living Heritage. The property is beautiful and very well maintained. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I was lucky enough to overlap a couple nights when the owner was there and you can tell this is her passion. She cares about sustainability and giving back to the community her hotel is a part of. I highly recommended this place if you’re looking for a peaceful place for a couple nights away from a busy town.
Everything was great. If you’re staying for a few nights, and want to explore nature, they have lots of options but make sure you’re clear on what you want to do. They will help organize it all.
Peaceful hill setting on its own estate
Nice quiet hotel totally in the nature. Also amazing dinner with different choices every evening. We stayed in the pepper cottage and it was big enough for 2 people with outdoor terrace.
Good location and walks around the 80 acre estate. Fabulous infinity pool with awesome views.
Tries hard to be a 5* eco property and the intent is clear but it just doesn’t work. Leaking toilet, cold water for showers, multiple guests (including us) seemed to get food poisoning, bedding and towels are tired, service is inconsistent and requires a separate mobile phone to be carried although connectivity is patchy!
The pool
I didn’t pay attention when booking that there was no walls in the room
Amazing place to stay. We had a night in a forest pavilion and it was a very special experience - would have loved to stay longer Food was excellent and staff great Highly recommend

Stunning views, fantastic staff
WiFi connection was intermittent
The grounds of the hotel, the pool, and the location are amazing and beautiful. We also really liked the pre-dinner moments when all the guests would gather in this picturesque, outdoor lounge area for a drink, and everyone would chat and share their experiences. It felt authentic and different. Johnson was really kind and helpful and booked us an amazing guided hike, same-day, through charming villages, tea plantations and up to the top of upper Diyaluma falls for a refreshing swim in the waterfall rock pools! Was definitely a highlight! It's a relaxing and beautiful stay with a bit of luxury.
For the price we paid, we felt that the rooms (we stayed in one of the villas) could have been a bit cleaner. We stayed in several other jungle/nature locations where you can expect to find insects etc for a quarter of the price and they were cleaner. We also felt that even though the rooms were very nicely decorated, they were a bit impractical e.g. massive room and living area but just a tiny cupboard for hanging clothes and no shelves. Additionally, for such a beautiful setting, it was a shame that the rooms didn't have any actual glass windows where we could enjoy the views - for privacy or at night to keep creatures out, we had to shutter everything closed and be in the dark with no natural light. Lastly, compared to everywhere else we stayed on our trip, we found the breakfast a bit disappointing.
Most peaceful place So nice people
Great staff, good eye for detail and lovely food. Amazing pool and waterfall. Nature walk was good too with very knowledgable guide.
Lovely swimming pool with amazing views. Amazing setting in a beautiful private estate with a private waterfall. Staff were all very friendly. Beds were extremely comfortable and the Forrest pavilion is a particularly cool and unique experience in the jungle surrounded by wildlife.
The food was good, but was not exemplary for this type of hotel in an isolated setting with no alternatives available - However this did not take away from the amazing stay we had at this hotel hence we had our 9/10 rating
Overall fantastic. Beautiful place to wake up in Christmas day. Stunning location and views.
Had hoped for better food.
This place is so special - honestly one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. The forest pavilion was outstanding, the staff was so thoughtful and caring, the food was delicious, the pool and the view were phenomenal. The massage with Lassanta was perfect - I went twice! Honestly I cannot recommend this place enough and hope it stays as beautiful, private and exceptional forever. We will definitely come back. Thank you Lucy!
An absolute gem in the middle of the jungle. We will do a proper google review and a video of our experience soon.
I cannot recommend Living Heritage Koslanda highly enough. It is a tranquil idyll in the most beautiful setting, surrounded by lush hills and a verdant landscape. It is incredibly peaceful, truly a place to switch off from the world, unwind, relax and get back to nature, albeit in quiet luxury. We had two interconnecting villa suites to accommodate us and our three teenage sons which was perfect. The suites are exquisitely designed and the flow of light and space is very special. The pool was wonderful and we had an amazing day exploring the grounds, visiting the estate’s own stunning waterfall and swimming in the pool beneath it - a very special experience to have all to yourselves. A great place to stay as a family with older children. The food was fantastic and the manager, Johnson, and his team were incredibly helpful organizing transfers etc for us. The owner, Lucy, is wonderful and hosts cocktails every evening where guests come together to share a drink and have a chat which is a lovely way to connect, hear about others travels and meet new people.
Nothing, I just wished we’d had time to stay for more than two nights!

The whole property and grounds are beautiful. The infinity pool is stunning with a lovely view down to the village. The restaurant food was fantastic both the Sri Lankan buffet and other menu choices. We loved the 7.30 cocktail with the other guests which brings an opportunity to meet the other guests as well as share experiences. We did 3 guided walks. One from Pilkington Point to Diyulama Falls and down to Koslanda village. We really enjoyed this, beautiful views and through the Poonagala estate. Second one to the waterfall on site for a swim. And third to the local village through the paddy fields, also really beautiful and interesting. Loved all of it. Johnston and his team are wonderful and will organise everything for you. All in all a truly wonderful stay. Thank you.
Nothing
We stayed in the forest pavilions with our teenagers. It was a fun experience close to nature but also high quality accommodation with all the touches you would expect covet in a luxury hotel. The infinity pool was beautiful and both the pavilions and pool area were very relaxing to be in. Johnson and his team were very attentive.
What a place... beautiful rooms, lovely staff and management, great food! Super chill.
Price for lodging is on the high side.
What a beautiful stay we had at Living Heritage Koslanda. Stunning property. Gorgeous accomodation in the jungle pavilions. Staff were amazing and welcoming. Highlight of the trip. Highly recommend.
It was a little tricky to swim at the bottom of the waterfall, but it was still a lovely walk to get there..
Beautiful surroundings and beautiful property fully immersed in nature Pool is gorgeous Staff are friendly and helpful Food very tasty
Open nature of villas means bugs and frogs can get in, can be a little noisy at night Food is not at local prices
The location truly is magical and the main reason really why we liked it! The food was okay although you should consider serving less as we were always conscious of the wastage. There was one young member of staff who was very helpful and great at what he does, he played with our son and helped us with any issues.
Unfortunately customer service was a let down for us, particularly at the price point per night. It was almost non existent aside from occasional check ins, but it wasn’t a check in with a ‘sorry we made an error on your dinner again last night’. Cooking class was a speedy cook and watch while writing down the steps, and other activities just weren’t pushed. You are sort of told what’s available but you have to really chase it to even find the people to ask. We also had booked at checking a cooking class for the following day, upon arrival for the class it had not been organised, so we lost time and the man who does the guided walks had already been booked, no mention from the manager who had agreed to the booking ok the first place. I think this place could be a 10/10 with better customer service.
This was a real treat. There were only 4 people in the entire resort at the time, since we came at the end of Easter vacation and the begining of the wet and shoulder season. The grounds are gorgeous, the garden, wonderful, the staff was very helpful and nice, and we had an upgrade that was not short of royal: I truly thought that we entered a several-room bungalow whereas it was our room! A room with a patio and a front and a side terrasses. Monkeys playing in the trees in the morning. The nature is very present and lush and beautiful. We went on a hike which we couldn't finish, since we've discovered a new species we had never met before: leeches. My daughter freaked! But it was an experience. She very much enjoyed the pool, overlooking the valley, and I booked an ayurvedic massage, which was the best I had in Sri Lanka. The man had very skilled hands. It is a place to get lost into, it feels last the days of yore, an estate to spend peaceful days. Unfortunately it wasn't our case, since we booked only a night, thereby shortening a safari that would have been (accurately so!) too long had we stayed an extra night. So it was an stop-by in between locations, booked a bit last-minute. Our next destination was Amba Estate, one of the few existing estates rolling tea by hand, with a social purpose since it has very good labor conditions and employs the villagers, thereby creating a strong community. I would recommend as well, it's not that far, on the other side of the mountain, hence "on the way" toward Ella, where we jumped on a train to our next adventures. Thank you again for having us and allowing such a beautiful stay. I also had the best cocktail and we both enjoyed our meals!
The service was exceptional with very caring and hardworking staff in both the front of house and the kitchen- the food was top class authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. The hotel is set in a truly beautiful setting, an amazing private place in the mountains to relax; it felt like a truly secluded paradise. Our nights in a forest pavilion room was an incredible experience, being woken up to the beautiful jungle views by monkeys outside the balcony was unforgettable
One night there was very noisy music form the next door hotel. The road to and from the property, especially to the east is very poor, it took almost 2 hours to drive from Ella, which we did not appreciate beforehand. The private waterfall is amazing but not easily accessible, I would only recommend the hike through the forest for fit adults. They charge additional 10% service on everything, including the room cost.
This place is like a retreat that allow to blend with the environment and decompress.
Exceptional location. Forrest pavilion amazing! Food v good
Leeches, but in the jungle so to be expected!
Beautiful setting tucked into nature with expansive grounds to explore. The staff were attentive but not overbearing. It felt like a beautiful little community of people staying there yet no one knew one another. Such a gem, highly recommend.
Nothing to mention, it was lovely.
The location is very beautiful.
This is a very overpriced accommodation. It has some great potential and the location is beautiful but for this price you might expect top service with some personal attention which they don’t offer. Also the food is nothing special. I would give a higher grade if the price would not be this crazy. Now it was mostly a disappointment to pay so much money and don’t receive the luxury and personal touch that you might expect.
Beautiful resort with good facilities, very helpful staff who seem to really care about your experience, very good food and drink, free cocktail to meet other guests was a nice touch. In walking distance of stunning waterfall.
Very relaxing stay in spacious pepper tree cottage, great pool and good food. Thoroughly enjoyed.
This is a luxury stay in a beautiful location. The tree houses were open to the elements so expect a few “visitors” but nothing to worry about. Food, pool, bird watching and some lawn sports were all fabulous. Couldn’t fault any of it.
Location, food and service.
A beautiful private and exclusive resort in a wonderful back to nature remote location. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and we were very well looked after. The resort organized a guided hike for us around the tea plantations to some stunning lookouts and the top of Sri Lanka’s 2nd highest waterfall: highly recommended
Nothing - all good!
Fantastic quiet spot to enjoy Koslanda area. Highly recommended if you're looking to unwind and enjoy the grounds. Staff, service, food, room, pool all great, only downside is drive time to wider activities (Ella/Lipton's Seat) make for long day trips.
This is a stunning property in a truly remarkable location
Nothing
Room in the jungle Warm welcome Help to organise activities Clean Responsiveness Pool Places around
Loved our stay here. The forest pavilion rooms offer a stunning view of the jungle and the infinity pool is lovely. The property is surrounded by pristine rainforest and teaming with birds and wildlife. We went for several walks with the resident nature guide, Madu, who is wonderful. Learned so much about the local community, plants and animals.
The food was good but not the best we have had in Sri Lanka.
The location, the staff, the food, proximity to Diyaluma Falls ! Monkeys coming in the room to say hello was fun!
Everything was great. Beautiful property, kind staff, amazing food. Highly recommend. Will definitely return in the future.
The location is really lovely, the pool is amazing. Staff is very friendly and the food is really good too.
I found the place lacking a bit of comfort for the price I was charged. Even though the concept was to kind of living outside a possibility to isolate the room from the insects during the night would be nice as it is a bit too much sometimes. And animals can get very loud during the night, I could not have a good night sleep during my stay.
The whole set-up is so well thought out. We particularly loved our forest room overlooking the jungle, the pool and our swim in the waterfall. The evening cocktail hour with the owner was also a lovely touch.
This is definitely a hotel for nature lovers. Lots of pesky monkeys and insects around (we personally enjoyed this part of it)
Living Heritage Koslanda is an extraordinary high-end eco property which redefines luxury travel. Nestled into a setting of high biodiversity and unadulterated nature, its culinary delights and excursion offerings are nicely paired with sublime but discreet service, quite likely one of the most extraordinary infinity pool views ever conceived (makes up for the short "hike" to reach it), and nothing but cocooning birdsong and other animal sounds -- especially in the mornings and evenings. Truly outer-worldly...
Small but worthwhile guest enhancements could be to - provide towels at the (somewhat remote) pool site; - highlight / emphasise all guest activities, including the early bird watching session (we missed); - ensure Google Maps has the precise location (finding the property (especially at night) is challenging...
Staff were so friendly and happy to help. Great information about the history of the property, the cooking course was fantastic and the massage was great! A beautiful place to relax. Food was exceptional
My partner got bitten by a leach. Part of living in the wild, and not a negative against the hotel! Nature is nature!
We stayed for 2 nights in one of the fabulous Forest Pavilions, which was very comfortable and definitely a unique experience. We slept very well surrounded by the jungle sounds, all the furnishings were of a high standard and all the smallest details were taken care of to enhance our stay. The pool area was lovely but unfortunately the spa area was closed otherwise we would have definitely booked a massage. It was particularly lovely to meet the owner over cocktails before dinner who was very informative and told us all about the history of the hotel. The food was also excellent and the staff very professional.
Beautiful property, the room was very nice also with good quality of food. On the other hand, the service can definitely be improved for a 5 stars hotel, such as massages for 2, welcoming message, taxi service. Too expensive for what it is, need some improvement but we had a great time there
Loved everything about our stay (September 2024)! The venue and our amazing forest room, the pool, the food, the very friendly staff, the little bonfire with the two other young couples and the private waterfall on the property where we had a swim in the morning, everything was perfect and one night was really too short!

What an amazing place! From the wonderful staff who were very welcoming and gave us a tour of the plantations, to the infinity pool with a lovely view, its own waterfall, and delicious food – everything was perfect. We stayed in the pavilions, where you feel fully immersed in nature. It was clean, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. We only wish we could have stayed longer!
