Because it was under the main house, there wasn’t much sun inside but it was still a lovely place to be. I would’ve happily stayed longer.

Reviewed Mar 19, 2026Beautiful garden, secluded and peaceful with shelter if needed. Just the sound of the tui and other birds. Bed was big and comfortable. It’s a studio flat effectively but well laid out with character and had everything we needed. Annie was a great host and friendly. 5 miles from Russell and very handy for the Opua ferry. Easy to find and easy parking. I would highly recommend as a base to explore the area as it’s an oasis to return to after a busy day!

Reviewed Jan 5, 2026Excellent studio under the house. Very private with patio sun chairs, table and sun umbrella. Shade trees all around with heaps of bird song. Small oven and cook top, was all we needed. Short trip into Russell for beautiful walk around town. Left via the ferry two minutes away at the bottom of the hill to Opua. Just might need some fly spray as we left the doors open into the evening and the mossies joined us. Not there during the day.

We loved everything about Aimeo cottage. It would’ve been lovely to have little extras available as in tissues, glad wrap, and olive oil. This did not affect our Stay in any way, just a suggestion.

It was also beautiful sitting outside on the patio, among all the flowers and trees on the property. These were populated by birds, so quite lovely. The place was extremely clean.

She went out of her way to help us figure out our plan for visiting the Bay of Islands. The apartment was very comfortable and clean with a well furnished kitchenette. The yard and gardens were beautiful. We highly recommend staying at Aimeo Cottage.

Reviewed Nov 28, 2023Aimeo Cottage is an absolutely beautiful place, the garden is magnificent. Annie is an amazing host and she is very friendly, chatty and helpful if you need anything. We found the accommodation very comfortable and enjoyable to stay in not only for the great facilities (we were able to cook our own meals in the kitchenette) but also because of the view every day - definitely at the top of the list for our NZ holiday. It’s only a short drive from Russell, which has all the shops and food outlets you need, and easy to access from the ferry (we drove straight on to the ferry both arriving and leaving, only a 10 minute crossing). Highly recommended!!

The only issue we really had was that being on the ground floor of the house I didn't realise how loud the footsteps upstairs would be on the deck. Next time I would choose the upstairs room. The bed was super comfortable and the shower had great pressure - you just had to watch the step out of the shower onto the floor.

Bed was comfortable and it was so quiet. Annie was incredibly hospitable. The bay boat tour was lovely. Hole in the rock was pretty exciting and swimming in the Bay was lovely.
