We had a great dinner and then English breakfast in the morning. Lovely staff looked after us very well.
Lovely pub, lovely room, lovely staff.
Great place to stay, room in little building at the back of a courtyard, clean, super quiet and really comfy bed. The food is fantastic and staff are welcoming and friendly 😀
Lovely building with some real history! Nice clean room, easy check in, breakfast very good and really impressed with the staff. Would definitely stay here again
Very welcoming. Room was lovely. Pleasantly surprised for the price
I booked 1 room through booking (dot Com) cheaper. Room was fantastic. The room through ‘hotels’ was not brilliant condition and some uncomfortable looking headboard stains. For the price I would have expected better. Hard to get too with road closures, basic amenities but lovely food in pub. Bfast was awesome but very very slow and came out at different times.
No coffee in room except decaf Dirty cup Tv remote battery not working so had to unplug tv Only one bedside light Room smelt damp
Great stay, accommodation and area lovely.
A great pub. Really lovely staff. Very quiet. Our onlly complaint would be that the toilet cistern was running all the time in our room. This had been mentioned in the guests feedback book but was still not sorted. What a waste of water.
Friendly and helpful staff. Good choices on the menu. Vegetarian friendly. Ample parking.
Excellent bed, shower and breakfast - would certainly stay again if in area.
Excellent stay again staff very welcoming room very comfortable and clean food excellent will stay again when down working again
Lovely staff. Very clean room. Tasty food. Bed was slightly creaky but not enough to put you off staying there again. Over all excellent
Staff were very friendly. On arrival we were shown to our room which was clean warm and comfortable. Stayed two nights as was due to visit Highclere Castle the following day. They also serve food which was ideal. This is a lovely rural pub with lots of character log fire oak beams etc would definitely recommend.
Very pleasant staff room was a bit basic but comfortable bed and dining was good
The Christmas feast was amazing, the room and pub was olde worlde cute and very comfortable, the staff were all lovely. Trivia was heaps of fun. Thanks Sharon, Kev and the rest of the amazing staff. See you all next year xx
Lovely place with great staff. Fully recommend
Nice food and freindly service. Room was ok but for superior excpexted better.
What a find. Friendly efficient staff. Food exceptional.
Used the venue as i was attending a wedding nearby. Easy to find, good parking and the staff were really helpful. The room was quite small but i havent got any complaints as it was just being used to sleep in, didnt need lots of space. Happy with the venue and would recommend.
Good food...friendly staff...Quiet location
Easy parking, nice big bed, spacious bedroom and bathroom, good breakfast, ideal place to stop over for Highclere Castle
Nice hotel with an excellent breakfast, nice open space for a drink lovely pub Thai food
A one night business trip. Very nice pub/hotel. Room was fine. Food was good.
Staff are fantastic
Lovely old pub. Staff very friendly. Comfortable rooms.
Comfy beds and nice breakfast. We had dinner here too and it was delicious, great gluten free and vegetarian options
Room a little tired but nice comfortable bed.Breakfast service was below standard, more staff were needed, but food was good.
We like being in the country and within areas of interest
A lovely hotel / pub that was very welcoming by staff. The food was traditional pub food and nice. The room we stayed in was basic but ok although the bathroom was tired and the floor could have been cleaner. But a comfy bed and a good size. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Once the rooms have had a refurb it will be a superb place to eat and stay. The staff were all very friendly, the pub nicely done. Would recommend.
A quiet and picturesque country pub with converted outhouses, around a gravelled yard - such as a former dairy, that provides the accommodations. Parking was easy and convenient like a motel. Room was spacious, clean and well presented, bed was comfortable. Breakfast was varied and well cooked with vegetarian and vegan options. Staff were friendly and helpful and I enjoyed my brief two night stay.
Friendly staff and lovely food. Nice old fashioned pub. Comfortable room.
The property is an old qaint setting with good rooms, food and pleasant sraff
The George and Dragon had been taken over by new owners in October 2023. The pub is in a beautiful setting with outside seating as well as a good car park. It's obvious they have redecorated it with nice neutral colours which gives it a nice bright and welcoming feeling. I stayed overnight and my room was adequate and comfortable. They are in the process of decorating all bedrooms. The staff were very friendly and the lunch and breakfast I had there was good.
Peaceful location, friendly staff, a good place to stay but close enough for enjoying the facilities in Basingstoke. Could have a sign to show where check in was
Staff were amazing, food was good, lovely place to stay and would recommend
Rooms good value for money but pretty poor pub food and service. If the pub and restaurant could offer reasonable service and food this would be a very good place to stay.
We enjoyed our stay and the manager communicated with us beforehand about entry details etc It would be useful to have a sheet in the room with info about breakfast times, where to find this and choices available, also Wi-Fi details (open Wi-Fi) Otherwise all was good.
The room was large as well as the bathroom. The rooms are away from the pub so they are quiet. Good choice for dinner at the pub. Good breakfast. We had an issue with the heating but it was fixed quickly. My only negative was noisy plumbing during the night.
Good service, nice beer and full of character. Much more interesting than a town centre chain.
The position of the hotel was great for getting around. The pub was great, with good food and friendly people. The room was a good size and in great situation but tired and needs a bit of maintenance which has been planned for the future.
Friendly staff, nice rooms , great breakfast
Unfortunately this was an awful experience staying here. I stayed in room 11. This is a room in the pub garden with French doors. The room was freezing, multiple times tried to use thw heater to boost the temperature but the heater is not adequate for the room. I had to get an extra blanket from my car and also slept in 3 layers of clothing just to keep warm. The temperature on the heater said 7 degrees! Waking up early due to being cold there was no running water to the room, whist this was due to frozen pipes it just added to the situation. Had this of been the only issue i would not have been that bothered. I had no opinion butto leave early before breakfast due to just being so cold that i was physically shaking, and unable to fully get ready to go to work. Went to hand the key and knocked on the pub window, to then be ignored by 2 staff who looked at me and said to each other its not even 7 am yet as they turned around and walked off.
Rural setting , bungalow room away from the pub , but within a short walk , lovely pub food and roaring fire .
The room was warm, clean and had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom radiator was very hot and only cooled down when we turned it completely off. The shower was warm and pressure pretty good. The breakfast was delicious and very generous; I had the veggie full English and my husband had the meat version. A proper full pot of tea rather than a tiny pot which was great! We stayed here when visiting the Bombay Sapphire distillery so it was convenient. Would definitely stay again. All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. Thank you!
Very friendly staff clean warm room and close to work commitments nice food
Wasn't shown to room on arrival, staff were friendly enough,
Friendly staff, very nice food , fabulous atmosphere
Lovely helpful staff. Room clean and warm [ wet cold evening] . Good selection for breakfast. Great shower. Could do with a little maintenance, the toilet flush/drainage not so good.
The property had just been taken over by new landlord and was not operating fully, however, we had a lovely breakfast. Have to say, the room was a little tired though and in need of an update. Location is wonderful and surroundings beautiful. We will revisit in the future.
Excellent Inn in some beautiful countryside with lovely grounds. Helpful staff and good food at an amazing price.
Friendly staff
A very enjoyable stay for one night. Check in was very easy, at the pub bar. The room is set away from the main building and was very clean and comfortable Breakfast choice was very good We found the dinner choice a little limited. All staff were very friendly. It is worth checking directions as those linked to our booking email were inaccurate.
Stayed before 2 years ago, was good so I returned. Still good, although a bit more worn. Still fine for a week's stay. Food is fine, breakfast is included and pretty good. Reasonable price. Good location for what I needed, as in between Reading and Basingstoke.
The staff are pleasant and the food was fine but the “deluxe” rooms were a big disappointment (grubby and with heavily stained carpets) the general organisation was chaotic on many levels from the room reservation to meal times. 3/5 overall -we won’t be back
A lovely old inn. Good location for onward travel. My only disappointment was no food on a Sunday after 5.30pm, unfortunately I arrived att 6pm. Being a hotel, I would have tought it was good sense to cook for the residents. 3 coupls came in and asked for food after I arrived, so there is obviously demand.
Very friendly and accommodating staff, lovely atmosphere and fantastic breakfast
As always a good stay. Just a small thing I ordered portidge both mornings, on first it arrived at the same time as the cooked breakfast and the se pnd morning after the cooked breakfast!
Lovely country pub with good food and nice rooms.
This is an unfair review as the hotel was being refurbished but the owners/staff were kind enough to let me stay as I needed to be in the village.
One night clean and efficient , good breakfast. Would use again.
Fantastic value for money. We booked bed breakfast and evening meal and everything was lovely. The staff were really friendly and the meal choices were excellent. . The rooms are in chalets behind the pub and they are quiet and very private. The pub has beautiful grounds
Comfy beds and spacious rooms. Staff were friendly and nice. Breakfast was good. Carpet in the room was dodgy. Great overall experience.
Good overnight stay. Pub very busy. Room comfortable and clean. Evening meal very good. Breakfast a bit hit & miss though. During our stay it was raining pretty heavy and in view of the fact that you have to go outside to the rooms I think it would be nice if the owners provided some umbrellas for the guests.
We stayed from Monday to Friday first time here we came down here from up north for a family visit trip .check in was good .very welcoming .all staff very friendly and Lyndsey I think lady name is cooked a great breakfast as did other chef.hotel is in a great countryside peaceful .location.accommodation was okay .good value for money.would defiantly stay here as stopover again.lovely grounds.
Excellent in all respects, especially the breakfast. Staff very efficient and polite
Friendly staff, welcomed us on arrival. Great room. Fantastic breakfast and amazing value. Great for a stop off between London and Swanage.
Older accomplishments
Last minute booking but what a find - we were very satisfied with the welcome, the room and the breakfast.
Convenient for Basingstoke in a pleasant location. Good value with breakfast.
Friendly staff, clean and comfortable. Delicious breakfast, in all excellent value.
Staff were very helpful. The room was warm and comfortable. Cleanliness was to a good standard and had all we needed fir our one night stay. We would certainly stay there again and have no problem in recommending it.
Good value for money with cooked breakfast included! Staff friendly and helpful. Room was fine.
Nice
Fantastic value for money in a quaint old country pub. Breakfast was excellent
Great atmosphere in the pub and food was great. Staff friendly and helpful and locals very friendly and welcoming. Room was clean and tidy with everything needed for our stay. Will look to return in the new year. Highly recommend if you want somewhere good food, drink and atmosphere.
Great service and excellent food, competitively priced
Clean comfortable room with tea and coffee making facilities. En-suite bathroom with shower over the bath. The restaurant offered a good selection of traditional food. Breakfast offered a mix of cereals and yoghurt with toast and traditional cooked fare
We stay there all the time lovely clean rooms, very friendly and helpful staff and great food .
A quaint pub/hotel in the countryside. The perfect place to stay for a quiet few days away from the hustle and bustle. Staff are very welcoming and friendly. Food is good and the rooms are clean and comfortable.
Staff were helpful in leaving keys when we checked in after hours. Nice comfortable room and bathroom. Lovely breakfast with friendly staff. Definitely would stay again. Only comment would be rooms are not very soundproof and could hear next doors TV. But everything else was great.
Nice place
Very good and helpful staff.
Lovely setting and would stay again, the room was a little tired but not too bad, fir time I have been refused a second poached egg at breakfast, so a little dissapointing. Bed was comfy and location was quiret, but in easy reach of Basingstoke and Newbury.
This was strictly a head on pillow and breakfast for us and the hotel fitted the bill. I do think that there needs to be stricter cleaning regime both in room and restaurant, albeit nothing too bad
Very tired and dirty. Staff teenagers and clueless. Innapropriatly dressed in sports shorts and vests. Room dirty. Bedcover stained. Bathroom dirty and poor drainage from shower. Toilet needed at least 3 flushes to get rid of waste. At breakfast was asked if we wanted coffee then waited over 25 minutes before it arrived and it was weak and tasted awful No sugar on the table. Other tables around us piled high with dirty dishes. When situation challenged young male said that he was on his own and suffered anxiety. Couldn’t cope with pressure of serving 3 tables. Would NOT recommend place to anyone. Is there any chance of some rebate or discount from Expedia?
Nothing to complain about
