Unique rooms and amazing views. Cooler at night compared to the beachfront. Attentive, polite and helpful staff! There were regular check-ins to see how we are doing, readily provided everything we needed, great recommendations for food and drinks.
Not something we didn’t like, more things to keep in mind if you want to book: Not far but a short, steep climb to get to the property. Many insects/mosquitos but a net can be readily provided by the establishment, making it much more comfortable. No air conditioning and can get quite warm, although there is a ceiling fan and a floor fan provided.
Beautiful location, friendly staff, great food and the guest house itself is very well designed, tranquil and thoughtfully considered.
Magical stay combining immersion in nature with great design aesthetic and a sustainable approach to hospitality. We completely unplugged here, and I still dream of the shower overlooking the trees and ocean. Walking distance to the ocean, stores, restaurants, and only a short cab or bus ride from Mazunte or Zipolite (if you want a bit more activity at night). Truly every detail has been thought through here, including fantastic smelling organic bathroom products, beach towels and delicious breakfast.
There are quite a few stairs to climb and there's no AC, so you should consider this before your stay. We stayed in the suite on the upper floor, which got a good air breeze, but lower/smaller rooms might be hotter.
Mooie midden in de natuur en heerlijke regendouche
Muggen en geen airco
Everything was great! Check-in was very smooth, and Gabriela is an absolute doll. She was incredibly helpful, always available. She was also very accommodating and even arranged a scooter for us that we could pay her for directly, which made everything so easy. The room was fantastic—incredible views, a very comfortable bed, and perfectly clean. We had breakfast included, which was a nice touch, and the location is unbeatable with the beach and restaurants just a 3-minute walk away.
Just a few notes for future guests: the access requires climbing a lot of stairs. It completely makes sense in order to get that amazing view at least from the upper rooms, but not gonna lie, it is quite a workout! Also, the bathroom could use a few tweaks; the shower didn't have a curtain, so the whole floor would get wet, and the lighting was a bit too dim to see clearly in the mirror. As an FYI, there is no AC (though there is a fan), as the rooms have an open-air concept. Personally, I loved this! It really adds to the charm, and falling asleep listening to the waves and birds was wonderful. I would definitely come back!
Definitely the people were the best in the hotel! Super welcoming and kind. I loved their approach to water savings, bespoke rooms, and additional experiences we were offered
The bedroom and bathroom was lovely, I liked that they provided bug spray, and bathroom products and beach towels. Gaby was very friendly and sweet when checking in. The breakfast was nice too!
Not having proper wall/door did feel a little insecure and you could hear the wind, ocean very loudly all night, as well as the very clear conversations and intimacies of people both in the neighbouring rooms and walking past the terrace as there was no separation between that and the stairwell other than some plants. The pool was also extremely dirty, not just a few flies floating on the surface - this would be expected in a jungle, but the water was thick with floating particles and generally really disappointing, as the ocean was quite big waves so I was looking forward to relaxing pool swims, but I went in once and immediately regretted it. Also the location was a little remote, perhaps fine if in a couple but solo it was rather isolating and not much going on in this town at all. Alan seemed to take offence that I didn’t feel comfortable to walk to the next town after dark on my own, when I simply asked for info about taxis, he dismissed my question repeatedly, insisting he could “guarantee it was safe to walk”. Which was irrelevant and not what I was asking, I didn’t mention safety or insult the area or anything, I was simply asking for information about transport and it was an incredibly frustrating exchange with an unnecessarily condescending and dismissive attitude from him. Made me uncomfortable, I checked out a day early and they did not ask me if I needed assistance with booking taxi to my next destination or anything, which is not the end of the world, I figured it out on my own, but that’s an element of consideration I would offer my guests.
The rooms were nice and cosy. I like the focus on the environment The breakfast was nice and the staff were helpful and very serviceminded
The rooms were without any protection against sound
everything was so wonderful. Thank you Gabriela for being a lovely host :) We would love to come back.
Beautiful location, close to the beach, beautiful architecture and interiors, the shower is amazing
There was no way to make coffee in your own room, the breakfast was just ok
Alan and Gaby were great hosts. Monte Uzulu is perfect located in walking distance to the beach and restaurants.
This is a very unique place. Other than most of the new developments in San Agustinillo this place respects nature and its surroundings. It’s not invasive at all. I love the architecture and all the Mexican details about it.
We visited Monte Uzulu in February. It is located in a middle of San Agustinillo town, close to the beach. The property is surrounded by trees and is quiet. The room is small and simple, but it is well-designed and is sufficient for two people. The balcony is a great feature, overlooking trees and ocean. We enjoyed the breakfast served in an outside dining area. They also provide organic hair and skin products as they are environmentally conscious. The owner, Alan was very helpful providing the information on places to visit, and arranging taxi service. We highly recommend Uzulu.
Nothing we didn’t like here. Some people so commented about the access from the street, but we had no issues.
El acceso a la propiedad es terrible, no tienen estacionamiento y te cobran por llevarte a estacionar a otro lado y no lo tienes claro hasta que ya no puedes hacer nada
Lovely rooms, with the option to sleep with the sound of the ocean still around. A bit up hill, away from the street life. Great team, nice welcoming team, all great if you want hang around in this little quiet hippie like town …we enjoyed it
Good to know that it is close to other hotels and the way you have to close your eyes for a lot of ugliness. But, being up there it is nice, a bit new age atmosphere, like the whole village breaths :-) all good
The most idyllic place to stay. Gorgeous views, eco-conscious amenities that still feel so luxurious, amazing breakfast, and the MOST helpful concierge/hosts you could ask for. A must if visiting the Mazunte/San Agustinillo/Zipolite area.
Wow! My partner stayed at Monte Uzulu for 3 days and had the most restorative and enjoyable stay. The hosts Alan and Gabbi were so kind to us, helping book excursions, making dinner reservations, and even served us a delicious breakfast every morning. If you get the chance, reserve the top floor of the hotel as our views were incredible 😍
Todo ok !
I love love love this hotel. It is absolutely one of a kind and Alan made my stay so comfortable. I highly recommend this hotel to every guest. Perfect for families or for solo travellers. The daily complimentary breakfast is also the cherry on top of a truly fantastic stay.
Monte Azulu is an architectural gem! Very comfortable rooms that are beautifully designed, offering a modern feel while being respectful and reflective of the local traditions. Large folding doors with shutters open onto a deck, providing an amazing jungle / ocean view (I was in an upper suite) and a refreshing breeze. (Bonus: they make their own line of bath products, which I thoroughly enjoyed.) Alan, the owner/host, was very attentive and helpful. He provided excellent restaurant recommendations and promptly answered all my questions. He didn’t hesitate to assist with purchases I needed to make and even helped source local crafts I had requested. It’s important to note that the entire area is built on a hill. Unless you’re staying beachfront, your accommodations will likely have some. I come from a city that’s basically flat, so I took my time and adjusted within a few days. If you’re seeking a quieter atmosphere with access to excellent restaurants, food (pop-up farmer truck/stand - brilliant!), and beautiful beach, San Agustinillo is the perfect choice. It’s an excellent alternative to Mazunte—which is fun, but bigger and busier—yet still within walking distance if you choose to explore.
I highly recommend this beautiful and charming Property in the heart of the Jungle ! Such a warm and personalised welcome, exceptional quality of service ! Incredible attention to detail, eco friendly . The experience is magical ! Thanks a lot to Alan and his team !!
The rooms are absolutely stunning, and the terraces looking out to the sea are beautiful too. We loved evening - the chill out spaces, the breakfasts, the staff. That bath will live in my dreams for a long time! Also the commitment to sustainability was evident throughout the hotel.
Honestly nothing.
Everything! :) Especially the host Elvia and Alan. Super helpful and kind! Very beautiful minimalistic design. Views of the landscape from the room.
Our room was beautifully decorated and had a beautiful view. The breakfast was great and Alan, the host and the rest of the staff were very kind and helpful.
The best about Monte Uzulu, apart from the view, the design, and the location is the host! Alan is an excellent host, available with the best recommendations and he made sure we were comfortable and happy even when we had some issues that needed to be looked at. The location is perfect, safe and after you walk down the stairs you are right at the heartbeat of San Agustinillo, and at the same time high enough so you have quietness and tranquility. The view from the Suite is exceptional.
If I have to say something about the property, it would be that I would prefer the suite we stayed to be bigger for extra comfort, but again when you open the balcony door the room becomes bigger.
Our time at Monte Uzulu was so special and relaxing, the presence of beautiful architecture in the jungle only a stones throw away from the beach made for the perfect getaway from the noise and pollution of the city. My partner and I feel rejuvenated and can’t wait to spend more time at Monte Uzulu
Very beautiful and comfy hotel. Everything was perfect! We felt like at home. Location is great, 3 minutes away from the beach. Bars and restaurants are around the corner. Breakfast at the hotel is delicious. We will for sure come back soon!
We loved the hospitality of our host, the breakfast every morning was outstanding and the location was perfect. We will definitely return. It was also easy for non Spanish speaking tourists to navigate. Very walkable to beach, restaurants and shopping
Breakfast was fantastic, the decor is amazing and very tasteful, and the host was exceptionally friendly and helpful!
It’s a perfect place, but the steps could be an issue after a drink, if you’re old or unfit, or if it’s really dark! But that’s the trade off to stay in the hills and feel like you’re in a jungle
Everything was perfect, we didn't want to leave! We had the most amazing four night stay at Monte Uzulu. Alan and Ricardo made us feel so welcome and at home from the moment we arrived. San Augustinilo is a beautiful little town, and Monte Uzulu is tucked just away from the main street - close enough that you can pop down to the beach or lovely nearby restaurants within just a few minutes, but quiet and secluded enough that you can truly relax. We loved the morning breakfasts, relaxing on the balcony, and just generally all of the beautiful touches in the room. Highly highly highly recommend, we dream of coming back.

It was perfect - beautifully designed, tranquil, elegant, with wonderful host Allan to tend to our every whim. Breakfast was delicious, the showers were perfect, secluded, beautiful garden, romantic, comfortable, beautiful sea views with sunset from our balcony and the sound of crashing waves at night. Our favourite stay by far during our month long travels through Mexico. Short walk to a quiet beach and tucked away from the main strip of Mazunte but still within walking distance. Get the sea view room, you won’t regret it.
Nothing
I almost don’t want to leave a review because this place feels like a hidden gem worth keeping secret. Staying here truly feels like being a guest in a friend’s home. From the moment we arrived, the charming owner greeted us at the curb, warmly welcomed us, and gave us a wonderful introduction to the area, instantly making us feel at ease. The rooms, perched high on the hill with breathtaking ocean views, feel like a private sanctuary. Falling asleep with the windows open to the soothing sounds of the jungle and distant waves is pure magic. Each morning began with a simple yet delicious breakfast, setting the perfect tone for a day of exploring the town. It’s not a luxury hotel in the traditional sense, but the tranquil simplicity, location, and staff makes it an enriching experience of its own. Stay here before Saint Augustinillo becomes the next Tulum ;)
Monte Uzulu Boutique Hotel is a truly exceptional place to stay. The rooms are beautifully designed with a perfect balance of modern comfort and natural elements, offering a serene and stylish atmosphere. We had an amazing view of the trees and ocean from our second floor room. The hotel’s location is right in the middle of town, yet quiet and peaceful, and just a short walk to the most stunning San Agustinillo beach. Elvia, the manager was super friendly, helpful and attentive, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived!
I did not mind this, but be aware there are a few steps to get to the rooms.
Stunning design and gorgeous views.
Lack of aircon. Breakfast was also a little disappointing.
loved the large bed, beautiful terrace and jungle view. The design of the hotel is beautiful too. The staff we met (just 2) were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was generally nice.
In terms of breakfast, the chilaquiles were not good (very mushy) and the least good we had in Mexico. The coffee is far too weak at breakfast too. The facilities were a little disappointing, especially as this place is a bit of a climb from the beach, it could be so much more of a haven if there was a larger pool and areas with more soul throughout the property. The bar was closed when we were there and it felt very dead and off season which was a bit disappointing. There was no real vibe and we were hoping the hotel would be a bit of a sanctuary with lovely peaceful areas to relax, but aside from our room there wasn't really anywhere to comfortably do that. The fan above the bed is mis-aligned so you can't actually feel the fan from bed which is worth noting since there is no AC. It also rained heavily one night we were there and the roof of our room leaked considerably which was dangerous on the polished concrete floor (my partner almost slipped in the dark during the night). We ended up having to use all the towels available in the room to mop it up and prevent the water running further. This is not what you expect for the price paid for the room so I think this ought to be rectified. Don't get me wrong, the room is lovely and quite beautiful and the staff are very nice and helpful but a few things were amiss and improvements could be made.
Monte Uzulu was amazing! Gorgeous rooms, delicious breakfasts, minutes from the beach, and extremely helpful/accommodation hostess. Be aware that the rooms have no AC and access requires walking up a fair amount of stairs. (But it’s worth it!)
Great design, BATH tube ( I really miss it in Mexico), very friendly staff and good breakfast. I the room you will find everything you need to fight mosquitos, go to the beach (bag and towels) and eco-cosmetics.
Be prepare to climb to the hotel and to your room. You would really need comfortable shoes! There are stones and you need to climb up in the darkness)
Beautiful space to relax and unwind. Mountain and sea view from the balcony, sound of crashing waves to sleep, staff lovely and helpful. Perfect!
The view of the upper rooms was just insane. In general the rooms were very tastefully decorated. On top it was very quiet. Everything felt high quality. It was better than on the photos.
There was never a big yoga class as seen on photos when I was there.
Great aesthetics but lacking in customer service. I communicated with the owner I would be arriving at 8pm and upon arrival no one was on the property to even check me in. I then had to wait approx. 40minutes to get let into my room after a long day of travel. I had also asked about laundry service which was confirmed as an available service at an extra charge (500 pesos minimum load) however no one came around in the morning to collect my laundry as per the instructions in the room. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and their chef was quite lovely. The shower products in the room were top notch (eco friendly, biodegradable) and they also included bug spray and aloe sun gel. However upon check out, out no one was around again and I had to carry all my luggage off of the property which consists of a lot of stairs and pebbled walkways. Also prices fluctuate here so I ended up booking my room for 1500 pesos more via Expedia than their web rate.
The green views are nice. The breakfast is good and located in a nice area. The products of the hotel are fine. We asked for a special mosquito net on the bed - and it's great that they have this available, it saved our lives because they are everywhere and the Dengue epidemic is strong. However the way it was put, it makes it a little suffocating. This is something that should be by default available for every bed and well designed, given the room price and the vegetation that's in front of the Hotel. It's inevitable that you'll have mosquitoes everywhere.
Rooms are really tiny, to go there you need to follow a pedestrian street that is full of drunkens and trash. There isn't much light beside the outdoors, so you feel a bit like in a closet. Found the hotel totally overpriced for what you get (lots of stairs, small room, no pool, smell of the water treatment, etc.) It's cool looking, but in the end it's one of those hotels that are more instagrammable than really comfortable IMO.
View
Hard to get to the room, need to cross a dodgy path. No aircon and a lot of mosquitos
We loved being there! The room was very nice. The staff was so kind, helpful and flexible! The went way beyond to help us! We loved the location - close to the beaches, walkable and plenty of places to eat.
excellent service by front desk management, awesome design and atmosphere, great breakfast
This hotel is an absolute gem. I almost conflicted to give it such a great review because I selfishly want to keep it as a hidden gem. The staff were beyond helpful. The breakfast was plenty of delicious food and the restaurant atmosphere is incredible. Anyone that has a gripe is being a Karen.
One thing I would be aware of is that, at least our room, did not have AC if you are traveling the hottest months. That being said, Mazunte is not really a place to expect that…
it’s so peaceful
I spent 4 nights in Monte Uzulu. It's up a series of steps from the small main street of San Augstinillo and my balcony had a beautiful view of the ocean and deep green trees and vegetation. The hotel and rooms are beautifully designed. Unfortunately, I was ill for much of my stay (nothing to do with this hotel stay) so I didn't get to explore as much as I would have liked, but the hotel staff (special shout out to Israel), and their on-call doctor, took very good care of me. I was able to order delicious room service dinners, and when the restaurant was closed, the hotel staff went very much out of their way finding out what I'd like, finding a restaurant open serving that food, and bringing it to me. I'd love to come back another time when I'm fully well to experience all the hotel and San Augustinillo has to offer.
Great hotel and great value with genuine friendly staff. The rooms were absolutely beautiful. We wished we could've stayed longer.
it was beautiful and very peaceful. staff was really nice and attentive and made our stay pure pleasure
I had the most lovely stay in the hotel. The property was beautiful and very peaceful. It es perfect for relaxing and unwinding. The nearby beach was great. Breakfast was excellent. The staff was so attentive and shared great insights about the town, where to eat and what to do. I highly recommend.
This place was amazing. Small hotel with an intimate setting. Great, clean rooms with amazing balconies with fantastic views. You were up in the jungle but could hear the ocean waves from your balcony. Yummy eco-friendly products, amazing massages that the staff arrange to come to you, yoga, etc. The staff were incredibly attentive, friendly, thoughtful. The food was great--the chef really cared and created beautiful plates. What is not to love about walking to the bay, floating in a very saline ocean watching the sun rise (or set), then walking back to the hotel for an amazing breakfast or dinnerr.
the rooms are breathtaking
the rooms are very beautiful
Some of the lamps were not working. The staff knows it as they showed us around but didn’t bother to fix it. The area around the hotel looks more like a construction site with garbage lying around (you’d think it’s a quick fix to clean it). The free breakfast is a scam. You get a bowl of fruit without yoghurt/granola and a little biscuit accompanied by the menu with decent breakfast dishes you’d have to pay for. An egg doesn’t cost much, especially in comparison to the price they charge per night. You can get better hotels or Airbnb’s for that price
the rooms are very well designed, comfortable bed and beautiful semi outdoor bathroom with a tub
It's not located on the beachfront, it's not even 40 m away, it's around 3-5 min walk up the stairs across the main road. also, not all the room have a sea view which is quite disappointing
The design of the hotel, the view., the great food.
It wasn't clear what was and was not included in the breakfast. The space for yoga was not suitable at all.
Staff were lovely especially Jose. Hotel nicely designed.
we stayed in the bottom floor rooms which had no privacy at all. With there being no door on the bathroom and only having slated doors onto an open balcony that everyone walked past it felt like you were very exposed. it doesn’t seem right that these rooms are the same price as the top floor. The lack of proper doors also meant security felt very limited and of course we got bitten by mosquitos. we only had one bedside light and the bathroom light didn’t work so the room was dark and very small with suitcases/bags in the way. I would only stay if we got a top floor room and even then I think it was very expensive considering the size of the room and lack of shared spaces.
Staff was amazing! They really went above and beyond and really made the stay special and memorable. Really the best beach in the area and one of the nicest stays you can find.
incredible views with beautifully designed rooms and brilliant staff. We appreciated that it was also an eco resort and that they were thoughtful about the environment
Nothing! It was amazing
Very nice accommodation and very quiet. Julio runs an excellent restaurant on site.
The room is beautiful, the view from the balcony is stunning (we we’re staying in room number 9 on the upper floor). The staff is really friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Julio who arranged a special breakfast for my wife when she got a food poisoning. Communication is easy and quick via WhatsApp. Before arrival they will already send you a list with tips. There are nice amenities in the room, included a aftersun. We will miss the calmness and the sound of the waves during the night. Definitely come back to this place.
The breakfast was a bit disappointing. Coffee/tea, a fruit bowl and a small cookie or bread. They have a menu where you can choose from but you have to pay extra for it. We ordered the banana/cinnamon pancakes who were really good. For the price of the room I think it would be fair if guests can choose one dish from the breakfast menu, as all the dishes are shareable.
the room is amazing! Beautiful view and interior, nice soaps etc. Nothing to complain about. Staff is also nice, friendly and helpful. This made the experience great, and something worth going back for. Less great was the fact that the hotel was under construction, so there were missing som facilities such as chill area, pool, etc. but this is under its way. the included breakfast is more like a snack than actual breakfast: a fruit bowl and a cake. But the breakfast you can buy in the restaurant is really good. also, it should be mentioned that there are no doors to the bathroom, so a little lack of privacy here.
Everything was just perfect!! The staff was very friendly and attentive, the room was georgeous and clean, the restaurant served delicious food, the atmosphere of the hotel in general was amazing. We highly recommend it!
There was nothing not to like
Beautiful contemporary design and good location - quiet but a short walk to the beach and restaurants. Rooms all have nice terraces with great views towards the sea. The concierge were very helpful and had excellent recommendations.
There are no doors on the bathroom
gem of the beaten track in between hectic zipolite and mazunte both just minutes away by raxi
didn’t bother me but can understand that this property is hard to acces by people who are not fit as its located on a hill
I loved everything! beautiful sounds and view, as well as exceptional service. Defineatly a place to come back
I loved everything! however close by there is a construction so during the day there were times it was loud
Friendly staff, very nice decoration, very good body product provided and beautiful bathroom.
The breakfast. It was suppose to be included in the reservation but it contain only couple of fruit and a biscuit. For the price, we expected something more generous.
This place is amazing, and its view is just wonderful. Imagine waking up to the sound of the waves and also have a very welcoming, helpful and amazing staff. They made my trip an unforgettable one.
